A2DP fans, a cool new article has just been published! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

Guys / gals, I’ve just posted a really cool comparison & roundup of three stereo BT headphones: the Nokia HS-12W the Plantronics Pulsar 590 and the Plantronics Pulsar 260 to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1161097 . Make sure you don’t miss it if you’d like to choose a stereo Bluetooth headphones model or just would like to know more about A2DP – it’s a MUST for all A2DP fans!

Thank you very much for a well researched atricle on the A2DP standard as well as a few tests on BT Stereo Headsets.
I would like to support your findings on the Nokia HS-12W.
I have had mine for a while now and used it on the AKU 2.3 RSA 1.35 ROM, with mods to the registry as well as Sleuths A2DP fix. This worked surprisingly well with only the odd skips occuring.
The newer AKU 3.3 ROM's have sorted out the A2DP problems and the quality is now near perfect with good range as well.
However I have also purchased the HTC BHS 100 BT Stereo Headset and found this a bargain at the price.(also running AKU 3.3)
The price in South Africa is half that of the Nokia and the quality of the sound is virtually similar. But the HTC headset has an advantage.
The mike is built into the device which is smaller and lighter. The earphones use a 3.5mm jackplug, so it is possible to use your own earphones of choice. This really is great as the "pocket" now becomes the limiting factor to quality.
The range is good with unobstructed transmission up to 15 plus meters.
For travellers the advantage is that the adaptor(small) only needs to be taken with as this fits onto the Hermes mains charger.
A further advantage is that when using the oem earphones that are supplied, the left earphone can be unplugged, which will make motoring safer as ones' hearing is not impeded in traffic. It then becomes a mono BT phone headset.
The wait for this device was long in coming, but well worth it
I trust someone finds this informative.

Bluetake i-PHONO mini Bluetooth or Nokia HS-12W?

I'm planning on buying a stereo BT headset.
Based on the use I'm planinng and my personal taste, etc. I'm down to these two:
- Bluetake i-PHONO mini Bluetooth
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2960
- Nokia HS-12W
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2986
Now I can't decide myself. I can't test it cause they're not available locally yet. Price is similar.
I guess Nokia is more versatile, has radio, LCD that can be fully used in the future (new ROM's?)
But the concept of Bluetake is great also. Don't know if it's a bit bulky.
I'm more on the Nokia side right now.
Can you people with wizards (and cousins) give me some insight about those two options, maybe some detail makes me decide....
Txs!
RE
Hi format,
I own the iPhono mini 450Rx and I tell you the sound quality is simply fantastic when combined with the right software player on my QTEK 9000. FI, I'm using the free GSPlayer which comes with effects like an equalizer, 3D, Surround, Bass Boost, preamp, Reverb and Echo etc etc. Conduits Pocket Player is another great software player with many effects too.
IMO, the most important thing in choosing a stereo bt headset is the sound quality. Features come second.
iPhono mini 450Rx comes with great sound quality although its other features may not be as good as its competitor like its shorter battery life compared to ANYCOM's stereo bt headset.
Have not tested the Nokia one so no comment.
Thanks FOSA,
I don't konw where to buy the bluetake so it could be a problem with warranty. I only see it selling on ebay (USA) not on europe nor any other ebay.
Also I whish I could see a bluetake, live. Nokia has a more regular headphone look except the case that has a good metal look (although it's another item to carry....)

