Orange M3100 and soft after Hard Reset - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi all, and congratulations for this forum.
One thing i observe when i hard reset my orange m3100 is that not only install soft from extended rom when i hard reset, but install soft from other site, cause install a couples of times. First install one amount of pieces of soft, that includes MMS composer and other things, and then, with the pop up window, install all from extended memory.
Is like use ROM from install same software, and after that, delete from ROM.
Anyone have this CABs?
Can i put all the CABs in extended memory and bypass the soft install after hard reset?
Thanks in advance.

If you have the original orange rom, then all the customisation cabs are in extended memory and it installs them one after the other - there are four I think.
If you hard reset and then sfot reset before the customisation starts, it will not load the orange cabs - but you wont have the MMS, data connections etc and will need to manually enter these. It is easy to unlock the extended rom though and run individual cabs.

I think what he is trying to say is something that i also noticed.
When it does the customization it runs some cabs that are not in the ext rom. The first block that it does as stored somewhere else.

Check the preautorun / preconfig stuff in \windows folder.

Thanks
Hi again.
Thanks for your interest and answers.
Well, Des makes me take a look at \Windows folder and find this...
One file PreConfig.txt with next content:
LOCK:Enabled
EXEC:\Windows\SetAcousticParam.exe /Run
EXEC:\Windows\SetHSDPA.exe /Disable
CAB: \Windows\MP_CVSDcpl_20060503.cab
CAB: \Windows\MP_DRMfilesave_ESN_060329.CAB
CAB: \Windows\MP_IMGSave_ESN_060329.CAB
CAB: \Windows\MP_MMS3.2_Amena_Hermes_060818.CAB
CAB: \Windows\MP_Ringtone_Hermes_ESN_060328.CAB
XML: \Windows\PP_Connection.xml
XML: \Windows\PP_Generic_UI_ORAmena_Hermes.xml
XML: \Windows\PP_OtherConn_ORAmena_Hermes.xml
XML: \Windows\PP_UXC_ORAmena_Hermes.xml
XML: \Windows\PT_Remove_ModemLNK.xml
EXEC:\Windows\cusTSK.exe \Windows\Orange2006.tsk
Hide:Enabled
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\autorun.exe
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset
This means that two instalations procces take place after hard reset, am i ok?
the first one from \windows folder and second one from extended.
One interesting question is that this file remains in \windows folder after instalation, so one posibility is to move this to extended and liberate space in main storage, am i right? if so, how can i do that?
Thanks again, i read a lot in XDA forum and learn so much.

Help with 1.72WWE ROM for Orange M1000 I've created

Hi all...
Could some clever chappie confirm the modifications that I've done to the ROM below and let me know whether what I have done is correct, and that my device should be flashed withouth (too many) problems and work like a charm...
I've downloaded the iMate 1.72 ROM from here:
http://www.mtekk.com.au/browse/page423.html
I also downloaded the ROM off of the Orange UK site here:
http://web.orange.co.uk/story/sm_1047574.html
I used ER2003Edit to open the old ROM and extracted all the files from ms_.nbf to my HDD.
Using ER2003Edit, I opened up the new ms_.nbf ROM and removed:
3_networkname.CAB
I then added the following files to the new ms_.nbf ROM:
ClearTypeFonts.sa.CAB (nice ClearType fonts...!)
ClearVue233_WWE.sa.CAB
cttune.cpl.CAB
homepage_Notes_UK.CAB (not sure what this is for - any ideas?)
MIDI56.sa.CAB
Orange_network.sa.CAB
Orange_UK_customization0608.sa.CAB
OrangeUK_AP.sa.CAB
UKORGCustomize.CAB
The last four files I presume are all to do with setting the phone up with the correct settings for Orange - if not, could someone let me know what they are all for...
I didn't add one file as I thought it might be specific to the 1.66WWE ROM and that was:
MsSkinFix.sa.CAB
I have no idea what this does, but can try to guess from the filename what it does... Is this needed with the 1.72 ROM?
I also modified the startup splash screens to those of the Orange 1.66WE images.
I updated the config.txt file and is listed below:
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\TPDisable.exe
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Broadcast_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CameraRC132_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CallerIDRC12_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ClearVue233_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MIDI56.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MMS1.6.0.14WWE.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\cttune.cpl.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OrangeUK_AP.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version_AKU1_16600.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\UKORGCustomize.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\frontlight_wavedev_dim.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\homepage_Notes_UK.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Orange_UK_customization0608.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Orange_network.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MsSkinFix.sa.CAB
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\TPEnable.exe
RST: Reset
Right... now that's all out of the way... Could some clever person let me know the following:
1) Have I done this all correctly?
2) Will my device upgrade without any problems?
3) If I have problems, will re-flashing it again work (I had to flash mine twice when upgrading from the non-MMS ROM to the MMS enabled ROM)?
4) Is there anything else I have forgotten?
5) If all the above are ok, is anyone interested in trying out this ROM? - if so - PM me
Hopefully someone can help...
why do yu wnat to create a new ms_nbf file?
Just unhide/unlock the ExtROM and change it as you like!
I miss in you config.txt a cab named WWE......CAB. This file usually contains some settings you need.
Why didi you remove 3_networkname.cab? This file contains the correct network names of 3 operators that obviously are not in the 1.72 OS/radio ROM
If you do want to create a ms_.nbf, try to open the nbf using xda2nbf.exe
Using ER2003edit you might have corrupted the header!!!!
Use xda2nbf.exe too to update the checksum!
Could I ask you a big favour please.
Could you post on here or send direct to me the following cab file you listed in your text:
ClearTypeFonts.sa.CAB (nice ClearType fonts...!)
ClearVue233_WWE.sa.CAB
cttune.cpl.CAB
homepage_Notes_UK.CAB (not sure what this is for - any ideas?)
MIDI56.sa.CAB
Orange_network.sa.CAB
Orange_UK_customization0608.sa.CAB
OrangeUK_AP.sa.CAB
UKORGCustomize.CAB
I have lost my orange settings when upgrading.
Many thanks,
Johntheo

