How to add a new network operator? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I bought a new HTC Softbank X01HT phone from China and bought it back to New Zealand. I have successfully changed all the settings to NZ network, except quite often it won't ring when someone calls me... I have got sms/txt working, internet access working, i can make calls, and sometimes i can receive calls...
If i take the battery out and restart it, I get a message which says "Your current operator 53001 is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor..."
The countries pre supported are Ausi, hong kong, INdo, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand..... but not New Zealand.
My ROM version s 1.23.707.4
Rom Date 07/21/06
Radio Version 1.16.00.00
Protocol Version 32.53.7018.01H
Model Herm200
Pocket PX
Vodafone have been no help as they say they don't support parallel imported items, nor were Imate, same reason, kind of expected that.
Any ideas? this phone is really cool, but if i can't receive calls or roam with it, its basically useless for me...

ROM upgrade?
upgrading your device's ROM (and radio ROM) will probably fix your problem.
you should COMPLETELY read the wiki here at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes and also Mr Vanx *excellent* upgrade guides at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/
read BOTH before you try to upgrade or risk bricking your device. however, a ROM upgrade will probably fix your device.
does not seem like your device is SIM-locked (or else it wouldn't work at all with your SIM), but you might want to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301952 nonetheless

Sounds like you've got one of the Dopod roms installed. There are a few things you can try before upgrading the rom and radio.
1. Ignore the message. Just install the operator settings for your carrier manually or with a pre-made cab file. Some of them are listed here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs , others you'll probably have to search for.
2. If installing your own settings still causes a conflict try deleting the other settings or use Bandswitch to disable them.
3. Try a hard reset and then, just before the customisations start, do a soft reset. The stuff Dopod put in their extended rom won't be installed but you'll also lose the 'operator not supported' message. You'll also have to manually input your carrier settings.
4. Upgrade to one of the wm6 roms but, as SkyyBoy says, be careful. Definately run Olipro's hardspl 2.10 (hardspl v7) and read Mrvanx's guide before beginning.
Oh yes, could you extract the 'you got message' sms notifies and post it here. I think it's kind of cool, but I'm too lazy to downgrade my rom just to get it.

I've just downgraded to the same ROM as you and I'm fine sending and receiving calls using my O2 and Vodafone sim cards (both from UK). I'm currently in UK but have also used this rom in China without problems.
The only difference between your and my setup is that I currently have radio 1.38.00.10. Yours is 1.16.00.00 which is (I think) the radio which comes with pof's CID/SIM unlocker - because the original shipped radio with this rom is 1.06.00.10. This suggests that the phone is super CID (a good start).
The radio is a bit old (which could be the problem) so I'd suggest upgrading it to at least 1.27.00.00 - but you'll have to read the threads and do some experimenting to find the best one for you. You can get the radios here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms.
Before you upgrade the radio use olipro's hardspl 2.10 (V7) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722. An error during radio upgrades is the quickest way to brick your phone and hardspl 2.10 will allow you an easy way to recover from this.

I am facing the same problem in order to add TIM Brasil, however I am not finding any cab file with the configurations
Someone could help me, please please?

