Hey guys. i just picked up a 2nd 8525 today. For experiment's sake, I wanted to try to dump the ROM from my original 8525 and flash it to my new 8525. So, to keep from confusion ill define the two.
#1 - My first 8525 with specs in my sig
#2 - Cingular 8525 with WM5 and HardSPLv7
As you can see, I flashed hardspl to #2, and thats all I have done. I dumped my black2.5 rom from #1, and reconstructed it to an OS.nb using awaiter, imgfs tools, and custel's 2.5 as the spare OS.
I was thinking about flashing the 1.01mfg bootloader so that I could flash my os.nb to #2. But that does not include the extrom, right? So, what should I do about this? Should I flash a coplete cooked wm6 rom, and then downgrade the BL and flash my os.nb from #1?
Why dont you just use nbhtool to create a nbh and flash it using latest RUUWrapper and Hard SPL V7
can't you dump the EXT_FLA Part00 using pdocread and then write it onto your new Hermes using pdocwrite?

I think im going to flash a cooked rom to the new device (one that includes the cingular ext rom). after that I can make the OS.nb a .nbh and flash the new OS with RUU_wrapper and hardspl. thanks for the ideas guys!

1. put the customruu and nbh(only OS) in the folder
2. Flash the rom using SSPL option
Coz i dont want to change the SPL version, and i think flashing only OS will not brick my device.

You can return to SPL 1.06 But i wouldnt recommend it, 1.06 is also known as 'the brick maker'. LOL
Seriously flash HardSPL v7 BEFORE you try ANYTHING else.

And to say another thing my company (imate) hasn't released any official ROM for my phone, i have checked the wiki there are roms similar from which i can extract the IPL and SPL and OS which i will need maybe in future.
And i have read that to change the IPL and SPL i need to make a .nbh containing only IPL and SPL and flash it using SSPL option of custom ruu, am I right on this.

Yes the procedure is:
Split the .nbh (from an imate ROM...or ANY with IPL and SPL that you want)
into the component .nb files using duttys NBH tool (v1.1 i think).
Then rebuild a new .nbh using ONLY the IPL and SPL bits.
Then flash it with customRUU and (yes correct) select the force SSPL option.

Is it possible to upgrade from officially released wm06 rom from dopod (when its released), will it work, or give me problems.
I am newbie to upgrades. so i dont know technical things like hardspl etc.

Yes it is possible, but your SPL will be overwriten..
If you want to keep HardSPL, you need to extract the official SPL from the official ROM so it doesn`t get flashed onto your device

INCORRECT sir.
HardSPL will not allow a retail SPL to flash over it.
The RUU which HTC will no doubt supply it with will probably not detect your device correctly (since you are using a superior SPL hehe).
Copy ther nbh file contained in the update to a folder and use RUUWrapper.exe which will flash it no problem (use autodetect).

The only benefit of SuperCID is you can read/write to the ext_rom in windows mobile.....so not really a great benefit.
HardSPL reports itself as SuperCID.....but your device is NOT. Essentially your device is virtually SuperCID.

When I have gone back from a WM6 ROM to the Official (WM5) AT&T ROM I flashed the older (1.04 I wanna say?) version of HardSPL and it works fine and gets overwritten to the 1.11. Then if I go back to WM6 I just reflash HardSPL v7 and it works fine. I'm not sure if that actually does make it official, but I know based on the startup and bootloader screens, after going to the old HardSPL then using the AT&T Updater, everything says 1.11 and looks the same as it did before I started putting cooked ROMs on my phone.

Just a quick question regarding your answer to Shamanix...
You said here that all he needs to do is copy the their nbh file in the update and use the RUUWrapper to flash it... Surely he needs to extract only the rom, ext rom, and radio? Then recompile to a nbh file to flash?
The original nbh file is still going to contain the spl & ipl which will cause problems not so?

The flash will go ahead as normal but the SPL and IPL will NOT be written over.
Either that or just use the repackaged version of the official WM6 dopod ROM ive posted in the WM6 section.

