Upgrading the Radio HELP - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Quote "Follow the next instructions EXACTLY"
after following the instructions fully "now i'm stuck" . im installing the radio OS is MINI XP HOME, by pressing autodect the activeSync box apairs, click yes.
Then the folloing boxes apair, ERROR "could'nt query the device" and Error "Unknown version! Should pick SSPL"
i have installed HardSPL Version 6 (1.40.Olipro)
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=27

That's funny -- i'm getting the same -- the only difference I noticed from mrvanx's screenshot was that mine says "IPL-1.00" on the 2nd line.
I sent him a PM.

1.) Do you have Windows Vista or XP?
There's a seperate guide for upgrading under Vista. Whats Mini XP Home?
2.) Do you have .Net 2.0 installed on your desktop? If not please make an upgrade.
Try the radio upgrade again, don't use autodedect and mark the boxes
.) SPL-1.11/1.13/1.30/1.35/1.40 New Bootloader
AND
.) is it a Hard SPL?
DO NOT MARK "Force Using SSPL"
I did it exactly this way some days ago without any problems.

My guide is only intended for genuine XP users, i cannot guarantee that this "copy" of windows is fully functional...sorry!

vista
In vista i get a Error Box "Unknown version! Should pick SSPL"

Once again:
Try the radio upgrade again, don't use autodedect and mark the boxes
.) SPL-1.11/1.13/1.30/1.35/1.40 New Bootloader
AND
.) is it a Hard SPL?
DO NOT MARK "Force Using SSPL"
As you are now using Vista have a look at mrvanx vista guide first.

If the box says, you should choose SSPL....do it ffs!!!
Im not sure if your doing this stuff correctly but like the post above this says you need to config vista first.

Ive got this error on XP SP2 and on Vista on two different computers and two different cables.
Just used the boxes above instead, no big deal.

Schooleydoo, did you try either of the above conflicting suggestions? I've got the same problem. Legitimate XP with .NET 2 and all current updates. SPL-1.40.Olipro loaded on JAs Jam no problems. Now NEITHER the radio upgrade, (1.40.30) nor the WM6 (Pro_Black_2.0) RUU's correctly detect the SPL version in the first step. Which boxes to manually check is in doubt and not helped by conflicting posts above. Did you persue this Schooleydoo? Did you take the risk and try one?

If you have SPL 1.40, select the third option (which has 1.40 mentioned) and tick "is it hard-spl?".
How is this confusing!?

MrVanx -- i think i know what the problem here is..
it's that "unsigned blah blah blah error"
ppl stare at the screen of the machine, not the device. right before it "fails" to find and auto detect, a warning shows up on the device asking permission to run.
i have custel's 1.3 and used htweakc to allow unsigned in security tab (WM5 ppl can find this in the wiki and just about everywhere else on this site). This should enable auto detect to work.

I'm having a similar issue. When I click autodetect it asks if my device is sync'd and I click yes. It then says it can't detect it. I've done everything the guide tells me to do up 'til this point and I can't figure it out. I might try to check the boxes like you said above.
Update: I have version SPL:2.10 on mine and I accidentally clicked the 3rd option with 1.41 on it and it worked fine. I'm upgraded and am running w/o problems. No on to the WM6 black install.

I have had this problem too. I continued through the errors and everything worked. I posted my problem here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303436&highlight=errors
Someone noted that most the devs are using the most recent .net framework. I only upgraded to 2.0, not sure if theres anything more recent than that.

People having autodetect problems, please check this thread for the latest RUU. It will autodetect past version 1.4. As Donnyuga noted, it is also fine to just click the third option, that works too. Updating and using autodetect is just a little more error proof.

