Do you need the games? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

ok are any of you actualy playing the build in games?

solitaire! hehehe bubbles is not fun
Sometimes miss a good arkade
ANyway I VOTE NO... You could let ppeople have the possibility to install them after flashing

Acctually, I myself I'm not playing, but my friends are (lol). Usually Bubble Breaker (I played for a while myself, record over 2500 on MegaShift ), rarely Solitare.
I don't play any games at all. And if I do, I do it in the bus, train... etc. = when I have nothing better to do.

Games
No, i dont ever play games, it will really free up some space if you exclude them.

Agree. Wipe them out. You can use the space for some useful stuff (Total Commander, for example)

replacing with more exciment game become more fun

Sometimes I play Bubble Breaker on toilette ...
Maybe remove them and make a *.cab for the guys which want them ...

dont need any games. i would also appreciate if office wouldnt be integrated in the rom, and only for installation with cab ... or second version with office .... or selectable which components of office can be installed. i only need excel for my drivers log, but powerpoint eats 1.9mb of device storage, but i never use that app.

I voted no since if im playing a game it will be a non standard game.
Only my GF will punish me if it is gone

My girlfriend plays bubbles all the time)

I think Games could be useful in case of Boringness.. But If u want to make it not build in on Prophet touch VIII. It's okay.. But please give a cab for us too.. So it could be usefull for people who like games.
I play it too sometimes..

no...............

no, remove them please and post the cabs

My son plays Bubblebreaker, so please keep it.

middle path
removing from rom and making a cab of those two games is the middle path i think..the best solution..

so, you vote for removing games?
---
i played bubble braker for a while in the beginning of my pda experience, when i rich a quite high score which i cannot rich again easily i quit playing.
i hate solitare. i prefer freecell in card games category.
if removing games don't open up much space it can be remain, but if you can do, separate *.cab files would be more efficient for all.
thank u gullum for your very nice hard work!

Please remove the built in games
I agree the built in games should be removed.
Guys I bet your kids and girlfriends are telling you they are playing games in your mobile:
- They are not playing solitaire or Bubble breaker
- They are reading you messages and checking up who you are calling these days.

what about the kids they would say daddys got a strange phone he had games previously now he is lying that the games are gone ,so next day if he gets a chance he would throw daddy's phone into bath tub ,
middle solutions is provide games in cab form somewhere so that who ever wants it loads it seperately But remove them from formal rom version ,which already has stability and other important issues to look forward to .

I had the intention to release for this app the VGA-WQVGA-QVGA versions as well, but this means a lot of work, since all the graphics have to be resized and the code to be optimized for these screen resolutions.
But...
But. I've released three apps so far (FakeBadge, Walk of Fake and Pocket Noise). In total, almost 8.000 downloads. And a single donation (for WoF). This means, i guess, people is not interested in my apps. Or, at least, not that much interested.
So, if my piggybank continues to stay empty, i'll go on to releas freeware apps. But only in resolution that fits my device (so, in other words, i'll share what i do for me): it's a nonsense to spend many hours working on other res for nothing, isn't it?
VGA version please???

Don't take it personally, but all three are really bling-bling or kiddy apps. Nothing productive, whereas Your programming skills could be put to use for coding something that's actually useful - for example, there isn't currently a single sms/e-mail app on the market that's finger-friendly, functional and has many options. So there's Your empty piggybank. I think if You'd write something that's actually useful, You'd get donations from at least hundred members, not 1. Think about that.

