Messages being Truncated in Outlook - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi I have WM2003SE upgraded from 2002 on my SX56. In the Pocket Outlook application all my e-mails synced from the computer are truncated really really early like all I would be able to read was the greeting (Dear Jimmy) then it would say Message truncated tap edit mark for download to get remaining portion. I think it might be because the ROM Image took up so much memory I'm running out or maybe theres a setting to control the limit of size of the messages. But I have put in an SD card with more than enough space for the messages. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone?
I'm still having the problem. I mean what if every single one of ur messages just came with the first half and u had to press a button each time then sync it just to get the other half? Wouldn't that annoy you?

Okay everyone
Well I figured out the problem myself. I went into the activesync settings for e-mail (outlook) and there was all the setting right there limit email size and include attachements!

SMS - Contacts O2 XDA

Hi Guys,
Just a quick question regarding contacts. I sync with my outlook contacts at work, when i try and send a sms i press the contacts button. The thing is, it shows me an entry for each type of number
ie
Ali 07833454543
Ali +442078763345
Ali [email protected]
so thats three entries for one person !... as you can imagin it makes the list very long.
is there anything i can do, so that it just shows one line for each person, but when you select it, it shows the other numbers?
thanks
Ali
any ideas chaps?
a no would do
Mine does the same mate - don't know how to resolve it, SMS Name doesn't fix it that's for sure, and I've loaded SER 1.2 now... I guess it's 'cos you're using multiple service types, you have to see the different addresses (POP3/SMS)
in outlook, are your contacts displayed correctly?
What would be REALLY intelligent would be some way to have a shortcuts or "speed dial" list for SMS addressing. I only send SMS to a half-dozen people out of my 225 contacts. It would have been smart to allow you to address an SMS with the speed dial contact or some other list.
Any developers want to create some software for this? Guaranteed I'll buy it.
sms
its a lot easier with ppc 2003

ppc2003
hi
in ppc 2003 you dont have to find the contact by pressing the contacts iclon you just type there name in and it gives you options on the name also it has a character counter so you know how many you have typed. it also seems to run faster and my battery seems to last longer. i havent set the internet up yet but i will this coming week.

Threaded SMS Issue. Help!!

I have Palm Threaded SMS installed on my WM6 Hermes. Every so often a message gets caught in between the original SMS program and the threaded program and displays messages saying "2 Unread Messages" when there are none unread.
After redoing my whole OS for the billionth time a friend gave me instructions on fixing the issue. Install a registry editor like Total Commander, Clear out my inbox and turn on flight mode, Install Palm Threaded SMS, Open Total Commander and go to: \\ - Registry - HKLM - Software - Microsoft - Inbox - SVC, then Rename “SMS” to “SMS1.old” and Rename “MMS1” to “MMS1.old”, turn off power via power button, turn phone back on and turn off flight mode.
Yeah, so it worked okay for a week or 2, then the messages became stuck again.. showing "2 Unread Messages" when none were unread.
I also tried to display my normal "Inbox" on the today screen so that I had access to reading my outlook e-mail, and that display now ALWAYS says "SMS: 1 UNREAD"
Is there any new Threaded SMS program that won't allow messages to get caught between the programs? I'm so tired of having to reinstall WM6 in order to get rid of the Threaded SMS and reinstall it so that it doesn't say I have all of these messages that didn't go through, and now my SMS isn't even working properly. Apparantly people are receiving my texts, but their replies are not even coming through on my end at all. Help!
I could swear I just answered this...

Gmail "The message(s) could not be sent..."

***Update 10/29/08***
Just found this update, supposedly from someone high up at Microsoft. Seems plausible to me.
***Update 12/1/08***
I "guess" that fix made the problem a little better for me, but it didn't stop the error. The good news is MS has released a fix for the problem.
We'll see...
I'm going the reverse the instructions from the preceeding "fix" (registry edit), delete my current gmail account, soft reset, apply the MS patch, then recreate my account.
***End of update 12/1/08***
If you've used gmail for outgoing email long enough I'll bet you've seen this error while trying to send at some point, which then prevents you from sending any more emails via gmail:
"The message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again."
I've seen it using many dcd/no2chem roms using gps and non gps radios.
There are loads of "fixes" on various forums that suggest specifying server port numbers, requiring/not requiring SSL, etc. .It's been my experience that only one fix fixes the issue consistently.