Connection error when trying to update ROM

Ok, I've been trying to update my 8525 for hours...here is my problem. First, I tried to HardSPL-v7 but I kept getting an "Error [240] File open". I think this is preventing me from doing any ROM update. When I try to run the Cingular ROM update activesync shuts down and I get a connection error, I think it is "error [260]". I have wiped or cleaned out my 8525 so that I am back to day one. I have tried both ROM updates on 2 separate computers and I get same error messages on both computers. I have searched the Wiki's but have found nothing, so please help. As you can tell, I am a virgin to ROM updates so please go gently.
I should add, my present ver. ROM AKU 2.3 (1.34.502.7018.01H) SPL 1.06 IPL 1.01. Radio is 1.16.
have you taken a look at my Safe WM5 Upgrade Guide??
If you follow this guide EXACTLY, you should be fine.

I have, I have even tried the mtty "fix" but I had problems with that as well. I get a modem connection screen but there is nothing about a USB connection.
Bit more info would be nice, which ROM are downloading, and where from??
Also what procedure are you doing to update?? EXACT info please.

Ok, I just tried it 2 more times, Hard-SPL. It flashes to the 8525 and goes into bootloader and shows the following "HERM100 IPL-SSPL by Des HERM100 SPL-1.09.ds" at this point activesync 4.5 shuts down the 8525 is stuck in bootloader (it never reboots) and after a few minutes I get "Error [260] Upated Error". Hard SPL shuts down and the 8525 is stuck in bootloader mode. At this point I have been disconnecting the USB cable and doing a soft reset, once the phone is on, I go into bootloader and the old info shows up SPL 1.06 and IPL 1.01.
Let me have a think, firstly do you have the latest versions of the .net framework installed?
I was able to finally run HardSPLv7, I had to do it on another computer. Now, I would like to update to RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe. I assume I should use the same computer that I used to successfully run HardSPL. Do I need to rebuild the rom file with RUUWrapper.exe (CustomRUU by olipro) & Dutty's Good NBH Tool, before running the RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe update?

Off hand, the major difference would be Intel (worked) vs. AMD (failed) but I doubt that is the problem, you would be flooded with questions due to so many computers that have AMD chips. The USB cable was the same as well. I'll have to think about that...
Definatly check your "failed" computer is up to date with .net and everything else, most likely a software problem.
I have this problem as well..
AT&T 8525 windows moble 6 trying to install the hardspl v7.
v3.5 and 3.0 .net framework.
the RUUwrapper program gets to the 'verifiying info' screen then give me an erroe 240 message. 'the update utility can not open the requested file.'
any help would be great. Looking to add the touch it interface.
thanks,
Mike
Read the post Hard SPL at the top of this forum and go to page 116 ( I believe its post #1160) and use the sd card method. You don't need to use the pc at all. I generally flasah ALL os's using the sd card method as it seems to be safer then using the usb method. No "sync errors" to deal with.
Cheers...
I have the exact same problem..
When it goes to tri-color screen, the USB connection goes off and windows will pop up the search for driver dialogue box.. then afterward another dialogue box will appear saying Error [260].
I tried restarting my pc and device (even removing the battery) but still failure
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I loaded it thru the sd card just as the post above suggested. It loaded the hardspl just fine. My PPC seems to run faster as well.
Thanks for the help! it is much appreciated.

One thing that i have learned from flashing my 8525 is to remove any USB device except the 8525. This has worked for me.

But my mouse is on USB. I might try on different computer and post back the results.
UPDATE
I tried using my friend's laptop and it installed without a problem. I think the issue is with the .NET framework. I installed the latest one before flashing and it worked fine. Hmmm.. Im not sure about this tho.
Hello.... Try the sd card method. You don't need the computer...
Sorry if I sound condescending, but, I seem to find a lot of people saying that they have sync problems. Solution, Take the pc out of the equation (except to load files onto sd card). It is SOOO much safer then using the pc, no "sync" problems, no chance of usb being disconnected, reset button being hit or , worst case scenario, power failure...
You have to either have little or no battery power or MANUALLY hit the reset button with the stylus to stop the flash...
And thats my 2 cents....
Refer to post #13 to find out how to use sd card method to flash hard spl...
Cheers...
sd card method???
how?