I-tech Clip R35, bad sound quality :(

So, It works ok, no skipping issues, but the sound quality is subpar, even with the bluetooth regfixes. Hard to describe, but there is a hiss or more like a high pitched whine in the background, and it sounds tinny.
My sony ericcson ds970 worked a lot better in this respect, but does it works good as a handsfree set on the tytn? on my previous phone it did not.
Isn't that a bit of a letdown I wonder if the S35 has the same problem...
Mr
Well, it'd be interesting to know if others have the same problem, and if people are able to fix the ds970 skipping issues, because it's sound quality is good.
I got the ds970 to work handsfree I even mapped the voice command to it and works like a charm, I still do get the every 30-50 second skip in audio.
Mr
So, how bad is the skipping?
it's a one second skip every 30-50 seconds on mp3's,
doesn't skip during voice calls (at least I haven't noticed any)
Mr
Tell me when it's fixed or when another as good headset comes out
I've used the S35 with my XDA IIi (Alpine), MDA Pro (Universal) and XDA Mini S (Wizard) and on all three I can say that the audio performance is excellent. I suffer no skipping at all.
Yes, it's skip free for me aswell, the R35, but the soundquality is pooor
This must happen on the songs you are playing, or you are an especially keen audiophile.
I am listening to Vanessa Mae playing Minuet (WMP) as I am typing this on PIE with my Dopod 838 Pro... there has been no skipping so far and the music I am hearing has no hiss nor is it of poor quality as described.
In all, I think this R35 has been a good companion on my travels so far, giving hiss free and distortion free use, works as a stereo headset as well as voice headset, with my Dopod 838 Pro, and I can even replace the ear buds with ones I prefer, which is a lot more than can be said of existing competing products in the market.
But then again, I am no audiophile and my ears are old, so the lack of quality may be undiscernable to me.
It's not the songs, and I'm not that much of an audiophile, the stock miniusb headphones sound good enough, maybe you could compare with them?
The r35 sounds much much worse than those.
What rom? do you use btw, I could try yours, I don't know if there could be differences between individual R35s.
Personally I find that my R35, combined with sennheiser MX500's, gives as good as the built in headphones. I also find that I'm getting good range (circa 5 metres - less range if air isn't the only intervening material - although skipping/noise increases with increased range).
I used the bluetooth and audio mods recommended on the tytn wiki.
Also have the r35 - have to say that on my headphones and in the car (via mp3 jack) there is a bit of a tinny sound. On the stereo system in the house, however, it has a much better quality...
UPDATE
---------------------------------
Enabled joint stereo again, set quality to 58, reset and repaired the R35, and voila, rather good quality, no skipping.
It's still a little bit noisy and tinny, but it's good enough, I'm using it with the excellent Creative 630 in-ear headset, good for better bass reproduction. Maybe some tweaking in pocketmusics equalizer could do it good.
Anyways, happy for now, let me know when something that improves a2dp comes out!
Where can i purchase an R35??? (hopefully a Black one)
Ebay baby.

Do we know when the HTC S100 (almost the same thing) is going to be released?!?
I also got the itech R35. Got it working fine, no skipping etc. All buttons work fine with WMP.
But I also noticed the poor sound quality. I apply the registry tweak:
[HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings]
Add new dword, Value name=BitPool; Value data=58 (Decimal)
Add new dword, Value name=UseJointStereo; Value data=0 (Decimal)
My registry does not have the Settings folder under A2DP and I created it manually. It also does not have the UseJointStereo with the original value data=1. I added this one manually too.
Anyway, after adding those registry tweak and reset my PPC, no sound improvement at all. I also repair the PPC with the R35, and no improvement on the sound quality at all.
Any clue?
So you wouldn't advice me to buy them...Well the problem is I have ETYMOTIC 6i Earphones and I would like to use it with TyTn...I know there should be out an adapter for this...any suggestion?
anyone that has a good sound quality with the itech R35?
I only use it now in the car to connect to the car stereo AUX input for receiving phone calls.
asci, other BT adapter that also has the normal 3.5mm audio output is the Globalsat BTH-820. Never tried it, so I do not know the sound quality. But from what I read, its not the BT headset/adapter, is the MS BT Stack that cause the poor sound quality.

Best outside of ear BT stereo headset

I am looking for a great BT stereo headset. I've had people say mixed things about the Sony DR-BT30Q. I want these for the gym, so the in ear ones are kinda out of the question, as when I sweat those kind tend to fall out of my ears and I have to constantly push them back into place. Thanks for the help.
The Motorola HT820 is nice. AVRCP works (as long as you're using the right player) and there's barely any skipping, depending on your A2DP settings in the registry.
i love my ht820s ive recently just set them on Hermes using the skipping solved patch but ran them on Magician for ages.
they have great battery life a great price with excelent sound.