I've currently got 1.66WWE ROM and want to upgrade to 1.72WWE - hence the need to get everything in the ms_nbf file first.

I removed it as I thought they were of no use to me as I'm using the phone in the UK... I've since added it to the ms_nbf file now.

Oh right... I've not searched on people having problems with ER2003Edit but I will do.
One last thing, what might this file do (as I'd left it out from my original post)...
frontlight_wavedev_dim.sa.CAB
Thanks in advance...
XDA II keeps on Hanging
Hi
I had upgraded to i - mate 1.72 wwe rom downloaded from i mate club in the month of April 2004. Every thing worked very fine. Now my i mate has started hanging, some times even hard and cold reboot also stops responding. At this time I have to remove my battery for about 10 sec. and replace i mate hard resets. I have even purchased another battery to check if it is a battery rpob. but same things are repeated with the new battery also. Please help me in resolving my prob.
Regards
anil
Your ROM is ace!
Just realised that a load of posts from this thread are part of what got lost. I downloaded the ROM you posted and have just set it up - it works really well, thank you so much, I have wanted 1.72 for so long and I don't think Orange will ever get themselves sorted and update it themselves. Nice work Ninjadonkey, thank you for your efforts!
One more comment.
Please look at the post by dcs on avoiding future country code errors because:
You seem to have used the iMate ms_.nbf file.
This will get you into trouble with next upgrade because the device the thinks it is an iMate (country-code set to CDL), where as you will assume it is an Orange.
Regaring Ext. Rom files (ms_.nbf) its always best to use the original (in your case Orange 1.66) one and just change all the files / other contents . . .
Yep, you will get that problem if you use that ROM and want to upgrade in future.
I have created a new ROM using the method dcs documented in his post which I could upload if needed.
As far as I know, there is not going to be another ROM upgrade for our device so that might negate the need to use the new ROM I've made.
Just to check, NinjaDonkey, I noticed by checking the Extended ROM details in ERedit, that it was set to Orange, not i-mate, so does that still mean we won't be able to upgrade officially, or does that solve any country code issues? Not that I'm too bothered, I've read all dcs's stuff on sorting country code problems anyway and I'm sure I'll figure it out if I have to (in the unlikely event that Orange ever do release a 1.72 upgrade in the UK!) Thanks again for your hard work!
As you've read the post by dcs, you'll know that EREdit only sets the operator code in one place - the place where the software looks. The other one is coded into the device (don't ask me how).
I had no problems using this ROM while I had it installed (about 2-3 weeks). The only problem I did have was re-flashing with a properly edited ROM (with both provider codes set to Orange). After I got the first country code error, I set the "software" provider code to CDL then tried flashing. I got the country error code, but as stated in dcs' post, just edit the country code in the rom to Orange (with EREdit) and it flashed fine.
Out of interest, what ROM did you change to?
I changed to the O2 1.72.187 (either 187 or 181 - the one without BlackBerry).
Can't see any difference between the OS ROM from O2 and i-Mate. The only differences are in the Extended ROM as far as I can tell...