Problems with upgrading the SPV M3100

I recently purchased a SPV M3100 after reading many great reviews on this device.
I have just unlocked it using the HTC Hermes SIM & CID unlocker v3a using my old Windows XP laptop and it works great (I've tried using my Vista ultimate 64 computer earlier it didn't work).
I am now interested in upgrading my SPV M3100 to latest software available from Orange or the WM6 roms available on this site like Black Dymond, really keen in seeing its potential.
I have read through the Hermes upgrading forums carefully and made sure all is done properly. I have even read through the Mr Vanx step guides in upgrading.
First I decided to use the Orange update from their website.
After making sure the USB cables are connected correctly and allowing the WMDC to sync I proceeded to run the update.
I followed each step and tick the boxes. The phone goes into the tricolour mode or bootloader screen with the following on the screen:
Herm100
IPL-1.01
Herm100
SPL-1.40
On the computer, the window 'verifying your device' is on for few minutes, after this a new window appears indicating: ERROR 260 - update error
This happens again and again, day after day, I have soft reset the device, rebooted the computer, tried both the XP and vista computers, check the usb cable and connections, did everything that is said in the forums, but nothing....
I have even attempted to use the HardSPL program and followed the process to load the black dymond, but same message appears.
Must note that after soft resetting the device the phone returns to its original state, so no harm done. but no upgrade....... Damm...
Help... Any ideas ...... Please....
Many thanks
Danny

Update your WMDC to the latest version.
Then try again
Thanks for your prompt reply...
I thought when I originally installed the WMDC was the latest version as I have downloaded it from the Microsoft windows mobile website....
I have downloaded the appropiate Vista 64 version for my vista machine and the appropiate xp version for my xp laptop...
Did you download the latest version...are you sure??
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
Same problem -> Error 260 if I try to upgade.
Hi
I hve the same issue. Tried on Windows XP and Vista.
Also downlaoded the latest WMDC.
Could that be something with the area code?
I'm in Norway.
For XP should you not be using ActiveSync 4.5?
I re-flahed my M3100. The first attempt it failed, it then recovered itself and the second attemp was successful.
Im sure I have, just downloaded the other day, anyway I have downloaded it again just now, installed it, connected my phone and allowed the sync process to complete. I run the orange update again and still the same message..... Error 260: update error
What SPL version do you have?
To check press and hold BOTH the side ok button and the power button, then insert the stylus into the hole in the bottom of the device.
I have SPL 1.40 Olipro
So i take it you havent read or searched on this error, the orange RUU cannot recognise your device because you have anewer SPL version (HardSPL)...ffs dude had you told us that fact it would have saved you PLENTY of time. You posted you had SPL version 1.40...................you SHOULD have said you have already updated to HArdSPL (1.40.olipro)
follow my Safe WM5 Flashing Guide to get it done.
Sorry if I have wasted your time. I thought that I included the my phone details (SPL and rom etc) on my original message.
I have searched for this error, but I gather I wasn't getting anywhere...
So I thought I would ask for some help and advice....
Anyway thanks for replying with your help. I will check your link straight away.
If I still have problems, I hope it would be ok to ask in this thread.
Thankx Mr Vanx for all your help.
It is now working. I've loaded the WM6 Black IV Shadow rom.
Do you know when there will be a 3G / video dialer for this rom.
Many thanks
Hi MRVANX, i also have the same SPL and my radio is not working. I tried to open the link that you have pasted but the link is broken. Can you please share the info here or on my email address "[email protected]"

