Best Radio For Southern New England - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I'm looking for some feedback from members, close to my location.
Looking to improve performance and reception.
Can anyone living in Southern New England, tell me what Radio works best form you? (Boston to NYC Area)
Thanks!

Well, since I am from Boston, but I live in NC now and travel back quite frequently, I would say 1.43 had the best reception for me when I was there 2 weeks ago.

Madcap 180 Thanks! Will give it a try.
Was from the cape area, where there are only Sox's fans! That is not so in CT, I'm in the minority. (Need to becareful now) To many Yankee fans.
PS: Hope your still a Sox's fan....

Die hard Sox fan. CT is Yankee country, I usually don't venture anywhere west of narraganset bay in rhode ISland.. cuz it turns into yankee country real fast.

Let's Go Bo-Sox!!! Hahaha - looks like the forum is infested with Sox fans in Yankee Territory!!! 1.48 works great in the Stamford/Darien/Norwalk area of CT!

[Q] Who has tb and not in 4G area?

Curious how many ppl got the TB without 4G in your area and why? I have STRONG 4G so yea.
Jeez papi I didn't even get the poll up before you replied lol. Calm down
I do bc I know that when I travel it will pick up 4GLTE and this thing is faster then any phone I have had. Dx d2g fascinate incredible and droid are turtles compared to this

I don't and I bought mine mainly to be future proof. At least for the near future...
I am an hour west of Cleveland, OH which has 4G. By the end of this year Toledo, OH, which I am an hour east of will also have 4G. The Verizon rep, when I bought my phone, said that 4G should hopefully be here by the time Cedar Point opens to help with the excessive amount of strain that the tourist put on their exhisting 3G network. So, let hope that good 'ol Sandusky gets some 4G.
I don't have 4G. But I go to an area that does quite a bit. Hopefully we'll all be grandfathered in for unlimited data. And this phone is a beast!

I live in Indianapolis, we don't have 4G yet, but will by the end of the year (in preparation for next year's Super Bowl I assume).
I'm just outside Albany, NY and we are on the list for the 2011 4G rollout. As of now, I'm sitting on full 3G everywhere I go.
No 4G here but I was told we would be getting it around August, though not from a real great source. A friend of mine sent me a pic today of his showing that it was working, but only for a short time... must be testing or something. I'm in Sioux Falls, SD. At least I'm grandparented into my plan for when it does come. I love this phone, though, coming from the droid x.
I picked up the Thunderbolt mainly because its the most bad ass phone in my eyes. I'm in Reno NV, currently no 4G but there's rumors floating around that next year possibly. IMO though, my guess would be in 2013.
4g is probably a year from where I live in central california, but if your going to upgrade, mine as well get the latest and the greatest.

Ah cool, I live in Sioux Falls, SD too. I watch my phone like a hawk and haven't seen 4g lte pop on yet. God I hope they enable this soon! A verizon store moron did tell me 4g is coming for us in June but I would take that with a truckload of salt.
Supposed to get 4g in Grand Rapids by the end of the year
probably not gonna have 4g for another year at least
Closest 4G is in Rochester with no plans of bringing it to my area. However the phone is a beast. That, along with being grandfathered into the unlimited data was totally worth the purchase.
Even if the phone didn't have LTE I still would really enjoy it, and since it's not in my area, it's just a bonus that I'll hopefully soon be able to enjoy.
No 4G in Central Louisiana till possibly end of summer, but I bought the phone b/c of the speed and capabilities not b/c of the network, but that will be a nice bonus when it comes out.
I am in the middle of nowhere, and it could easily be 2014 before LTE hits. I was Jonesing for new hardware but couldn't stomach the idea of a Motorola dual-core. I saw that this was going to be MUCH faster than my old Eris (running CM7 ) and I saw that team AndIRC was gonna crack this thing like an egg. So I got this on a 1 year plan. Next spring I can hopefully get some serious hackable multi-core hardware. I figure the Bolt should also retain a lot of value to help finance it's replacement...
Bought and use in a 3g only area, but my home area has 4g so I get to use it once a month when I go home. I haven't been home yet to try 4g, but I will be able to next week.
Other than some odd behavior, I think this phone is better than my incredible.