trying to modify the config for WM2005, but it does work, why

I have added in this command in the 'config' file
CAB: \Extended_ROM\IntelliPad_TMO_WWE_B12.sa.CAB
also inserted the file
IntelliPad_TMO_WWE_B12
so a hard reset, it just dont install.
another way, i did , is by unlocking the extended rom, and install the intellipad, it also doesnt work
how come ?
please advice

TyTN (M3100) Extended ROM Cooking?

Hi all,
I've spent the past hour looking about here on XDA and the net to find out how to modify the Extender ROM of my M3100 to install extra programs of my choice after a hard reset. A few points to mention first.
1. I used to have a Universal and now the M3100 so I'm familiar with WM5 devices.
2. I've unlocked the Extender ROM and have full access.
3. I've tried my best to solve this before writing this post.
4. The best info is found here - http://pocketpcdubai.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/582600994/m/7891086801
So my issue. Here is the original CONFIG.TXT
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_PC_Hermes_Orange_REG_060612.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_defaulthtm.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_Fix_ShowTodayTheme.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\HERMES_UK_BUILD_93_CLOCK.CAB
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset
I am only interested in adding .CABs to the install. The files I added were:
PocketPlus.arm.cab
fit4cat_Hermes_Tweaker_v1.1a.cab
tcmdpocketarm.cab
Phone_Pad.CAB
So I added the files to the Extended ROM and updated the CONFIG.TXT to:
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_PC_Hermes_Orange_REG_060612.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_Shortcut-MMS-Hermes.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_defaulthtm.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_Fix_ShowTodayTheme.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\HERMES_UK_BUILD_93_CLOCK.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PocketPlus.arm.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\fit4cat_Hermes_Tweaker_v1.1a.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\tcmdpocketarm.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Phone_Pad.CAB
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset
After a hard reset I see the files are installed, they appear in the auto install app at the beginning but once the device has reset they are not there, not one of them! I must be doing something fundamental wrong but there is no good examples available anywhere to check my changes.
Anyone help?
Gav.
The new cabs don't install because they are not signed.
On the Universal there was a signed cab which changed the security registy setting to allow installation of unsigned cabs, so the solution was to add this cab the first one, and other unsigned cabs after this.
I tried with the universal cab on the hermes (htc tytn & dopod roms) but it didn't work
Hi Pof,
That'll explain it! Should have to worry too much as not intending to hard-reset the device often and it's quite easy to install manually.
Thanks for the info.
Gav.

First the CAB must be SIGNED.
Also the ROM must have the autorun.exe feature to tell it to run on HR, also some have a preconfig run cooked into the actual OS ROM too.
you need to cook your OS rom (or flash a cooked OS which already does this) to allow non-signed CAB files to be installed.
extrom
Hi there,
i have an other problem, my hermes did a hard reset (after playing with Sktools) ,and the bad thing is that i took all the cabs out of the extrom to free space and install other.
Now, after using V3a unlocker and the cab mountAllExtom, i see the ext rom
and can erase progs in it but the memory remains in use . i only have 0.84 M free .
can someone help me to recover all that precious space
Thank you

HOW to get extended rom in DCD 2.3.1

1. you will need No2chem's basekit 5048.
2. you need DCD's kitchen 2.3.1
Then the fun part....
Go into No2Chem's OEM/OEMDrivers directory and copy the OEM_FLASHDRV.DLL folder.
Paste it into DCDs kitchen OEM/OEMDrivers directory.
Then go to DCDs ROM/XIP directory and edit the boot.rgu file.
Add these lines to the bottom of the boot.rgu file.
*******************************************************************
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV]
"DefaultFileSystem"="FATFS"
"Name"=""
"PartitionDriver"=""
"MountHidden"=dword:0
"Folder"="Extended_ROM"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\EXT_FLASHDRV\FATFS]
"FormatTFAT"=dword:1
"EnableWriteBack"=dword:1
"EnableCache"=dword:0
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\EXT_FLASHDRV]
"DriverPath"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\EXT_FLASHDRV"

