8 gb microSD! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

Think this will work? I dunno. I think that if it was SDHC, it would have mentioned in the release. May want to wait on that 4gb microSD!!!

New Update!!
I guess that is really gonna happen ...

Note that the SanDisk 8GB is microSDHC (and the Samsung might be, as well). MicroSDHC requires hardware and/or firmware changes, so it may not work in the Hermes.

... But we know that the 4gb sdhc works with the new(er) builds, as mine works well. So...

First 4GB microSDHC from Kingmax

From Mobile-review.com:
"Kingmax has announced a storage card microSDHC capacious of 4 GB. This is a record for this standard, says the company. Until now microSDHC cards carried 2 GB maximum.
The cards comply with SD 2.0 specifications. They feature 127X or 19.1 Mbps (write) and 150X or 22.5 Mbps (read) speeds. No doubt, the cards will be in demand for multimedia mobile phones and other portable electronics, should the price be adequate. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t provided the info on the release date."
But do our Tytns support SDHC anyway?
No the Hermes does not support SDHC.. too bad, my 2gb is almost full!

whats that stand for then?

Has to be seen I think, don´t know of any standard (non-SDHC) 4GB microSD card, do you?
SDHC info from Sanddisk:
What is SDHC? SD High Capacity (SDHCTM) card is the new SD™ memory card based on the SDA2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association. This new SDA 2.00 specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities - 4GB-32GB*.Because SDHC works differently then standard SD cards, this new format is notbackwards compatible with legacy SD format host devices. More SDHC compatible devices are expected to be available in the second half of 2006. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on cards and host devices (cameras, camcorders, etc.)Compatibility with SDHC 4GB: 4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices. To ensure compatibility, look for the SDHC logo on the packaging. Please check with your device manufacturer for their current/future supported SDHC devices. What is Class Speed Rating? The SD Association has created and defined 3 speedclasses to help you identify speed and performance capabilities/minimum requirements of SD/SDHC cards and the host products. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify a minimum sustained write speed for SDHC cards (Class 2: 2 MB/s; Class 4: 4 MB/s; Class 6: 6 MB/s*). You can look for the Speed Class Logo to identify the performance class of your memory cards and host devices. NOTE: SDHC, the SDHC logo and SD are trademarks.*1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes; 1 gigabyte (GB) = 1 billion bytes.

In the Registry I saw keys concerning sdhc. So I would believe Hermes can handle it. I think it's worth a try
Don't you have to format anything larger than 2GB in NTFS format.
I think this device can only read FAT16. Might need a ROM upgrade

No, SDHC Cards are formated in FAT32, so it isn't so hard.
I just formated my 1GB microSD Card with FAT32 and I was able to read it on the Hermes. So this should be no problem.
Just go to your local dealer and tell him, that you will buy it if it works with your PDA. Normally this is no problem. I tried severall MemoryCards this way in former times.
I think it's worth a try...

If you have an SDHC card, you may try a solution from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293556
Please report the results!
Actually, I've looked through my registry, and found all the registry settins that are installed by this CAB already there. Also the driver file required (SDHC_SC2410.dll) is sitting in my \Windows directory.
So... SDHC should work on Hermes out of the box...

4GB microsd in WM6 Hermes??

Tried to search but could not find the answer here on the forum?
I have Cingular 8525 now with Black Dymond 3.5 WM6 rom.
Does 4gb micorsd card work with new WM6 Hermes or no? If yes then can somebody plesae give recommendations on good 4gb microsd cards for Hermes.
Thanks
GG
This has been discussed quite extensively in numerous threads such as this one. The bottom line is that although the Hermes may one day support a standard 4GB microsd card, it may not support SDHC until improvements are made to WM6.
Thanks
So for now the olny option is 2GB microsd at max.
i had the 4 gb microsd preordered hasn't come it yet it is not microsdhc. ill try it whenever it gets here.

It has already been tried, no go. However this is most likely to be addressed with updated sd drivers, there is no chip dedicated to reading the sd card which is another pointer towards a driver based sd reader.
I know several members are looking into grabbing the sdhc code from the trinity but this is based in XIP (execute in place) so might be difficile to realise.
Also it is known there are sdhc drivers around but not currently in ANY of the roms we have on the hermes.
SDHC count me in
Wonder what one has to do to get that firmware upgrade?
should work with transflash 4gb micro sd., note :TRANSFLASH
Read somewhere that 4gb microsd sdhc work with black shadow rom. Can somebody confirm it?
See this thread starting around post 220 or so. It appears that the latest versions of WM6 allow the use of SDHC. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308019&page=23

Thx m8 but still is not working, i thik is a hardware problem ... the wizard dose not suport SDHC.
As stated in many other threads, SDHC will never come to the Wizard, the hardware does not support it, and no matter how many times people ask, it will still not work.
/end rant
Actually SDHC is not a hardware issue but rather a driver issue to understand the new format of the SDHC cards.

