Just got an x56, can someone help? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I just got an Siemens x56 off e-bay, it's unlocked and has wm2002. I'm looking to upgrade so that i can run the iphone skin/theme. Any suggestions as to what ROM i should upgrade to? I downloaded the bootloader but i'm not sure what Rom. It's AT&T branded but i'm using a cellphone company that not many people have heard of it's called UNICEL (they were just purchased by verizon).
ANY HELP ANYONE CAN GIVE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
THANKS A BUNCH
~nick

dont know anything about iphone skins as i find them as cool as fake tits
but 2003SE from here is pretty new guess thats a good bet
http://www.romkitchen.de/

Do you know the difference between wm2003SE and 2003 Final?

WM2003 final is just WM 2003 and WM2003SE is the SE-Version including the possibility to rotate the screen. For production use I suggest the WM2003 Final Version
Stefan

Ok, so i got the phone in the mail. It has
rom version 3.17.03 ENG
radio version A.20.10
Protocol version: 324e4
Model No.: PW10A1
IMEI:350314010360924
I put my sim card in and get no signal. Also, i found out i can't use active sync because i've got windows vista. however, windows vistas "windows mobile device center" only supports mobile version 2003 and up. I belive mine has one of the xda-developers versions of windows mobile.
I have an SD card reader so i can copy files directly to the card but i'm unsure how to boot the x56 to the card so i can install wm2003. My cell phone provider is a smaller company called "Unicel" they were just purchased by Verizon.
SOrry i'm such a newb. I really appreciate any help

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby_HT_FlashSD
have to use xdatools to get the rom to the sd in the right format

xdatools tells me i have to have Activesync running. Activesync doesn't run on vista.

i guess it have to be don from a xp box then
surely you can get access to one or dual boot beside the vista

ok, i was able to use a friends laptop and get wm2003 final installed (thanks to lumpistefan's rom kitchen) I had a program that was on the x56 when i got it that was a GSM freq selector. needless to say that program is now gone and i can't get my phone to work. Does anyone know where i can download this program or if there's an other way i can change the frequency?
Thanks for all the help so far guys.

ok, so i read in the wiki about how to change the band by doing a soft reset to the bootloader. However upon further research i've found that my lame cell company runs on GSM 890. Does anyone know how i can get my phone to 890?

XDA GSM error after upgrading to WM2003

Hi all,
i've got a slight problem with my XDA. After updating to WM 2003 (4.00.16) my GSM (3.23) seens to be broken...
It woked for a while and then out of nowhere. My XDA now wont boot. Th good news is that i can go into the bootloader.
What can i do now? Where can i get a good WM2002 image to put onto my SD Card? I'd appreciate any help!!!
Dear Fabi,
I know it might not be the suitable question, but could you plz tell the exact steps you did that led you to this situation. This is to allow you to get precise help, and to be a learned lesson for the rest of us, coz I was about to upgrade from 3.25 to 4.00.16 but prefered to ask first.
Don't worry, the guys here are way clever and I 'm sure you will get the help very soon ... TKR
Nooo problem. I was about to Sync my XDA via USB Cradle and noticed that my backlight was turned off. Also my Phone was searching for a Network (now I know why... ). So I thought it might be good to reset that thing..... *aghhhrrrr* That was a big mistake. After the reset I saw the boot screen and the backlight blinking twice. That was all. My Bootloader (5.15) says "GSM Error"... now I'm without Mobile Phone for a while :?
so in other words, 4.00.16 was OK but you screwed up the XDA by just doing a reset while the backlight was off ?? ... I 'm afraid I don't get it :?

Confirming you used the SD card method to upgrade, right!
Also what radio band is or was your XDA set to before the upgrade?
HTH
No I didn't use SD Card to update my XDA. I used The ROM-Kitchen to generate a exe and updated over USB cradle.
Im running my MDA (i don't have a XDA ) on a german GSM 1800. Eplus. It was always set to this option and I never even tried to change it.
@biso007:
I screwed my MDA because I did a reset. Thats right. But I had some backlight issues in the past few days after upgrading. The backlight sometimes turned off and there was no chance to get it back on... only a reset. I first thought the proplem occured again yesterday but then i saw that my MDA was looking for network. After resetting the GSM part was dead....!
So back to my problem. I now ordered a SD Card Reader/writer. Is it possible to resore my system via XDArit and a backup? Can someone provide me a working 2002 backup from boot, OS and GSM part? Or can I do this by myself. I really appreciate your help!! Thanks a lot.
Ok I see!
Do this then press the green phone button, tools, Options, Band
and post whats listed.
and yes its possible to restore your system via XDArit and a backup.
As far a the 2002 PPCPE ROM goes you should be able to download it from T-Mobile, so visit their web site and search their MDA upgrade/download section.

