Pocketmac for WM5 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Has anybody had success configuring Pocketmac beta for WM5 (http://www.pocketmac.net/products/pmforwm5/index.html) with the Hermes.
The install went smoothly, the device locator finds my hermes ok but then no device is shown in pocketmac menu...

i'm having the exact same problem. WM6 on TyTn, running the latest tiger on a g4 powerbook.
it doesnt seem to be creating the PocketMac network port that the instructions says it need in order to sync. I guess I could write their support, but I'm so fed up with mailing back and forth with them that im just going to keep on searching the web.

Succesfully upgraded to Buzz' 1.50i96 WM2005

Hi all,
Since I'm an owner of the Orange SPV M1000 I have been following this forum with great interest, especially the upgrading to Buzz' WM2005.
I already succesfully upgraded the original WM2003 ROM (1.66 WWE and Radio 1.10) to the Diamonds 1.2 WM2003SE with Radio 1.18.
After carefull reading of all posts regarding the upgrade, I decided to take the risk, knowing that it should always be possible to go back to Diamonds 1.2 ROM.
I decided to use Buzz' 1.50i96 ROM together with the radio 1.17 ROM.
I didn't succeed in installing the ROM because of the Country ID error, although Diamonds 1.2 ROM and Buzz' 1.50i96 ROM both have operator ID 02 and language ID WWE.
I followed the steps described in 10 steps.txt and manually set operator ID to O2 for both the ROM and radio. I suspected the latter was causing this problem.
This didn't solve the problem. Then I found on XDA-Developers ftp the HimaUpgradeUt_noID. This time the Country ID error didn't occur and I could proceed with the installation. The installation went smoothly and after half an hour I was booting into WM2005.
Curious as I was I immediately tested all buttons and luckily all of them, including the camera and record buttons, are working.
I setup the phone and gprs settings and the phone/sms/gprs are all working fine.
Overall WM2005 looks very nice to the eye and feels more responsive in terms of speed. No crashes, hickups, lockups or reboots.
Then I decided to setup ActiveSync using the cradle, knowing that ActiveSync has problems of its own. Again I carefully read all posts regarding Activesync 4.
I deleted the old partnership, uninstalled ActiveSync 3.8, rebooted and installed ActiveSync 4. After connecting the PPC, ActiveSync saw the device, but was not able to connect. Then I remembered a post regarding the problem of ActiveSync while using VPN.
After disconnecting the VPN ActiveSync could connect and synchronize.
FYI, I have bootloader v1.06, but all buttons work.
I would like to thank Buzz for his great effort to make this upgrade possible for us.
If someone has questions about this upgrade, feel free contact me.
Take care,
Richard

So Hopelessly Lost!

Even after reading this forum all nite, I am still soooo confused, maybe too much new info in m'head. At any rate, I am trying to UG from WM5 to WM6 and am having a heck of a rough time. Everything goes good until it actually starts the process, at which time I get the 260 Connection Error. After plenty of research on here, I decided to try to "flash" the ROM, to no avail, for nothing happened. I can get into bootloader mode but then nothing else happens (perhaps I'm not waiting long enough? How long should I wait?) and I never see the screen pictured here - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing - so I just give up and reset. I am currently downloading the HardSPL utility so I can try flashing after the IPL and SPL ugrades. But I do have some questions still --
(1) Does my phone need to be "unlocked" to do this and how can I tell if it is or isn't?
(2) Can I just use the ROM that I downloaded from the HTC site or must I use one found somewhere on this forum?
Any other advice? All will be appreciated. Thanx.
Oh, yeah -- I'm working with a Cingular 8525 Hermes [HERM100 model number] Pocket PC. It's specs are:
ROM version 2.15.502.3
ROM date 04/09/07
Radio version 1.40.30.00
IPL 1.03
SPL 1.11
Have you read this http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners ?
Re:
Yes, I have, plus all the links branched from there. After about 3 hours of reading, I felt ready to try flashing, but it didn't work. The HardSPL utility is done downloading, so when I get home I'll try that and hope I finally get a successful upgrade. If not, I'll be back to the forums. Thanx!
What ROM are you upgrading to? The official AT&T ROM? I'd try that first if you're not already.

