Need Help plz...Shelltool taking long time to flash - G4

I am trying to flah Wizard_MB_1010811_21911 rom on my 8125 but shelltool is sitting on this message "Do not disconnect the Wizard during the process" from last 40 mins. I followed the instructions in shelltool doc step by step.
Phone is unlocked and I am using it with Tmobile US.
Can anybody help me with this? is my phone is bricked?
Followings are the specs of my Wizard.
IPL 2.25.0001
SPL 2.25.0001
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.25.11.1

Its unlikely that shell tool will brick your phone, maybe render it unusable until you reflash another rom.
have you read the thread that details the use of the shell tool. There is alot to read but many problems are discussed there.
Shell tool shouldnt take any longer than about 15 mins, it takes me about 11-12. It seems as though you need to disconnect and reflash with wizard love or your carriers rom before reattempting to use the shell tool. Even though your post indicates that you followed the instructions step by step this may not be the case.
Shell tool most often fails because people dont miss a simple instruction such as dont run any other apps in the background, or turn the phone off.
As i said before i think you need to disconnect and reflash another rom such as wizard love or your carriers rom. Then you can attempt to use shell tool again hopefully with success. Keep us informed on how you go.

yes, my file matching that name is 72.3MB.
Its in italian but you should be able to work out what buttons correspond to next, back, cancel etc. If not just memorise them from another RUU.

I flashed the Wizard love rom and the process went through without any problem. One more question, I am using this sheltool "ShellTool_bugfixed.zip", can you please confirm that it is the right one. Size of this zip is 1.04MB.

Yes that is the correct one.
Read the instructions carefully and you shouldnt have any trouble flashing your rom.

Why are you guys using an obsolete flashing method? Shelltools became obsolete when SoftSPL was released and now there is even HardSPL(CID unlocking).
Shelltools is a slow and painstakingly annoying process but SoftSPL is much faster, sometimes finishes flashing in less then 7 minutes and is very stable and reliable as long as you flash back to the Wizard love Rom or T-Mobile Official Rom first but even that is not entirely required, just recommended...

Help.. yes i've read till my eyes bleed

No worries I haven't bricked my phone yet.
I bought a G4 Cingular 8125 that was advertised as unlocked. I know its sim-unlocked at least because i'm using it w/ a t-mobile sim card.
Trying to figure out if it is CID-Unlocked. How do you do this? I've ran EnableRapi and Cert_SPCS, rebooting after each and then tried to use the shell tool to even just view the current ROM info... all it shows in Comments is "This is a custom rom". Have also tried to use Wizard Service Tool to view information about my Wizard but to no avial I can't seem to get that program to run.
Any suggestions? I'm lost right now because everything I try doens't seem to get me anywhere. Only thing I haven't tried is running the Rom Updater Utility with a new Rom, as that seems my only option left to see if its unlocked or not right?

Make sure ... Is it a G3 or a G4? Soft reset if you don't know for sure, and look for the 0001 on the end of the IPL./SPL version numbers.

G4 -- it's very unlikely to be CIDunlocked - you can only do it by paying imei-check for the software and unique key .. and it's unlikely the previous owner did that without telling you about it - it's a key selling point !! But nowadays it's not so vital anyway. The ShellTool method works perfectly IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY - and will allow you to change ROMS without threatening the sanity of your bootloader ... I've done it three tinmes so far.

Yes I did read almost everything. I have a G4 My IPL/SPL is 2.25.0001 so yes its a G4...
I've read each item you posted about 3 times each. Even the bs responses to them I read not just the first page or so. I've also read the faria install tutorial and tried that. I've also done the shell tool tutorials and i'll explain the problem that arises.
Also EVERY time I follow the directions EXACTLY on shelltool nothing happens.

I put on Wizard Love and it does what I was trying to accomplish. Still would like to try out a WM6 Rom to see the differences but not the big of a deal to me anymore.
Also if you read my post... I bought my phone from craigslist... advertised as unlocked. Trust me when you meet a guy you can barely understand for a phone that costs $220 you don't wanna sit around in his car and idle chit chat. Specially in the area that we met. When I asked the guy if it was fully unlocked he said yes or it should be because I paid for it. Also my phone isn't branded with cingular 8125... not sure if it makes a difference but it is branded with HTC

It's a G4 - so it's unlikely to be CID unlocked whatever the vendor told you. Proceed as though it is CID locked.