Im a little bit confused with MINI-SD & MINI-SDHC.

Agreed SDHC doesn't work at all, but to say 4GB works "very well" is totally misleading. Look at all the posts from people reporting problems with 4GB cards. You're extremely lucky indeed if you can find a totally reliable 4GB non-SDHC card. Even people reporting success tend to post again a couple of months later reporting corruption or total breakdown of the card.
So there is no driver out there for SDHC?
I guess that means upgrading to WM6.....

WM6 won't help either. There's rumour of support in some roms but nobody actually running an SDHC card.
I was thinking that it might be possible to produce a hardware SDHC Transflash to SD Mini adapter. The problem lies in how the card is addressed, so if an SD Mini adapter could be made with a built-in SD to SDHC interface the problem would effectively go away. There might be some incentive for the industry to produce such an interface if the price of >4GB SDHC Transflash cards drops low enough.
I guess there might be overheads in access times and power consumption though. Any thoughts?
Oooo, a month passed, but no driver for wizard appeared.

I am not sure if this are micro are not. When i go to newegg, MicroSD and SDHC are different categories. Thanks for any help.
UllSang,
The links you posted are for Secure Digital (SD) card sizes. The Hermes uses microSD cards. These are much smaller physically.
Both SD and microSD have the high capacity version (SDHC and microSDHC).
MicroSDHC cards work on the Hermes only with the latest cooked versions of WM6.
The second one is a standard 8GB SD card, afaik there isnt an 8GB MicroSDHC just yet.
We know 4GB microSDHC definatly works (you need a recent version of WM6).
you do realize those are sd cards right?
oooppss. . .sorry.. didnt realize sombebody has made the correct point.
hey mrvanx sir. you might want to fix the link on your ROM: part of your signature.. (or is that just a teaser? )
Hmm. I had a feeling that it was not microSD. Good think i asked before i bought one. So can anyone point me in the direction of a 4GB microSDHC? Thanks a bunch.

SanDisk today announced that it is has begun sampling 6 and 8 gigabyte (GB) microSD High Capacity (microSDHC) flash memory cards to major phone manufacturers and mobile network operators (MNOs) for testing and evaluation. The new cards are ideal for the growing number of feature-rich multimedia handsets that bring together phones, music players, hand-held computers, digital cameras and more. An 8GB microSDHC card can store more than 2,000 digital songs, or more than 5,000 high-resolution pictures, or up to 5 hours of high-quality MPEG 4 video2.
Retail release of the cards and availability to phone manufacturers and network operators are planned for later in 2007.

Most likely if you have a fairly new WM6 ROM.
WM5 doesnt support SDHC at all, the most you can use is a 2GB card.
I have actually just ordered an 8GB SDHC micro SD card so I will let you guys know if it works.
Yes. all the way up to 32GB.
8GB SDHC works in my Jasjam, Kaiser & Jasjar
I downloaded the SDHC patch cab that is available in xda-developers & installed it on my 3 PDAs all of which have updated ROMS but it was the patch that made them work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310456&page=4
I also downloaded from Microsoft their SDHC patch for WinXP & now all my devices can read rhe 4, 6 & 8GB T-Flash cards I have.

PS Our CIO tried my 8GB T-Flash in his late model blackberry & it read the card too ! (no upgrade needed)

Yes, 8GB cards work fine if you are using one of the official WM6 ROMs. I'm using one and it works fine.
If you are using some other funky cooked ROM, all bets are off. (Best of luck with that though)

Probably not, the actual noticeable difference isnt worth the extra cost anyways, im very happy with the class 4 one ive got.
Cool, though I don't imagine I'll be trying to add a few GB's of stuff onto the card initially while it is in the phone. I've noticed that when transferring audiobooks, music, video, etc., in large chunks it takes about a third as long to throw it into my USB card reader than to do it through ActiveSync.
Know where any really good deals on the 8GB cards are? Right now Newegg only has the SanDisk and it is three times the price of a faster 4GB...
I have a Sandisk 8GB microSDHC card and it's working fine on Schap's roms.
The label says it's class 4, so I wasn't really expecting much but I am getting 8-10 MB/s writing speed when using a USB reader.

WM5 does not support SDHC which is what is needed for cards bigger than 2gb.
WM6 and WM6.1 do. Custom roms with these OS's are available here, but use at your own risk.
If you choose to flash a different rom please research first and do it properly as no one here will be responsible for your bricked phone but you. There are great tutorials available in the Hermes forums and the tools needed are here also.
