I have a serious problem with orb/wmp
when I try to stream a video over 3g I recieve an error from orb saying that windows media audio and video are not supported by the Player!
when I use WMP it simply gets stuck and says paused.
I REALLY love Wm6 but I also REALLY love orb.
does anyone have any ideas? more importantly has anyone been able to get this combo working?
when Im off this week I will pull the registry from my wizard and try to compare the entries for WMv and windows media audio but some of those entries are cryptic.
I CAN get orb to work over WiFi
if you have this working over 3g please PM me a copy of your registry if possible.
TCPMP version .71 and .72 rc2 have this problem,.
Also I tried going through the source code for tcpmp, but there is no notation in the source so I gave up on that end plus I dont have the WM6 sdk anyways.
/** I can also confirm that Conduits pocket player simply hangs when attempting to stream 3-3-07

I have been able to get Orb working with both WiFi and 3G and EDGE. I am sorry I do not know how to copy my registry. here is what I have been able to figure out. I have Cingular, so I have switched my connection to isp.cingular from wap.cingular and I have enabled the network on Windows Media Player for WiFI/Lan 1.0 mbps or more, those are the only changes I have made and it is working really well. I have Core Player but have never been able to get it to work with Orb.
thank you cvbesq post # 15
if anyone else can please confirm this, I have an ANR line and do not have access to isp.cingular

I am able to confirm that WMP under XDA Live .20 will play both audio and video through orb. The Proxy must be disabled and a udp port seems to be required under options.TCPMP is still giving the same error as before.
thank you all who contributed. the next thing that needs to be corrected is tcpmp.

a possible fix for Slingplayer is here

please let me know if it works

the above fix seems to work for sling player but not for TCPMP.
I'm baffled by this too, however I can't say that I'm terribly disappointed as I've pretty much given up on trying to watch videos on the Hermes crab a long time ago.
you know I didnt really have a huge problem with TCPmp with 1.34 or 1.06 just a little lag which I corrected by changing a setting in TCPMP, however not being able to watch orb is a big minus which is almost made up by HTML email.
I (and others) are having a very similar problem with Slingplayer. Looks like some of the codecs have changed?
If I have time over the weekend, I was going to try cookng up a ROM with the older WM6 codecs that were in the Wizard's ROM, 'cause they seem to be ok.
Don't know if it'll work though....
Great idea! Let us know how that comes along
Maybe stupid question, but have you added the plugins to play other format files? If you haven't.. get them here: http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/
this behavior exists in wm6 vanilla also but not in the wizard, I was able to use it on the wizard, u have to remember that the hermes uses an ati gpu so the wizard drivers may not work but try anyways! I personally think that the api must have changed.
This may be the same problem area as the SlingPlayer om WM6. If I understand correctly someone here has a Wizard with this working, could you be so kind and test out SlingPlayer on that same Wizard and see if it works. I am thinking the codecs may be here but not mapped correctly in the WM6 we have for Hermes since it was a beta after all.
Also incase anyone is looking for TCPMP in only a CAB install (I could only find the exe on google):
I do find it curious that it works with wifi, thats why I went through the networking source code but there is no notation and I am still a new code writer (it was probably above my head any way). I think its written in C++ if anyone wants to go through it the code is available at the link earlier in this thread. or the codecs may simply not be registered, which is why I think we should look at the roms from the wizard.
This is also the same problem in sling player.
I have posted this in many other places but it seems like no one uses orb WTF? how can you have a 3g Wm phone and not use orb!

So you are confirming the WM6 on the Wizard runs slingbox?
it worked with Orb, im afraid im not in the slingbox club lol.
Ok, I managed to find a few minutes to cook up a Hermes ROM with the Wizard's WMP files in it. Didn't work.
Tried to do the same using the WMP files from a Universal WM6 ROM (which I know worked with Orb and SlingPlayer). That didn't work either.
Next, I'll have to compare all the registry settings...I may wait until Kyphur's next release though, 'cause if it's already working with the newer base ROM, then I'll just be wasting my time by fiddling around with this one (and I have precious little spare time at the moment).

Watch out, if your not subscribed to PDAConnect plan and you change your apn from wap.cingular to isp.cingular then you will be charged per kb
As for orb, I have it working fine on WMP and XDALive. I think all I did was disable the medianet proxies and change the UDP port on WMP. It does go through Locating, connecting, paused for a brief setting then buffering and voila.
Ty Fone,
I know all about the PDA connect and do have that, but thx, what you did was essentially what I did to get it working.
I have had no problem using orb, as long as the proxy has been disabled.(using either vanilla or wxdl). But I can not get Sling player to work at all. The sling log shows an error with the audio codec....Man, I really miss my sling player....orb is just not the same

I just randomly chose port 1024 and disabled the auto speed detect process and set it to wi-fi/Lan.
Also forward the ports on your home router for orb so it will have a better upstream. Head over to portforward.com for help with that.

