Joker boot screen is no joke.... - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

Hi there,
the first screen I see when I boot my PPC up is a nice picture of a mental looking Joker, with all my OS versions and other numbers at the top.
I picked this little gem up when I installed a Joker, first stage update when ROM upgrading, it was fun for a while but now the joke is wearing a bit thin.
Does anyone know how to change this first bootup image? as I've created my own which I'd like to use much more, a search around my PPC and these forums didn't turn up much, so any help would be peachy.
Thanks all

check that, but you'll need to use a prophet flash utility at last.

sweet mamma jamma, thats a long list of instructions to ditch the clown. I think it'll be a weekend job that'un

there are pre-made ones floating around. u can always get those.

thanks for the heads up, I'll see if I can drop my own graphics into another distribution.

Other solution...
... would be to use the HTC black bootscreen that Jesterz is kind enough to provide for people just like you! (and me) Just take a look at post #3 here:

That brings my to this point.
I normally flash my Prophet with my Vista laptop. There is only an official RUU that does the job, all slim and tweaked STEP1's fail. It's no problem, but this working RUU installs not so nice splash screens, and I do have nice ones in stock! But the RUU's they use are failing to. So, with my "I only have a laptop with Vista" situation, I'm stuck with not so nice splashscreens.
Does anyone knows a simple, nifty utility that can open nk.nbf files, so I can exchange the splash.nb and that wrap it up again?
I tried this with Hypercore Kitchen, but that suite doesn't work with Vista either, all the files location are different and therefore the batch files don't work as expected.
Anyway, a long story for such a minor issue. It is just a matter of restarting with my eyes closed, or even better, no restarts at all!

For the vista thing, the better (and simpliest) is to do it from another xp-based computer, since you won't do it every morning.
For creation purpose, check that.

Thanks! I sort of found such a tool already, but this one brings me to more resources.
About the Vista thing: you're absolutly right, but I'm just curious if I could get this issue solved, like an experiment. The only thing is I don't find the tools to do so!
I'm trying to get XP on a second bootpartition, so I can dual boot to the OS of my liking. This way at least the practical stuff can be done, and I expect Hypercore to work properly. Think that brings me a bit closer...

Oh god... come in sucker.
First of all, before you even start using your phone, SIM unlock it, super CID it, install Bootloader 1.11 but not 1.04 unless you have Olipro 1.02b or you have acces to KITL, then flash every ROM you can find until sleep deprivation affects your marriage your job and you forget the name of your eldest child.
Then after two months of owning a phone that almost never is in a working state, you'll get it stuck in bootloader mode just after you suffered your first white screen of death, and in desperation you will call your carrier with a string of lies and send it back for a replacement.
Then you start the whole process again...
Have fun... not.

LOL - that is funny, but a little pessimistic.
If you have hacked your Blackjack to shreads, you will have no problem.
Start with MrVanx Upgrade Guides to see the process.
Then, once you have a feel for the bits and pieces of the process, read through the wiki and forums and you will be able to sort through the threds of relavence. It is really not THAT hard once you have done a little homework.
Most important thing - the first thing you should do is upgrade the SPL to Olipro's HardSPLv7 - do that first - that way you can recover from just about anything.
Rest assured, if you have a little experience, educate yourself and follow the guides to get started, your device will work 99% of the time. Don't fret.
I am also one of those new users and my 8525 is coming in a few days but i'm a bit technical about computers so i tend to grab it quickly, i DON'T want to play around with my mobile, i just want to unlock it, then put it to some good windows mobile 6, and then forget about it till windows mobile 7 comes, does that mean i use pof's sim unlocker v3a to unlock my phone...
alternative is Hard-SPL, if thati have seen that making your phone supercid seems dangerous and the safer s true i simply apply hard-spl on my phone? (though i don't even know what it does if its a utility or a piece of code integrated into your phone or a custom bootloader ), after applying hardspl, i simply follow the legitimate official instructions to install TyTN Mobile 6 official rom as if my 8525 was a HTC TyTN?
I just want my final goal to be Mobile 6.0 Unlocked in the safest go...

How do you know that WM5 isn't good enough for you? If the only thing you want on your phone is WM6, why didn't you buy one with this pre-installed? Maybe you should spend some more time reading before you get, and break your new toy - all the best links are already posted above and if you'd read them you wouldn't be posting these questions.

