I am using vista but flashing temp rom is not possible with vista.
I use windows xp with vmware to flash temp rom first, then I upgrade to any wm6 rom.
have you installed activesync 4.5 to windows xp?
as far as I know, it is the only thing you have to install for you prophet to be detected by XP.

Can you get any connection with activesync or mobile device center in vista going at all? Heve you ever synced it with a PC at all?

OK Vmware seems to have done the trick.
Upgrade worked on NVID
Then it seems the 4.0.0.6 touch upgrade worked also - 1 error onscreen of XDA - Cannot execute repllog.exe
Finished clean, but stuck on load screen.

somehow upgrade_rom.bat fails under my vmware, too.
so, after upgrading to nvid under vmware/xp, detach the usb from vmware and upgrade to wm6 under vista.
just make sure you have copied the files to C: and try to keep the directory length small (for example extract to c:\temp)

i've upgraded all my ROMs in Vista Ultimate using VMWare 6.0 with xp pro SP2, Just DONT TOUCH IT when it starts step2 and dont forget to format it after each step (reset with the 3 buttons pressed), BTW i use full screen mode when flushing in VMWare.

it's not an application, it's a technology.
it's simply sampling the touches or sweeps on the screen and giving you iphone-like features, like scrolling with your finger.
htc home is an application. 3dcube is an application.
just keep on reading the threads and you'll learn what they are and in which rom they are present or not.

I use vmware workstation 6.0 which provides usb 2.0 support. I guess vmware server or player 1.x versions provide only usb 1.1 support but that should be enough and they are free. I am not sure about vmware player 2.x.

I'm planning on upgrading the rom on my MDA Vario II (Dutch).
First I want to unlock the CID. I've got a 1.04 bootloader.
Recently I upgraded to MS Vista (RTM).
When I try to run the patched radio upgrade I always get a ERROR 150.
Yes.. I'm in bootloader mode. It's says IPL-1.01 and HERM300 SPL-1.04.
Could it be Vista??

This has been posted a million times, but here we go...upgrading ROMs will not work on Vista until manufactuers update their usb driver code on the installer; until then, use XP/2003. By the way, is that pirated Vista you have?

So, if you cannot do it, due to a bug in Vista, maybe the SD works
You have to be careful as if the program crashes during the upgrade of the rom you can brick your device, so I will stay with XP or SD card way to flash a rom.

I have Vista RTM and I confirm that the MDC is not stable enough for all these update work... it failed for me a few times and I'm lucky with my 8525 and it is still working OK after reflashing it with another PC (XP).
Aha. That explains that.
I've just managed to get my JasJar stuck in bootloader mode after trying many times to upgrade the ROM. This, despite the upgrade tools telling me there are errors.

I am testing vista since CTP (Community Technology Preview), then RC1 (Release Candidate), RC2, now RTM (Ready To Market) as Technet Plus Member.
I can't say is safe to use it even for day by day syncing, I have always unpredictable results; my TyTn sometimes is a Smartphone, sometimes Pocket PC, syncing? may be, every time you connect you have to guess...
This happens because Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC not included in Vista RTM) is still in BETA 3 stage, not even RC!
LESSON LEARNED
If you plan to install VISTA and you are a WM expert or just business user DON'T upgrade your XP, just install VISTA on a second HD and use your XP to solve the VISTA problems. Even Virtual PC 2007 (good to have with XP installed to have available some appz still not VISTA upgraded) couldn't use USB port, so no way to have a safe "old style" USB connection
Isn't VISTA fault, is a new tecnologies-early adopters problem
One of the most common source of problems with vista are USB drivers (no way in my knowledge to have a simple webcam working with VISTA)
This has great importance when you are doing something "uncommon" and "mission critical" like flashing something!

i did had same prob with HimaUpgradeUt not detecting pocket when i tryed to upgrade with beta version of activesynch 4.5 on the previous windows xp.... right now i use my syster's xp machine (during the idle time, of course ) to do this operations.. but its prety anoying!
is there any trick? or HimaUpgradeUt will be updated for vista compatibility?

i tried but still not working on vista...
guess must be a thing from some win vista api! now i'm back to WinXP because i use lots of other progs for mobile that not work properly under winVista...