It's from the nk.nbf rom file you put into the same dir as shelltool. If its there, you'll get the info, if it isn't - you didn't read the instructions properly ...

I had the fast flash problem too. Turned out to be a corrupt ROM file. Get one of the ROMs from the list that's regularly posted around the forum. Alternatively I used the one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762 this thread. Don't forget to use the password when you unpack it !!
I'm afraid that's the best I can do as far as help is concerned .. good luck .. it worked for me

Flash to wizard love or your carrier's rom. Then use shelltool, if you get stuck repeat the process. Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts.

If your new I plead with you to read the wiki and the sticky's in the wizard forums. Then you can come back here and ask whatever you like. Most people on here are very friendly and helpful but all we ask is that others read a bit before asking. This reduces the amount of redundant questions.

I could never get any rom to flash on my locked G4. Tried Shelltools with about 4 different roms w/o success. Finally broak down and paid the $42 US to imei-check.co.uk for their unlocking service.
Now I'm unlocked and back to flashing until my hearts content - Running NBD 8.3 w/radio 2.69.11 on my Cingular/ATT 8125.
Avoid the grey hair and if ShellTools doesn't work after the second time, pay for the service.

Stuck on a splash screen,
I also had a same problem after flashing by Shelltool and stuck on a splash screen.
Flash back to custom setting using RUU tool and Wizard Love rom.
(wizard love rom is for G4 cid locked wizards. It doesnt have IPL/SPL section)
Again I have flashed Most beautiful ver; using shelltool and now i am enjoying new WM6 on my G4 locked wizard.

After you stuck on splash screen, Your device wont detect by activesync to use with RUU (rom upgrade utility) tool. But still you can go to Bootloader mode (rainbow screen) by holding camera button while you soft reset the phone. Run the RUU tool after you manualy set the bootloder mode. RUU tool will detect your device on USB with bootloader mode (your PC not giving any sign of usb connectin but RUU detect your devise)
Othewise RUU toll give you 'error message 260'
This method was worked for me.

yes that right! once you unlock you dont ned shell toll you can flash to any ROM!
also if you wanna use shell tool flash to trisyndicate and then to the rom you want to flash (both use shelltool) it werked ofr me

Those are two separate updates/flashes I performed after CID unlocking my 8125.
There is a thread in the WM6 forum containing NBD 8.3 and just do a search for the 2.69.11 radio. Just be sure to also search for the Cingular CAB fix for the 2.69.11 radio.

Help with phone not responding during update?

Ive just downloaded udk_6.1 Lizard rom, i go through the initial process, everything is connected properly ans when i run the ROM update utility the bootloader works but when i accept the connection on my phone it disconnects from active sync on my pc and the rest of the upgrade obviously wont work as it doesn't think that the phone is connected! Ive hard reset the phone back to Black 2.5 (my last successful flash) but it still wont update, it gets to the bootloader screen as follows:

IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM300
SPL-1.07 .ds
Anyone got any idea of the problem?

While in BOOTLOADER MODE it is normal for the phone to be disconnected from the ActiveSync!
Do you use SSPL for flashing? Your IPL / SPL versions tell me that you did not Hard_SPL your phone!
What I asume, is, that your RomUpdateUtility.exe is not compatible to your phone!
I have this issue with T-Mobile and Orange ROMs. The only way for me to flash them, is, to extract the nbh file and flash it either with CustomRUU or with the UPDATE UTILITY from my shipped ROM.

Education is good
The most important part of Junner2003's answer was the comment about you not having HARD SPL. If you're going to start flashing ROMs, particularly the radio rom, you run a (small) risk of turning your phone into a brick. Hard SPL can in most cases help you recover from this. The latest available release from Olipro is Hard-SPL-2.10 (Hard-SPL-V7) which you can get here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722.
Also, if you start hunting for stuff on the XDA-developers site, the search function sucks. Try using google as set up in Mike Channons sticky here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893.

