I extracted the radio version 1.20.31.10 from the imate jasjam 1.31.305.2 rom using Asukal's method.
You can find the radio upgrade only and upgrading instructions on the Hermes Extracted Radio ROMs wiki page.
Remember:
- screen will show "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait........."
- after finishing flashing radio you will see an "Upgrade Error", but the radio ROM will be flashed anyway
- no need to hard reset after upgrading the radio, only soft reset with stylus when upgrade ends.
- upgrade at your own risk, i take no responsiblity for anything that happens to you, your Hermes, your marriage, etc.
This sucks...I followed the directions to the letter and now I'm stuck on the windows mobile screen.
It seems that when it soft-rest, right above the D1.18 (on the bottom center on the screen) NO GSM appears for a few seconds then disappears.
i have exactly the same problem, it just sits at the windows mobile screen.
i am going to do a hard reset to see if that helps
too bad :/ I was just about to upgrade my radio rom with that.. thx for the notice.
Hard-rest doesn't help. I think the issue is NO GSM...the phone doesn't know what to do. And, not being able to activesync, I can't do anything else.
Had the same problem.
Put the device in Boottloader mode (left OK & Power & reset), and loaded Radio 1.16.
Workes !
Probably something went wrong during extracting 1.20 Radio.
oops... sorry guys, i will remove the upgrade inmediately... it worked on my hermes, will try to flash an older rom an try it again! Those who are stuck on windows mobile screen do what torklemm says: flash radio 1.16
That's what I'm trying to do now, I just hope it works.
Thanks.
EDIT: Can't seem to get it to see the phone via activesync. Unable to flash anything at this point.
I am going to give that a try now, will update with the results

You do not need activesync, disable activesync usb connections, put the device in bootloader mode and start the flash utility (ma_upgrade_noid) from 1.16 radio upgrade.

Tried that pof, all is get is "checking the info on your device and don't disconnect, etc" and nothing more. A few minutes later it shows the screen detailing the PPC radio and ROM versions and the radio version that I'm trying to install, but everything is blank. I say yes anyway and it just sits on the "checking the info on your device and don't disconnect, etc" screen forever.
That's why I thought something wasn't right w/o activesync. I'll try again.
EDIT, again: I'm now trying the Cingular 1.13 radio...that seems to be installing. Pray for me guys
EDIT 2: Yeah, I get the same error as you shark1
I get an error stating this utility is not design for this device please get the correct update utility
i have the same problem On boot i see "NO GSM". Now my tytn doesn't boot and also when i try to reload 1.16 radio it stucks... I'll try with 1.13...
1.13 don't go it say it's not designed for my device... o__O
now i'll try 1.11 same problem...
I'm uploading a "hopefully" fixed version on ftp (again, it worked on my hermes from 1.16 to 1.20), do not download it yet until I finish uploading... (17% now) i will edit this post and let you know when it is finished.
EDIT: Upload finished!
POF: OK i will wait, hopefully that will work, at present I will try 1.11 as others are trying 1.13
I get the same update error with 1.11
I have try to find my old phone, so I can make calls
Ok, now I'm totally confused. In bootloader, I don't see USB on the bottom anylonger. if I unplug my USB cable, I see serial...but I can't seem to do anything to get USB recognized again.
Why did I do this???
EDIT: Rebooted everything!
Hi all,
got the same problem. Phone in bootloader and can't go back to 1.16 or lower..... hope the new 1.20 will work