Upgrading Extended ROM with ER2003edit

Hi there,
I know, there is also a special thread regarding this issue, but my question is more general:
I want to upgrade the (write protected) Ext ROM of my XDA. As I do not have an upgrade tool from o2, I've downloaded the latest upgrade from T-Mobile Germany and followed Softworkz's instructions and made my own Extended ROM.
But now I am not sure, if it will be possible to flash my XDAII with the MDAII flash utility (will be flashing the ExtRom with o2 Files only). Do I need the original o2-Sofware to flash or can I take any HTCHimalaya-Software to flash my device?
Thanks for comments...
Bobopopo
Hi Bobopopo!
As stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6289 it's quite easy. You'll find a step-by-step How-To (in GERMAN!) here:
http://www.smartphone4u.de/xda2/tipps_tricks/extended_rom.html
And it works like a breeze! The only thing is that I don't know, whether your O2 xdaII will accept the T-Mobile ROM - but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.
Only issue could be the Radio Stack Upgrade, but I have no problems at all with the T-Mobile Radio Stack in the O2 network.
Also I don't know of a way to backup your original ROM of the xda II - but maybe theres still the bootmanager way to back it up to an SD-Card!
Grüsse,
Klaas.
Finally flashed the ROM of my German XDAII with a German T-Mobile ROM (1.60). Has been no problem at all and I am impressed how easy it was (using ER2003edit). The only thing I have to work on is the homezone control, it is not working yet but not so important anyway.
I cooked my own ExtROM, but I think it will need some more improvement.
1. Is there any tool that further compresses the Extended ROM? (My ExtROM ist full but I would love to put some more programs inside)
2. My target is, that the XDAII will need about 5 minutes after a hard reset to install all the required software and get back the old settings. Will a backup with ActiveSync also remeber the favorits, connection settings, program settings aso.?
3. Is it possible to flash with the speed of USB 2.0? Until yet I have only tried with USB 1.1. (because I use a PCMCIA-card to provide USB 2.0 and the flashing manual says not to use an USB hub).
Thanks for some more tipps & tricks...
Bobopopo
@bobopopo and @admiral_k
Hey, I see your are also O2 customers in germany and also have the
homezone feature of O2.
When you did the upgrade, you also upgraded the radio stack...
I think the homezone feature is linked to radio-stack, so Homezone-Control will not work with t-mobile radio-stack.
I see two options... leaving out the radio-stack upgrade or forget the homezone-control.
Could you please write your impressions if it's worth upgrading the radio-stack. Actually if have the homezone-control disable most of the time so I would not really care, but it's nice to know that i can check if I am in my homezone... ( really interessing if you surf the web via local dial-in numbers... )
regards
Alex
Until now I did not see any improvements on the Firmware of the XDAII, but the T-Mobile ROM is working fine...
Regarding the Homezone control, I am pretty sure that this has nothing to do with the radio stack (Reason: After upgrading the whole firmware, the Homezone has been indicated (after a softreset) and disappeared after the next softreset.
So I think the Homezone control is dependent on the Ext. ROM (that I cooked myself by taking some of the new T-Mobile Ext. ROM and some of the old o2 Ext. ROM). Maybe I just didn't find the right mix.
I'll post a solution as soon as I find one...
Hi guys!
I am in a simular situation, I hava MDA II with T-Mobile OS and a German O2 subscription.
I would like to add the auto config for O2, could this be done, if yes how specifically can this be done.

Japanese ROM 1.23.731.2 from Docomo hTc Z (2006-10-23)

Japanese ROM from DoCoMo hTc Z has been uploaded to XDA-Developers FTP and added to the Hermes wiki, you can find it under the Available Original Shipped ROM Versions.
Notes on this ROM:
ROM Version: 1.23.731.2 06/24/06
Radio Version: 1.06.00.10
Bootloader: 1.04
Language: JPN (Japanese)
CID: DOCOM801
As you can see this is nothing new, but I guess it will be useful for people with this CID to be able to downgrade to bootloader 1.04.
Enjoy
Hi pof,
Thanks for that. I tried this to flash my X01HT after unlocking it with imei-check but with no luck. RUU went successufully till the last screen and I hit the upgrade but it returned an error saying something like this RUU cannot be used for the device. Bootloader is now 1.04 and the device should be SuperCID with imei-check. The only thing I can think of is that I upgraded the radio to your 1.2. Would that screw SuperCID? I appreciate your advice in advance.
Thanks,
harryk
harryk1372: If you are in 1.04 bootloader just run the upgrade utility again without disconnecting the device or start the upgrade in bootloader mode to bypass CID checking.
If it is really SuperCID then you shouldn't have seen this error.
Hi pof,
Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly.
I ran the upgrade in the bootloader mode. I thought that I don't have to run it twice if the device is already at the SuperCID state and didn't run the update twice. I'll try it again when the device is fully charged as the battery is now down to like 30%.
I'll post the result again when I am done. Thanks again for your prompt advice. You're the man and I really appreciate your efforts taking us thus far in cracking Hermes.
Regards,
harryk
Hi pof,
The device looks like it was not in the SuperCID state and RUU went fine with the second run with no error. However, the upgrade failed when it hit exactly 47% no matter how many times I tried it. Lucky that I did not brick my device but of course it seemed to lack some of the components and it did not even have the Connections setting to set up the Internet access. Also, AutoRun and cabs in the ExtRom didn't take any effect either although the cab files were there.
I decided to flash the TyTN ROM instead and that was successful. That is fine as I only use Japanese occasionally and I didn't really want the Japanese MUI so I will keep it as is. Perhaps I will tweak it a little to be able to use Japanese with loading the Chinese nls, Japanese font, Japanese IME and so forth just like I did with my Universal.
Thanks again.