Creating this new account with a different name is the only fix I've found that works consistently, at least for a couple weeks.
Status...
I said in the other thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2398125&postcount=82) I would wait to test... Well guess I am not good at waiting.
After recreated with a UNIQUE name it is sending fine. I will see how long it lasts.
Another thread here with some of the setup info.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385575&highlight=gmail+imap+sending
Yup, I've needed to create unique names from Gmail to Gmail6 before to get messages sent.
Never seems to work for more than a couple weeks.
7-12 thru 7-18... Looks like I am on Gmail02
This is a real pain!
That it is!
All I've been able to do is file an error report with Google.
Sure would be nice if someone knew Pocket Outlook well enough to investigate...
I'm having the same trouble and don't use Google for email.
I monitor 4 accounts with my Tilt and the one that causes me problems is the Exchange account, using IMAP and SMTP. The other 3 IMAP accounts use Courier/Qmail and they have never posed a problem.
I even tried sending my Exchange account email using my Qmail SMTP server and it too triggers the error.
It has gotten to be such a pain in the ass that I'm evaluating FlexMail which works so far, but is a bit slow.
My money is on a problem with Pocket Outlook.

For what it's worth, I use a free app called Seven (http://community.seven.com/) to have my Gmail messages pushed to pOutlook my phone, and I've never encountered this problem that you guys are describing.. and i've been using it for about 8 months now.
Thanks for the tip on Seven. Nice how it runs behind the scenes, preserving Pocket Outlook's interface. Too bad how it'll only retrieve messages < 30 days old, but it'll be a good fix for me if it stops these errors...
Huh, I hadn't noticed that limitation, but now that you mention it, it would be kinda nice to be able to go back in my email history a little further (heck, we've got enough internal storage space for it). Anyway, good luck with it.
There's always native gmail...
I prefer to use native gmail running in GC's Java midlet. With native gmail, you get...
a familiar gmail interface
20MB attachments received right on your 6800
full access to read and modify your contacts
access to your complete gmail history, with search
your gmail labels
THREADED messages!
What's missing? A way for your 68000 to inform you, "You've got mail".
Updated first post.
Does this affect DCD roms or just the stock Verizon one? or both?
omg
I have been tearing my hair out since I have had my phone over this. could not figure it out, only solution was to delete the account and re-add
I will follow and try this
Thanks
Hi - I have a similar issue with gmail. Incoming works perfectly via imap, however outgoing emails do not work at all. I tried the smtp fix patch from MS, changing outgoing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.gmail.com:465 or 587 and it still doesn't work. Also tried to create the account again to no avail.
I used the standard settings on gmail site https://mail.google.com/support/bin/...y?answer=78886 - dunno what I am missing here!! Any help would be nice
I am trying this on a brand new htc diamond.
I am using FlexMail 4 and have never had a problem sending or receiving with gMail IMAP. I can not, either, send emails using ms pocket outlook. I can receive emails just fine. This is a bug in MS Pocket Outlook as described by earlier post.
I "guess" that fix made the problem a little better for me, but it didn't stop the error. The good news is MS has released a fix for the problem.
We'll see...

I don't know if you guys are using 6.1 or not, I just found this thread while googling the error message and found a solution that worked for me.
Here is the official Microsoft patch for this problem and it seems to have worked (at least so far) for me. I just downloaded the cab, my phone restarted, and sending emails works again.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d2dd-44f2-86e5-1e53aad7fb7a&displaylang=en&tm
Hope that helps.
I was and still am running 6.1 (dcd 3.2.6). After applying that patch I don't get the error as often, but I still get it with gmail and my work IMAP. I haven't had to recreate any accounts since the patch, only a soft reset's required to start sending again. So, for me the patch has been an improvement but not a fix.
To me, a fix here will be the best part about 6.5, assuming they fixed it (I have no idea)...
Thanks all.
Just to say the MS patch seems to have fixed things - this evening at least.
Interestingly, I've got three different gmail-based accounts on my phone. Two of them stopped sending, but the third remained unaffected.
Thanks again!

Mark all mails "as read" - any solution?

Hi all.
concidering amount of the brains (and I mean in a good way), passing those forums, how come nobody haven't find a solution to mark all unread e-mails "as read". At the moment I´m using POP3 account and I got about 30-50 e-mails per day + some spam. So it is quite frustrating either open every single e-mail or just to ignore green sign with number of unread e-mails in the home screen.
... or is it only me who will find this irritating...
anyway - cheers to everybody. Great community here. In the pass I was probably only WM user in my neighborhood, who could actually use it ...thanks to XDA, as all the problems I had, got answers here.
What about check all email accounts for new email solution?
You can delete em all... but may be that's not what you want. So if you don't wanna read them all, you should be able to change your POP3 setting on the mail server in such a way that it does not send you the spam. You can also choose from within the HTC mail app how many mails per day you want to download. I know this is not the solution but am just suggesting something.
I would like to know that too! It is really annoying to read emails you dont want to read or you know what is in the email.
Would be nice to have an application for it

just to clarify... my problem isn't the spam and not the quantity. As Im using my laptop as primary worktool for checking email etc, im using my phone only when outside the office, basically in the near future I stat to use exchange anyway (waiting the setup), but this is something at the moment that I would like to solve (as it was solved when using WM diamond). Just imagine, have read all 30 mails received by noon and driving out of office, when checking mail while driving, I got all the mails received/read earlier shown as "new". Simplest thing to do, when not using IMAP, is mark them all read, which should be something easiest tasks with WM phone but not with Android... I hope you understand ....
basically I have lot of unread e-mails. I will pick up the ones I think are important (based on the subject) and read them, all others I will ignore and I would mark them "as read".