OK EVERYONE, MY PROBLEM IS RESOLVED, BUT I WANTED TO POST EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED FOR EVERYONE TO SEE, ESPECIALLY FOR NEW FOLKS... AFTER HAVING THE ISSUES ABOVE, I CONSULTED WITH MANY PEOPLE TO TRY MANY, MANY METHODS OF RECOVERING THE DEVICE. ALL ATTEMPTS TO RECOVER WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AS IT APPEARS THAT I USED THE INCORRECT UNLOCKER!!!
BASICALLY, THE UNLOCKER THAT I USED IS THE OLDER ONE, THAT SHOULD NEVER BE USED ANYMORE! AFTER THE SPL WAS ERASED, THE PROCESS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR BEFORE IT WAS ABLE TO RE-FLASH THE NEW SPL. I HAPPENED TO CALL HTC AS A LAST RESORT, AN ONLY TOLD THEM THAT MY PHONE WOULD NOT TURN ON. I THEN SENT IT TO THEM, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH I PURCHASED THE DEVICE USED, IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY DURING THE APPLICABLE DATES (WHICH IS 15 MONTHS FROM DATE OF MFG).
SO IN SHORT, THEY REPLACED MY MOTHERBOARD, AS THEY FLASH MEMORY CHIP WAS UNABLE TO BE RE-FLASHED. LUCKLIY, I WAS ABLE TO GET MY DEVICE REPLACED AT NO COST, BUT THIS MISTAKE COULD COST SOMEONE A $1000 DEVICE!!!

Hi
You could try Hard Reset BY Volume down+Stylus reset. if it turns on and load OS then you can use the unlocker again without Sim and Memory card(but your pc must have netframe work 2.0 installed and updated). If your device failed to load OS then you have to find the original rom for your device (which you can download from this website "use the search function") then unlock your device with olipro's latest unlocker.

I got this once when I tried to flash from the memory card.
Remove both memory and sim card and battery for 10 mins.
make sure you are disconnected from the puter.
put battery in and hold the camerabutton all the way in and press the reset pin and hopefully you will enter the bootloader proper.
Which version of olipros unlocker did you use
Try to use the last version as it is less prone to trouble and works better on x7501

hay there first time some thing like that happen to me i was stuck for hours but then i got into boot loader in flashed the pk 3.0 and it worked so if u can see the olipro 1.20 thing then its all good and if u cant then mabee ur f***d that type of error u got its supose to cum near the end

Sorry that you are having the same problems that I did. Unfortunately, I can't bring you much comfort as I tried everything that I could find or was suggested. I searched every post and put out multiple cross-postings (that is a real sign of desperation for me!). Ultimately I had to get a new unit from Amazon as I could NOT get it back from the land of rainbow death that you see in the pics. I am no expert with the Athena/Advantage but I am also pretty experienced with computers and rarely ever get myself into a no-win like this. It takes alot for me to give up and declare a piece of equipment beyond my ability to fix, but this was one of those times.
I think that I traced the eventual cause to one (or a combination) of the following:
- Leaving the SIM and the Mini SD in the unit during the flash process
- Some glitch when using vista with the bootloader
- Using an older version of the OliPro unlocker (very likely the cause)
- Somehow panicing during the unlock and interupting the upgrade. You MUST do all three steps of the unlock to be safe.
I repeated the unlock with replacement unit being careful to use the latest bulletproof unlock and had no problems. But the original unit did have to go back.
I sincerely hope that you have better luck! Tell me how it turns out! If there is any other info you think you might be able to use from my experience, please ask away!

nope, the second and third steps are only for sim unlocking

I stand corrected.
I would caution though, that for new users it would be best to follow the procedure through all 3 steps. As I understand it there is no harm in doing this other than the increase cost in time and effort and may be less confusing and safer then just doing the first.
Is this correct?

nope, it's got nothing to do with the radio version
it's another area where simunlock info is stored

well it can't do much harm, of course less flashing means less risk, and step 2 and step 3 both flash a radio.
as a newbie i'd imagine it's easier to just do step 1 because step 2 can cause corruption to the OS so it needs to be reflashed and the black screen scares the newbies etc.

What I have noticed reading this board too is that sometimes the type of USB cables used matters. I do not know why, but this happened to me too. I failed at step #2 and couldn't figure it our why. To resolve this I changed everything. From computer to usb cables to fresh files, to restore old image and re-tried the process and it worked.
Also one thing I noticed is that the old unlocked is linked allot instead of the new unlocker which is almost bullet proof. Some folks did download the old unlocker and tried it on their x7501 and bricked their device....

points to the latest version of the unlocker. The file I have downloaded is dated in November 2007. This is not correct? And what does the wrapper mean?
Could you please explain? I bought my X7501 in the US, but live in Europe and such a mistake could be totally fatal!