Recommended bluetooth stereo headsets

I've been using Plantronics Pulsar 590A for some time and they have worked flawlessly. Good sound and I can easily go into another room still with good sound and no interruptions.
Yesterday I tried the Sony DR-BT20NX and was really disappointed. Excellent sound but the sound dropped when I turned my back or held it behind my back. Tried it with both the Tytn and the Qtek 9100 with the same result.
Just add to the list, it would be nice to know in advance which headsets work well with the Tytn
Plantronics Pulsar 590A
Sound: Good
Reception: Really good, can walk around in my apartment without sound dropping.
Talk: No complaints except if it's really windy.
Design: Ok, however one "ear" flashes blue while in use. Makes you look like something from star trek...
Sony DR-BT20NX
Sound: Good
Reception: Extremely bad. Can not even put it in my front pocket without the sound dropping
Talk: Didn't even try. The reception was so bad these were not an option.
Design: Excellent. Looks good and you just put the strap around your neck. While not in use there are small straps for holding the plugs in place so the cable doesn't get tangled.
I really like the Jabra 8010. The hook is flexible and adjustable. It's taken awhile for me to get used to it though. I've worn a Jabra 250v forever. It has a small cord that goes around the back of the neck that hooks onto the headset on the other ear. You can use mono or stereo.
I use it/them with the HTC 8525. It brought out volume issues with the phone that I didn't know I had though. Searching, reading and people on this forum helped me get those issues fixed and now everything works perfectly.

Plantronics 590!!
I'll cast my vote for the Plantronics 590. Phenomenal with the latest A2DP and hardcore's tuning tips. Never a skip and the battery life is incredible!
More than once while listening to my Hermes with them have I've pondered the exorbitant amount of cash I've sunken into my home theater over the years.
Motorola S705
I agree on the Plantronics 590. They really raised my expectations, I thought all headsets were equally good which I have found out they are not.
Has anyone tried Motorola S705? They seem really awesome with lcd display, 3,5 mm jack (you can use your own headphones), radio, good battery life (better than with the Sony ones according to a forum I read) and BT class 1 instead of 2 which gives them a theoretical range of 100m instead of 10m which is standard. A little bigger than many but I am really tempted giving them a shot.

Interesting.
I think (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this) that both the BT transmitter and the BT reciever need to be Class 1 to get the kind of ranges that they state for Class 1 devices. I don't know of any current phones and only a few USB dongles that are Class 1. Class 1 devices are also more power hungry.
blueant
I highly recommend the blueant ones (X5?). I have them and then another three friends bought them. It also comes with a 3.5mm transmitter so you can use it with your PC/ipod,etc.

I'm really not looking for a device that has 100 m range, but I figure that if it has that kind of range having the phone in your front pocket or moving around in the apartment should be no problem.
Btw. The Plantronics also come with a 3,5 mm transmitter so it can be used for pretty much everything.
The Motorola set does not come with a transmitter but you can buy one separately. If you buy one you can pair it to the phone and another source at the same time. For example, if you are streaming music from your computer and you receive a call, the music mutes and the device switches to your phone.
Plantronics 590
Probably worth noting there's also Plantronics 590E which is headphones and charger only and is a great option for those who don't need all the trimmings included with the pricier 590A.