Actually I am using 2003 and use Windows media encoder 9 on a computer at home to broadcast my tv at a very watchable bit rate. I wouldn't suggest using it to watch anything with lots of action but for news or your typical sitcom it is great.
does the tv get streemed to the pda using GRPS ?
if so then wow
Yeah it is streamed through GPRS. Don't get me wrong... it's by no means perfect, but I have no problems watching it. Sometimes when there is not a real good signal it my buffer a few times but other than that I have had no probs.
I use microsoft enconder too, but use on my bluetooth network and it works quite well at 109kb and 148kb. Will be buying a wifi card soon should be able to get it to stream at least at 548kb.
please don't flame me for not searching the forums if such a topic has already been discussed - my search function simply isn't working. I have however browsed the forums with no luck. I was simply wondering if it is possible to use my athena as a media extender- not just control it but view videos, music and pictures the same way i would through an xbox or a pc.

orb is ok but id prefer something to directly sync with my Media Center setup at home.
Also my Athena crashes whenever Media Player loads up. I've got PK's Black Touch 2.0. Applied the WM fix but it didn't work.
Wondered if anyone has tried this..... haven't had chance yet

Try using Webguid on your media center pc. It integrates into the mediacenter application and is a ton more stable than Orb (especially on Vista). It's free for XP and Vista media center users and is very easily navigated on a laptop or handheld (more than Orb was anyway, and yes I've used both). Webguide is the closest I've come to turning my handheld into a media center extender as I can get.
I don't have the url, but a quick google for webguide+mediacenter should get you going in the right direction. Also, try using TCPMP to view the streaming on your handheld instead of WMP.
Good luck.

If it helps, I tried the various WMP fixes without success until I saw the one about previewing the skins. This is what worked for me:
1) In options uncheck open in library screen.
2) In landscape mode go to options and select skin tab. Wait until the skin appears - takes a few seconds
3) In Portrait mode do the same as for 2)
That worked for me. I don't think I did the "play a track from playlist" trick, but I did have a playlist set up. Reason I can't be sure is that this is the third time I've had to rebuild my Athena with PK2.0 because previous 2 versions got stuck during hard reset after I had set various things up.
Hope this helps someone
Simple problem. I have several thousand mp3s at home and want to stream them to my phone so that I have all my songs regardless of my location. Even an 8GB MicroSDHC card will not hold all the songs, so streaming is the next best alternative.
I've tried using ORB, and it's a great idea, but the interface through PIE leaves much to be desired. It's difficult to drive around and click the little links, even on large font. Also there is no easy way to queue songs up without making a playlist prior.
Are there any alternatives to ORB that have a better front-end? It'd be nice to have a touch-friendly scrolling type of "catalog" of my songs, and then stream/queue them when I select them. Doesn't seem so hard.
I even tried creating a home web page with IIS, and that worked to a point, but there's got to be something better.
Thanks!

I read in one of the other threads that SanDisk has announced a 12GB micro SD available this summer and they speculate that it may be a 16GB by the time it comes out.
I agree 100%...I love ORB but it is way too difficult to navigate.
They really have it all down except the few things you mentioned
Anyone else??
SelectRadio 4.0.2 ?

Lobster Tunes will do it for you. It's not free, though.

What do you find bad about Andromeda? I was thinking about giving it a try...
Here is one I have been wondering about. What software can you use to stream your local radio stations to your phone? I know about tuned.mobi and such, but the problem is that when a game comes on, they usually block the broadcast of the audio stream even though it is playing on the local AM radio station. I want to be able to broadcast my local radio stations (AM and FM) to my phone so I can still get the games.
I wonder if someone could not write a program that integrates everything available through orb into you wmp library i.e. some sort of plugin maybee we could put together a donation pot to get one of the dev's to work on the project

lol, I have a radio...multiple radios. I think you may have misunderstood me. If I got something like this device would I be able to stream it to my phone? I travel... when I am in another state, I can not stream my local radio station broadcasts through the internet to listen to games (blacked out). However, they are playing on the radio station if I were at home and able listen to my radio.
well I think I finally found my cream of the crop... saw this thread and I have to say, andromeda is the BEST solution I've found for getting my music to my PPC...
it works very well with PIE and is very zippy zippy zippy...
I've tried:
1) lobstertunes - buggy, slow, doesn't work with all ROMs
2) gnump3d - buggy perl script, cool features but crashes a lot
3) orb - as you all have stated, interface sucks in PIE and too hard to navigate
4) andromeda - FAST, stable, and CLEAN... worth every penny of the $20 lol
I like the interface of Andromeda the best, not to mention it's speed. Although you can create a playlist, you still can't just "queue" one up...unless I'm missing something.
Took me some tweaks to get it to work too. Have to rename the asp to m3u and make it executable on the server. I also had to use a third party player.
What player are you using? Also, when I click on a file to stream, it always asks me if I want to overwrite the existing m3u. I say yes and it works fine, but ya know