Dear All,
I've tried to upgrade to ROM Hermes_1.18.416.1_1.18.416.101_1.14.00.10_WWE_Ship
and unluckly cable loosen and I reset the phone.
Since it's in the middle and can't success enter the Windows Mobile,
but the bootloader was updated to 1.06.
Now I can't flash any ROM either
HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP or the new one.
The tools on "imei check" even can't recognize my phone.
Any one can help me on this issue, please?
Thanks in advance.
Try the steps here, let us know the results:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
If you don't fix it with the proposed solutions attach USB Monitor capture in text format as explained in the bootom of the page.
I have the same issue, and sent it to service, and now I have the phone back and they could not fix it, so got no radio or imei number, so none of the FAQ will work for me.
So I have an expensive paper weight.
Hi,
ME TOO!!
I recently had a power cut (yes, a lights off power cut!) that killed my PC half wat through installing the Cingular English CWS__001 1.34.502.1 09/21/06 ?? 1.16.00.00 32.53.7018.01H 14955.2.3.0 ROM onto my SPV 3100.
Now SPV 3100 will boot to the ROM I was running prior to the upgrade but I can't use the telephone. I'm also not able to rerun the upgrade as it got far enough through the process to upgrade my bootloader to 1.06 - therefor rendering me unable to load another ROM.
Before the crash I was using the Imate ROM as below and M3100 was sim unlocked and running on o2 3G
i-mate English CDL__001 1.20.305.3 07/21/06 1.20.305.104 1.07.03.10 32.41.7010.02H 14955.2.3.0 1.04
I have also tried imei without any joy.
the PDA part of my M3100 still works but the phone is dead. I have been told that if you can get the latest radio installed then you satnd a chance of the phone part working.
We need a hack to get bootloader 1.4 back on the phones.
Please help.
Thanks
My one now is a photo frame which one show "HTC" or "Windows Mobile",
at least your one is a PDA.
There are nothing in "info 2" and so nothing can be flash into it.
Is it possible to have something written CID and IMEI to phone in mtty
and let the flash rom success?
i am in the same situation like yhlee. Pof, i have reply your pm and ready to upload the result file to FTP. where should i upload to?
Thanks
oh i forgot to say, mine is even worst. as soon as i turn on the unit. it will go right into bootloader without press any button.
The USB Log is too large (around 2MB)

This can be fixed by bootloader commands 'set 14 0' and 'task 8', will reboot your device and boot into OS again (but no GSM yet!)

POF, file have been uploaded, file name= rnc1688
Thanks
'set 14 0' and 'task 8' didn't work
@rnc1688: It starts the flashing process, but you get a "CID not allow (255)" error because your CID is corrupted and you are in bootloader 1.06.
Is not booting WM5 after "set 14 0" in mtty.exe? If it's not booting WM5 you'll not be able to flash bootloader 1.04 and bypass CID checking.
so i guess my unit is bricked now.
I've upload the file which named yhlee.txt.
However, I'm going to send the unit for service.
Hope they can fix.
Any way to make it show the bootloader screen on start-up
everytime?
"set 14 1" doesn't work after push the RESET button.
Thanks.
@yhlee: U're getting exactly the same error as rnc1688. Device in bootloader 1.06 which has corrupted CID, however you say you can go into OS, so it would be possible for you to downgrade the bootloader so it does not enforce CID checking.

Try "set 1e 1" and then "set 14 1", you'll boot stright into bootloader.
@rnc1688: If you want to go WM5 try this:
"set 1e 1" and then "set 14 0", you should be able to boot stright into OS.
no luck either
grrr!!!... command "set 14 [0|1]" is working fine in 1.04 here to switch boot into WM5 or boot in bootloader mode... probably different in 1.06??? I don't have a 1.06 now to test
Mine one is just showing "Windows Mobile" but stuck there,
but seems rnc1688 one is a PDA but my one is nothing.
I've sent to distributor for service.
Thanks you pof.

