Noob can't delete files in extrom - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi!
I have tried to research the subject. Have flashed a new rom with bootloader 1.04, made unit supercid, used heremes tweak to unhide, unlock. But I can't delete any of the files in extrom with the standard file explorer. What am I missing here?

okay,,, I did that once long ago, its shall we say, not recomended.

I did this a while ago so my mind is a little sketchy on exactly how I go t it done. I used Resco File Explorer but I had to unhide the 'Recycle' bin to actually delete the files as they were going in there.
I have deleted all the files in my Ext Rom and used the space to install TomTom etc. Not come across any problems yet.

Microsoft Reader

I've just recently upgraded from wm2003 to wm2003se from zeroextreme's ROM. I've noticed that there isn't no Microsoft Reader in the basic apps installed. I then downloaded the installer of Microsoft Reader for PPC. What I would like to do is for it to be included in the basic apps to be installed after a hard-reset. How do I do this?
MSReaderPPC
Add this command line into your Config.txt file of your Extended ROM.
CAB: \Extended_ROM\msreader_arm.CAB
Download the attachment, unzip and place the cabinet file within into your Extended ROM folder.

I can't seem to edit / change the config.txt file in the Extended ROM. I tried editing it from the Extended ROM and Pocket Word prompts me with this:
"No storage memory available
Tap Cancel, use File Explorer to delete some files, and try again. Or, move the note to an alternate storage location.
Tap Discard to close the document without saving changes"
I then tried to copy the config.txt file to a different folder (i.e. My Documents) and edit it from there. After doing this, I tried to overwrite the config.txt in the Extended ROM with the new config.txt and it says:
"Action Failed
Cannot overwrite file 'config.txt'. The media is write protected.
Press 'Yes' to continue."
extrom unlocker
try this to unlock/unhide your extrom and edit/cook as well.
Re: extrom unlocker
 harhar.. got it.. thanks a lot!
Thank you so much for posting a copy of the CAB file! I had to replace my phone and the new one wouldn't sync. I was getting desparate because most of my books are in .lit format - beginning to go through withdrawl symptoms. And the MS Reader for PPC only loads through the Mobile Device Center. I've been scouring the 'net trying to find some answer that works to fix the problem and coming up with nothing effective. With this CAB, I don't need to sync. Thanks again!
Quite an ancient thread, I hope I'll get some answers...
This CAB does not work on my WinCE 6.0 handheld with ANYKA CPU.
Most of the CAB I download do not work. Only CABs found in MioPocket package work.
Why?
MioPocket contains MS Reader too, already "installed", but upon starting it complains about internal error 010, which afaik means "messing fonts".
So where do I get missing fonts from?

regaining space on wm5 1.60a

well i was trying to use it but after installing a few apps i ran out of memory already
i remember reading somewhere i can delete the cab files that activesync sends through when it installs software
where is that folder located? i cant seem to find the post anymore and i cant find the files on my ppc =(
thank you
mmm i also wanna now this i'm always running out of memory
ahh i found it i think...after i went back to 1.50i =p
its application data/volatile
there's only some empty folders there, or are the files hidden ?
to be honest...i have no idea =)
but i was using tweak.net 3.9.1 and found the temp dir to be there
in "appmgr" file... when you load any file uninstall file's is locating there...

Help me please! I messed up !!

I feel like a total IDIOT !!!
I was messing around with my TyTn trying to unlock the ext rom.....
I installed fit4cat 1.0 checked it out...didn't do anything with it.
My TyTn started acting a little strange..so I did a hard reset.
When it reboot during the customization process it tells me:
\Extended_ROM\MT_ShortcutMMS-Hermes.CAB does not exist.....
then it freezes!!!!!
What did I do !!! I'm a fool!
Can someone help me out?
I just want to reset it and get the ext rom installed..
btw..i have bootloader 1.14
ok...i kind of got things going again.....!
I still get the message about the missing .cab file!!
I can now access the ext rom folder.....now the question is how do I instal .cab files for the ext rom?
I downloaded the appropriate ext rom version for my device and it contains a bunch of .cab files, one of them being the missing file
How do I get it in there...do I simply instal it like a standrd .cab file?
Does it need to be installed in the ext rom ?
hahaha your not the only one... what you need to do is visit the wiki here and download the appropriate ExtROM for your device and... use fid4cat to unhide and unlock the EtxROM and simpy copy the missing file back there... re lock the ROM using fid4cat and hard reset it....

