Everybody has been stating that they got GPS to work, but only some left instructions. I hope this helps. Thanks to those that gave me advice on how to get this working.
Make sure unter "External GPS" that the "GPS Program port:" has "COM4" selected. Leave "Hardware" alone which is the next tab over.
Then under "Access" make sure "Manage GPS automatically" is checked
Live Search for some reason wouldnt work until I got in my car and drove away from my house. Right when I drove away, the GPS kicked in, and worked as if I had an external GPS. My settings for Live Search are "GPS COM4".
In order for TomTom to work, you first have to get your GPS location in Live Search, then launch TomTom, and then TomTom will work fine as if you had an external GPS.
My TomTom settings are "NMEA GPS receiver" then "com 4" then baud is "9600".
These are the steps i took to get GPS working with the new ROM update using the internal GPS. Havent been able to test the Rev A yet. But it seems everybody is stating that is working fine, but only some were able to get GPS working.
Hopefully this will help you all to get GPS working with the new ROM. W/o me doing these steps, I wasnt able to get GPS working. Also please note that I had to leave my house for it to work. With my Bluetooth GPS receiver I could get a location in live search or Tomtom w/o leaving the house. But for the internal GPS, i had to leave the house.
Have you tried with google maps. For some reason i can get GPS signal in my house with google, but not with live. Also, under the GPS hardware, does yours say none, and baud 9600 or 4800?
Edit:
Never mind, I got it working, live just connected in my house. I have baud set to 4800, don't think it really matters. (anyone know what baud is anyway, and what the best settings are?). I wish there was a way to do this without live though.
baud is just another word for bits per second, its the connection speed of the hardware, since its internal it probably wouldnt make much of a differnce

I have everything working but tom tom 6. It says no GPS device what gives? Do you have to have Live search running in the background for tom tom to work. I close Live Search after aquiring five satellites then launch tom tom 6 and all I get is no GPS device. hehe I know this is a beta and not a release rom. I have no Idea how people can aquire a satellite in their home. Shesh I have a huge solarium and still have to go outside.
what do u mean you get five satellites? Also to answer your question, what i do is after getting the GPS fixture in Live Search, I just click start and go to Tom Tom, without doing anything to live search. It seems to close automatically when I open Tom Tom.
Does anyone know if the GPS signal comes via the Sprint towers or is my phone communicating directly with the satellites in the sky? I ask because getting a signal inside my house seems unreal.
GPS signals come from satellites which is why the signal degrades when you move inside, eventually becoming nonexistent or unreal.
When someone says they are getting five satellites it means that is how many signals their device is receiving and using to triangulate its position. It requires at least four satellite signals to triangulate a current position and the more signals it can pick up on the more accurate the triangulation.
Ks.
when i said "unreal" i meant unbelievable i have a globalsat BT308 (which is kind of old, i bought it in 2000 or 2001) and theres no way i would ever get a signal inside.
so even if i go out of sprint reception area i can still communicate with the satellites right?
For some reason I always have to setup the GPS device in TomTom. It works but as soon as I close TomTom it looses the GPS settings. Then I have to run through the setup again...
Anyone else having the same issue?
My GPS wasn't working at all until I turned on GPS location under the phone menu. Location Settings under services.
Once I turned that on my GPS started picking up satellites with in 5 seconds sitting in my house.
Does Anybody know how to get the GPS to work with iGo 2006? I am having no luck at all getting iGo to recognize the GPS device.
TomTom appears to have a bug where it does not see the port windows gps port sharing is showing because the hardware port is set to none (I think it's actually com1 for the real hardware). As a result until something OPENS the port for tomtom, it's unable to attach to it. Until this is fixed you have to launch some other program that does work first and leave it open for tomtom to open the port.

Theoretically, you should be able to get a GPS signal anywhere in the world.

I understand that they can selectively disable regions now. (read about it in the paper when they unfogged the signals) so conceivably,we wouldn't be able to use our moguls in iraq or afganistan.