My MDA does not boot anymore! I can't get into windows and i can't sync anymore! I have the Radiostack and the 2002 image fram the T-Mobile Website but the image ist a NK.nbf. AFAIK XDArit needs *.nb1 Files? I also noticed that it seems not possible to write the GSM Part to the phone via XDArit.
Hiya Folks
I wonder if you could helpme with a bit of a problem, i have recently attempted to upgrade my XDA using the reccommended downloads from O2, this upgraded my ROM and the GSM part of the XDA. however when trying to get into my XDA it freezes, i can get into the bootloader but get a GSM error, am i able to flash the GSM, if so where can i get the flash and how would i carry this out. i have got into the GSM part of the bootloader and the GSM will not turn on. i have tried copying the GSM from a friends XDA only to find the message "please connect to RS232 and run PC monitor now"
Hope you can help
Cheers guys, you are truly more useful than the folks who we obviously look up to at O2!!!! Mind you this does not say much!!
Thanks again

XDAUnlock Tool - Getting beyond a joke!

I've been trying for several months now to unlock my XDA1 Wallaby without success. I've loaded the Special Edition ROM 1.2 on my device and followed the Wiki instructions:
"To use XDAunlock.......tranfer XDAunlock.exe to any directory on your device using the 'Explore' funtion of ActiveSync. Run it and you will be prompted to ask if you really want to unlock, and then it's done".
I loaded the XDAunlock program into the Program Files directory of my device. However, when I click on XDAunlock.exe it gives me 'error getting unlock code'. It all sounds so simple but it just doesn't seem to work and nothing in the instructions relates to this error. Can anyone help. I'm even prepared to call anywhere in the world if someone has the solution.
Thanks
The special edition rom should unlock automatically, the xdaunlock is part of the rom so there is no need to transfer the xdaunlock program to your device. If it doesnt execute xdaunlock on first boot after buring the special edition rom you can run it from the programs list or explore for it. Have you tried a different sim to see if in fact it is unlocked?
Hey, thanks for the quick reply.
I'd already tried what you suggested and it's what I understood should happen but it didn't. It didn't automatically unlock on first boot and I was unable to find it in the Programs list so I loaded XDAunlock directly into my Programs Files directory. I then located it in File Explore and clicked on XDAunlock.exe, which is when I got the error. The reason I'm trying to unlock is that I was formerly a TMobile subscriber and recently got a cheap Motorola when I switched to Cingular. I've tried both SIM cards in the device with the same result. I'm at a loss but want to try everything I can to avoid forking out for a new device.
Which Radio Version do you have?
Stefan
Stefan,
I don't know which version I have but assumed it would be whatever loaded with the Special Edition ROM 1.2. How do I check?
David
Radio Version can be seen via Settings -> System -> Device Information
The Radio Version is independent of the ROM Version.
XDAunlock do only work with special radiostacks together. So there may the problem why it isn't working for you...
Stefan
I'm apparently using Radio version 6.25.02

Stefan, I don't know if you are a beer drinker but I owe you one. Your suggestions, once I changed the Radio version worked like a charm. Now I just have to find the best OS for Cingular here in the US.
Thanks again for your help and don't hesitate to let me know if you get to New York for that beer.
Glad to hear, that your device is well working....
In my opinion, on of the best ROM is the 4.01.12 Version. Its a WM2003 ROM including wmodem to use the Wallaby as modem.
Don´t know if you have already read anything of the ROMkitchen, but there you can include some applications diretcly in the ROM.
YOu can create your own ROM here:

Stefan
PS: Don´t know if i will ever be in New York, but drinking beer sound great. ;-)
So many Things and hardly any experience LOL
tried downloading the special edition rom from The site but It must either be down or not there any more. any one know where I can get it elswhere?
I also have a SIEMENS SX56 with a Simcard from AT&T, bad thing about it is I switched to T-Mobile and now I get a sim Lock SID password box.
Have no clue where to start. Definately needs unlocking.. Now does it make a difference if the T mobile sim card or the AT&T sim are in the PDA?
So many Q's..
Thanks in advance for any assistance

I tried both links referred to in the thread and they worked. I'm assuming you have a cable connection as the Special ROM is 15+MB and would be a problem to download if not. Other than that, don't know what to suggest other than going back to ATT/Cingular, which I find much better than Tmobile after four years of frustration.
Good luck

T-Mobile PocketPC phone has no phone signal and can't upgrade to WM2003

I got a Wallaby PW10B1 from my friend.
The original ROM version is 4.01.16, but doesn't work.
When I downgrade it to 3.17.03 or special_rom_1.2, the PDA part works, but there is no phone signal.
I also tried some other WM2003 version rom, all of them don't work, which I saw a T-mobile screen and can't go further.
Could you guys help me to figure out the problem?
Thanks!
Where are you located?
PW10B uses 900/1900 MHz gsm networks.... Maybe this causes your problems with the signal.

Thanks for your reply. I'm in State College, PA, and have no idea which frequency Cingular is using here. I went to Cingular Store here, and put one of their SIM card in my phone, but there is still no signal.
I noticed another thing, with most PocketPC 2002 BIOS, my device is recognized as PW10A1, but on the back it's PW10B1. I tried couple of WM2003 ROM, none of them is working (can't enter the PDA OS, system will hung there after the logo is showed)
Do you guys have any idea what kind of problem it could be?
radio stack
rember i had same sort of problem try changing the radio stack don't use the 4.16 i could not get it to work
i think you have the same problem like me? yesterday, my xda is almost like your pda, but, i can found and fixed my xda and mr.stefan also help me just look in my title : " my Siemens SX65 AT&T wirelles No signal " maybe it can help you.

Thanks man! I will look at it.
Here's What You Need To Do . . .
Hi, bryt.
From the information you have provided, it appears as though you have an incorrect ROM image loaded on your XDA. The PW10B1 will adopt the personality of a PW10A1 if the ROM image for a PW10A1 is loaded onto it. However, this will not make a PW10B1 function as a PW10A1.
The biggest drawback of having the wrong ROM image loaded on your XDA is that you cannot apply the OEM ROM updates that were originally supplied by A.T.& T. Wirelese and Siemens. The reason these OEM ROM images won't load is because they actually do some device validation before loading. Originally implemented as a safety precaution, these device validation routines have become a hinderance because they prevent you from forcing a ROM update to correct a previous bad ROM update. There is good news though . . .
The PW10B1 has a mode that allows byte copying a ROM image directly from a flash card to the XDA ROM. I have converted the Siemens OEM Windows Mobile 2003 Update to a flash-writable nk.nb1 image file that can be written to a Secure Digital (SD) flash card and then force-loaded onto the PW10B1.
I developed this process after loading an undesirable ROM image on my PW10B1 in order to unlock it, which was successful. But, then I had a terrible time getting the OEM Windows Mobile 2003 Update back on the XDA.
I make the OEM installer version of the Windows Mobile 2003 Update available on my web-site. I do not offer the flash-loadable version on my web-site though. If you are interested in having the flash-loadable version of the OEM Windows Mobile 2003 Update, let me know and I will place it on my web-site and send you a link. The file is 32MB uncompressed and about half that size compressed, so I will probably put it on the web-site as a .zip file if you decide that you would like it.
Good luck!
Lisa

Need a little rom help..