ok.....where do you copy the missing files? at the root level of the ExtRom folder?
There's other folders in there:
Program Files
WMDRM
I don't see any other .cab files in the ExtRom folder of my device...is that normal? Should I copy all the ExtRom file I downloaded since I have none in the device ExtRom folder?
if you can see the extrom and there are no cab files inside it then you have somehow formatted your EtxROM, you need to copy all files from the relevant downloaded ExtROM onto your PDA in the ExtROM folder and relock the etxROM

I even have the video phone enabled now !!!!!!
YOU ARE THE MAN....!!! thanks for your help!
no problems... in future take a backup of everything before you do anything i have run into your situation many times hahahahaha....

Does anyone remember this?????

I am looking for the file explorer.exe that allows you to delete files from the rom. It was posted awhile back and I just recently lost due to a HDD crash. I believe is was included in one of the old WM5 roms but was also posted as a download also. I used to drag it to the Windows Directory and actually overwrite the built in explorer. I have searched and searched and cannot find it. Can someone please help....
Thanks
try resco explorer, it lets you overwrite the rom BUT it is a commercial program and requires registration. I believe a trial version is available.
Thanks I own that also. But the one I was referring to was created by someone on here. I thought it was Dr. Putt but I could be wrong. I just dragged the file over to the windows directory and it overwrote the windows file explorer. I have to keep looking. But that you for the response.....
Rob
I also only use Resco, but I recall hearing that TotalCommander could do what you're looking for. Not sure if TC is free or commercial, just chiming in...
if you dont want the original file explorer, why dont you just delete the .ink file out of startmenu? this will remove the old explorer icon from programs menu.
It's not that I don't like it there. The version I am refering to actually let you delete things stored in the rom. With resco thanks for all your suggestions though!
If you do run across it drop me a line....
Thanks

[Q] Need help with NBH

Ok, so here's what I'm trying to accomplish.
I can't stand having the awful standard alarms/notification sounds that are provided on most WM roms, so I went and redid one. The attached file is a Windows notification sound that I've renamed and converted to work on my topaz in place of "alarm2", hence the filename.
In short, I don't want to have to use total commander winCE every time i flash and want to change that file out (I can't overwrite it using windows explorer or file explorer cuz I can't overwrite system files). So i had an idea.
I figured I'd make a .NBH file to flash to the device after I flash my rom on there that ONLY replaces that sound file with the new one (Eventually I'd like to incorporate my custom splash screens into it but that's only a thought at this point). This is where my question/problem comes in...
I've looked around on the forums for some type of "rom builder" or .nbh creator or utility, and I've found alot of things that will convert .nb into .nbh and other features, but nothing that seems to do what I'm wanting.
I'm NOT a developer really; im more of a concept person, and if I can accomplish this without having to learn a language all the better, but I'm not sure where to start with this.
Sorry about the long post, and thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
Hi,
what about using sashimi or UC? this would save you a flash...
you can automate the process. that's what i do when i flash and i want to get back the ringtones.
good luck
Use total commander. it will let you overwrite system files and files that are in use.

Yea, that's what I've been doing so far... It's still kind of a pain waiting for the Windows folder to load and then replacing it (It can take awhile)... I should've mentioned in the first post that it was an alternative to this that I was looking for, and either a .nbh file or possible a cab file, though I can't see how a cab file could accomplish this since it's replacing a system file while it's in use...
