Hi, Ive just installed TomTom 6.010 on WM6, but I can never get a GPS signal.
If I go to configure my GPS device in TOMTOM, which type of receiver do I select? The NMEA GPS? (I'm assuming this is COM5:9600, too)
Please help lol
Mines set up as:
Other NMEA GPS reciever
GPS Baud Rate 57600
Com 4
and Tomtom 6 works perfectly.
I had to use the tomtom 6 patch listed in an earlier post as my tomtom wouldn't work under Win Mobile 6, have you had to do the same.
It takes 5 to 10 minutes to find GPS signal some times (spesialy for the first time)
On some ROM versions it is immidiate. experiment...
My Com port is 0, but before i pair it with my HTC.
I use original Tom-Tom GPS

Excuse me, but I'm a bit confused...what exactly are you pairing with the HTC? The GPS?
Why are you using external BT GPS instead of the internal one? is it due to low satellite reception?...cause I do this as well, since I have sun shields on my car, and the BT GPS is placed on the shield on a clear location where the reception is much better.
The internal is mapped to Port 4, but actually it is on Port 5.
cheers thanks. works great now
i havent had to update tomtom at all yet, but im not using a particularly kosher version *ahem* (although i do have a tomtom 6 lisence, just not for the maps im using)
If you run QUICK GPS BEFORE opening tomtom it finds the satellites pretty fast (at least for me). If I do not run it tomtom takes a long time to locate the satellites.

you should be using the update 6.030 for TomTom 6 with devices with internal GPS

The main question i have:
How can i add an additional map manually? I have GB + major roads of WE. I have France maps. Just copying is not enough... so what else can i do?

You should only have to copy the map subdirectory (probably called France for this map) into the root of your SD card and Tomtom will be able to find it.
Location of TomTom 6.x patch for Windows Mobile 6?
A search of this forum does not seem to reveal the location of the latest TomTom Navigator 6.x patch that allows said software that I just purchased to run on my newly purchased x7501, which has the Windows Mobile 6 2.19 ROM code flashed.
What / where is the latest TomTom 6.x patch?
Is there a later, proven, "better" 2.x WM6 ROM available?
Alternately, what tools are used to develop the ROM flash code and application patches?
Thanks,
Tom

If you're looking for tools there is a section within the forum for this and you can also check multiple Wiki pages.
TomTom 6.x works well on my Athena running WM6. Never had to install a patch to get it to work.

To add to that, I normally do not do any settings. I just install after every flash and start the program and leave device near my window and go off to have a coffee. After several minutes it sees the sats, and maps etc. That is it. The rest is automatic the next time I start and goes faster.
Alway s have the maps and voices folders installed (copied) to card.

Its cause your copy of TT6 (6030) isn't correctly hacked to allow the use of the maps you have.. Try another mod/hack
No success
I am having no success installing TomTom Navigator HOME 6.010 on my x7501, which has the 2.19 WM6 ROM flash.
I have unsuccessfully tried twiddling the user interface settings that seem as if they may affect the outcome.
When executed on a laptop running Vista, without WM5torage, the installation program does not recognize the x7501 as a valid installation location. Attempting installation while running WM5torage 1.75 causes a WM5torage hang and the x7501 needs a reset to connect to a laptop running Vista, and results in a "<file name> not found" error message after WM5torage ceases functioning. One file might get copied, most often none get copied successfully.
Installing from various locations and combinations with the ppc cab file results in a "Installation of <cab file> failed" message, to the system, microdrive and/or the 4GB microSDHC card.
Though new to the xda and mobile device space, I am reasonably experienced otherwise. As painful as this might be for both of us, please tell me, step by step, how you successfully installed TomTom Navigator HOME 6.010 onto your x7501. Please do not assume anything, as I have likely missed something simple. I would need to know the versions of software used, e.g. ROM, WM5torage, Navigator.
According to the TomTom web site, Navigator 6 on WM6 is not supported.
Thank you,
Tom
Someone has another version here. You need legal maps to use