Hello,
I tried to upgrade my SPV M1000 to WM5. I followed the procedure and ran the device in bootloader mode. I put the device on the cradle and it displayed USB and V1.06. Ok sounded good.
I started then the HimaUpgradeUt.exe program on the PC. The problem is HimaUpgradeUt.exe didn't find the mobile device at all. After maybe 1 minute looking to it displayed an error 101 message.
I tried different things : install ActiveSync 3.8, 4.2, 4.5 (no change)
I tried to connect the device with mty and it worked !
I tried to run HimaUpgradeUt.exe with the SPV running WM2003 and it found the device. I didn't try to upgrade in this mode anyway.
Any help is very welcome.

Yes I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. I installed activesync 4.2 again and disabled the firewall. I can see windows detecting the device when I put it on the cradle. But there is still the 101 error message when I try to run the update.
Vista and upgrade
Firstly thanks to marcjero for guiding me to this thread...
secondly... I had no probs at all, syncing my device with vista's WMDC(Windows mobile device center), apparently I tried to flash my device... and yes its an i-mate XDA II, currently running on C_ShekharAKU3.5.R40.P24_public_ROM and want to update to the latest one... apparently, connected my device to my system in bootloader mode... and well since then my system has a prob detecting my device... and I cannot even sync now... when i try to run HimaUpgrade, get the same 101 error code... :-(
any ideas how to get this thing working again?
PS: its seriously frustrating for me
use the "HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe " instead the "HimaUpgradeUt.exe"
download it HERE!

I did a success upgrade to WM6 on my Prophet with Windows Vista with Sync Center a couple of days ago.
Vista is supported for upgrade in the official rom .
The first time I did an upgrade to a PDAViet rom it was successful in vista. I tried on vista 32
On Vista x32 it's possible with some focus but on vista x64 forget. I'm use vista x64 and when I wont install new wm6 i am going on windows XP!
under vista 32bit it is possible, but not under vista 64bit. afaik some of the flash tools are 16bit applications and these don't work on a 64bit OS.
I have vista ultimate build 6000 32bit i tried the vista upgrade guide on this site but still my RUU crashes..................
something which can help but with without any warranty:
install vmware and set up a virtual windows xp machine on your vista system.
the newest vmware allows to intercept all new plugged-in usb devices to let them appear within the vmware.
with this i could connect my prophet to activesync within that VM.
but it always aborted the flash procedure at 80%

I cann't explain, but some ROM do and others don't. For instance a have a NVID RUU that works well, but the famous Step 1 files from PDAViet an Mobis don't work at all.
it never worked with me, am using Vista Ultimate 32 bit and there is something mentioned on www.mahmood1.com about having to change a driver and restart a service, but no luck at all....i also tried VMware and i could only use step1 but Step2 did not even start!!

In my experience, Step 2 is no problem under Vista, but I can't get step 1 done. Not even with the drivertrick. An other NVID Ruu worked though.
I have no experience or knowledge of VMware you mentioned... what (and where) is that?

not that I know off, would be a breakthrough. I figured out (just by trying) that the RUU is not the problem itself, its the nb file that isn't always compatible. If I find more solid an workable information/solution ofcourse I let it know.

It simply doesn't work with all RUU's, PDAVIET temp is one of those. You can use another NVID RUU instead.

You mean use other NVID RUU programs, but still keep the nb and other files in PDAVIET temp step1? Where can I find all other RUUs? Thanks a lot.

they replace the drivers from "pocket pc usb sync" with older ones for windows xp. afaik a ppc in booloader-mode is recognized by the pc as "pocket pc usb sync".
but this does not work with vista x64, because most (or all?) custom roms use some 16bit applications - these are not compatible under a x64 OS

Tried varius way to make it work under Vista.
Did also follow the guide. Downloaded the correct driver etc.
Conclution.
Could not get it to work under Vista32bit DK.
Tried to install VMWARE also here I failed becuse I use BlueTooth keyboard and mouse.
Still have to go to one of the older computers in house with XP.
Maybe one day were lucky and someone will cpme up with a propper solution.

Still it doesn't work for all RUU's, but the complete ones do. I have experimented a bit on this issue. It isn't so much a problem with the RUU "engine" but the way the nk.nbf is built. I didn't manage to extract it and compare.
by the way, you need to change the drivers with the "old" ActiveSync 4.5 ones in all cases. Without these it doesn't work with any RUU. But the rest of the procedure doesn't make the difference (in my experience). So, just change drivers and use one of the NVID RUU's you can find with "search" or google.

Yep, ofcourse you can still flash under XP, using VM or Dual Boot. But the question was have to achieve a succesfull upgrade using Vista.
But I agree that it is far more practical to focus on the methods that do work, instead on the ones that don't!