Yea, I Agree That It Is Somewhat Confusing About The "latest" Unlocker Version, But While Dealing With The Issues I Have Had Lately, I Spoke With Olipro, Who Makes The Unlocker, And When I Sent Him The Link That I Labeled Bad In The Last Post, He Replied That It Appeared I Had Tried The Older One, And That The Link To The Other One Labeled "good" Was Infact The Best One.
I Could, I Guess, In Some Way Be Mislead Here, But Just For Your Info, I Did Just Receive My Fixed Advantage X7501 Today, And Immediately Ran The "athena_wrapper" Which Is Availible On The "good" Link That I Posted. It Ran Good And Flashed Directly From The Bootloader. Afterwards, I Was Able To Flash My Own Custom Rom With No Difficulty, And All Went Well.

I see. I know that the X7501 is sold unlocked in the US and therefore only the 1st step of flashing the SPL would make sense. That means that if run the athena wrapper, all will be OK for flashing radio, ROM etc. I that correct?
Two more questions, if you don't mind.
1.Did you need to install .NET to run the Athena wrapper?, or is it kind of pre-installed mostly?
2.What is your experience with the cooked ROMs? Running stable? Can you flash back the original ROM if required?

I ran the 'wrapper' this week, step 1 only, so I could upgrade the radio driver. I first ran the bad unlocker and got the 'black screen of death', but after reflashing a good ROM, then the good 'wraapper', then the latest radio all is well.

Mods - first time post and im not a regular user so if im breaking the rules i apologise. I have spent hours already trawling the forums, but i am now admitting defeat and I need your help!
My Problem:
I have an x7501 SPL 1.06 0000, WM 5.0, GERMAN OS
I want to upgrade this to WM6.1 ENGLISH
I dont care what the SPL is, as long as it works, is reliable, and wont disable any standard WM functionality
I am not interested in tweaks, hulks, or other (non standard) tricks, i just want to get the device running a stock WM 6.1 rom
That said - if you guys think that going to 6.5 is the best (non beta, no risk) option, then im quite happy to go that route.
$50 reward to the first person who provides the following info IN A FORMAT THAT I CAN UNDERSTAND. im good with computers for a non pro (and can follow instructions , but this is just over my head!
I Need:
1) Link to an unlocker and instructions how to use, that will give me the required SPL (note my SPL is 1.06 - will this require two SPL flash steps??)
2) Link to a stable ROM that retains all windows functionality, and instructions how to use it.
If i find that i used two or more peoples help i will split the reward accordingly!

This will give you SPL 1.2
Here is a handy thread with step by step instructions on upgrading your roms you should read through before beginning to flash...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429013
Unfortunately, the stock-like wm6.5 roms made by michy-prima that ran on spl1.2 are no longer hosted on any sites anymore. I can try to contact him for you and see if I can get a copy directly from him. I will see if I can do that.
Otherwise, you can change your spl to 3.5, which you might as well do anyways, as there are more roms for that spl and even the stock-like michy-prima roms were made in spl3.5 also, so if I can get those, I will get the spl 3.5 versions.
So to then change your spl to 3.5, you must have first used unlocker to make spl 1.2, then the only way that was made to change spl to 3.5 was to flash the Athena Project 4 rom, so go to this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387409 and download the AP ROM V.4, unzip it, and run the flasher while your phone is connected with active-sync to your computer. This will install the spl3.5 and the AP4 Rom.
Now that that is done, you can choose any SPL3.5 ROM to flash... (make sure to only flash SPL3.5 Roms now... if need be, there is a way to go back to SPL1.2 if you need to, but there really is no reason you would need to.)
Probably the most modern rom with the most features would be the AGB Version 3.00 ROM, The Hulk one (I know you said you didn't want that, but it is the most current rom, and you can easily change the theme and wallpaper on it. This is the ROM I have on my Athena... its a nice ROM.) Here is the thread for that ROM... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614158
Just unzip the rom after you download it, and like before, hook phone up to computer and let it sync, then run the installer. You can also use the ealier AGB roms, too, if they look better to you, or any rom you come across as long as it is a spl3.5 rom.
And I will try to contact michy-prima to see if I can get one of his old clean wm6.5 roms or his stock wm6.1 roms, but I wouldn't count on me being able to get one from him. Personally I think the newer AGB ROMs are alot better and more recent and updated and would recommend using them.
Also, here is a convenient thread I just found that has links to many different builds and useful tools and guides... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518 ... so if you want to try out a couple wm6.1 while you have spl1.2 or even after flashing spl3.5, as a lot of roms are made for both spls. Just make sure you only flash roms made for the spl that you have on your phone.