My market was added to the recent list so hopefully summertime or a little later but I look forward to 4G, or I hope to anyways. If the distances the signal reaches I keep reading about I am optimistic it will hit my house. If not then 4G is more meh than yeh.
No 4g in my area, but I wasn't gonna get the x when this is available......plus I'm covered when 4g does come around.

I'm in south eastern virginia and the closest 4G is Baltimore MD about 4 hours drive. Verizon is kind of sucky on this one.

[Q] UK - Best network to take phone on

Hi all - just looking for some feedback from UK members. Im out of contract on o2 now and interested in what people think of 'other' networks and their performance (especially data). I live north of London, will be moving on from Sim free HTC desire from cpwh. Kinda fancy vodafone over going with o2 again, not sure why! maybe because all this o2 advertising saying I can get a 12 month contract, yes I can, but I pay for the handset, thanks for the 8 years, £45 a month spend eh!!
Given a choice, what would you do and why??
Thanks in advance

If your looking for high speed data go for 3. If your looking the best overall reception go for tmobile/orange they now share their networks. Then again I suspect you wont have many connection issues with 3 if you live in London.
just my 2 cents

im on orange the orange/tmob is a pain in the butt!!! i get constant drops in signal as the fone determines which is the better signal, drops from orange finds tmob( but only gives u 2g tmob!!!) the drops and goes back to orange) since all the crap ive been havin ive manually set my fone to stay on orange, too much hassle and tmob isnt good coverage where i live (north west)

Yeah, currently the T-mobile/Orange roaming is 2g only, hopefully though later this year they will bring out full 3g data roaming too, or even better join both networks under the same APN (which should prevent any problems with phones trying to jump between roaming and non-roaming).
Assuming il have my SGS for the next 18/24 months this prospect is one of the few things making me consider staying with T-Mobile.
cheers
Thanks guys, any one on vodafone to rate their data speeds?
I was in town this afternoon and dropped into the o2 shop, they had the advertising in the window, phone all powered up on display, went to the counter and asked if they had any in stock and after a few taps on the keyboard the assistant told me "no".....didnt offer any other info than "no"!! didnt offer up when they might have them, enquire to whether I wanted it sim free or new contract, just a "no" and went back to staring into the distance...one day I will meet a mobile phone salesperson who is actually bothered about their job and finding out what the person standing in front of them wants!
O2 PAYG £399 Network will be Giffgaff payg as it suits my needs .

Check out my recent thread, where I tested some of the UK networks for data transfer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054255
I just moved to Vodafone after being on o2 for the last 18 months. I have been with vodafone before, and round by me their coverage is the best by far.
As for data, your probs best going with 3 for their unlimted data plans, though I have heard their reception is pretty ropey. It all depends on whats best round where you live/work or spend most of your time.
I also heard that o2 throttle the data speeds, whereas Voda and 3 dont.

whats the dealio with 12mth contract? what did they offer you? ive just gone for 1200 mins 500mb with o2 for £42... (£5 off online deal)
im on orange and can get a cheaper deal for the same package £35 at p4u... but every1 i know who has bought thru them have bad stories so steering clear and orange near me has recently gone down the pan... would have gone to 3 as their signal and speeds are awesome from the payngo i tried... but was declined, yet o2 accepted straight away... hey ho

Don't mean to be "that" guy but let me start from the beginning...4g is not in every area. Progression is being made throughout the country as we speak. The 4g fee you mentioned is a smartphone fee that everyone pays. You are paying for premium data which is a mandatory add on. It is required to be a customer. It is not a 4g fee. And to top it off Verizon is not sprint. Same thing with t mobs and att...different carriers have better/worse coverage in different areas. So yes I'm sorry you have no 4g but I was, including millions of other customers, in the same boat as you. Sorry for being that "guy"