What operating system are you using? If its Vista you MUST use Mr. Vanx's guide to get past the connection problem. The standard Vista HTC driver is wrong when we want to flash rom's in bootloader mode and vista WMDC. Get it here:
MR VANX's VISTA GUIDE
Hard SPL is great after that. Just remember you warranty may be void if you have to go to AT&T for repairs and the see that bootloader. You shouldn't need Hard SPL to flash the standard AT&T rom or VP3G's or other AT&T based ROM's, but better safe than sorry.
Be sure to close EVERYTHING in the taskbar! Don't start any programs, allow any updates to mess around with the computer while its flashing..In fact, I disable my AV program and internet connection totally when I flash ROMS. (My Kaspersky started updating and virus scanning during my 1st flash..sucker froze and freaked me out!)
Once I dealt with unlocking and connection issues, I flashed the standard AT&T ROM, performed a hard reset immediately and then connected via WMDC and synced everything. I tested it for a few hours then decided to flash VP3G's excellent AT&T based ROM v3.62.3..I like to do a hard reset immediately after flashing to burn everything in...I've seen others in this forum do the same.
Another ROM I've found fun is S64's(Starbase64) 3.62 WWE v9 - It's not AT&T based but you can get WPBEAR's Config files to set your Medianet and proxy. There are other At&T settings CABs out there like Dr. Puttinghams. S64 ROM also includes Advanced Config 1.1 to set your keyboard to Cingular mapping.
Good Luck!

My desktop PC is running Windows XP...
After trying the HardSPL method - which upgraded perfectly - I continue to have the above-mentioned problems; 260 Connection Error and inability to move beyond the tri-color screen to the one pictured on the page which instructs how to flash via SD card.
Thanx for the list of ROMs I can try. For the record, I have been using the "official" one I downloaded from the HTC website. *sigh* I guess I'll next look for the tutorial I saw somewhere around here on how to upgrade from the tricolor screen [or something like that, I think it was], as well as your advice.
But I do have another question -- how do I format the SD card? The tutorial I used on flashing with it mentioned formatting so I'll retry it with the card newly formatted (I didn't because it said I could just delete everything off the card OR format it).
I'll let you know how it goes...
Ahhh...Sorry for your troubles...I didn't have luck catching an upgrade from the SD Card method on my 8525 either.
I know it seems a bit much but, is your active sync working correctly? Upgraded to 4.5 and all that? Can you sync and Backup all your data then try uninstal, reboot, re-installing AS?
I wonder what would happen if one tried Mr Vanx's instructions on a Win XP box?
I also had heard somewhere about messing around with when Active sync is started. Also as a last ditch, maybe try this from the HTC Wiki:

Good luck

Just another tip... Try a different usb port. I've found that sometimes certain usb ports behave differently during the upgrade procedures. So, far I've upgraded three 8525's on Win XP and only one gave me the problem you've described and connecting the sync cable in another port corrected the problem.

OMG! SHIHAYADREAMER! That was JUST the TICKET! I read it and realized that I'd been doing it right all along, I just didn't realize I was! THIS time, I hooked up my cable at the very beginning and let it go. Before, I'd started waiting to hook it up until the instructions asked if I had because I'd gotten to the tricolored screen (the bootloader?) the 1st time and figured I did something wrong. Thanx to that forum, I returned to what I did the very first time and got victory! *falls down sobbing and weeping with joy* I wasted 25 hours because of fear! OMG! *dances around, singing* I've got WM6! I've got WM6!
I know that being reminded to turn off my firewall and stop all the programs in the taskbar played a big role, as well. But I just give a big "Thanx" (on Thanksgiving! *LOL*) to everyone who answered this board because you all helped me so very very much.

Recieving [Error 224]