MichyPrima's roms are no longer hosted, but I have heard good things about Taxists and Sogarths ROMs. You can easily try a rom and then flash another if you don't like it. Just remember, make sure to flash roms for the spl that you have. If you have SPL3.5 and want a spl1.2 rom, there are links to the tool to change back to spl1.2. The only way to go from spl 1.2 to spl 3.5 is to flash the Athena Project 4 ROM, then after that you can flash any spl3.5 you want. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

AV disabled
Athenaunlocker added to firewall exceptions - im on a work network so firewall is controlled through group policy - so i cant completely disable. do you think this might be the problem?

I've been reading through the forums trying to find an answer... at what point does it show this error? Is it right away? Does the x7501 change screen at all or do anything? I think I remember having problems like this when I unlocked it years ago... but can't remember exactly what I did. Does the x7501 go to it's tricolored bootloader screen at all? It maybe is having problems installing usb drivers while it's in bootloader mode if it changes into bootloader mode when you get that error. Let me know asap so we can get this solved. Also, have you tried using another cable at all?

I'm kinda thinking he gave up or something.... I've pm'ed him and have been trying to get more info on his problem for a couple weeks. I think he was having the problem on the first step... and the enablerapi will probably solve his problem.
But doing all this reading and trying to solve this problem has got me to pull out my old athena and start playing with it again... it's been a couple years since I've used it... I'm on the HD2 now, dualbooting WP7 and android.... but I've gotten an interest in getting my athena set-up and working again. The athena was way ahead of it's time.... if we could get devs interested in it again and get a good android build ported over, it would make an awesome tablet/phone. I think I'm gonna try to play around with getting android booting on it, but my knowledge of linux and low-level kernel work is limited to none. The best I can do is try to put together a build with what kernels/tools are already out and working on the athena, which isn't much. I think they had it booting and got touch screen working, but not much past that.

ok - so i unlocked successfully but i think i may have fcked up. when i read olipros unlocker thread its says that only step 1 is necessary, ("but if you do step 2 you must also do step 3")
as i was trying to get to spl 3.5 i presumed that i didnt need to do step 2 or 3. this might have been a bad choice.
heres what happened:
ran unlocker step 1, it worked, phone rebooted. i finished there as i wasnt sure if i needed step 2 or 3
loaded bootloader screen to check spl. spl said olipro 1.2. i though cool - rebooted phone and now its a black screen. i can get into the bootloader screen whish says:
ATHE100
IPL-V1.00
ATHE100
SPL-V1.20. Olipro
have been reading up on next steps, or how to get rid of blackscreen but no conclusive answer.

Well. I'm not an expert (my Ameo was unlocked as I bought it) but if I understand, the black screen is because the ROM on your device dont match the new SPL you have. Try to flash a new ROM (SPL 1.2, right?) should help.

as i was trying to get to spl 3.5 i presumed that i didnt need to do step 2 or 3. this might have been a bad choice.

ran unlocker step 1, it worked, phone rebooted. i finished there as i wasnt sure if i needed step 2 or 3
loaded bootloader screen to check spl. spl said olipro 1.2. i though cool - rebooted phone and now its a black screen. i can get into the bootloader screen whish says:
ATHE100
IPL-V1.00
ATHE100
SPL-V1.20. Olipro
have been reading up on next steps, or how to get rid of blackscreen but no conclusive answer.

Just replied to your pm before checking this thread, so I see that you can still get to SPL bootloader screen. So, what you should be able to do now is get your phone to bootloader screen and hook it up to pc like that. Then let any drivers that are installing finish, and where it says "serial" at the bottom should change to "USB".
At this point, you can now run a custom rom installer and flash a new rom. Since you want to change to SPL3.5, you should install the Athena Project 4 ROM.
Or if you want to leave it at this SPL for a while and test out a couple WM6.1 ROMS that use this SPL, just flash one of these. Here's a good thread that lists almost every ROM available with links and says what SPL they're for... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518
I'll do a little more research also about the screen not coming on to make sure it's not some other problem, but it probably is just the current rom isn't compatible with the new SPL.

Also, make sure you have the SD card and sim card removed when doing flashing. And check what radio you have on your phone... you must have atleast radio 1.50 or higher to use Athena Project 4 or most WM6.1 or WM6.5 ROMS.