You could be right. Of course i don't take it personal, but what you say brings me to some thoughts. So, i say "could" for 4 reasons:
1. i know my apps are stupid toys. But why people download them, then? Eight hundred downloads in 10 days tell me that people like my apps, stupid or not. And download them.
2. How many "intelligent" apps have you seen for iPhone? Not so much, i think (if you've seen what i've seen). Despite this, the more an app is stupid, the more it sells on AppStore. And have you seen how many people here complain since such apps are for iPhone and not for WM? How many ask to port iPhone apps to WM? see how many did ask for iBoobs port, for example.
3. Some developers, here, develop "intelligent" apps. See, for example, Chainfire, Mitonioes, Blezalex, only to say a few. They should have become rich, if what you say is true. But i don't think so. See Mitonioes donation log for iPhoneToday: i think he is about 150 bucks: not exactely a big amount of money for such a long waited app...
4. Have you seen where G-Alarm is gone, and why? It was free, at beginning. then ageye has seen that, despite his efforts to make the app better and better, and despite the fact that it was one of the most (if not the most) downloaded WM apps, his pigybank as well was always empty. And so decided to make his app a pay one.
This to say that, for me as for other people that release free apps here: we do this without forcing anyone to give us a single cent, and saying that IF one likes the app, he CAN make a small donation to send his appreciation. But if people thinks that "someone else will donate, so why bother? After all it's free", this behaviour leads to the situation where almost the whole developer community has gone to iPhone, where apps are rewarded. Or, as i stated in 3rd post, one develops for himself, and if the apps is ok for you well, otherwise who cares? After all one does this for free and none cares to give him a sign of appreciation.
wow, it was a long OT. but i hope you understand why, if you could be half right, i too can be right the other half
cheers
So You did take it personally OK, just kidding. I see Your point... But I wouldn't go so far to call iPhoneToday an "intelligent" app as it (as far as I know):
1) Simply is a launcher, for which we have like at least 20 alternatives to everyone's liking,
2) It is an attempt to mimic an interface of a system on another system to look like the first system. It's like I would skin my ubuntu to be a mac. Pointless to my mind, no real productivity gain in that.
If You take a look at Iconsoft PhonEx for example, there is an app that has a really well-thought UI, options, intuitive usability etc etc, it's like a perfect example of what my point was, as it completely replaces the useless WM stock dialer and contacts. So I got myself a license, even tho it's 25$. I am willing to pay for great stuff.
G-Alarm does too many things (general mistake that every developer makes is that he thinks when his app has tons of features it makes it greater - it does not, rather on the contrary) to be a simple alarm/timer/stopper, for which 200-300KB is enogh, not 2,5MB.
For me it's all about:
1) Is there real comfort, usability or productivity gain in it for me?
2) Is it small and fast and doesn't have useless features?
For the rest of qualities, I really don't give a s..t.
But, if You are interested in developing something useful, take a look at this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520689. It has been half a year and nothing much has been going on. Like I said, there really isn't a good sms/e-mail app outthere

since you are the only one (out of 9 hundreds downloads) reporting this behaviour, i'd not call it a "bug". I'd not even call yours a "report", since it's similar to "doesn't work", that says nothing.
Anyway: i really don't know why your device locks up. Are you using the right version? For what i know it's a WQVGA device. Have you error messages? Do you hears sounds? Do you see something or nothing at all? What happens?
after clicking it , it gets to the main screen and hangs the device requireing a soft reset . no errors .
nice idea for a app but for now gotta stick with flaxbox ;-(
Was looking for such a fun app.
At first it works fine, but only at first as there are no seconds!
It runs fine after a reset, but is t able to start it up again after this first run!
I can press the button all I want but nothings happens no error message, nor no trace of the program in memory
Installed on HTC -HD2, storage card (do not want in in main memory).
Any idea's?
Note: Your Fakebadge app, also does not start after this app has run!
Note:2 Run first Fakebadge = ok 2nd =ok run PockedNoise = NOK
That's a realy strange behaviour, Pandor, but i cannot replicate it in any way, so i really don't know what's going on on your device... I too use the app from SD card, so that's not the problem.
I had a similar behaviour only once, when the app was still in beta: but that was because i had so little resources left (only 20% free memory) that the app didn't succeed to load all its resources and crashed. But i had it in memory (spotted via MemMaid).
So, if you have not it in memory, i guess the problem is somewhere else: maybe you've something running in background that leds to this. Don't know, sorry: as now you're the only one out of 15.000+ downloads reporting this behaviour
So I installed Memmaid, as the taskmanagers, did not show any programs running.
Here I saw that eighter Fakebadge or Pockednoise was remaining as a running process. Close the process and indeed it runs fine again!
I close the app with the Close button.
Note I have 200mb of memory left!

[Q] What are some "cool" things to do with the Tab?