Do you have a mac?
I'm not sure this would work for you, but it's something that I'm going to try once the needed adapter comes in.
I feel slingbox works really well on my phone and I use it to stream live TV. For my media files I'm planning on using my mac mini which has an IR sensor for the remote and Front Row. The front row interface is very similar to the interface on an ipod and the commands are supposedly supported by slingbox. Once I get the adapter for vga-svideo I will set it up. The only downside I can think of is that audio when watching TV doesn't come over in good quality unless I have it in audio only mode, but this might not be a problem with Front Row where there will be very little visual data transmitted for audio files.
The reason a mac mini is nice is that it has a built in IR sensor. This bet this will work with windows media center too if you have something to control it with IR. Another potential downside is that the computer pretty much needs to be dedicated to working as a media server lest you forget to put it back into media mode.
I've got ORB installed on my home computer and the ORB Live app on my handset. So far I'm able to use my handset to connect to my home PC, view the contents, and stream audio. The problem is that I cannot stream video whatsoever. When trying to stream videos, live tv, or my webcam the handset sits there connecting, but nothing ever streams. Eventually I'll usually get the "failed to stream" message on my handset.
Anyone else using ORB? I'm wondering if I'm suffering from a bandwidth issue, or if my carrier, Mobilicity, is blocking something on their end.

I've been using orb for years on my mobile devices. The ports can not be blocked, not sure which ones orb uses but make sure your router has permissions for the right ones. I did buy the orb app for android and it works good too.
The port blocking may be at your home end or it may be your provider. If it's your provider, check for alternate apn's that may have more access.

Tried Skyfire, didn't work for me. Android mode just constantly kicks me back to login page, can't access anything. Desktop and default mode puts me in a login loop between http and https and eventually throws an error. Tried Androrb too, no good, nothing streams at all.
Got no port blocking going on at all over here atm, just a direct line from the PC to the intarweb, with nothing but windows firewall in between.
Downloading Plex at the moment, will give it a try, but streaming from my tv tuner would be really nice. I'll take what I can get though I guess. I'll let ya know how plex works out for me.
Well, got plex and my handset refuses to connect to the plex media server. *sigh*

yeah, setting up orb was a pain, kind of hit or miss, to get video to work, but once it does work, its pretty good
check the badly organized orb website and their just as badly put together forum
there are some pointers there that, like me, just might get you to get it working
to be honest, it seemed like i did everything i could, it wasnt working, i uninstalled/reinstalled everything, and then it was working
weird stuff
I have been using ORB for a long time (from Windows Mobile) and it's a very easy way to have access to music, photos, tv, videos and documents... The problem is that the OrbLive app does not work with 2.3 and no update has been made to the app...
So i interested myself for one htc media link HD and ordered it for an total of €73,50 incl. package sent
Because of the different models im talking about de dg-h200 from htc. Yesterday order came in and i thought piece of cake plug and play. Well it isn't plug and play and for every other person outside xda it would be an hell to get it working. I won't give up easily but i almost was going too!
Turns out the device delivered has a firmware 1.5...something and when you connect it it all goes well till you have too swipe over you screen to sent it out to the television. Then he want to connect and somewere about 70 % of the setup he quits and says there is an additional firmware upgrade. Would you like to install this? Well hell yeah i will. So pushing the yes button will bring you to another message that says "there is no newer software , this is the latest !
Somewere else on the forum here a guy did get it working without an upgrade of the firmware! But after reading true the manual i found out it had to do with ip multicast. Simply said if your router only providing unicast signal an setup like my phone and the htc media link hd connected to the internet and connected to each other not going to work.
So here is what i did
* I disconnected my phone and router (By disconnecting i mean my phone doesn't know the router anymore)
* Made an whole new setup for the htc media link hd by pushing the button on the front for ten seconds
* setup my phone for an wifi hotspot and then swyped three fingers over the screen so that the phone will connect with the media link
* Offcourse it will prompt you with an update of firmware but now it will update because of the hotspot setup.
* Thought i was done setting up the hardware with this upgrade and made my phone connect with my router acces point again.
* The problem still occured as i was almost done with this media link and willing to send it back.
* But me never willing to give up give it another shot and set up my phone again as an wifi hotspot and swyped my display to connect again with
the media link.
* Again it prompted me with an firmware update as i thought whats going on i all ready did so. I thought what the heck lets update it again.
* When it was done i got amazed from the fact it does updated the media link device again to 2.99...something firmware version
* So i decided to hold the button for an reset for ten seconds again so it was ready for an new configuration.
* Also made my phone know my router acces point again and swyped over the screen again to setup again.
* And there you have it working not asking for an update and doing what he needs to do. ... ! Or not ?
Tested it with all sorts of media,
* games not going to work as wireless give the game an lag time for instance with pinball you push to make the flipper shoot the ball. and done with the media link setup you mis because of the lag time!
Pushed an movie from my synology nas server to my tv ( Not needed in this setup because i can play them well true my wdtvlive hub ) but for testing. It play well but yep there you have your lag again from the audio
* Internet works and browsing true the phone checking photo's works
* Youtube on the phone works without lag time in 1080p
* Did not had any movie on my phone to play so coudn't test that but i recon i will play okay
But all together it is fun to have for 10 minutes and i going to sell mine because of the total not use of it i know will happen!
But the least i coud do is write an review over this htc media link hd for you all ! Excuse me for my english as it is not my native language to speak/write