OK, the bottom line is the mails you don't regard as important, you don't wanna read them ever... so why not "bulk delete" them??!! Cuz I imagine you just don't wanna see the mail icon displaying those mails as a green bubble. You can do so!! When in the HTC mail app where all emails are listed, press menu and select delete >> you'll see a X icon in from of every email >> you can select the ones you don't wanna read ever and then delete them all at once. I found it quite handy. But the Exchange server would be great once you get it. I just hope that Yahoo mail also becomes IMAP.
Ok you can delete, but stilll if you want to save some emails for later. This is a missing function.
Open GMail in your browser (so not the hero app):
Do a search :
in:inbox in:unread
Then choose select all.
You will get an option of selecting all mail in the search.
Choose action: mark as read
And tada, all mail is read!

hmmm.... I have no idea what do you talking about...
R U sure this is HTC Hero standard mail app, you have this "search unread" option and "select all" option? My phone sure as hell doesn't have this function.

true, true...
saphuis is probably talking about gmail app, not the inbuild imap/pop/exchange client.
This is a missing feature, we need to be able to select multiple messages and do stuff with them, currently this only works for delete ( Menu-delete )
I'm not sure, but if you don't need exchange, you might be able to use default android mail app, that might have the features you request ... quick google search did not help me to be sure ...
should have been more clear.
Had the same problem. Could only solve it in the browser gmail environment.
OK, another idea to solve the problem in its current state (although it is not an alternative to including the desired feature in the mail app!!) >> How about moving all the unread mails at once to another folder e.g. Trash?? That way, you'll still have them but won't see them in the inbox or as a green bubble.

Wow, you are right ! Nice one
well this might work, but it's lame. how can it be that this device is advertised as the uber-internet-and-mail-smartphone and is not capable of the simpliest tasks... this has to be improved, it's a shame.
i mean, we're not apple, so this should be possible without three major os releases, shouldn't it?
POP3 doesn't support 'Read' as a flag does it?
AFAIK, the App keeps track of the last message it saw, and downloads new ones since its last download - but there's no Read synchronisation between different POP3 applications.
You need IMAP for that - or use Gmail to collect your POP3 mail and then use the Gmail app instead..
I have my HTC Mail linked to my Apple MobileMe account.
If I read, delete, not read a message on the Hero, this is reflected in Mail on my Mac.
Seems they are synced pretty closely.
Sorry, not in any way helpful here, but just wanted to highlight the fact.

POP3 didn't have this option with WM as well. Issue here is not the difference between IMAP and POP3, but missing feature on the standard E-mail app on the HTC Hero (android op sys) to select all unread messages at once and mark them as read.
There are different options how to mark them unread and all these options are fine until you have couple of e-mails per day, but if the quantity of the e-mails is quite high, then all those options (like manually selecting each e-mail) fail.
So basically this is the reason I hate to use e-mail app and one and only advantage of Windows phone comparing to android at the moment. ... I hope this advantage of WM will dissapear soon.

Gmail Question

On a previous ROM when i open the Gmail app and read an email then delete it the email just deleted, im now using stock LF8 and it's superb for battery life, anyway ive noticed when i delete an email but then i check my Gmail on my laptop it looks as if it has been read but it's not deleted, id be very surprised if this was ROM related but i just thought id ask anyway as i said when i had a custom ROM on my phone i deleted the emails and they deleted as normal on the app, i haven't changed any settings in Gmail,it's a bit annoying having to delete the emails again after i thought they had already been deleted, there's bound to be an explanation to this, anyone know about this?
112 views and no one has any clue?
On the lower right side of your keyboard is a key with the "." Symbol on it. Please use it sometimes.
And while you're at it, also use use the Enter-Key sometimes. That will make reading a lot easier.
Furthermore your sentence construction of saying everything redundantly in one huge sentence reminds me of my mother
Is the email actually deleted on the phone and is sync enabled? (It may take some time for changes to propagate)
Yes sync is enabled and................
(ill just skip down here to appease you)
when i delete the email on my phone and i then check Gmail on my laptop it shows as read but is not deleted,im wondering how this is possible?
still ****ing happening.....anyone else????
i'm having this problem too. anyone know the answer