I think the pricier ones are a really good buy since you can use them with all equipment imaginable. Forgot to mention that they also come with a regular cable so if you are out of battery or sitting on a plane you can use them without bluetooth.
Wavesystec BT-1000
Saw these in a swedish shop. They are from Korea and I haven't heard of them before. They were charged and I got to try them out. The sound was good but a little low on base. They were really small and I like the way they look, although the shiny front seems to smudge easily. All controls worked like a charm and I could put them in my pocket and walk around the store without any interruptions. Maybe not hifi but the were quite cheap, the store price was 700 SEK (or about 100 $). I'm thinking of going back later this week and test the call quality. Found a website with the specs here:
http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/11283714/Bluetooth_Headset.html
Edit: Tried them again and the call sound was good. However, the bass was really too bad so I won't be buying them.
ive got some gear4 ones, get to just over 20M appart before it drops the audio, and need to get 10Ms away for it to pick it up again.
5hrs play back
paid £11.49 for them off amazon hen they done a deal!
Plantronics 590A The Ultimate Bluethooth Voice Command Headset
Yeah! the ultimate headset, a superior breed, the best on the market, top of the line, I believe that says it all, yeah! the ultimate headset........!
Plantronics Discovery 655
... works great with my Hermes.
Long battery life, easy charging from the same mini-USB cable, good reception and signal distance.
HT-820
i gotta mention my Motorola Ht-820s which were brilliant on my magician (with alota patching) but are flawless and ever lasting on the Hermes.
How about the ITech R35s? I've been debating buying them off ebay. They get real good reviews and seem like they would beat out any other kind since you use your own headphones with them!
Even has controls to switch songs. Some reviews say media player on windows mobile supports the controls some reviews say it doesnt.

I have a Nokia HS-12W as well as a HTC BH S100 and both work well on the latest WM6 ROMS.
I use the Schap's ROM without any reg edits.
The advantage of the HTC is that it has a 3.5mm jackplug on the earphone side so you can attach your favourite earphones.
The sound of the Nokia blows away my IPod. Deep base and rich treble.
The range on both are about 10 to 15 meters in an unrestricted enviroment.
The Nokia costs about twice as much as the HTC in South Africa.
I can recommend both of these Stereo BT Headsets.

Well...I bought my R35 off of Ebay and I'll say that I'm a happy customer. Sounds great to me with Sleuth's WM6 LVSW variant, A2DP skip fix, and seems to hold a charge for a decent amount of time before needing recharging. I would say that they are not very good at the telephony part however...whenever I answer or make a call with them...I always get complaints about sound from the other party. They do work with WMP for what it's worth though. I'd say they are a worthy A2DP investment especially if you have a favorite pair of headphones already...
I have some Logitech BT head phones but they are just too big/bulky for jogging, gym, etc. I was thinking how nice it would be to have my phone in my gym bag and the little R35 clipped on!

These are not stereo though...
I bought the Pulsar 260 since the Pulsar 590A have worked really well. At first I was quite disappointed but I then upgraded my rom to LVSW and the sound was dramatically improved. Some slight background noice but nothing big. Controls work well and the range is fantastic. Also no interruptions yet.
The only thing that irritates me is the cable length. You can easily clip it to your belt and so if you hang it around the neck there is a lot of cable dangling around. The sound during calls where adequate but my girlfriend said there was a little squeking noice every time I stopped talking and it was a little irritating. This was with the old rom and I have not yet tested call quality with the new rom. I will report back on that.
Edit: The call quality is adequate and the sound did improve with the new rom. The squeking sound is gone, only a little static left but nothing much.
I am very pleased with me Nextlink spider.
I got one on sale from Radioshack for $40 bucks I believe a while back. I've heard that some of the units have problems retaining battery but I have no problems with my unit. I get really great sound and reception in my 3 bedroom house. Callers can hardly tell that I am not speaking directly into my phone and its comfy too.

Which BT earpiece for my Pro?