I expect to get my Tab this week. Almost a year ago I remember a buddy of mine in Charleston with his iPad using it as a way of selecting method to play on his stereo. He was using the air sync (believe that is what they call it)... so it was really nice not having it wired or using an aux-input.
Is there an equivalent for the Tab? Are you guys just using Voodoo Sound and an aux-input? Would love to be wireless.
EDIT, looks like Sonos has a product called the "Connect" that I could add to my existing stereo.. they also have an android app to control it. Problem is, $350. Hell no. Others?
----
Using it as a remote for your TV?
---
Can it serve as a BT keyboard/mouse for the PS3? or PC?
---
What are you doing that is "cool" or really helpful....
160+ views and nobody could think of something "cool" to do with the Tab? That is not encouraging. I do not want this thing for just checking twitter folks. What can it do?
Angry birds.
Seriously, I use it for all sorts of stuff.
Ipod with built in speakers - I carry it around a listen to music when working around the house.
Digital picture frame - I prop it up on a shelf when we have company over with a bunch of pictures of my kids loaded on it.
TV Remote - I have Comcast, they have an app that lets me use it to choose what I want to watch (no volume control or anything, though).
Movie player - when I travel, makes a long plane ride go fast.
Guitar tuner
Level for hanging photos.
Scientific calculator.
E-mail, facebook, YouTube, internet, etc.
Fun games to kill time.
Read books/magazines.
Browse through the Android Market. There is an app for just about everything.
use of my tab
I use my tab more for remote work.
Besides email I use to connect my remote computer for many things are complex to do with a tab, but sorry, including print, but in general again for work.
If you have a Samsung TV, u can use the app Samsung Remote to control your tv
i use jefit and track my workouts - though you can use just about any of the workout apps. also use pandora while i'm working out.
and i watch netflix while running on the treadmill. helps me not think of my legs burning.
and comic and book reading.
My galaxy tab
I suppose you are speaking of the 10.1 version? Oh nevermind, it doesn't really matter actually.
I use mine for;
University stuff e.g. slide shows from the teachers, reading Google docs we made in groupwork even though it's not so good at live updating Google Docs yet as if your on a laptor writing in Chrome.
Reading e-books, which is really nice if the uploader of the .pdf file has done a good job!
Playing games
Reading news
Browsing the internet (it's nice on the Tab since it's much lighter than a laptop, has longer battery life and a bigger screen than the smartphone)
Mails
Picture-presenter - e.g. I use it to show people pictures from my Picasa web-albums. I only costs like 5$ for a years storage of 20gb, so pretty cheap and now I have all of my photos and videos online on Picasa.
Listen to music - via Spotify
I think that's primarily what I use my Tab for
Btw, I also bought a converter to HDMI, but I'm not quite satisfied with it. It only supports HDMI while the charger is plugged in, no matter how many percentage of power you have on your tablet, and the screen also flickers on the TV. I know this is a software problem though, so with ICS I expect it to work better.
80% flash
20% modding and hacking the tab(adhoc, remote, livewallpaper, bootloader animations, themes, ROMs, wii/ps3 controllers, etc)
As soon as you get it don't bother rooting, just flash cwm and the install Task's latest rom. Then you will have root, pershoot's kernal, (the best ) and the smoothest running tab you can get, then you can think of what else you want on it

If you ask 10 persons, I'm sure you will have 10 different answers!
I'm actually in a very small village in north Thailand. There is no landline telephone so no ADSL.
In my hamac, I am answering your question!
I use the tablet for a lot of things! Reading ebook, playing game, internet, GPS, emails...
Also read pdf documents, translate. Google...
Here, I have EDGE only, but at home with 3G/H or wifi, Skype is marvellous.
But also listen music and I love music.google (you can upload up to 20 000 songs, then you can listen them all over the word).
I'm disapointing with HD movies, I've tried a 720, !... But classic divX are OK.
The size and weight make it that I can carry my tablet everywhere and do everything I want!
By the way, since I have it, I drastically optimize the battery life of my phone (SGS2)!
Appreciate all of the feedback guys.