Upgrading to WM6 ATT8525 Problems

So forgive me, as I'm mostly new. I have been searching for hour for a thread, not wanting to duplicate and I cannot find this issue.
Windows XP Pro Computer
Running WM5 on the BRAND NEW phone.
Just downloaded activesync 4.5
I bought an att8525 and want to upgrade it to wm6. I found the thread with the official rom's. I figured I'd do the official before I got tricky. My problem is this, when I run the program and the phone is connected, the phone kicks off into the tricolored screen (I believe is the bootloader?) I try to run the upgrade and before the upgrade begins one screen says be sure you have an activesync connection. Well, I can't get an activesync with the bootloader screen on. So I tried running the program with the phone in bootloader AND I tried getting the phone back to the OS before continuing the installation. Neither worked.
So both come back with an error trying to connect to the phone spitting back crap about be sure the phone is still connected".
In the bootloader?? screen it says 2 things.
herm100
ipl-1.03
herm100
spl-1.11
I have had no problems with this phone before... and I very much would like windows mobile 6, and I know it works, I've seen it, I just don't know whats going on. Please, any help would be appreciated.

hardspl install problem (noob here) [vista x64, no sync w/ bootloader]

This is my first post, though I've been pouring over the forums everyday for a few weeks to try to get up to speed. You may notice that my join date is quite recent, but I only recently signed up! I finally replaced the broken usb port last night and then flashed wm6 from htc onto my hermes. This morning I've been trying to install Hard-SPL-V7, which failed, then I successfully ran the SIM/CID unlocker, and finally tried to run HERM-SSPL which failed. What seems to be happening is that after syncing and running RUUWrapper.exe the device goes to the bootloader screen:
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
But doesn't do anything else, and then the PC reports a disconnect error. I think that the device is supposed to reboot after going to the bootloader, but it doesn't. I have noticed that shortly after going to the bootloader, it flashes a white screen with red text, and then returns. It's so fast I can't read the text. After the error prompt on the pc (vista), I soft-restart the device and it returns to the today screen where everything appears to be normal.
What am I doing wrong? I read the guide for installing the hard-spl. RUU_signed.nbh is in the same directory on the pac as RUUWrapper.exe. The device isn't bricked. I'm stumped.
I appreciate any and all help. I know it's painful to keep answering the same questions over and over again, so I promise that I've been searching for an answer in the wiki and on the forums.
Also, thank you for these utilities, roms, forums, etc. It's amazing that so much is being accomplished by apparently so few.
***UPDATE***
More information is always better...
After wmdc is connected I run RUUWrapper.exe
I check Force using SSPL and go through the prompts...
Code:
From:
Image Version : 3.62.502.3
To:
Hard-SPL-2.10
The device goes to the SSPL as opposed to the SPL, I think, and displays this:
Code:
HERM100
IPL-SSPL
HERM100
SPL-1.09.ds
Then the pc prompts 'Verifying ...'
The device stays one the bootloader screen, and then the pc prompts:
Code:
ERROR[260] UPDATE ERROR
When I soft reset the device, it comes up to the today screen, and going to the bootloader displays this:
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
OK, I think I know what's going on.
I thought that I had gone through installing the vista x64 drivers from the guide but I hadn't. It doesn't matter much though as vista x64 really doesn't like unsigned drivers. I've not been able to get past that. So the issue was that vista x64 can't sync with hermes in bootloader mode. OK, fine, I guess that I'll be working with XP. Why oh why did I decide to try vista x64...
Has anyone else found a solution to this?

Id stay clear of vista when trying to do flashing stuff....it REALLY just messes with all aspects of the process, regardless of if the WMDC is up to date.
Best thing to do is to get 32bit XP fired up and use that its just so much easier and everything else you use wont have to be patched/tweaked to behave on XP. LOL my vista config guide should really be a sly 'Uninstall vista, format and install XP SP2......guide'.
when you ran the SIM/CID unlocker, did you run it from your Storage card or did you use your usb to install? i think i had a similar issue. it would always give me the error 260. First, i sim/cid unlock my phone via storage card and it said unlocked and everything, but it still gave me the error 260. then i decided to just try to SIM/CID unlock via USB and when i did that, i didn't get the error 260 but instead it updated to Hardspl v7. hope that makes sense.