I just download the latest u1000 27.07.07 WM6 rom upgrade and extract all the files from the NBH and there are 9 different .nb
1. Windows.nb
2. primary splash.nb
3. secondary splash.nb
4. ATHENA_IPL.nb
5. G4IPL.nb
6. ExtendedRom
7. radio.nb
8. SIRFBootLoader
9. SPL
Normally flashing my hermes i would just extract the nbh and just re-build it with the windows.nb so i dont overide OLIPRO hardspl. If i flashed this upgrade will this overide OLIPRO hardspl as I think he mention the SPL he used wasnt bulletproof.
@ rom cookers i just used the romkoch tool to dump the nbh and rebuild it with all the .nbs i.e radio , extended rom, splash screens, windows .nb and it creates the RUU_signed which looks ok without no problems. i think if we can get dutty to be involved or look at his tool i think we can get it to optimised to work with athena as the Athena uses the same similar.nbh format as the hermes.

yep, I am curious about the other files myself. I dump the NBH using Dutty's NBH tool (1.1) and created a new NBH with the same tool with just the Extended ROM and the Windows.nb. It looks okay, however I have not flashed it yet.

AT THE MOMENT ITS TOO RISKY TO COMPILE AND FLASHED BUT YOU CANT USED A HERMES .NB AND FLASHED TO YOU ATENA AS YOU WILL END UP WITH AN EXPENSIVE BRICK.
you can use duttys good nbh tool to extract contents from .nbh and then compile the rom radio but its not advise even if your device is hardspl as yet. possible soon or at your own risk

Yes. It is possible and easy.
Get a copy of the SPL 1.11 and use it instead of the 1.06 or 1.04 mentioned in MrVanx's guides.
Now, assuming that the reason you wrote this is that you do not HAVE a copy of it, then I will tell you how to get it.
Download a full ROM from the wiki LOOK HERE that has many shipped ROMs (including some with SPL1.11 LIKE THIS ONE )
Use WinRAR (or equivalent) to unrar the EXE file of the ROM you just downloaded
You will get an .NBH file and an RUU file.
Use dutty's good nbh tool to decompile the .NBH file.
You will get many .NB files, including one called SPL.NB
Use dutty's good nbh tool to build an .NBH file from the SPL.NB file.
Now you have an SPL1.11 .NBH file that can be used in place of the 1.06 and 1.04 files referenced by MrVanx.
Maybe a request is in order
This seems to be a recurring post. Apparently many folks would like to go back to an older SPL version (likely for warranty reasons). How about somebody build an AT&T or better yet Cingular SPL that came shipped with the 8525s branded by Cingular. Mine ran WM5, but I haven't had any luck finding that ROM online. I suppose the warranty would be covered with WM6, but I would no doubt need the orignal SPL if I want anything covered. So I guess, all we would need is a Wrapper bundled with the .SP file that would restore the orignal SPL. We could load an original AT&T / Cingular ROM, followed by installing the SPL.
That might cut back on some of these posts asking how to...

Another option, assuming you have 2.10 olipro spl now- use mrvanx guide to downgrade to 1.10 oli, then reflash factory rom from htc america site, this will also flash the bootloader to the most current, spl 1.11 worked for me....

with the new CustomRUU, if you select the "Unsafe SSPL" you can flash any SPL you wish.

You need to apply HardSPL to your phone, or use SoftSPL in order to flash to a new ROM on a G4.

If you are sure that the ROM is your device's original ROM, then you can flash it directly, however you need to uninstall HardSPL first, or you will get a brick!
Flashing matching carrier ROM does not need HardSPL or SoftSPL.
I have successfully flash the IPL/SPL. I still can't get the Original Rom to flash back on. I get a read error #238 every time.

ERROR 238 (File Read): Make sure the ROM is not in use by any other program such as a hex editor.
Did you get back to matching IPL/SPL? Which did you get?
To get back to my Cingular ROM I used SoftSPL to flash just the IPL/SPL and then ran the RUU that came with the WM5 ROM update. There is a forum that has the IPL/SPL only nbf files for several phones. They may be on the FTP site.