Troll alert!! I'm gonna be 'that OTHER guy and say, wow! It's hard for me to understand how the USA has such mediocre 4G coverage. My Canadian carrier (Rogers) has 90% of the population covered by 4G.
What really surprises me is that Rogers has accomplished this without charging any sort of premium. The ten dollar fee they're charging you seems ridiculous to me... Are they justifying this by saying it's going towards upgrading towers? Enlighten me! I'm paying the exact same price now that I was paying for my older 3G device.
The other thing is population density. Canada has a tenth of the population of our southern neighbors, spread out over a much larger land mass. This means that Canadian wireless networks have a fraction of the customer base, compared to American carriers (thus a fraction of revenue coming into their pockets to perform upgrades) Yet, as I stated earlier, they've managed to get almost the entire populated areas covered.
Where I live, I'm far from any major urban center. It's unfathomable to me that people living in the heart of New York are being left in the dust!
I'm not saying this to be an arse or to one-up you or anything like that. I'm truly sympathetic. I hope your carriers shape up and get you guys covered!
Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we will change the world

If I remember correctly it was started with the original Evo. Other smartphones (my Touch Pro 2, and the Intrepid and Centro we had on our plan) didn't pay the premium. Then there were rumblings of a class action lawsuit because Sprint was charging $10 a month for a service that only a fraction of their customers could get. So then Sprint changed it to all smartphones, but we were grandfathered in on our phones until we changed to Android.

It says they will be ready by 2014, but with no specific rollout dates for my area, Michigan, I will be switching to Verizon in the next few months, once they get a nest gen phone like the One X or something similar. Verizon has had working 4g for over a year in my area now. There's no way I'm waiting another 2 years to get it here, and have dial-up speed 3g in the meantime. I gave Sprint 12 years of my business, and I hate to leave, but in today's world data is everything, and I need that to be able to do my job.

I am in port Huron, mi. That is on the 2 round list. Our 3g is like non existent. Im lucky to get .47/down.
The sad parts:
- I live ON the water across river is Canada industrial district. I'm on there towers ALOT. Out here everyone roams there cause they push out more then us. Only affects sprint customers though.
- There is a working 4g WIIMAX tower about a mile down the road, that only pushes out to about 4 blocks.

Looks like Memphis starting June 2012!! If it is anywhere near the speed of Verizon's LTE at my house I'll be stoked. My brother in law had is new Moto Razor here last weekend so I fired up the speedtest and it was 25.8 down and 14.6 up. That is 3 times faster than comcast in this area.

I just don't get why they are rolling LTE in so many smaller cities. Goshen and Elkart Indiana are on the list, but not Portland, Ore. I guess they are finally adding Chicago.
It probably makes more sense to not overload the system with a glut of users from the most populated cities, but it would make sense that most users are in those cities so you should make them happy.
At this point I just hope they add Portland before next year.
thanks for sharing the link

Well you woulda have thought with all the major events that come to Indy and have in the past few years like Superbowl, Indy 500, Brickyard, Final Four, Sweet 16, Next gen comic con or whatever its called and a host of other things we woulda had functioning WImax years ago but we only got partially functioning before they made the switch to LTE. Its Sprint....that should be all thats needed to be said! lol I feel your pain though....I totally expected us to be late next year for LTE.
Feels like Denver isn't of any importance to sprint whatsoever :'(. Still waiting for some type of news and nothing.

Of course even in the cities where they already "have coverage", it's so sparse it does very few people any good.
I'm north of Dallas, and there's one zone I drive through maybe once a week where I can get 4g for a minute or two.
But if they put 1 LTE cell each in several more cities they can hype how many cities they've now gone live in.
They got till June 2013 to get 4G in my area or i'm out...I dont even see Orlando on that list of current cities that are under way but Palatka Florida is lol,WTFBBQSAUCE!..That honkey ass town dont even know what LTE is...
Sorry if i offended any honkeys but if you know Palatka FL then you know im right.
Places like the huge metropolises of Tupelo, MS and Kerrville, TX are listed yet still nothing for Denver, CO.

I was looking at this some what similar list and it wasn't there http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=2382
But cool none the less but Palatka is still a honkey ass town that should be on the very end of any LTE list
Lancaster, SC is the only SC sight I've seen yet. This is BS!

Yeah, there's a difference there, and I'm not sure why. Orlando should be one of the first getting worked on. It's already been announced before this.