I had a similar problem installing the retail/downloaded copy of TomTom onto my device. I called TomTom support and they couldn't figure it out. I eventually figured out where the installation files were, extracted them and moved them over to my SD card. Then I installed them from there without any problem. I asked tech support to document the procedure I implemented to get this done in case they have other people with the same problem. Hope this helps. I'm slammed with work now or else I would look to see which files I used and post the info. I'm sure if you're familiar with installing CABs from the device you'll be able to tinker around a bit and find them. One thing I remember is that I had to extract the CAB on the CD or DVD before I was able to access the actual installation files. The first CAB is the archive and the CABs inside the archive are the installation files.
6.030 officially out-
Actually, Tomtom has officially released this update...
http://www.tomtom.com/support/product.php?ID=1401&Language=4&query=update&FID=6814
Basically, d/l the latest version of TT Home, insert your mem card or connect the device (mem card only 4 Vista), and click the D/L button on the above page.
Then follow the instructions. If it doesn't install, then you can manually pull the
cab file from:
(C:\Users\XXXX\Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads).
Then open with Winrar, and extract the ttn.cab file located in the 2577 folder.
Transfer to the card/device, run it, and you should be good to go.
Last note: Palm has an official update available on their site here:
http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/gps_nav.html
which appears to be the same exact file (same size).
Hope that helps...

hi, i have installed tomtom 5.0 but i cant pair my gps bluetooth(sysonchip). I worked with tomtom3.x and 4.x. When i launch tomtom and try to setup the gps, i only can bound with com2, 6, and 9. Any idea?
I have had the same problem with TomTom and Oncourse Navigator 4.2, I believe it is an incompatibility problem with WM2005. I tried using the built-in GPS manager in WM2005, but I do not think it is working in this version, or it will only work with newer GPS porgrams compatible with 2005.
Solved¡¡¡
The problem is TomTom list only the ports that appears in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active but when you create an outgoing port (with the BT applet), it isnt included in this list. I ve create a little C program (5 kb) that include the port com5 manually, so Tomtom can see it and you can Select it. I ve put a link to this program in windows\startup to be executed after each reset. Now it works ))
If someone need it i can post it....
YES! Post it here, please ...
Thanks in advance.
Hi, This is the way it worked for me.
1) Create a outgoing port (5) to connect with the gps
2) Place the patch in \windows\startup (to be executed each time you reboot).
3) Reset the device.
4) Run tomTom, select "other gps bluetooth". Then you should see "Port 5".
If you need a diferent port tell me and i will recompilate the program or i will post the source code.
tomtom 5 doesn't install, program crashes.. tried 2 install the cabs... only ttn.cab gives a failure on install, the other cabs installed corectly.
how did you install 5?

tnx , works great!!
Brilliant!
Strangely enough, the patch still keeps working if you run this patch once, then delete it.
Doesn't look like you need to put it in your windows\startup directory.
yep, when tomtom bounds to the gps in port 5 (or other) it retains the port number.
Anyway keep the patch in your sd card (or other safe place)because you may need it if tomtom "forgets" the port
If i install it from the CD, the setup is crashing
If i copy the .cab "ttn.CAB" (2.58 mb) and copy it to the device and open it he say's: "Unpacking was unsuccesful"
Someone?