Hello all,
I Eb'd an HTC wizard (cingular 8125) running Wizard Love/NBD WM 6.
On the load screen I get:
AKU 2.3;
IPL and SPL:2.25.0001;
radio:2.25.11;
rom: 6.0.0.0.
My carrier is Tmobile.
Question 1: If my phone has this newer ROM and it takes calls on the Tmobile network it has been CID unlocked and SIM unlocked...right?
I wanna update my rom and think that I am competent enough to do so but there is alot to learn and this is not my full time gig...right.
Question 2: So, if I am correct in Q1 I should be able to flash roms right?
However when I attempt to do so the RUU gives me [error 224]. Active sync and or WMDC says its connected. (I installed the AS drivers in WMDC)
Question 3: Where do I go from here?
Question 4: The wi-fi is currently not working will a new rom potentially clear this up?
Thanks in advance for the time and advice..
grazie
hmmmm,
Well, did you updated to NBD wm6 yourself ? and how did you updated ? which method you adopted ? SoftSPL or HardSPL ?
You say its SIM unlocked as it takes calls on the Tmobile network .Did you SIM unlocked with lokiwiz03a ?
yes ! a G4 can be SIM unlocked but it can not be CID unlocked, however,it can be upgraded to wm6 rom,but with method either 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL'.With your present ipl/spl 2.25.0001 and you say its NBD wm6 running, then it must have been upgraded through 'SoftSPL' method,as it uses patched ipl/spl and Cid unlocks the phone temporarily, but it never permanently CID unlocks the phone. But with 'HardSPL' ,it changes the ipl/spl to a patched ipl 2.21.0001 and spl 2.21 olip.So everytime you want to upgrade, you'll have to upgrade using 'SoftSPL' method.
could you elaborate a little more about this.
Cheers!
Hey thanks for the correspondence zabardast_1, I have been getting frustrated and I have many times contemplated going for the brick or bust approach here.
So, I have done none of the updating on this rig. I rec'd it and I wanted it primarily for wifi however I can't get the wifi card/ (sdiowlan I believe) to even recognize an AP (... I posted in the networking forum but no response.) Thus my own reasoning leads me to believe I should start from scratch with a new rom unless you know of something else.
So, I am not the most savvy and thought that all of the info I had led to SIM and CID unlocked. I just read otherwise last night and in your reply. The info I have provided is accurate the IPL, SPL, radio, although I don't know which NBD release it is; just says 6.0.0.0 and release date: 2/2/07.
I am trying to get the new rom on the my device however and I would've probably already bricked it if I could get an RUU to communicate with my wiz. I always get [Error 224] when I run it and my phone is connected through active sync. I am running vista but have installed the AS drivers for WMDC. I also tried it at work the other day with XP same situ. I then tried flashing from the bootloader screen with an NBD, Wizard Love ( w/ Italian installer?), and T-mob (226102_22610105_022511). The only one that says it will update is the Tmob ROM, however I got cold feet at the update button and canceled.
Other funny stuff I have observed that may or may not be related to the problems I am having are:
Can't install cab files ie (enable rapi or Cert SPCS) and Wiz Sys Tools couldn't read my CID block and hard_SPL G4 gives me REXX error ( SPL_Version has no value).
So, any wizdom you or anybody can drop is much appreciated and needed at this point.
Whew...
Listen carefully. G4 Wizard cannot be CID-unlocked without paying money. (And yes, you are using a G4).
What you need now is to Flash your original stock carrier ROM (Or wizard love) to get your OS back. Then either use SoftSPL or install HardSPL and flash WM6 ROM.
Thanks Starkwong,
I will try installing wizard love tomorrow at work and if that don't work I will attempt a Cing ROM (will all of these work or do I need to mind my G3's and G4's for these???)
Grazie
So, It worked using Wizard Love at work and out of the bootloader window. Now I need to:
1.) Get wifi working.
2.) Get a newer ROM
I put a post up in the networking thread, I am a tool so far as these devices are concerned so be easy on me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372811
So do I get the wifi issue resolved before I reflash???
Thx again
I don't know what you mean by "wifi not working".
Maybe it is the wifi AP doesn't allow 11Mbps (802.11b) connections?
However, going to any of the WM6 ROMs should already set the registry to allow Wizard connects to G-Only APs. Just use HardSPL/SoftSPL and flash a WM6 and you will see.
OK so "wifi not working" may indeed be a general statement...
What I mean to say is that I am not able to connect to any wireless networks for internet not home (Linksys WRT 54G v5 with ddwrt firmware) or school (university wide) or my city's wifi network. It won't even detect them at least none that Ive seen since I've rec'd this phone. So, that is what I meant by the ambiguous statement.
So, being as your last post was a success I will try as you say and post the results tomorrow. Thanks again starkwong!!!
1 quick thing however, to be sure, I can now try the hard spl or soft spl method of tricking my phone to run an upgrade to WM6?
Still not able to get wifi APs????
OK although I have been successful at reinstalling the Mfg ROM and then Hard SPL'ing my wizard thanks to ya'll I still am unable to connect to a wireless network (see one even). I have the Olip on my SPL and I installed a TNT version of WM6 and I am still at work (drunk but still here). Anyway I can't see my wireless AP and I am beginning to think its a hardware issue if thats possible, i dunno the dynamics of this system maybe thats why it was for sale. In any event as usual I am willing to try what ever you guys throw at me as you're my only hope obi wan. Alright Im gonna go home for the night and try getting on to my home network.
Thanks again for all the help guys.
Is your device a original one from phone operator? I suspect your device is a China Dopod 838 with replaced casing, because the China version has the wifi hardware removed, so wifi can't be started even if an English ROM is used.
Looks to be authentic 8125
Starkwong, the Cingular logo and the 8125 model # are on the phone case where they have been when I've seen them before in pics. Therfore, I dunno I guess it looks like every other 8125 I've seen. Can I check the SN, IME or anything to be sure?
Thanks Again!!!
Starkwong,
I am getting all the options for wifi on my phone the LHS LED flashes green when I enable it and alternates blue green when BT is enabled. So, could it still be that its a dupod? I dunno but I am going home for the night... Thanks for your help. I will try connecting to my home network when I get there.