Hey there. I think this is in the right area, if not I apologize. This is my first attempt at using a phone from another service provider on my service.
a little background information..
Im currently on the tmobile network and have purchased a cingular 8525. I bought the 8525 used and it currently has wm6 as well as the following:
M 05
s 04
b 06
r 1.16
g 32.53.7018.01H
D 2.15
I have already run the HTC sim/cid unlocker. I have the phone recognizing the sim card and can make calls and receive calls. Im trying to install a tmobile rom onto the phone to get away from cingulars. I installed the latest version of activesync and am currently able to sync with my computer as well as browse my phone via my computer to add/modify files.
The problem i'm having is when I run the official tmobile 2.26 release rom (for the MDA) once I go past the first two steps of the process its attempting to connect to my phone and comes up with error 224 saying my pda is not responding. I have it plugged in via usb and it is showing as connected. I've checked the phone's usb settings and nothing appears wrong.
Does anyone have any insight to what I need to do to be able to install a tmobile rom to this phone? Would it already having WM6 cause any issues with trying to install a 2.26 rom for the MDA?
Thanks!
Before you brick your new toy go read the WIKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have a new bootloader (HardSPL 1.40 if you used hermes unlocker v3a), and the rom you're trying to install uses a RomUpgradeUtility which is intended for old bootloaders (<= 1.09). Extract the NBH and use CustomRUU to flash it.
BTW, if you have a radio rom > 1.27 (with htc_boot 0108) the T-Mobile WWE rom available will brick your device because it has an old radio (1.05.02.00 with htc_boot 0106).
So if you want the T-Mobile rom the path should be:
1) Extract NBH from T-mobile upgrade exe file
2) use nbhextract to get all the rom parts
3) use nbhgen to create a new NBH file, containing only OS & ExtROM
4) Flash the new NBH with customRUU.
Read the wiki and the sticky threads on this forum before attempting to do anything, or you'll end up with a brick
I hope that you mean T-mobile MDA Vario II as opposed to the MDA which is a different phone that the Cingular 8525 (Herm100). You cannot install a ROM from a different phone type (through most install methods).
However, you can install ROMS designed for T-mobile MDA Vario II, Cingular 8525, Softbank X01HT, HTC TyTN (and it's other names; you are looking for TyTN form factor). See the wiki @ http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes as previously mentioned or do a forum search via google @ http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
Be sure to read carefully about the process of upgrading ROMS before you upgrade it otherwise, your phone will be useless.

Need help getting my phone to work on Hutchinson Three Australia

Hey,
I was given a Softbank X01HT from my brother and I've been using the information on this site to try and get the phone up and working on the Three network in Australia. This site has been really informative and I managed to do a lot of upgrades to my phone and everything works fine except that I get "no service" when I put my Three sim card into the phone. Could someone please help me work out what's wrong with my phone?
Here are the details of my phone:
Device: Softbank X01HT (Black one don't know how old)
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
ROM Version: CRCs r13.3
Radio Version: 1.47.30.19
I've done the following:
Upgrade to hard SPL (first thing I did)
Run the Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a (Though now I have doubts that I did it right)
Installed various rom (mostly for fun)
Installed Josh V15 Manila 2D rom
Installed the dopod AUS 3network WM6 (I thought it would have the right radio and settings)
Installed the CRC rom (I didn't like the dopod rom)
Any help would be appreciated. I've been searching but I couldn't find a good answer.
I'm not very familiar with that phone but you'll need to create a new data connection so that it can connect to 3.
When creating one, make sure you select the data connection type as GPRS, 3G etc, the access point is called 3services, no username or password is required. Should be good from then on.
These forums are awesome, with a bit more patience and perserverance I finally got my phone to work.
I did more searching on the X01HT and found that people were using the radio rom from pof's SIM & CID Unlocker. There was talk about cooking roms and stuff which I didn't want to try, so I decided to just run through the unlocker again. I made sure that I turned off my phone for 10 secs at the end and do a soft reset after the 10 secs, as I was a bit careless with that part last time.
After getting through all the steps, the phone recognised my sim and configured my phone for the three network. I can now connect to the net and make phone calls.
Now the details of my phone are:
HERM200
IPL-1.01
HERM200
SPL-1.40.Olipro
ROM version: CRC r13.3
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Thanks guys for running this site. I reckon i'll be on these forums a lot in the next few months. There's still a lot of tweaks I want to do to my phone.
Mate, bit of advice, install Hard SPL V7 so there are no "accidents" when flashing a new rom... Its a bit better at protecting your Hermes when you flash than 1.40. Thats an older version of Hard SPL.
Cheers...