Let me know when they fix it... i'm curious about if they will fix it with 1.06 or they will downgrade to 1.04 first.
I got a correct message back from the service company, and they will not fix a bootloader 1.06 unless the original rom has been release with it, I was told that is HTC policy on this.
Apparently, I'm pretty stupid.
I just got the Cingular 8525; I have spent two hours on this site.
Things I've noticed:
One page says go into bootloader; one page says not to allow usb connections.
I do not know if I am supposed to have my non-Cingular SIM card already in the phone when attempting to do anything.
I have seen connect via USB and use mtty (with what settings do I use when I click on USB from the dropdown menu (if any) and do I connect with mtty via USB in bootloader or when the phone has booted into Windows 5.0 and again what about the non-Cingular SIM card?).
I have flashed my computers BIOS several times but I do not understand how to flash this phone based on the myriad of instructions all over this site (and RFTW did not help which is why I am here with 40000000 questions).
The steps to go from SPL 1.06 to an unlocked SIM/CID phone are?
Things I do understand:
I have SPL 1.06 (I know this from bootloader).
I must downgrade to 1.04 from 1.06 then run the upgrade to 1.06 from the Hermes Upgrade wiki page (I already downloaded all of the Cingular files).
Thanks in advance for any clarification.
I unlocked my 8525 last week, I had bootloader 1.06 so I downgraded to a ROM with boetloader 1.04(you can find it here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades ).. then just follow the instructions in the zip file you downloaded(i used HERM_Unlock_v2a), which are:
1. Enter bootloader mode on your Phone. To do this, simultaneously hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus.
[You should see SPL-1.04 on the top of the tri-color screen, if you see SPL-1.06 this unlocker will not work, please wait for the next version]
2. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
3. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program – this will reflash your phone with a patched radio ROM required to unlock.
4. Wait patiently.
5. Once the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe upgrade completes, it will end up saying "Upgrade Error 114", but the patched radio ROM will be flashed anyway, dont worry about that error!
6. Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
7. Allow your phone to reboot. Once it has, connect to your PC using Activesync, and copy the HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe program onto your phone. Alternatively, copy it to an SD card and insert into your phone.
8. Run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone. Wait about 1 minute.
9. You should see a "SUCCESS!" message from HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe, after that soft reset your phone.
10. Process is (hopefully) complete!
11. If the phone requests unlock code when you put a locked SIM, the code is: 22051978
I assume I want go to 1.04 for Cingular which is 1.30.502.1.
What about my SIM card? Is it supposed to be in phone when I run this file? (it's a t-mobile sim).
I assume the activesync connection via usb is okay? I cannot get it to connect (even though the phone is on and booted into Windows 5.0); is this because I have not inserted the SIM card into the phone? Note: after I unplugged the device, setting allow USB connections on the device in the ActiveSync settings, then plugging it back in, it connected via USB in ActiveSync (4.2). However, I just got a box saying the version of ActiveSync is not compatible with this mobile device. This occured after I started the installer and it showing Verifying the information on your PDA phone.
I received an update error 260 since it thinks the phone is not connected via USB (and I noticed the ActiveSync icon in the system tray is gone).
I went to check the M$ page to see if there is a later download; there is not. Then, the AS icon return (trying to update outlook, install nero mobile) so I decided to run the installer again and now sees my current version 1.34.502.1 and I have the option to upgrade ROM

It is ok, but generally it causes more problems than it helps. Best is to disable the checkbox that says "enable usb connections" on activesync settings and you'll see the icon on the system tray turn gray with a red "X". Then you need to start the RUU when the device is in bootloader mode (tri-color screen). After you have upgrded the rom (or radio rom) you can reenable activesync again if you want.

Icon was gone because RUU checks your current rom version using activesync and then kills it an put device in bootloaer mode. If RUU cannot kill activesync correctly errors happen:
You will avoid the 260 error if you disable usb connections on desktop activesync as I told you, and start the upgrade in bootloader mode... only difference you'll notice is that RUU will not report your current rom version.
Hey. I left the RUU software running (the 25+ minute variety) while I went to buy a case and care charger. I came back and evidently, the phone had rebooted because, it is at the Windows Mobile screen to setup the Windows Mobile device. I assume it is safe to do the 2a software. After that, am I able to update the RUU back to 1.06?
Thanks for your help, Milan and pof!
I rebooted into bootloader to confirm successful downgrade to 1.04 from 1.06 and it was. The RUU software from the upgrade page for Cingular appears to have been successful.
I am now going to attempt the 2a software.
Yes, now follow all the instructions on sim&cid unlocker v2a, and when finished, flash the cingular 1.34 rom again.