Does anyone succeed in flushing Docomo ROM to X01HT?
After unlocking my X01HT,
the annoying message http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282073&p=1048193
appears again and again, even if I use SB_USIM.
Especially when I write SMS message, it will disturb me over and over.
I try to flush the Docomo ROM to my X01HT and hope to receive your help.

X01HT Unlocking Problem
I've got this X01HT a few days ago from S/B shop but when I tried unlocking it the result was no good using my cable. I read from other site that X01HT released from December 2006 cannot be unlocked. Please give me some clarifications on this and also, is FLASHING on lower rom version even in english version can resolve the problem...? Your response will so much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
At the moment it's not possible to unlock X01HT devices wich where bought after 12/1/2006 and have bootloader version 1.09 and RadioROM version 1.14.0.10! Please be patient.
To the experts, I need some advice. I intend to get a X01HT, already unlocked and flashed with the dopod 838 pro firmware. However, I intend to flash back the Japanese shipped rom :
RUU_HER_DoCoMo_1.23.731.2_1.06.00.10_JPN_SHIP.zip
What are the requirements esp where :
Bootloader (SPL)
Latest Radio Bootloader (HTC_BOOT)
Or since its unlocked, do I just go to the bootloader mode and flash direct? Any side effects if I do so, since its changing from an english rom of another clone (Dopod 838 pro, WM6)?
I am not even sure if the RUU_HER_DoCoMo_1.23.731.2_1.06.00.10_JPN_SHIP.zip rom is WM5/6. Please advice, thanks..

Recieving [Error 224]