I think what they do is place devices selectively in those locations that send out false GPS signals to confuse the NAV devices. (probably from ground based stations or on moving convoys that are trying to NOT be detected)

Has anyone gotten Garmin Mobile XT to work with the internal GPS?
I am going to hold off on Flashing and give DCD some time to mature the release since I already have a G10 bluetooth reciever and have no issues but it would be nice to be able to leave that in my car and use internal when I'm not in my own car.
As far as i know...these are govt sats that are "open to the publuc." In a state of emergency or other situation, they can be blocked or certain areas can be blocked so only, say, certain govts/military could use them. This was the only way the us govt was willing and able to let the gen pop use the sats.
I have seen many, many threads about POST installation issues regarding the new 3.16 rom. I would like to attempt a problem/resolution thread that hopefully everyone will participate in order to create a "one-stop-shopping" thread regarding these issues.
I figure the mods will later either delete dormant threads or compile related threads into one. Hopefully we can get most if not all issues related to post installation here and properly labeled...
Please post problem(s) and if applicable, the resolution(s) to the problem regarding the 3.16 rom w/ Rev. A & GPS compatibility, including custom & stock rom. Please keep the thread limited to calls, data ( Rev. I flashed this ROM and I have since, jumped to DCDs version of it, and then back to 2.17.
I have, and apparently, a lot of folks have had inconsistent EVDO connection problems. Some times it freezes on "Loading"...other times, I can begin to pull up a web page and it times out. Speeds were good when it rarely did work properly.
The odd thing is that I have loaded new ROMS (including the current Sprint OEM ROM) and I'm still having that problem. (I'm taking suggestions to resolve this)
Also, like others, voice signal displayed fewer bars than usual. More "Signal Faded, Call lost than I have ever seen with this device.
On a kinda more positive note...
GPS worked well (when the EVDO connection did)
New Apps sucked up more of our previous RAM, but I didn't have any
latency or freeze ups.
I myself am experiencing a number of problems with the new ROM version, and will be downgrading to 2.17 soon. It took 3 installations of the new ROM to get the GPS to work. Since then, I've experienced several performance issues, including multiple times where the phone will freeze during web browsing in Opera Mobile. Sometimes, the phone won't even freeze, but will come up with a screen saying that the system memory is low, even when I'm only running Opera Mobile, it'll ask me to close either "Opera Mobile" "Phone" "Phone" or "Phone". Weird? I think so...
Also, there are times where I won't even get the internet to work. I'll have to either go in to the connections menu and disable the data connection, or do a soft reset of the phone completely.
In my opinion, it's probably more trouble than I really need to go through. I will be downgrading to 2.17 until the official release comes out.
Same issues for me:
inconsistent EVDO connection problems. Some times it freezes on "Loading"...other times, I can begin to pull up a web page and it times out. Speeds were good when it rarely did work properly.

