Having been happily using one of the popular WM6 roms for a while now, I'm trying to load on one of the official WM6 roms. The problem is, I can never get past the "Verifying the information on your Hermes...Please wait..." and then Update Error [260].
When I run the update, it reboots the device to the bootloader and has the following info:
HERM100
IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM100
SPL-1.09.ds
However, when I boot the phone into the bootload by holding down the ok and power button's while resetting, I get the following BL details:
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.06
I cannot get any other roms at all to work on the phone. I can't get the Hard SPL to load on the phone, I can't perform any sort of upgrade at all
Sincerely hoping I don't have to live with this rom for the rest of my life.
Ok, I think it might be a Vista issue. Just tried on a whim on a workmates Windows 2000 box, and it's flashing now.
Yes, Vista drivers do not work woth the custom flash RUU's. There is a way to make it work on Vista by replacing some of the drivers, but is kind of a pain.
Sounds like I'll just stick with using another box.
Really starting to regret jumping the gun on the Vista install. Ah well ,thems the breaks.

Yes, but as far as I am aware, the drivers in the WMDC are not compatible with the custom RUU's made to flash unnoficial roms.

I've got XP loaded in bootcamp / parallels on a Mac that I use for things like this and it's never given me a second of trouble.
I think that says far more about how poor Vista has been than pages and pages of ranting ever could.

Before you try and flash anything else onto the phone you really want to get HardSPL on there, so i'd concentrate on trying to get that installed.
Is the phone sim/cid unlocked? which rom did you manage to flash?
I have the Hard SPL, but didn't load that on the 2k box. I just loaded the latest WM6 dopod rom. All working well so far.
If I understand correctly, loading on the HardSPL will just change the bootloader process, and not the actual rom?

it will help safeguard you against bricking your device.
And no it wont overwrite the ROM you have on now.

So forgive me, as I'm mostly new. I have been searching for hour for a thread, not wanting to duplicate and I cannot find this issue.

Running WM5 on the BRAND NEW phone.
Just downloaded activesync 4.5
I bought an att8525 and want to upgrade it to wm6. I found the thread with the official rom's. I figured I'd do the official before I got tricky. My problem is this, when I run the program and the phone is connected, the phone kicks off into the tricolored screen (I believe is the bootloader?) I try to run the upgrade and before the upgrade begins one screen says be sure you have an activesync connection. Well, I can't get an activesync with the bootloader screen on. So I tried running the program with the phone in bootloader AND I tried getting the phone back to the OS before continuing the installation. Neither worked.
So both come back with an error trying to connect to the phone spitting back crap about be sure the phone is still connected".
In the bootloader?? screen it says 2 things.

ipl-1.03
herm100
spl-1.11
I have had no problems with this phone before... and I very much would like windows mobile 6, and I know it works, I've seen it, I just don't know whats going on. Please, any help would be appreciated.

I feel your pain and had the same problems.
Bag the conventional upgrade and use the memory card method. Refer to the instructions in the wiki. It works quite well.

Awesome. I tried some things to SuperCID, but nothing worked as well as pof's any bootloader version 3 supercid program. Amazing.
Then loaded up the ROM, works great, thanks all.

I have been trying to unlock my Cingular 8525 for many hours now without any luck.
I bought it off ebay knowing it was locked because I had seen these forums and knew it wasnt too harder job. I live in NZ we have a compatible 3G network here (they sell these phones branded as JasJams).
Anyway I dont have a cingular sim card, only a Vodafone NZ simcard. I dont know if that is a problem for me or not...
My problem is that I get part way through the update process and the connection between pc and phone gets cut everytime at the same place.
On my bootload screen during the setup it says

HERM100 SPL-1.09.ds
and then
HERM100 IPL-1.01
HERM100 SPL-1.40.Olipro
Then I tick the appropriate checkboxes, I HAVE to soft reset my phone here to get it to sync up with my PC again, I dont think this should be a problem though,
It then gives me the button to select the Update button (Update the radio and bootloader)
So I click that, it gives the next screen, click next, tells you its going to take 10 minutes etc, so click next,
It then instantly disconnects the active sync connection and about a minute later I get an error screen saying the unlocker encountered communications errors.
I have been through this whole proccess 6 times now with no joy
Someone pleeeeeeeeease help me

The only piece that is confusing is what to do once your done. The instructions say that you will be replacing your radio with a tweaked one to allow the unlock. After the entire process is done I assume you will need to have your favorite radio (1.40.3 in my case) handy to flash back onto your Hermes?
I also assume that flashing your favorite radio back to the Hermes won't lock it back again.
To be honest, I'd suggest going back to basics. You could try quite a few workarounds and end up doing this anyway..:
Reflash the original ROM your phone came with. Should be found easily via wiki.
Then you can start upgrading again.
If that's difficult, try flashing from your MicroSD card, which I've found never fails, having bricked my Hermes quite a few times now with my own cockamayme (sp) versions of ROMs that I've cobbled together from bits of code and chewing-gum.
as far as I know you dont need to CID unlock before flashing.... With olipro spl and custom RUU updater you can flash anything on your phone....
laurasaur, after you have installed 1.4 olipro, use custom RUU updater

She want's to SIM-Unlock, not to CID-Unlock.
Do you use Vista? I encountered a similar problem with Windows Vista. Try a PC with Windows XP for the unlocking process.