Hello all,
I Eb'd an HTC wizard (cingular 8125) running Wizard Love/NBD WM 6.
On the load screen I get:
AKU 2.3;
IPL and SPL:2.25.0001;
radio:2.25.11;
rom: 6.0.0.0.
My carrier is Tmobile.
Question 1: If my phone has this newer ROM and it takes calls on the Tmobile network it has been CID unlocked and SIM unlocked...right?
I wanna update my rom and think that I am competent enough to do so but there is alot to learn and this is not my full time gig...right.
Question 2: So, if I am correct in Q1 I should be able to flash roms right?
However when I attempt to do so the RUU gives me [error 224]. Active sync and or WMDC says its connected. (I installed the AS drivers in WMDC)
Question 3: Where do I go from here?
Question 4: The wi-fi is currently not working will a new rom potentially clear this up?
Thanks in advance for the time and advice..
grazie
hmmmm,
Well, did you updated to NBD wm6 yourself ? and how did you updated ? which method you adopted ? SoftSPL or HardSPL ?
You say its SIM unlocked as it takes calls on the Tmobile network .Did you SIM unlocked with lokiwiz03a ?
yes ! a G4 can be SIM unlocked but it can not be CID unlocked, however,it can be upgraded to wm6 rom,but with method either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL'.With your present ipl/spl 2.25.0001 and you say its NBD wm6 running, then it must have been upgraded through 'SoftSPL' method,as it uses patched ipl/spl and Cid unlocks the phone temporarily, but it never permanently CID unlocks the phone. But with 'HardSPL' ,it changes the ipl/spl to a patched ipl 2.21.0001 and spl 2.21 olip.So everytime you want to upgrade, you'll have to upgrade using 'SoftSPL' method.
could you elaborate a little more about this.
Cheers!
Hey thanks for the correspondence zabardast_1, I have been getting frustrated and I have many times contemplated going for the brick or bust approach here.
So, I have done none of the updating on this rig. I rec'd it and I wanted it primarily for wifi however I can't get the wifi card/ (sdiowlan I believe) to even recognize an AP (... I posted in the networking forum but no response.) Thus my own reasoning leads me to believe I should start from scratch with a new rom unless you know of something else.
So, I am not the most savvy and thought that all of the info I had led to SIM and CID unlocked. I just read otherwise last night and in your reply. The info I have provided is accurate the IPL, SPL, radio, although I don't know which NBD release it is; just says 6.0.0.0 and release date: 2/2/07.
I am trying to get the new rom on the my device however and I would've probably already bricked it if I could get an RUU to communicate with my wiz. I always get [Error 224] when I run it and my phone is connected through active sync. I am running vista but have installed the AS drivers for WMDC. I also tried it at work the other day with XP same situ. I then tried flashing from the bootloader screen with an NBD, Wizard Love ( w/ Italian installer?), and T-mob (226102_22610105_022511). The only one that says it will update is the Tmob ROM, however I got cold feet at the update button and canceled.
Other funny stuff I have observed that may or may not be related to the problems I am having are:
Can't install cab files ie (enable rapi or Cert SPCS) and Wiz Sys Tools couldn't read my CID block and hard_SPL G4 gives me REXX error ( SPL_Version has no value).
So, any wizdom you or anybody can drop is much appreciated and needed at this point.
Whew...
Listen carefully. G4 Wizard cannot be CID-unlocked without paying money. (And yes, you are using a G4).
What you need now is to Flash your original stock carrier ROM (Or wizard love) to get your OS back. Then either use SoftSPL or install HardSPL and flash WM6 ROM.
Thanks Starkwong,
I will try installing wizard love tomorrow at work and if that don't work I will attempt a Cing ROM (will all of these work or do I need to mind my G3's and G4's for these???)
Grazie
So, It worked using Wizard Love at work and out of the bootloader window. Now I need to:
1.) Get wifi working.
2.) Get a newer ROM
I put a post up in the networking thread, I am a tool so far as these devices are concerned so be easy on me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372811
So do I get the wifi issue resolved before I reflash???
Thx again
I don't know what you mean by "wifi not working".
Maybe it is the wifi AP doesn't allow 11Mbps (802.11b) connections?
However, going to any of the WM6 ROMs should already set the registry to allow Wizard connects to G-Only APs. Just use HardSPL/SoftSPL and flash a WM6 and you will see.
OK so "wifi not working" may indeed be a general statement...
What I mean to say is that I am not able to connect to any wireless networks for internet not home (Linksys WRT 54G v5 with ddwrt firmware) or school (university wide) or my city's wifi network. It won't even detect them at least none that Ive seen since I've rec'd this phone. So, that is what I meant by the ambiguous statement.
So, being as your last post was a success I will try as you say and post the results tomorrow. Thanks again starkwong!!!
1 quick thing however, to be sure, I can now try the hard spl or soft spl method of tricking my phone to run an upgrade to WM6?
Still not able to get wifi APs????
OK although I have been successful at reinstalling the Mfg ROM and then Hard SPL'ing my wizard thanks to ya'll I still am unable to connect to a wireless network (see one even). I have the Olip on my SPL and I installed a TNT version of WM6 and I am still at work (drunk but still here). Anyway I can't see my wireless AP and I am beginning to think its a hardware issue if thats possible, i dunno the dynamics of this system maybe thats why it was for sale. In any event as usual I am willing to try what ever you guys throw at me as you're my only hope obi wan. Alright Im gonna go home for the night and try getting on to my home network.
Thanks again for all the help guys.
Is your device a original one from phone operator? I suspect your device is a China Dopod 838 with replaced casing, because the China version has the wifi hardware removed, so wifi can't be started even if an English ROM is used.
Looks to be authentic 8125
Starkwong, the Cingular logo and the 8125 model # are on the phone case where they have been when I've seen them before in pics. Therfore, I dunno I guess it looks like every other 8125 I've seen. Can I check the SN, IME or anything to be sure?
Thanks Again!!!
Starkwong,
I am getting all the options for wifi on my phone the LHS LED flashes green when I enable it and alternates blue green when BT is enabled. So, could it still be that its a dupod? I dunno but I am going home for the night... Thanks for your help. I will try connecting to my home network when I get there.