I got the 114 error as promised in the readme. I exited the program using the EXIT button.
The next step:
6. Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
On the phone display, it still shows Upgrade Radio Stack Please Wait..
The soft reset is the simultaneous OK and Power?
I just took the battery out and reset; it appeared to go okay. I copied the exe file to the phone and was able to run the file as in the readme. I then reset the phone, put in the t-mobile sim and it works.
Thanks much to POF and Milan for their straightforward approach. You can use this thread as a tutorial!
Is there any reason I should add the 1.06 file back to the unlocked 8525?
SPL 1.06 to SPL 1.04 back to SPL 1.06?
Hi:
I followed pof's (with pof's help) tutorial on how to unlock the Cingular 8525. I am currently at SPL 1.04 (downgraded form SPL 1.06) and had run the v2a software to unlock. It works great with T-mobile (I was a Cingular customer but made the switch).
My questions are:
Is there any reason to go back SPL 1.06?
If I do go back to SPL 1.06, it does not affect the unlock status of the SIM or CID?
I still am confused about the Radio and what that does in relation to the CID, SIM, or phone. I assume the Radio is affected the SPL version that you have?
I have tried to peruse through various pages regarding downgrading (the 13 page thread for example) to see if that question is answered.
The radio ROM controls the GSM/GPRS/UMTS hardware in your hermes. You cannot independently upgrade it unless you are running SPL 1.04. There is no reason IMO to go to any other bootloader version.

Oh okay, that clears up yet something else I did not understand
Thanks for the tip on the bootloader version; I will leave it at SPL 1.04.
That being said, I am currently in the middle of the Radio 1.20 thread; I have not finished reading it yet (I can only do so much at work before people wonder what I am doing). Have you upgraded to Radio 1.20? If not, what radio are you running and what do you think of its stability and/or functionality?
Thanks!
I'm running the 1.20 radio. It and the 1.35 TyTN ROM are the best combination I've used so far.

I had on my Athena the previous Michy Rom (2.04 with SPL 1.20) and when I saw the new version (4.00 with SPL 3.5):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411371
I decided to install it. Like an idiot, I did not pay attention to the fact the SPL was different... I started the flash process and when I realized my error, it was too late.
The upgrade did not completed (as expected :-()) and now I am stuck with a corrupted bootloader screen, so I can't proceed (the device does not boot so I can't access ActiveSync).
Any way forward? Thanks for any hints!

When you are in bootloader(three coloured screen) what do you see?
remove sim and sd card , hold camera button all the way in and press the reset button(on the back close to the battery cover)
If you see in bootloader mode ID showing somenting different than ATHE100 the solution is HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405814

Thanks - already tried!
When I reset/hard-reset the phone (tried many ways) I see a garbled boot image (with random pixels here and there)... It is definitively not the usual bootloader with the information about the various ROM components and the "USB" text at the bottom.

Solution!
I managed to do the same thing - had an old AP ROM with SPL 1.2 already installed then earlier today I tried to upgrade to the new Mitchy R4 SPL 3.5. I thought my Ameo was bricked, but after some pain it is now working again.
Here is what I did:
1) Enter bootloader mode using the very tricky Camera+Volume+Reset method.
2)
Follow exactly the steps in post 33 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387454&highlight=mtty&page=4
Note, I'm running Vista so to get the USB option to show in MTTY, I had to first open "Windows Mobile Device Center" in Control Panel then disable the USB.
Also, note you should find your MAC under the battery flap.
3) Now all you need to do is reset, enter the bootloader mode again, and re-try the ROM (PS, make sure you use the correct SPL version!
Hope this helps.

First of all, Hi!
Now, how do I clear my nike to the point where it has nothing on it?
I need to do this because I got stuck in the process of flashing it with HARDSPL 1.22 that I need in order to flash a new rom!
I tried everything, I followed the guide on how to do HardSpl, but got stuck at step 8 of the tutorial, the process bar is constantly at 0%, and followed by recovery steps!
I do not need them because everything works just fine, only with the original rom still on!
So I want to flash a rom, but am unable to!
Please help me!
Even if my solution is deleting everything ( I do not mean a Hard Reset- Did that 10 times ) and starting from 0!
But this is one thing I never did, and do not know where to start or what to do!
So any good soul out there willing to help, please do so!
Thanks in advance!
Ok let's try to help, can you tell us more details about your phone, model 16 or 20 keys, rom and radio.

