Flashing advice... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

A long time ago I flashed my T-Mobile UK Vario II with the HTC South African 1.35 Full ROM Upgrade package.
Some time has passed and I'd like to flash with the HTC AKU 3.3 ROM or try one of the WM6 cooked ROM's. The only problem is the methods used to flash have changed and after reading the Wiki's and forums, I'm still confused!
Now, because I used the package, the SPL is now version 1.09. From what I've read, this means I cannot upgrade the Radio ROM only. No big problem I thought, but if I flash again with the HTC 2.05 ROM package, I won't be able to upgrade the Radio from version 1.34 to the latest 1.38.00.10. Is this correct?

no worries. All radio RUUs nowadays automatically load Des' Sspl which can flash any radio. Simply load 2.05 then go flash radio 1.38.00.10 using pof's link.
To be safe however, you should load Bootloader 1.10.Oli after you finish the 2.05 upgrade but before you flash the radio upgrade. This will guard against a flash failure that corrupts your CID. Tomorrow, I'll build a sspl based Installer that loads Olipro's 1.10.Oli bootloader & post to the WiKi since everybody should have this.

Thanks for clearing that up Sleuth. Its made things a hell of a lot clearer now.
Will update to the 2.05 AKU 3.3 ROM + 1.38 Radio and then to WM6 once you lot stop releasing a cooked ROM every couple of days.
Many thanks!

What radio to flash?

I have just flashed the Swedish AKU 3.3 Rom. What Radio should I flash that wont restrict future radio upgrades? I dont want to repeat my bootloader 1.06 mistake which stuck me on a certain ROM (which I didnt particularly like) for some time.
Generally don't flash the radio's that come with the AKU3.3 updates. 1.27.00.00 seems fine and might be one of the better radio ROMs.
Check the wiki for more information.

Downgrade to Radio: 1.06.00.00

Hello,
I have a SPV M3100 and I upgraded to WM6. I flashed the spl and radio and followed the upgrade guide...
I want to put back my old spl and radio so I can send it back to Orange.
Before I had:
SPL: 1.04
Radio: 1.06.00.00
OS: Orange UK ROM
Now I have:
SPL: 1.40olipro
Radio: 1.38
OS: Orange UK ROM
The Orange UK ROM I used was the Reconstructed one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=278060&page=3
Stupidly, to put back everything I flashed spl 1.10.oli then flashed the full ROM but kept getting noGSM and then getting stuck in boot.
To get it working I had to upgrade to spl 1.40olipro again and flash radio 1.38...
I then extracted the radio from the ROM (as its the one I need) and tried flashing it with that but still had same noGSM error.
How can I get 1.06.00.00??? on the WIKI 1.06 is unavailable (which is why I extracted it from the ROM)
In the 'Standard Method' here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
it says... "Your device MUST be running bootloader version 1.04 to upgrade the radio with these:"
Can anyone advice me on this??? I do need SPL1.04 anyway as thats what orange shipped with my phone...
I dont know where to get SPL1.04 and is it correct that radio 1.06 can only be flashed on SPL1.04 and thats why im getting noGSM when I do it???
Thanks Everyone, these forums are great, after thinking I bricked my phone yesturday (flashing the full UK Orange ROM) and getting noGSM it is now fixed
P.S.
If I trust the stuff in the Full Orange ROM I used.... I extracted the SPL too which says its 1.04.
I want to try flashing SPL 1.04 first then the radio, but been advised not to? Everyone says flash SPL last! But I dont see how if it says: "Your device MUST be running bootloader version 1.04 to upgrade the radio with these:"
The problem you are having is that radio 1.38.x.x will have flashed the updated Radio bootloader to HTC_BOOT 108.
Reflashing 1.06.0.0 will not downgrade the bootloader to the required 107, and afaik there currently is no way to downgrade the radio BL.
You should still be able to use the Orange ROM with the updated radio, and if you have to do a orange warranty call, it's unlikely they will complain.
@dlfranks: Read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286755&?p=1217676&postcount=1007
@oliber: he's wanting to go to a radio with htc_boot 0106, probably that's not possible when you've already flashed 0108. I never tried this, but it seems that two users are having the same issue, so probably once you have 0108 you can only downgrade to radios with 0107 (but keeping 0108 on your phone, that is).
thanks
thanks guys, that makes sense. I think ill try the other radio. basicly i have only had it a few days and want to try a difo phone, there happy to swap it in the first 7 days... i just dont want them complaining i messed around with it...
want to make it look as much untampered with as poss!!
at least i got the orange rom on there, it looks good.
if i get the radio to the lowest one i can, how do i go about getting spl1.04 back on my phone. i have read the hard spl threads but cant work it out. i have 1.40olipro. do i downgrade to 1.10.oli then to 1.04? or to 1.06 then 1.04. what order?
I extracted the spl1.04 rom the orange rom i used...
thanks for your help again

first flash HardSPL-1.10, then flash 1.04. Never go to 1.06.