The mhl adapter I have is an off brand from Amazon. Cost 3 dollars. It doesn't work with the specified app on the phone but as soon as I plug it in and set my tv it's all right there. Is there advantages to the HTC branded one?

Help
Can you tell me how to make Htc Media Link HD working without firmware upgrade?
Sorry for my bad English.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I don't need help any more. My device worked
Hi all,
Sorry if I missed it in the replies, but which item is it that seems to work well with the HTC One X+? Can I get a link to it? Also, will it work with apps too or just photos and movies?
Thanks!
The wireless link should not use multicast traffic... I can't think of any home routers that would support that. Why, if your phone is only sending to the media link, would it even need to use a multicast destination... if it did, every device in your broadcast domain (i.e. your home) would receive the HD content. not particularly good.
I suppose, if HTC wanted it to work without any kind of discovery process then multicast would work.. but this, and the price of the unit has deterred me. Especially since you can get a $4 cable of ebay which does the same thing, just using a wire.
With regards to my specific question, should anyone else need help, I bought one of these for my HTC One X+ and it simply duplicates whatever is on the screen onto my TV via HDMI. Works great!

With regards to my specific question, should anyone else need help, I bought one of these for my HTC One X+ and it simply duplicates whatever is on the screen onto my TV via HDMI. Works great!

My media link worked great as well. Did an update once I can remember. During this time I was using an old HTC One sv to cast Netflix mainly. Since upgrading to an m7, my girl has an m8, everything still works fine, except Netflix! It works all the way up to choosing what to watch. As soon as the video starts to play, screen goes black, just audio, you can still see the play button, the timeline and other options to top right in the Netflix app but video is black until you stop playing. I have posted in a few other places (not XDA), have read couple more of the same problems with no one answering those posts either. Does anyone have A-N-Y idea why the video goes black when it starts to play in Netflix only?
Really about to give up, O-N-L-Y reason I purchased the HTC Media Link was for the purpose of watching Netflix on the flatscreen.................. sigh.

I had my HTC Media Link quit working completely on video feed (not audio) with Netflix. Upgrading my HTC One sv to a Sprint HTC One m7. My girls Verizon HTC One m8 had the same results, mirrored our screens perfectly, played any video along with audio whether it was an email video attachment (asks if want to watch using media link upon opening video), or YouTube, etc.... Found other posts online with others having the same problem. I just happened across a forum posting (like 3 pages) from a Mr. Satan who was fedup with a scene in a favorite movie of his lagging in Netflix. He changed the bitrates (app version 2.4.1), made 3 different .apk's with three different frame rate settings. I tried the 3,850kps or what ever it is and it would load up on phone, let me choose video but the circle kept spinning a bit too long for me. Loaded the 3,000kbps .apk and it loaded up, played well. Went and linked my Sprint HTC One m7 to the HTC Media Link, everything came up in Netflix like before, but lo & behold, when video starts, it shows............ finally!!!!!!!
Only reason purchased this media link, not only because of the niftiness using phone on flat screen but for watching streaming account with Netflix on it!!!!! I am going to go post in a few places where people posted problems. You will not have lag anymore!!!!