I've seen this issue with v1.4 Olipro. Upgrade bootloader to the latest Olipro 2.1 version then re-attempt.

im not running vista.
i can not upgrade to olipro 2.1 because the upgrade utility always gets error 260 (update error) the update utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone.
I have now tried on 3 computers, my own, my parents and my work all resulting in the same thing.
I think now I will try and flash a WM6 rom onto my phone just using the olipro 1.4 and the custom RUU updater and see how I go but I dont have much hope

um ok. now i have WM6 dopod version and fkn still sim locked someone help me before i throw my phone at the wall lol im going on holiday tomorrow and will have no phone for a week if i dont fix this in the next 3 hrs

Do *NOT* soft reset your phone here, it is normal that activesync disconnects while the pda is in bootloader mode (activesync only works while OS is running). Just click "next, next, next" in the RUU and it will go fine.

if you're short on time avoid any radio updates, they seem a bit hit and miss - its not worth upgrading then going away to find you've got a tossy signal!!!!

I'v been up for 24 hours. I have searched, read eveything, DL every tool, rom I could find and I am tired and upset. I have followed every post to the line.
I have a G4. I used the shelltool and flashed the TNT_5.0_Wizard_Professional to it. It booted once and worked great but has never booted since. It gets to the HTC screen. and shows the IPL 2.28.0001 and the SPL 2.28.0001 the GSM 02.25.11 and the OS 6.0.0.0
At this point I don't know what to do to unbrick my phone. I tried to go into bootloader and reflash the ROM but it always gives me a no communication error. Any advice or any one having this problem and had any luck fixing this would be super helpful.

You don't have a brick

Then kill active sync (wcescomm.exe in taskmanager).
Connect your device
Load the original rom and flash.
After that you can reflash almost any rom to your G4 with Soft SPL.
Its faster than shelltool
Or you can CID unlock it using hard SPL, and run the Ruu from the ROM itself.
Before using Soft SPL or Hard SPL read the threads first.

Two things:
1- 'No communication' can come from low voltage battery. Be sure to have it more than 60% before changing ROMs
2-The TNT 5.0 is a cooked ROM and is smaller than the Official ROMs.
TNT5.0 - 0x3800000
Official - 0x3900000
Which means that ShellTools can hang because of the size difference.
You don't have a brick

It's not a brick yet.
Have you tried Mestrini's tip, regarding fully charging the device?
You can also try to use another usb port and better yet, another computer, even if the initial flashing was from the computer you are using now.

i have been from that state already..
just use the wizard_love ROM..
yea, they are right.. you have to be in that 3 color screen..
then kill the active sync or uncheck usb connection in connections settings.
then flash the wizard love ROM..
after that, u cud flash any WM6 again..

What ROM are you trying to flash??
I've tried flashing a couple different roms, I tried the new dutty 6.1 and also dutty's dualtouch v4. If these are not compatable with the 8525 what roms are compatable that are also comparable to these? Thanks

OK, yes you are trying to flash ROMs which are not intended for your device. This is a VERY basic mistake sir however this is no cause for alarm bells .
The best thing you could do right now is to spend some time reading through the Hermes Mobile 6 forum to familiarise yourself with the ROMs available.
I will do that right now, thanks for the help. If I run into any more snags I know where to go.
A side note to all who read-
All contributors on xda should give themselves a pat on the back, people helping people to be nice is true humanity, people helping people for the sole purpose of profit is unfortunately life.
if you want a nice stable wm06 rom, go with tnt se. it has a few extra 3rd party apps but seemed to be VERY stable for me and I would recommend it to anyone.Depends on what you like though.
Are there any good stable WM6.1 roms for this? I have a WM6.1 for my tilt and like it, I would like to get my wifes up to that as well but it HAS to be stable, otherwise I will never hear the end of it. Thanks

Try reflashing the SHIPPED STOCK ROM - the rom it came with. This may fix your No GSM problem.
Please note though that once the radio rom gets stuffed it is a SERIOUS pain to get working with a very low success rate.

Try a hard reset, hold both soft keys in and reset with stylus. Hold all buttons in until it asks if you wish to reset to factory. Follow directions.
If you haven't already, install Hard SPL, quick search will find it. Then you have to find the ORIGINAL ROM YOUR HERMES CAME WITH... Good luck as this is probably the hardest part...
No guarantees it will work though...

i can not install any hard SPL because i have Level=FF so i can not downgrade to SPL 1.09 or 1.01 (i have now 2.03)

means that your device is CID locked. I've got the same issue