Safely Flashing a WM5 ROM

Hey people, Ive noticed a few problems with people upgrading to HardSPL and new radio etc... then not being able to flash a newer WM5 rom, since the RUU doesnt like the new SPL version.
So ive written a "Safe WM5 Flashing Guide" to help people on the way.
You will find it HERE. A bit of feedback would be great.
you should add a warning to this:
There are some old WM5 roms with old radios on them which have radio bootloader 0106, people who have flashed radios > 1.27 on their hermes got radio bootloader 0108. Those will get a "No GSM" error when flashing a 0106 radio, so if they want to downgrade to original rom they can't put the original radio on the device.

Radio rom upgrade?

Hello,
Just unlocked both sim and cid, and installed tnt 1933 touch flo rom, no problems on the install, expect for that my cell phone does not work.
I know I might have to update the radio rom, and anyone please explain the procedure and the file needed, read, but confused.
current:
G4
ipl 2.21.001
spl 2.21.olip
gsm 02.25.11
os 11.0.0.1
s.thakur
I just upgrade and notice the bug too. My phone works sometime, but I cant end the call! and some sms are not being rec'd.
TNT.1933 is known to have problems for some Radio ROMs.
Either choose other ROM or try other Radio ROMs until the problem goes away (There is no recommended radio version because it depends on your carrier)
For what I know, this is link to the newest Radio ROM available (2.71.11).
In the thread it's written it is g4 safe.
So I think you can flash it to your device plain and simple.
But I am not pretty sure if you need to use the RUU provided or the Mun's RUU from the Hard SPL thread...
EDIT:
I have flawlessy performed Radio upgrade to 2.71.11
I can now confirm it's g4 safe... just start the romupdateutility and follow the instructions...
No need to change RUU from the one included in rar archive for my G4 HardSPL.

[Q] Any Ideas?

Alright guys so I'm trying to install a custom rom but I' m stuck because I cannot even get hspl installed.
I have an AT&T Titan and am using a selfmade y- cable and to gold card. I flashed the OSPL 2.5 via goldcard and it worked with success, next I ran HSPL Wizard and it said that hspl installed correctly but when the device rebooted hspl wasn't installed.(Picture 1)
So I'd tried reflashing the stock Rom"IMG_Eternity_Cingular_US_1.10.502.04_Radio_16.23.02.26_A_16.27.00.23_Signed_ETERNITY_RELEASE" to redowngrade the Spl and it flashed with success!(Picture 2)
The problem now is that even after flashing the stock rom the spl is still "2.5" when it should be "1.10"(Picture 3)
So my question to you fine gentelmen is, "Does anyone know of a way to get my spl to change?"
Thank you all in Advance!
Also now when I try to gold card anything other than a signed Cingular rom my device shows loading... the card reader flashes a few times, and then it jumps staight back to the spl loader mode?(like pic 1 and 3)
I haven't done it yet, but I am when my cables get here, but I have read the ENTIRE thread of Gold Card and DFT's HSPL for 2nd Gen devices, so I'll take a stab at it first.
you said I flashed the OSPL 2.5 via goldcard and it worked with success,, the OSPL is the original SPL when you need to bring it back to stock for warranty reasons. But that doesn't explain as to why your pics say that you SPL is 2.05 either. From my reading, if your SPL is now 2.05, you can flash HSPL and custom ROMS.
I would flash the SPL again, using the SPL not OSPL.
I'm sure you did that initially and just typed it wrong or I'm misunderstanding you.
Yeah I actually meant just the spl that came with dft's hspl.
i'm in the process of rewiring my y-cable and trying to start fresh!
Will post the results!
Thanks for replying though man!
I managed to get back my spl to 1.10 from 2.6 (from the recent HTC update), by flashing the stock rom twice. This was coincidental, while I trying to get the internet sharing to work with my att titan 1 (there is a thread for this in this forum)- This how I did it: flash stock cingular rom, then forced cab update to 8107; booted phone then reset while booting up switched it again to spl mode to reflash stock cingular rom second time then forced update cab update again to 8107, following this i did a factory reset. After all this long drawn process I didn't get the internet sharing to work but for some reason it did downgrade spl from 2.6 to the original 1.10
BTW, my att titan is now unbranded, flashed with european stock rom using goldcard with spl 2.5
Same Issue here.. except I'm on the 2.5 that came with DFT's folder.. I can only flash the AT&T .nbh nothing else
I can't even get to 2.6 (HTC update). stuck on 2.5