Hi,
I'm trying to install TomTom5 on WM2005. When I start TomTom's setup.exe I choose language and after that "install the application" choice. It shows me list of software which will be installed on my device (TomTom, GPS, Today, Bleutooth Support, English - Jane (GB)). After clicking right arrow I get error message "TomTom Setup Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and setup won't go any further. Has anybody else had similar problems with installing?
You need to copy the cab files over to the PDA and run them from there.
then follow this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22706&highlight=
Followed your instructions and got TomTom installed. But now it's tomtom navigator.exe crashing. Doesn't TomTom have support for wm2005? Would be nice to know if there'll be patch to make installation with setup.exe work without crashing. Meanwhile my only chance seems to be to downgrade back to wm2003se.
Do you have the legal version of tomtom?
I used the illegal (couldn't wait for my update) and needed to install/run tomtom 4 on my pda before running tomtom 5; otherwise it would crash after selecting a map.
I had the problem with TomTom crashing, caused by the version of WM2005.. Now using Rom Version as 1.50g.00WWE, and all is ok
As for the version of tomtom yes im using the illegal version orderd the real thing on the 4th June.. and I'm still awaiting for it to drop through the postbox.. tomtom support page claims it still in the warehouse! although I now see i have been billed :x
The newest version of TomTom Navigator supports non touch screen devices.
I stumbled in this information by accident and thought it would be usefull over here.
I've tested it on a HTC StarTrek (qtek 8500 etc) with a WM 6.1 standard ROM and it works like a charm with the newest maps.
No more FakeCursor needed, you can scroll and use numeric keypad.
Version is: 7.915.9196.
Because of slightly warez related.....google is our best friend.
That's nice,
I can't even get it installed on my device. Always says installation unsuccesful.
I also have WM6.1 and same version of Tomtom.
Do you have any ideas?
If you have an older version installed on your device just unzip the new cab on your PC and rename following files:
TOMTOM~1.001 --> TomTom Navigator.exe
0000DATA.002 --> data.chk
Put the 2 renamed files in the same folder as your original installation (overwrite).
This should work.
If you don't have TT on your device, check if it's application unlocked, if not make sure it is and try again.
If nothing works, try to find a TTN 7 version that you don't have to install at all (it does excist) and use the two renamed files from above to upgrade if needed.
pm me if your out of options.
Hope it helps.

Gps bt-com ttn7 wm5
Ciao,
thank you very much for this information, i just tryed out TTN7 on my StrTrk with the original WM5 ROM.
It seems, that you need the "BLUE" Version of TomTom Navigator 7, because scrolling in the "Black" Version isn't possible and additonal, hitting the "enter" Button causes a doubleclick.
So TomTom is running and seems to be a lot faster than TTM5.2, especially entering cities now works fine.
Everythings fine so long, BUT TTN7 won't finde my BT-GPS-Mouse: Selecting the mous is similar to TTM'5.2 but I need to choose the Com-Port...but non of the four alternatives work: it should be "Serial over Com1" but TomTom won't connect. I have TTM5.2 still installed...and it works fine with the GPS Reciever...(of course its paired, and on etc...)
Does anyone has an idea or the same prob?
thx

So where did this come from? Would be nice to have more information than what you've currently posted, please elaborate..
In addition, most of the newer roms have the aGPS working, so the gps issue is a moot point.
Which GPS problem I wonder, I can think of 4, one being aGPS (which works great now after 5.08 AT&T)
There's also the issue of 'speed lag' and then the issue of 'position lag', and finally the issue of 3rd party gps programs not showing satellites/losing fix every xxx seconds/etc.
/me snags the goodies

Updated first post...
Anyone actually worked out what this does yet?
Ok, so this installs cleangpsdata.exe to \Windows (same ver that can be found on blackstone and other stock msm 72xx ROMS)
It copies a link into \windows\startup (same as the cleangpsdata package from blackstone does)
The functionality of the cleangpsdata program is simple, it opens the GPS0: hardware port and sends an IOCTL to wipe out the stored epheremis and other cached data in the chipset's NVRAM.
The problem this is intended to fix would seem to be extremely long startup times for gps (due to bad cached data that needs to be cleaned out)
With aGPS functioning it should have no effect; without aGPS it should only have an effect if your cached gps data gets corrupted for some reason and a quickgps re-download/re-inject won't fix it.
i'm wondering if it's works with WM6.5
So as a chef, would you recommend cooking in this fix and executing it in config operator or just cooking in clean gps and creating the startup link in app.dat??
Same effect either way (cleangpsdata as a package, i.e. from blackstone or this hotfix .exe)
I used to cook it in prior to aGPS being fixed.
Also, there's no relation to WM 6.5 with this hotfix, it talks to gpsdriver.dll, which is compiled independantly of the OS.
In addition, if you snag the latest HTC GPS Tool, there's a "Cold Start" menu option in it - sends the same IOCTL!
I do not use aGPS and am a bit scred to install this hotfix
I'm in Canada...I have no assistance server for AGPS...so would this help?