Help with a MDA Vario II

Hi everyone,my name's Larry and I just registered to the forums. Please forgive my newness but I am in a bit of a pickle here.
I have a MDA Vario II, aka Hermes 300, that I bought s/h off ebay. Works fine,no worries, but I upgraded to WM6 because i felt browsing was a little slow and the screen graphics werent as good as I expected. The upgrade was from the T-mobile site itself and all went fine. Only thing is I dont believe this phone can handle it(needs more RAM really) and after being online a while it gets really slow, like steerig a cow through treacle at times so I came to the conclusiong it was a bad move! Now I've noticed a link on here about downgrading to WM5 but is it that easy for one with no specialised tools or knowledge(tho i did build my own PC, or should I say ahem WE did)
Also a problem the phone has developed since the upgrade is it keep deleting my email settings, even tho on the 'desktop' screen it tells me i have so many unread emails in each account! So now i cant check emails from it either!
I do hope I can sort this out cos it is really frustrating having a PDA and not being able to browse properly!
Many thanks
Larry
Welcome to XDA-Developers larry. Well Firstly i would start with CID unlocking your device so that you can flash any rom you can do that by downloading hard spl from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
then once you have flashed that you can basically download and install any rom for the hermes. I have an mda vario ii and hate the t-mobile rom as it installs quite a bit of useless crap. I never use and it is also so damn ugly. if after installing a new rom you find you have internet connection problems and/or mms settings then download and run this http://rapidshare.com/files/92547562/UK_Setup.exe that will install the settings for internet and mms for all uk networks, the majority of the cooked roms on here though ,already have a network wizard to set it up for you, but better to be safe than sorry
P.S. I forgot to add if you are looking for speed and extra ram i would look for a vanilla(clean) rom, install that and then add the apps you want via cab files, you will find them scattered about all over this site

all your question answered here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I have looked thru the wiki and cannot find the advice I need.
My device has the following on it and what I would like to know is if I can actually drowngrade the device back to WM5.
The rom version is 3.60.110.4 (T-mobile UK)
The radio version is 1.50.00.00 so I assume that it is boot 0108.
The IPL is 1.04 and the SPL 2.03.
The protocol reads as follows 32.83.7020.20H
I have come across a guide that states if the radio is above 1.27.00.00 then downgrading may not be possible.
"(NOTE: If your radio version is currently HIGHER than 1.27.00.00 then it is very likely the radio bootloader is version 0108, this WILL NOT allow the radio to be downgraded to a radio containing BL 0106 and will result in a "NO GSM" error.)" -http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
The other question I would like to ask is this - it is possible to put another verion of WM6 on with this radio version?
Thanks for any advice!
Can anyone help me here!
Do I need to SIM unlock my PDA to update the ROM to a custom ROM, for example Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.30 which I recently downloaded from here.
At the moment it is locked to T-mobile. I have also updated the SPL to 2.10 olipro and the radio is at 1.50.00.00 and the HTC boot is 0108.
Thanks guys