I reflashed the stock rom, and tried cab update to 8107 but when I run cab sender tool it finishes "restarting your phone..Error: System.Exception: Firmware Device is null at wm7update.Program.UpdateDevice(IDeviceInfo deviceInfo, List' 1 updates, UpdateType type)
at wm7update.Program.Main(String[] args)"
Never used cab sender so I have no idea what this means.
Sorry mate, I can't help you with that error. I haven't had any problem with cab sender with stock cingular rom. Try to search the other forum re cab sender. I wonder if this is to do with the DFT 2.5 spl. Why not try to debrand your att titan using the goldcard method? this might be the long process if you can't get the cab update going.
Now I'm stuck on 7720 .. CabSender Doesn't work (null Firmware)... Can't Flash Europe 2.05 rom using GoldCard... I'm stuck with 2.5(DFT) SPL even when i try flashing the SPL 2.6 from HTC or the HSPL from DFT.... Whatever SPL they made or got it from..... It won't upgrade/downgrade.
This is Nice...

I believe it has something to do with language cabs being sent with update cabs.

I'm just throwing this out there...but it seems that ATT Titans seem to be getting half brick issues more compared to unbranded devices.
Did you guys stay at stock SPL 1.10 (never upgraded the bootloader from the HTC website) when you tried installing the HSPL through goldcard?
OR
Did you upgrade the bootloader (off the HTC website) to upgrade the SPL to 2.6 before trying the goldcard?
I have not tried anything yet with my phone, but I was curious because half of the Titans have SPL 2.6 already from HTC while all/most ATT users are stuck at 1.10. -Would this have anything to do with the problems we are having?

Flashing the stock rom twice reverted the spl back to 1.10 for someone else earlier today. its worth a shot.

I had SPL 1.10 ... Then I made a GoldCard with the 2.05 SPL within the DFT folder and flashed... The Bootloader then read 2.5.XXXXX ... So I assumed all went well and ran the HSPL Install program.. It continued successfully and claimed HSPL was installed.. I restarted the phone and the bootloader still read 2.5.XXXX

Even without the Language cab it fails... And the phone does not stay in the Zune Update Screen for long... If I restart the phone and manually enter the Zune Screen (Vol-) it restarts after 2~ seconds.
----
I tried flashing the Cingular 1.10 rom twice via GoldCard and RUU both flashed successively but kept the SPL at 2.5
habnzrot .. From what i assume did not attempt HSPL, merely updated to HTC 2.6 SPL then unbranded the titan by flashing Europe ... essentially going from 2.6 > 2.05 > 1.10
Whatever is going DFT SPL2.05 is preventing it from being rewritten up or down
Back on 8107 ... Run the Cabsender and while the phone is restarting for the first time.. Pull the Battery and then Power on the phone while holding (vol-)
The downgrade happened when I was on stock Cingular rom with spl 2.6 (upgraded through HTC recent bootloader update) as I said previously it was a pure coincidence whille I was trying to get my internet sharing to work. When I unbranded my titan though goldcard, I first upgraded it using the HTC update so I was back to spl 2.6 ATM I have not tried to flash the HSPL.
This is very interesting...on the DFT thread on the Windows forum, it seems very few people with ATT Titans have the HSPL and actually flashed a custom rom.
So Tachi, just for confirmation your phone actually had "HSPL" 2.5.xxxx after goldcard? or just SPL 2.5.xxxx??? I think the OP had just "SPL" 2.5.xxxx after trying to goldcard with HSPL.
It would be very interesting if this has to do with the original SPL number on the phone. When you upgrade to SPL 2.05 (which is basically the same/modified HTC's 2.5 SPL?) it's possible that it doesn't "successfully" upgrade when we have SPL 1.10 even if it does say "successful."
Now going back to your problem...and once again I am throwing this out there...
Have you tried reflashing the stock OS with with Advanced RUU?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637294
I am not entirely sure if what this does as it may be just another way to flash through RUU, but I remember Task 29 on WinMobile where it practically wiped the phone before you could install the a new/stock OS/SPL.

I had 1.10 then I used the GoldCard to flash DFT 2.05 SPL ... Thats when It showed 2.5 ... I attempted afterwards to flash HSPL but the SPL remained at 2.5 ..
I tried using the Advanced RUU but its the same.
task28 stops task29 which formats the Partition where the UserData is stored... It leaves the radio/SPL untouched. Now task00 stops task28 from taking place keeping UserData, but it fails when i try doing a task00/28 with the 2.05 SPL DFT provided.

That is BALLS!!! yea, thanks for the info on "Task" - I totally did not know that. Well I will continue to look into this issue. I might even try it myself once I get my Y cable here in the next few days. But anyway, hopefully more folks will chime in to help you over on the DFT thread.

No.. cabs work only on things that deal with the OS. Bootloader, Radio, SPL are too low level actions.
Have anybody fixed this cabsender error: "system.exception: firmware device is null"? I still can't upload language pack. What I'm doing wrong?
I've just unlock my Titan as described ht tp://ww w.youtube.com/watch?v=drTVTuj71TY