Regards Rataplan
Thanks, mine is a 16 key version.
Radio 1.65.28.25
Rom: 2.09.405.1
Rom date: 30.08.2008.
Protocol version: 25.98.40.07H
And I did the first few steps of flashing the HardSpl
and now it says SPL 1.22
and further more, on start up screen it says "TEST ONLY NOT FOR SALE"
BTW: I was looking of flashing your ROM but as I said, no can do!
HELP
Ok from what I see it looks to me that you already flashed a rom, just one question is it telling SPL 1.22 or SPL 1.22 Hard
just SPL
That is my problem!
Any solution!?
You need to start all over again, do you have a Niki, you can see that under the battery
Okay just read your post in the other thread, that cleared a lot of things, just do it all over again and use 1.15 instead of 1.22 maybe that will work for you, btw from what I can see you didn't do anything wrong, I also flashed directly the 1.22 and from me that works.
Just keep me informed how it goes.
Regards
The phone is niki100
There is no simlock!
What do I need to do?
Refer me to a tutorial, or just tell me everything here?
And thank you for the help so far!
Edit:
OK, I did what you said, and so far works!
But, could you please explain to me a couple of things!
1. download the attached files DONE
2. REMOVE SIM and SD CARDS !! DONE
3. connect usb cable DONE
4. copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your device and run it (usb cable must be connected!) DONE
5. after a few seconds "USB" appears on the display DONE
6. unplug and replug the usb cable DONE
(OPTIONAL, better to skip it! step 7. if you only want to test the sspl try flashing the attached splash screen by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-splash-niki) SKIPPED
8. you can now flash the hardspl-1.15mfg-nike.nbh by running ROMUpdateUtility.exe from flash-uspl-niki
AND NOW here is my question, in the file FLASH-USPL-NIKI there is a uspl-1.16-nike.nbh file, but here in this step it says to flesh the 1.15mfg(wich I downloaded), so do
i have to delete the 1.16 and replace it with the 1.15mfg or what?
9. after installing the hardspl you can flash any rom (rom cook project here)
Okay I think I kow what you mean, you must flash the 1.15mfg, do not copy it to your phone, you don't have to delete the 1.16.
EUREKA, it worked!
Flashed your F01-10 rom!
Now I only did the 1.15 HARD Spl
Please suggest to me a radio?
I tried flashing the Radio_1.71.09.01_25.75.40.02K and it got to 100% and then said FLASH WRITE ERROR, so I was stuck wit the old radio!
AND OMG, THE ROM IS WONDERFUL
Thank you so very very much!
I need help, i have flashed a rom but now my niki stops at the radio details. It doesn't boot to windows mobile.
How do i reflash a working rom now?
How long have you waited before taking out the battery?
It takes a while to load!
It takes a while to load yes, but 5-10 minutes is to long for it to start to boot.
It has passed 1 hour now.
Anyone knows how can i fix my niki?

You're welcome for the rom, about the radio if you want to try the 1.71 radio you have to go back to an older radio before you flash the 1.71.
I suggest to use a 1.5.. radio, that will do the trick.
For now you can always put Hardspl 1.22 on your phone, some people are recommended that if you flash a wm 6.5 rom, personally I don't see any difference.
Btw The radio I use is 1.65.29.22

Hmm, that's a long time without a phone , did you already try a hardreset, just turn the phone off, and turn it on by pressing the power and the send and end key on the dame time, I think that will do it.
Just keep me informed.

Yes it enters restore mode. If i have the usb cable, when the restore finishes, on the pc it says "unrecognized usb" / Unknown device. I reboot the phone and its the same.

Ha ha yeah that would be nice if we could replace that for an image.
Okay, connect it to your computer when you're on the 4 coloured screen and see if it connect then, in the phone you see serial changing in usb, if yes just flash your original rom.