Spent 30 min with VZW level 2 support today. I called due to ##debug HDR an/aaa was = 0.. I was under the impression was supposed to be set to 1. They did look at my SSDR (I think he said that) and found it had a small issue with the authentication (still reads =0), but after he fixed that I still have issues. My HDR RDX power goes from -71db to -96db.
I also noticed every time I call the phone changes from EV to 1x. I know you don't use EV to make voice calls, but I did not remember (key word) seeing it switch like that before. Maybe someone with 2.17 1.40 radio can confirm.
I have thought about moving back too, but my call ticket history is getting pretty long with VZW and if I needed another A-key (yes I have one written down) it may start to look strange.
I'm on sprint and when I tried to update I was stuck on boot loader so I went online and switched esn over to my Treo for the time being as I worked on my Mogul. Eventually I got to load the rom fully and switched esn back. I noticed afterwards that my internet was only locking at 1x. Upon restart it would say EV but anytime it is connected to the net it is 1x. DSLreports clocked it at 50-90kbps so I know as definitely getting 1x speed. Reloaded the rom several times and still the same. This went on for 2 days. Eventually called Sprint and told them of my problem. They noticed that I was still on the regular Vision plan but I have always been able to connect to EVDO speeds so I never thought that was an issue. They updated me to Power Vision and right after I started getting EVDO speeds. I'm not sure if it was because of the change or maybe a restart of my data service that did the trick.
2 other issues I'm having is I noticed my phone is a little slow with this ROM. Opening programs etc. Sometimes the program using GPS like Live Search or GPS Viewer will lock up temporarily. The 2nd issue is what some are also reporting regarding signal. I noticed I get 1 to 2 less signal bars.
Overall 3.16 has been "ok". No problems with flashing really, and memory usage is "ok", I'm averaging around 17-18mb free with no apps running. It's not exactly the 20-22mb I had free with my prior custom rom, but enough to get by.
I'm not having problems with phone freezes or out of memory errors. I am, however, having some problems with BT and with net connectivity.
Data: I'm using Schap's Advanced config tool, version 1.1, and I've selected the option to keep my 'net connection live all the time. Unfortunately, this is not working, and I'm finding that throughout the day my connection goes down. With my prior custom rom, if I was streaming audio content over evdo or 1x, the connection would stay alive as long as the audio program was running, barring a loss of cell signal. Now I'm finding that about once an hour my data connection goes down and interrupts my audio stream.
BT: I have a Plantronics 320 headset, which worked flawlessly (albeit with less than stellar audio quality) with my prior rom. With 3.16, the volume and sound quality are much improved, BUT I am not able to answer calls on my headset. If I initiate a call with BT on, no problems, I can talk till the call is over, then press the headset hard button to hang up. If I *receive* a call, however, when I press the headset hard button to answer, the call is answered, but the audio is not directed to the headset. Instead, it routes to the handset.
GPS works well with TeleNav, GoogleMaps, Live, and generally locks onto 5-7 satellites within about 60 seconds if I'm somewhere with a clear view of the sky.
I tried using GPS2Blue to redirect the GPS data to a BT comm port. When I have BT enabled and attempt to redirect, GPS2Blue says BT port not open, waiting for BT port to open. If I go into comm manager and turn BT off, then GPS2Blue says BT port is open, and begins to wait for a BT connection to my laptop. If I go back into comm manager, the BT icon has been grayed out as if BT is off, but the little circled "X" icon is not superimposed over the BT icon as it would be when BT is off. If I click the icon again, it acts as if BT is being enabled, but the icon doesn't change, and the BT LED does not begin to blink. Don't know if it's a problem with GPS2Blue software or something else. Wish it would work cleanly, I'd love to use my 6800 as a BT GPS receiver for my laptop.
ETA: I've seen a few folks mention that when they answer a voice call their 6800 switches from Evdo to 1X. I'm wondering if this might be a way of implementing simultaneous voice & data. Has anyone tried taking a call and browsing the web simultaneously? I think this may be dependant upon network services in your area, so this may only work for folks in big cities with the most advanced network features, if it works at all...
ETA2: Just tried the above, and I'm getting the usual message that data connections cannot be initiated while on a voice call. I'm in a large city that *should* have all the latest network features, so if it dual voice/data was possible with this radio then it should work here. I'm assuming it's not presently possible, based on my experiment, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
with the sprint rom a ton of us have no audio out using an adaptor to listen through headphones
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363087
is a big thread about this going on the main board.
Took the plunge and installed the "stock" 3.16 on both my phone and a friend's last night. The first thing I want to note is that it went extremely smooth. No issues to note. It took a bit too long for my liking but it was fine. I didn't have to modify any MSID or MSN data - my phone worked fine right off the bat. Data was hosed, but a quick client-initiated IOTA Programming fixed that. (Settings, Personal, Phone, Services, Internet, Get Settings)
I have two constantly pinging(one 15 mins, one 30) e-mail accounts(one imap, one Exchange) that must keep my data connection alive. I haven't noticed a single decline in my data rate, nor a problem with disconnections. Then again, I live in NYC, which may make a difference.
GPS sucked last night - I couldn't get a satellite to save my life. On the way to work today, though, it was perfect. 4 satellites found in GMaps and tracking worked great.
I'm pretty happy w/the new additions to PocketOutlook too. Has anyone noticed that Gmail's IMAP works perfectly now, and that when you have multiple accounts - hitting messaging (when it's previously closed) brings up a choice of which account to go to? SWEET!
Just a quick "me too" regarding both disconnects and getting hung up during certain downloads. I've noticed that both "Live Search" from Microsoft's site and the latest (2.17) OEM ROM from HTC's site both hang up soon after they start downloading. This occurs both on the phone itself and while tethering to my laptop.