Re: Not having an assistance server for AGPS
There are several publicly accessible servers available, check out the agps thread, as long as you have a data plan you should have no problem getting agps working with a few registry tweaks

Check your \windows folder; you probably already have cleangpsdata cooked in.
are you guys (who are using this hotfix) having the data plan?
or do you have entire map saved on the storage card?
Not that I've bad reception but after all this time from htc to post an answer to gps issue I had to install it and tried it..
Did not tested yet, tomorrow will post if I see any difference! Maybe it will take longer, cause it cleans the gps data all the time i reset. Or am I wrong?
@zenithcoolest: I use maps always on storage card... Data Plan is expensive and it's impossible to use with frequency!

[Q] TomTom Navigator "You have an invalid version of the TomTom application"
Does anyone know WHICH build of TomTom is the "correct" one for the HTC HD2 (or HTC Leo as TomTom sees it)?
I have;
ApplicationVersion=7916
ApplicationBuildNumber=9189
and have tried many others, and whilst they work perfectly on the HD2, TomTom Home simply won't accept any of them as valid.
Hope someone can help!

This version does work good on my HD2...
For TT Home extract and replace file in attachement on your phone
OK...little confused...on my phone or in TT Home on PC? I already tried a new mobile.ddf file in my Home/Resources folder, but it didn't solve the problem.
Copy ddf file in PC folder "Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\Resources\Devices".
Enable Map share in TT in phone.
For me it does work without problems.
Unfortunately not for me. Mind you I think I have device code problems too - when i first installed TomTom Home it worked okay, but now even though I am using the same device I am getting a different serial number - but only very slightly different (it's exactly the same 32-character code, but the one that my account has registered has a "T" in front of it and lower case letters instead of uppercase).
TomTom of course has their stupid "one change in 6 months" rule, so I guess I just have to wait...
TomTom supposedly unlocked my account, but I still can't update it with the new device serial number.
Anyone got any other ideas on how to get aroudn this problem?
Thanks!
Do you have Tomtom installed to your device and not the SD card. I had the same problem untill I reinstalled the Tomtom app to the device, but left the zip folder, voices folder, art folder, and map folder on the SD card. Now Tomtom home works perfectly with my HD2.
Using Tomtom app 7.918 (9193) with latest 860.312 Western Europe map
*EDIT* Yes it WAS worth a try - R12SRW you are a genius...haven't tried to see if EVERYTHING works yet, but at least the stupid error message hasn't appeared.
*EDIT #2" Seems faultless now - MapShare and speed camera updates automatically found and downloaded...thanks again!
That's worth a try I guess...only problem is the memory on my HD2 is so damned tiny...
Will try it and let you know what happens.
Excellent Advice R12SRW!
I uninstalled TomTom Navigator from my phone as I had it installed to the SD memory card and and reinstalled it with the "Install to Device" option.
Now when I connect to TomTom home I have all the map share updates and other options and that "You have an invalid version of the TomTom application" error message is gone.
Thanks alot
R12SRW's Solution worked for me, I'm smiling again!!!!! Thanks.
Mapshare updates installed and load of previously greyed out options are now available.
Had to reset all options in Tomtom once reinstalled to internal memory but all voices, favourites etc remained available so well happy.