I took mine backpacking. I never thought I'd be that kind of backpacker...
But with the tablet, I didn't need maps, I didn't need a gps. I didn't need books. I didn't need to bring crossword puzzles to work on in the tent... So it did save almost as much weight as it cost. And then again, when the mosquitos came out at sundown, we watched movies.
That was inconceivable to me five years ago. Now I don't go without my tab.

It would be very helpful however if you would include a very brief description of what they do. For example Jefit and Intonow, among others, mean nothing to me. I know I can look them up, but it would save a lot of people a lot of time looking up apps it turns out they don't have any use for.
Thanks again for all the cool new apps. My phone is burning up from the downloads.

Don't be lazy man, I spent the last few years trying out and testing new apps. The least you can do is a simple search

Really? If you knew me you'd know that I'm anything but lazy. There are more than 50 apps listed (so far). The OP took the time to include a couple of words to tell what the apps are for. HE wasn't lazy. It was just a suggestion. One that I suspect everyone who reads this thread would also appreciate. I DO appreciate your list of apps, just trying to make it better for all.
C'mon guys. Marleyfan's got a point. I'll edit mine...
For the record... I am kinda lazy
Edit: Edited

4shared - find loads of shared apps
Cloud Print - print from your phone to your a printer on your network
Hanging Free - like words with friends meets hangman
IMDB - what was the name of that guy who played (character) in (movie)?
N64oid - N64 emulator
SoundHound - better than Shazam
Tim Hortons - a Canadian must have

have you ever run miui? no lie, i think its the best os out there. im more of a themer, creative, artsy kind of guy, so with customization options almost limitless in miui, it my favorite. plus its aosp, so its light on system resources and great for battery life. i miss miui so bad....
@glacierguy, I assume you're running Logmein Pro of some sort to be able to stream music / video? I've got Ignition and all my clients are using the free version...
Thanks.

Top 4 reason to buy a Smartphone

Not owning a Smartphone is increasingly seeming like an unusual choice. While savings can be made on a cheaper phone, Smartphones functionality and flexibility make them invaluable tools for the future, and more than make up for their cost......

or you could simply post here, its not that big. But perhaps you wanted to do some advertising.
Having smart phone is one thing, but I don't think that is the issue.
The issue is if the person has data or not.
If you do not have data you are limited in my opinion when it comes to using your phone. Unless you're in an environment where you are connected to wifi.
Both my parents have an iPhone, but they don't have data. So they can't check their emails/browse the net etc.
But, they don't need to.

Yes, completely useless without constant/fast internet connection. The difference
between 27 Mbps on on home Wifi and 0.5 Mbps on 3G while out and about can
kill all the user experience.

Smartphones are great for working but socializing? It's becoming hard to talk to someone while they're looking at their phone texting someone -____-

Angry birds Rio ?
Lol true, forget about that one.
Battery runtime for smartfones is still a bit frustrating in comparison with that old "justphones".
My Top 4 Reasons:
Always having access to Internet and email
Saves me money (Don't have to pay for text messaging, coupon apps, etc)
Saves me space (eBooks)
Convienence (Don't have to move to PC to look something up and can research from anywhere)
1. Netflix
2. YouTube
3. Email
4. Roadtrips
FYI I have to work on Saturday and Sunday mornings... Very slow Netflix is a life saver.
1. Email
2. Text
3. Netflix
4. XDA
I can do all that on my computer AND it's a bigger screen. The plus is having it all with me, everywhere I go. I tend to only check my email when I need to actually download something from work, otherwise I just use my phone to check my email. Texting is important to me, perhaps even more important than email.
This isnt related to our phone. If you want to start a thread like this, then go to the General forum at the top of the list.

[FREE GAME]: Vikings - Age of Warlords

Hi All,
We just launched a new game on Kindle Fire and we would sincerely appreciate any feedback. It's a multiplayer strategy game and we took extensive time to build great graphics and game play. Hope you like it!
Search Vikings - Age of Warlords on Amazon.
- Digisy Team
Loved the game till I kept getting attacked by the same alliance I'm ready to stop playing cause they take the fun out of it. How can we advance if we don't get the chance? Bunch of bullies is what they are.

You should be able to bind again with your Facebook account, assuming that it how you bound the game previously before it disappeared. Make sure that you bind the account on the same game server.