So the phone made me out to be a liar. The LiveSearch download from wls.live.com failed now. It definitely worked last night on my roommate's phone however. Hrm. I downloaded it from my pc and emailed it to myself and it actually downloaded. That's odd.

Had trouble getting my phone to flash, because I flashed the radio before the rom. Once I got phone going is working perfect. Hooked up to pda net on laptop downloading at 1.7 uploading at 500K. Use Holux to get gps started all programs work, Tom Tom is more accurate with my mogul compared to the external gps. Have not tried my s9 headphones yet. Running the DCD beta and I have no complaints except for the memory. Phone quality is the same.
v3.16+ ROM puts a voicemail icon on the 1 key which screws up the keypad if you are using the BlueFrog Big Button Dialer. To fix this, change the registry DWORD value at
Code:
HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA\EnableVoicemailIcon
from 1 to 0, and soft reset.
I was running Custels V1.1 2.14 and radio 1.47.00. I had my data set to connect all the time (which never idled btw...)and had Ev service everywhere. After installing Dcd's 3.16 & radio 3.27 I first recieved the "twin towers"... One had data connection and the other looked like the searching-for-signal tower. Plus my roam indicator was constanlty blinking.
After searching the forums, a helpful soul recommended *228 then press 3 which programs your phone. Remember that you are not upgrading to a new phone.
I then *228 and pressed 2 this time to program the latest PRL (which was 30029 before and still then). After searching some more, I saw that there was indeed a newer PRL which is 40029 (link in the first thread). I downloaded the PRL to my Sd card, dialed **775, entered my Alltel Unlock Code of 000000 and and the first screen I saw was update prl. Click on "Menu" in bottom right and hit the "Edit" button. Now you should see a empty value with "Browse" below it. Browse to the location where you placed your prl, upload and if you exit out correctly, you should be soft resetting your device.
After completeing the steps above, my roaming triangle was gone as well as the extra tower. I still have my data constantly on with Ev coverage all the time but my data actually idles now. Call quality has been noticed by myself and others as clearer and louder than before.
That Reg Entry doesnt exist on mine.

Mine has the following instead:
"HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA\VoicemailIcon
Value name:BtnDN_LAND Value data:Windows\_VoicemailBtn1_Land.bmp" and three other similars.
Should that entry be added in it's entirety or should I remove my current entries? Any body else find they have entries like mine?
I thought I had that problem at first, but when I looked more closely, the reg entry is *in* the CDMA folder, not in a sub-folder below CDMA.
!!Major Bluetooth Issue!!
recently installed DCD's new GPS enabled ROM for Verizon. Everything has been working well even the GPS !!EXCEPT!! Bluetooth OBEX. When I try to send / beam any type of file my XV6800 stops responding and I am forced to soft reset.
I don't know if this only affects the Verizon ROM or all carriers for that matter. Is there any one here that has a fix or know's of a fix to resolve this issue? Has DCD released any news on this? I would Gladly appreciate it, as all the people with this issue.
Searching For Service
I loaded the Sprint Test Rom. No when ever I boot my phone it takes ~4 minutes for the phone to lock onto the network.
You are may differ with this situation....
PRL's didn't change. Even reloaded 60610. EVDO roaming is gone. Guess they didn't like people forcing their phone to roaming in areas where Alltel has EVDO and Sprint doesn't. 60611 also removed EVDO roaming in my area. 60610 and 2.17 work fine with EVDO roaming.
CardExport & the My Documents-redirect-to-SD-card reg tweak:
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory
change the value of the string "Folder" to "My documents"
no longer work.
Hello everyone,
I don't know if your experiencing these issues or not but i would like to get some feedback as to whether or not i am the only one with these issues.
1. GPS - i recently upgraded from DCD's 2.2.2 to 2.2.6 (thank you DCD and No2chem for such great work) and now my GPS isn't working. The settings are all correct (com port 4, baud rate 4800 etc). For instance last night I knew i was going to take a 20 min drive and I wanted to see the phone track me on the map. So first i opened GoogleMaps and started it. well 15 mins into the trip it still hadn't locked in on my position. so i then tried Sprint Telenav ( i have a dealer line so it's included) and it eventually said finding gps 100% but right after it said GPS signal too weak. WTF, it used to work in the same spots. so i don't get. When I used to use blackberry's for nextel (7520, 7100i) I never had to do this "cold boot" thing. it was almost instant in finding your location.
so if you have any suggestions that would be great.
2. My profile ringer keeps on changing. I am in school so about 99% of the time i leave my phone on vibrate. well I was running the HTC Home and would lock the phone. soon after i would go to check something and notice the ringer would change from vibrate to either Loud or Silent. So i uninstalled HTC Home thinking that was the problem. it wasn't. I still have this problem. it makes it very frustrating because if i'm in class and my phone goes off then i've interupted the professor and they don't like that.
I am currently running:
A2dp bt hack
google maps
sprint telenav
ms livesearch
Flash video bundle
ms voice cmd
roboform
resco file explorer
resco regedit
Thanks for the help
JIM
PS this is also posted on PPCgeeks
Update:
I tried this, posted on PPCgeeks. I was actually able to get a lock on in gps. GREAT!!!!