I think you might not have gotten help 'cause it doesn't look like you've read what people pointed for you to read. Hopefully this'll help you get over the jargon hump and make progress. Having upgraded from the Offical T-Moble rom and swapped ROMs, it's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to do.
SIM unlock & CID unlock aren't the same.
If you've had you phone with T-Mobile for at least 3 month they will let Unlock you SIM (at least they do in the US). Contact them directly, you'll need an active account & phone number with them. This is free.
CID unlocking allows flashing ROMs onto your PDA. For some reason the folks at T-mobile, etc want you to have to look at their stuff every time you use a machine you bought through them. Using a cooked rom is like reinstalling XP without having AOL on your computer, makes life much better.
(flashing = installing to a PDA's Read Only Memory)
(ROM = OS + Radio + other stuff = basically everything thats on the PDA after a hard reset)
Flashing can be a dangerous thing, you don't want to 'brick' your PDA so you install an escape hatch. Hard SPL is that escape hatch.
(Brick = peice of baked clay = your PDA if a ROM install fails and you didn't install Hard SPL first)
The Hard SPL protects you if the ROM you installs fails 'cause power went out, ROM was bad, you bumped the cable, etc

Read & Follow the directions.
Select a ROM from here

I have the same model & just installed Custel V2.5, seems to work well so far (day 2).

Good Luck
Thanks gt, and we have read advice on here but a lot of seems to be conflicting plus we seem to be just going round and round. Yep, ben there, yep read that etc.
I know the diff. between SIM and CID unlock but all I want to know is is it necessary to SIM unlock the phone to update a ROM?
I wont be using another network but will be staying with T-mobile W n W.
I did it!
Well I did it. flashed the phone with Schaps WM6 4.30 WWE.
Have noticed it runs faster than the previous T-Mobile WM6 and has some really neat features-you can adjust a lot more settings on the phone than before, quite impresed! Thanks for everyones help!

Need help getting my phone to work on Hutchinson Three Australia

Hey,
I was given a Softbank X01HT from my brother and I've been using the information on this site to try and get the phone up and working on the Three network in Australia. This site has been really informative and I managed to do a lot of upgrades to my phone and everything works fine except that I get "no service" when I put my Three sim card into the phone. Could someone please help me work out what's wrong with my phone?
Here are the details of my phone:
Device: Softbank X01HT (Black one don't know how old)
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
ROM Version: CRCs r13.3
Radio Version: 1.47.30.19
I've done the following:
Upgrade to hard SPL (first thing I did)
Run the Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a (Though now I have doubts that I did it right)
Installed various rom (mostly for fun)
Installed Josh V15 Manila 2D rom
Installed the dopod AUS 3network WM6 (I thought it would have the right radio and settings)
Installed the CRC rom (I didn't like the dopod rom)
Any help would be appreciated. I've been searching but I couldn't find a good answer.
I'm not very familiar with that phone but you'll need to create a new data connection so that it can connect to 3.
When creating one, make sure you select the data connection type as GPRS, 3G etc, the access point is called 3services, no username or password is required. Should be good from then on.
These forums are awesome, with a bit more patience and perserverance I finally got my phone to work.
I did more searching on the X01HT and found that people were using the radio rom from pof's SIM & CID Unlocker. There was talk about cooking roms and stuff which I didn't want to try, so I decided to just run through the unlocker again. I made sure that I turned off my phone for 10 secs at the end and do a soft reset after the 10 secs, as I was a bit careless with that part last time.
After getting through all the steps, the phone recognised my sim and configured my phone for the three network. I can now connect to the net and make phone calls.
Now the details of my phone are:
HERM200
IPL-1.01
HERM200
SPL-1.40.Olipro
ROM version: CRC r13.3
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Thanks guys for running this site. I reckon i'll be on these forums a lot in the next few months. There's still a lot of tweaks I want to do to my phone.
Mate, bit of advice, install Hard SPL V7 so there are no "accidents" when flashing a new rom... Its a bit better at protecting your Hermes when you flash than 1.40. Thats an older version of Hard SPL.
Cheers...