"Order"=dword:12
"Bootphase"=dword:2

"Order"=dword:13
"IClass"=multi_sz:"{A4E7EDDA-E575-4252-9D6B-4195D48BB865}"
*******************************************************************
Then get the no2chem_nueExtROM package and put it into the DCD OEM directory.
BUILD - BURN - ENJOY!!!
P.S. Thanks No2chem and DCD for the awesome work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.P.S. There might be an easier way but this worked for me.
Extended Frustration
Is there a purpose for having the Extended Rom? With older devices you were able to unlock the extended rom and use it like an internal memory card but afaik there is no way to unlock the extended rom, right?

With No2Chems nueEXTROM you can unlock and write to the Titan extended ROM. Just like the 6700.

How much space is in the ExtRom?
Slightly less than 10MB
thanks dude...i've been working on a custom rom for myself and no i can include this....whooottttttt
so is this like another 10mb to put things onto, or 10mb for programs to use?
Is the extrom cleared with a hard reset? If not, it could be cool to store CABs in there to reinstall your programs after flashing. Isn't this what happens when the Sprint customization runs?

its like having a 10mb sd card inyour phone, it doesnt get cleared unless you run a stock rom ruu or delete files from it. nice to have in case you have to hard reset out on the road, you can get all your cabs installed without an sd card
The EXTRom is copied from ROM during a hard reset. So anything you put in there will get erased and copied over from the ROM. There should be a way to create a .nb for the ExtROM and flash your device with it to pre-populate the cab's you want in there tho.

hmm. thats not how it worked on the apache. a hard reset just touches the os rom, not the extended rom. otherwise it would erase the carrier info and programs on a hard reset... that would defeat the purpose of it.
hello, I followed the guide exactly and was successfully able to unlock the extrom and erase /write to it, but i now have Extrom and Extrom2 in the file explorer. they are both the same 9mb memory allocation ( i wrote files to both,, different files, and soft reset. Both drives ended up showing the 2nd file i wrote to whichever extrom, so they are the same drive. anyone have any ideas how to correct this?

Ummm... no it restores the OS and Extended Partitions. Your carrier info is not located in the Ext ROM it's located in .provxml files in the OS. Customization programs are located in Ext ROM and during a hard reset are restored.
You also basically just retyped what I explained in my post. The Carrier provided files in the Ext ROM are restored during a hard reset. But anything you have put in there by unlocking the Ext ROM and making it read/write will be gone after a hard reset.
Feel free to try it yourself.

After reading some of these posts I wanted to clear a few things up but then I noticed Fallingup had it exactly correct!!!!
Only two ways to wipe your extended rom...
1. unlock it and erase it yourself OR
2. Install a custom .nbh file specifically designed to over right the extended rom.
If you uncompress an OEM rom.exe file you will probably find thee .nbh files.
1. is for the rom itself (like what DCD and No2chem put together)
2. is the Radio!
3. Contents of the extended rom.
Since we our content directly to the rom through OEM packages it is unnecessary to have cabs there for a custom rom install. Therefore, no one wastes there time building custom .nbh files to write to the extended rom. ALSO, if you have it unlocked, when you build your custom OEM packages, you can specifically target the extended rom just like you target the windows directory. NOTE: this last bit is for completeness all that is really needed is an emphatic statement... The Extended rom DOES survive a hard reset AND it survives a CUSTOM rom install as well. (unless you build a custom .nbh file to write to it)

theres actually a third way, which is when the xip specifies to format the extended_rom partition, which would cause your extended rom to be empty on boot, even if you wrote to it during a flash.
also, you don't need to download the entire basekit, i posted the necessary files to insert to oem on my website. also, stroths has developed a cab so you don't have to install it to rom.

Both drives ended up showing the 2nd file i wrote to whichever extrom, so they are the same drive. anyone have any ideas how to correct this?

I am getting the same results here. Something is duplicating.

theres actually a third way, which is when the xip specifies to format the extended_rom partition, which would cause your extended rom to be empty on boot, even if you wrote to it during a flash.
also, you don't need to download the entire basekit, i posted the necessary files to insert to oem on my website. also, stroths has developed a cab so you don't have to install it to rom.

Do we still need to modify the file in XIP. Because I tried your files (not from basekit) and I added the code from 1st post. I ended up with 2 ExtRoms. both duplicates.