sorry i should of explained that, Verikon over @ PPCgeeks Linkfound that if you change that value from 2 to 4, in the A-GPS (assisted gps) it will actually find your gps faster and with more satellites.
this with HTC quickgps is so much quicker for gps than if you were having the phone do it by itself.
Hey all. Here's my config:
DCD 3.2.6
Radio 3.42.50
PRL 51056
PRI 1.35_002
I've also applied all of the QPST changes per gc14 with the PDE IPs, settings, etc. I've also verified that my default reg values are correct.
So I can now lock GPS outside within 2 minutes or so after applying all the patches. I do use GPS Viewer to prime, but am seeing a strange thing in all GPS progs now. GPS Viewer as well as iGO8 will flash 10 gps signals for 1 second every 5 seconds, then the signals will disappear, repeating this forever. I assume these are aGPS signals but i'm never getting a "lock" inside, only outside, even though my cell signal is fine inside. Anyone seen this problem, or have any idea what i should check next?
Thanks,
F

Does the "GPS" section of FieldTest.exe show pilot phase/strength/time offsets? These refer to pilot PN offsets (i.e. tower sectors), as far as my understanding goes. If you are using standalone GPS, my suspicion is that you won't see any data here, however, not having the capability to do standalone GPS on my device just yet, I can't be entirely certain.
Worth a look, though.

Yup, I have noticed this as well. Happens to me regardless of Radio, PRI, or ROM. I see it a lot with HTC GPS tool. Dont know what it means but I eventually get a lock. I think VZW still sucks and the PDE servers are not as good as Sprint maybe? Im not seeing the "5 seconds locks" everyone else is. I am however getting very fast locks, maybe 20 to 30 seconds. Nothing more than that though. On occasion I still fail to lock but far far less than I used to without the PDE infomration. I dont know what it is but I can confirm what you are seeing.

My Fieldtest doesn't have a GPS Group, so no info there. Any other ideas?
Sorry, it's FieldTrial.exe and not FieldTest.exe.
At least with the MR1 ROM, there's a Debug Info menu where you can select GPS to dump GPS debugging information.
When using AGPS on my device with VZ Navigator, this is updated with tower information. I don't have a device that uses standalone GPS, nor a device with a different ROM other than the MR1 ROM, so I can't really speak for that unfortunately.
I'm not completely certain that you won't see the PN-related fields filled in using standalone GPS mode. However, from my work at hacking on the V740 some time ago, I suspect that pilot phase values are going to be related to cell triangulation (time offset of the signal from the cell towers being used for triangulation against the current CDMA time when the signal was received by your device, i.e. propagation delay).

Hmm, maybe we are getting somewhere, but I dunno since I have never used FieldTrial.exe before. I just fired it up and the entire GPS tab shows N/A for EVERY field. Does anyone else see that with a working GPS?