Guys I need to purchase another bt. Been using my Treo bt and it's getting kinda old. Read too many opinions on what works best. Thought about the Jawbone 2 but I hear it is too low. What is working well witih you? Thanks
I'm using the Jabra BT8040. Works like a dream. I had the first jawbone, and don't care for another. PITA.
http://www.staples.com/office/suppl...=home&cmArea=SEARCH&catalogId=10051&langId=-1
Blueant V1
I just bought one for my pro, the head piece is the best fitting unit I have ever owned, the head set is also voice controlled
I'm also interested in one too.
Haven't used one in over a yr, use to have a moto bt but it was a pos.
Jawbone2 all the way. I have had no complaints with it at all. My girlfriend would always get mad at me when I would talk to her over the pone on my bluetooth because she could hear all the background noise. Now she doesn't even know I am using a bluetooth. As for the volume no complaints. I did install a cab file to fix the speaker volume and I think they said something about bluetooth in there also.
Blueant V1 All the Way!
I've owned both the Jawbone 2 and Blueant V1. While the Jawbone has slightly better noise reduction, it has to be plastered to your face to work. No such problem with Blueant. V1, and it is voice controlled.
-Doc
Guys if I go with any of these headsets where would I get the correct cab file for the volume that you have used that works and it doesn't still need to be tweeked? For those that have used the Jawbone do you have problems keeping it close to your face? For the others that use another BT device do yo have background noise issues and is the volume acceptable with or without the cab file up\grade? Thanks for the replies thus far
I use Motorola H9 MiniBLU Bluetooth Headset. I love it. I haven't had any background noise issues. didn't have to use any .Cab. I got it right from Sprint.com
http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASA...ID=HBX3520R_C&topPageNumber=0&subPageNumber=0
It was on sale for $70 but isn't anymore. One of the coolest things about it is it has its own battery charger that you can put it in when your on the go and it will charge it with out being plugged in.
I haven't had any problems with the Jabra either. No background noise. Amazingly no static. I've even streamed audio from the kitchen counter to the deck with no problems (about 20 ft through two walls and a glass door).
The battery life seems to be very good. I charge it about every 3rd day with moderate use.
I also have not installed a .CAB file for the audio. I did however use the "Diamond Tweaks" prog to enable louder audio, which is probably all the .CAB file does.
Plantronics Voyager 855.
Can be switched between mono and A2DP stereo.
Jawbone 2 is working aces for me. No complains at all.
Yeah Jawbone 2 FTW!
I Work for a major Retailer and I've gotten to test many headsets with my Touch Pro during hour long conference calls, I think that the Jabra BT530 is one of my favorites; A2DP, 8 different Ear Gel's, optional ear loop, a great headset for those that get tired of that same old feeling on the ear.
Jabra BT530:
http://www.jabra.com/Sites/Jabra/NA-US/Headsets/Pages/JabraBT530.aspx
The BlueAnt V1 is also a very good choice. Very good quality, both foam and gel ear tips, and it has the ability of firmware updates! What's not to love?!
http://www.myblueant.com/v1_voice_control.htm
I use the first generation Jawbone, and works great!
I've used jawbone / jawbone2/ plantronics 955 and now the blueant v1. The blueant is the best of the bunch for me. Jawbone has a tendancy to rotate away from your face and fit was always difficult even though they gave you multiple earloops/gels (kind of tells me right there that fit may be an issue). Plantronics 955 was nice and compact but blueant is the most comfortable and is extremely clear. The voice activation is a nice plus but I find I do not use it much as I use ms voice command to reach all my contacts instead of just the contacts in my speed dial list.
I'm using the Moto H15. Functionality wise, couldn't be happier. My wife says that it is the clearest she's ever heard me on any headset. Design wise, I hate the clip. It's secure, the headset fits well and comes with additional molded ear pieces to customize the fit. But the plastic clip is a beast to remove. I'm always afraid I'm going to break or mangle it.
I had a Palm 800w and used the Plantronics 925 on it, sold it and bought my Sprint Touch Pro and still use it and it has always worked great for me.
i tried 3 different types of bluetooths on my sprint touch pro and everyone says i sound underwater also had 3 different pros. i even did a firmware update for my blueant v1. i am using my corded headset for now. are there any cabs to help with this? i saw a volume cab but i do not need this.
J2 no doubt, whatcha mean it isnt loud
Jabra bt 8010 works like a dream for me plays the music and video audio through the earpiece and call quality is great, battery life last 10 hours long its a great earpiece id highly recommend