Failed after Hard-SPL

Hi All
Been dying to upgrade my Advantage 7501 and try out some of the new ROMS and the new radio on here. Went to the sticky and spent a day browsing the forums to see what I could pick up, even went to how not to brick your device thread. However I am still having issues
First thing I did was remove the SIM and SD cards, I had just reset the device yesterday so I did not reset again. I got a hold of the AthenaWrapper program and it worked as advertised. Getting into bootloader I have:
Athe100
IPL-v2.02
Athe100
SPL-v1.20.Olipro
However, this is where I run into issues. A soft reset does nothing but give me a black screen. I can get into the hard reset screen okay but when I cancel out I get back to the black screen.
Device also does not sync up with Activesync or WMDC?
Not sure what to try next or how to get back on track
Have tried on both Vista and XP.
Anyone have any suggestions
JP
Try to flash a ROM now, starting in bootloader mode. Hold the volume slider to down and then press into the reset hole.
Chooose one (SPL 1.2) from the sticky topic in the athena WM6 section
Progress
Thanks for the reply
Went back and remembered I had to flash the radio first. So I got the 1.57 update and that went as planned. One bullet dodged. Then I went ahead and grabbed some of the ROMs from the located you mentioned and that went thru as well. So it looks like I am back in business. Appreciate it.
PS I see references to SPL 1.2 and 3.5. I also read somewhere that the AP4 upgrader containts 3.5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2825883). Is this just a new version of the same thing?

Just an FYI. I got things to work but not after a few more moments.... I initially tried to update to MichyPrimas 6.1 ROM and it got to 93% complete before bombing with a comm error. That was bad! Went thru the recovery wizard but it basically toasted my model id. Nothing would work. Found a copy of mtty and that did the trick. Just so other know, you need a mac address to run in the mac1.exe program. Some people report having this on the inside of their battery cover. No luck here. I did find it at the router from a connection before I started flashing. A spot of luck there. All went well and I got my model ID back and was able to resume normallly. I flashed the Black Touch PK3 ROM with WM6 for now till I have a bit more time to go to 6.1.
Anyone else have issues with MichyPrima's 6.1 ROM like I did. Looks cool and I want to try it but not if it bombs out on me and I have to mtty my way back all the time.
Cheers

The same hits me.. break after 93%
No kind of rom can be installed, error from the romupdate utility from ´wrong unit id´ to ´can´t use this update tool , you need a newer one´ everything, but no rom will install. all hangs after 1% , stock-roms also.
i tried mtty, everything fine until task 32,level =0
then i want to upload the produced file (mac file generated through mac1.exe,spl1.x)
it starts uploading and ends with ´Fail to synchronize with the host (1)´
any ideas `?
ipl-v2.02
spl-v1.20.olipro
nothing works, only bootloader.
i can connect with mtty, but not upload files.

please people, READ!!!! someone above your post just told you to flash 1.2 rom, in BIG RED LETTERS.
the AP4 is what upgrades you to SPL 3.5, then you won't have a problem with 3.5 roms
(btw good thing this reminds me to release a separate 3.5 SPL upgrader)

please read my really detailed instructions a bit more carefully. I could bet you skipped the part about trying to copy all the files and mtty to C:\ or the step saying click OK for the small popup in mtty. or the warning that you need to type full filename includign the .bin file extension.
also i hope you use the version of mtty i posted

Beta has expired.... What to do?

I have a Cingular 8125 G4 (IPL 2.25.0001; SPL 2.25.0001) that was upgraded to a WM6.1 ROM a few months back. Apparently it was based on a "beta" ROM, and it recently expired, leaving it unable to function with the expired message referred elsewhere here. So I figured just to reflash to another ROM, but does not work. It stays at the old 99% and never finishes. Now it will go into the tri-color (RUU) bootloader mode, but will not boot. I assumed this isn't "CID-unlocked" then, so read through postings here. Lokiwiz and the other tools to get around this either require an active ActivSync connection to upload a CAB file or just say the ROM tool is too old. What do I do at this point? The phone does not appear to be "bricked", yet I cannot seem to load a new ROM and to "CID-unlock" it requires it to be in WM sync.

You need to flashed a shipped ROM, hardspl and the flash the custom rom
Shipped ROM?
Okay... after extensive searching, I got lucky and found and flashed a wizard_love ROM and have a stock WM5 image on the beast. I then ran a downloaded hard_spl-G4 that seemed to do the samething but did something with the SPL. Looks like now SPL 2.21.olip. So now find a WM6.1 ROM to flash? Can one be had without the TouchFLo junk? I just like the WM6.1 today screen. It works well on my T-Mobile SDA, but I need the more PDA aspects of the Wizard.
Try WM 6.5 by XDA2 or Cracing, there are nice CLEAN ones which work great and look great
Got everything working WM61 Wizard G4
Thanks for the pointers... I got it fixed two days ago. This site is a blessing. Will donate this weekend for sure! Xda-developers is a work of inspiration that I will have to trawl more often.