Okay, I think that you're operating in standalone GPS mode.
Rationale:
With my device (on MR1), when I access the GPS through the custom interface that LBSDriver.dll uses (i.e. via VZ Navigator), I'll start to get data in FieldTrial.exe (on a fresh boot, all the fields are N/A). Of course, the latitude/longitude are garbage (having not been through the decryption logic) as shown in FieldTrial.exe for me, but the rest of the fields (e.g. altitude and GPS time, as well as cell tower triangulation data) show valid data.
To me, this indicates that FieldTrial.exe is just pulling AGPS-related data and not standalone data.
Can you try disabling the phone radio entirely (via Connection Manager or whatever the app is in your firmware) and see if that changes the lock speed at all? If not, that's further credence that you're not using assisted GPS. (Caveat emptor: I don't know if disabling the radio will also turn off standalone GPS, as I don't have any way to check that. It should be pretty immediately obvious to you if it does, though.)
Please Help!!!
I love this ROM, but I cannot get good GPS quality with it. I know most people have no issue with this, but my GPS on my phone has always been finicky. I updated to Build 13 and Build 13 R2...and neither one allows my GPS to work. My GPS worked (although not really well) with all the other builds.
Here is the wierd part, when I travel out of my hometown (sarasota, FL) my GPS has always worked better. I work in Ocala and with Build 13 my GPS worked the other day, but not when I got home. I tried with the tweaks listed below and I tried before installing any tweaks, no luck...
I installed these tweaks:
GPS Registry - Alltel: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...0&d=1237009140 (direct d/l link FYI)
Turbo_GPS_Settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496800
Any help would be great, because GPS is my favorite feature on this phone.

did you check your GPS signal? I recommended checking it out three times...
I checked the GPS Watcher program if that is what you are asking...
In Startmenu, System Tools, GPS Viewer,
COM port #4, or simply COM4 4800 BAUD and hit OPEN wait 20 seconds or so until signal settles down.
Please post signal(numbers inside bars) and number of sats detected.
That software has a bug that when you do get a fix, it doesn't tell you until you switch tab back and forth.
Reason I'm asking for this is that I want to make sure your GPS unit can receive signal before messing with anything else.
Reg hacks and roms are not going to help if your GPS unit is defective, right?
here is a screenshot of GPS Viewer. This is from Ocala, Fl were my gps works fine. When I am in Sarasota, fl (hometown) the GPS viewer finds no satellites.
From the looks of the numbers, it seems like to me that either your phone is located so that sky view is obstructed with something metallic or your inside building with windows. Right?
One you posted above is when GPS is operational, so, by comparing this screenshot with the other screenshot with GPS non-functional it will greatly help out in finding what is actually wrong.
As you might have figured out already, I prefer data collection first and then action later.
This might be a redundant question, but have you gone into your phone settings to make sure that Location settings are turned on? After that make sure that AGPS is enabled.
Yes NFSFANs rom has those settings by default, but thanks.
Here is the GPSViewer when I run it at my house. I had to leave it outside on my table for about 3-4 minutes and this is the signal I recieved. There were a few more bars but by the time I picked it up and ran CapSure they were gone...
Both were taken on a clear day outside of a building that obstructs the view slightly, but not enough to have much difference.
Oops I forgot the picture, here it is:
Did this happen recently? Some satellites go offline and online periodically and you just may be happen to be in the area where signal dark occures.
or
Test with other Touch Pro phones nearby to confirm your GPS module pretty insensitive or not.
This is all I could think of, good luck.

It has been weak since I have owned the phone. It has however worked in Sarasota 90% of the time and works in Ocala all the time.
The main issue I want resolved is why my GPS worked on NFSFANs 112 Rom and before, but doesn't work on 113 R1-3
Can anyone else help with this?
Can anyone tell me if that GPS Viewer app will display MPH (as opposed to km/h).
The GPS on my TP seems weak/inaccurate as well. I had a Mogul before & the GPS on it was dead on. I have had 2 TPs; the first one was horrible @ acquiring a signal. Even after using QuickGPS, it would still take forever outside. The one I have now acquires much faster, but tracking still is not as accurate as my Mogul.
I just did a hard reset and now my GPS doesnt work. It was fine before, I have the current MR1 rom update, and all was fine before. Now it just wont find any satellites. I have all the settings right, location on, Com4, 4800baud, managed by windows... I dont know what else to do other than another hard reset. I called verizon tech support, no help there. We did try VZ navigator, and it worked.

Change your radio. Happened to me and that was the culprit.