Thank you both for the responses. I ended up going home and flashing on my xp machine. Our new work machines are 64bit and I had several options for os, and silly me, I thought vista x64 sounded like a good idea. It's been a challenge.
Anywho, hardspl is installed! I also flashed the black 3.0 wm6 rom, though my keymapping is strange for the additional key functions. I'm off to research an answer on that. Thanks!
Would it be possible to install virutal PC on vista 64-bit and just run a virtual instance of 32-bit xp? I guess my real question is whether it is possible to flash the phone from a virtual pc.
-thanks.
hi,
Yes, it is possivel , i do it, i recomend you using VMware soft, because virtual pc doen't have USB support.

Where to get 2.40-olipro

I did and 2.40 olipro only gave me messages saying that I needed it, not that it was called TitanUnlock. Thanks for the link.
Did I miss somthing?
I downloaded the file and it still said version 1.20Olipro did I miss something?
I saw that it was 1.2 but it didn't register that it was the wrong version and that probably explains the problems I was having trying to load the new rom.
olipro 2.40 here you go
this is the link when ppcgeeks.com comes back up you can get it.
however attached is the file you want and need. BUTTTTTTTTTT
you will now need to find the "re-locker" so you can relock the old olipro and use the new.
Thanks for the file, but I guess if I need to find another program, will wait for either ppcgeeks to come back up or sprint to release the offical rom.
Does anyone have the program for "re-locker"?
Here's the file with the proper name. It's not the easiest to find especially with the other side being down. So without being rude I shall set you in the right direction. Plus if you search for "titan unlocker" as per the other file name you are liable to be loading the OLD unlocker not new since it is generically named such.
edit....
Sorry I guess my interrution while posting this caused me to duplicate someones post....
Thank you for the links. You are far from being rude, but show you understand that all the searching in the world won't help when you don't have the right information and that one of the main supports is missing.
Thank you all for your help! I ended up googling and searching and came upon this post from another board.
"I had the exact same problem.
Connect your phone (while in Windows, not from the bootloader) to your computer and make sure it creates an ActiveSync connection.
Download the file from here: ftp://ppcgeeks:[email protected] . Extract it and it should launch the Titanunlocker.bat. If it doesn't, just launch the batch file from the place you extracted the files. Follow the prompts, and when it's done, you should have 2.40 installed. I too couldn't get 1.20 off, but after I did this, I now have 2.40 bootloader."
----------------
Also if you are stuck with the bootloader screen (rainbow) you can just run titan_exitbl.exe in the file I've included it will allow you to boot. Also you must disable activesync from looking for usb connections if you have to go the titan_exitbl.exe route.
The file listed able will actually attempt to update to 2.40 once you run it, really automated.
Thanks to PDAPhoneHome's jrider for the post.
I was on 1.20, but I didn't have to relock or anything to upgrade to 2.40. I just went onto the bootloader screen, then ran the RUU exe for 2.40 in the TitanUnlocker zip.

Dude...this is the Titan forum, not Apache. Why you would try altering your bootloader with unlockers specifically meant for other devices (kaiser & titan) is beyond me.

This post shows that people are not worried about what they do to their phone. 911, you need to read the wiki for your phone (APACHE 6700) and do not use any software or roms for other devices (i.e. 6800, Kaiser, Titan, etc) unless you are 100% certain what you are doing. You are really close to hosing your phone.

x64 compatibility?
Am running XP x64 edition and the 2.4 Olipro wasn't working, saying it cannot run in a 64-bit OS.
Any suggestions/solutions? I don't have access to any 32-bit computers.
EDIT: Already resolved elsewhere:

it is because the sleep4 command is 16bit which is not allowed to to run on 64 bit os
just edit the cmd file in a text editor and replace sleep4 with pause
now it will pause when it runs which means you have to hit enter to continue which should be enough a delay
i just did this exact same thing tonight without issue