That link lists no fewer than five operating systems, for one device, all WM6!!!
Which one works??? This is ridiculous!

Thanks for the advice to everyone who gave it... I got my Hermes at 1 this afternoon and it's been sitting on my desk, charging and keeping me from really getting any work done all afternoon. I'm going to assume that all the acronyms y'all are throwing at me will be explained in the wikis...
Don't freak them out guys , get it unlock it install official go to bed happy, if you want to go crazy over installing different versions of roms all the time do so but check the safety steps first (many guides here, Mr. Vanx's is a great place to start) mind you there is no 100% safe option and most of the roms are more or less the same, you can always add cab files of things you want, it's better to stick to a clean rom. If you play with it there might be a chance you screw it... badly (even if you know what you're doing)
Me I just updated the official WM6 (which was released sooooo long later) thankfully in your case you don't have to wait.
Either way congrads on the phone and enjoy it, some small issues aside you have a great piece of hardware there.

thanks again to everyone! So, I can't read your nick without thinking of the Lethal Weapon movie with Chris Rock. He was detective Butters or something. Anywa, I digress...
I think your next logical step is one of two paths:
1. Cooking and coding - either for yourself or for a new release, if you come up with something you think is different or cool for the community - home cooked customization apps are quite popular - settings backup/recover solutions too - fewer options out there for that right now
or
2. Documenting - maybe something you could work with MrVanx on if you want to pick up an area that is not well documented adn try to document it for folks
For cooking, start HERE IN THE WIKI and see what you can figure out. I am not sure if all the latest kitchen releases are in here, but it is a good start. Follow the links then do some additional searches - lot's of cool stuff... enjoy...

Simple guy needs simple solution

Ok, here it is. I have a tytn (herm200) rogers provider in Canada. This part is tough to say, I'm getting old and I can't see the stupid time anymore so I would like to upgrade this thing to wm6 so I can have the larger display (ok so thats a pathetic reason) Can someone tell me what is the safest, simplest, most stable way to get that. Everything else is fine. I use for text email notes etc. I'm on the road a lot. If you make it simple, I'm glad to make a contribution. Thanks in advance and have mercy on an old man.
Eric
Maybe you could just add the htc home cab (do a search) this way you can have a GIANT clock. If you really want to upgrade to WM6 its pretty easy. Check out the WIKI and Load Hard SPL before you try to upgrade. I was a little nervous my first time but once you put hard spl on your phone changing ROMS is easy and addicting.
Thanks, I spent today reading (with glasses) and it is kind of intimidating but HTC and Rogers are no help and there seem to be so many choices in terms of roms and the danger of an expensive brick looming over my shoulder
what exactly do you mean by larger display? maybe you can just change the size of text and install the htc large start menu and large title bar. dont know if they both work in wm5 though
something like the standard wm6 screen would be great

If you want to flash you should do as indicated, and start by reading through the Wiki. Then go and read through the MrVanx guide for HardSPL. Don't flash without loading it first! Here's where you can download HardSPL. After that you just need to find yourself a good ROM. I'm currently running this one on my Hermes and so far I like really it.
But if you don't want to go to the trouble of flashing, but just want a bigger "clock" on your Today screen, then I'd recommend looking into the Pocket Digital Clock Today plugin from ProjectION. It will give you a big digital clock on your Today screen. I've attached a capture of my screen for your reference. Good luck with your flashing!
Thanks for the advice. Got brave last night (the tequila helped) and put in the hard SPL then tried Schapp 4.22. I like it but I dont have enough memory I guess, its kind of slow. Trying to find a light version now

Schaps makes excellent ROM's. But if you're going Schaps I'd recommend his latest 4.30 ROM, rather than 4.22. Or if you want to go up to Windows Mobile 6.1 then try the Faria / Dr Puttingham ROM I linked in the previous post. It's actually a little faster, and it's a Big Storage ROM so you'll get a little more breathing room for installing applications.

ExtRom exposed in DCD's 3.xx Rom's (w/full read and write access)

Hey guys,
a couple of people encouraged me to repost the instructions and files needed to have access to the ExtRom in DCD's roms.
I was reading the issues that some of u guys are having with dcd 3.12 release.
I to have had some issues that came up, but i was able to fix them because i had access to the extrom and added needed files and edited the config.txt to correct some settings.
I know there are some people who would like to use the ExtRom as extra storage and what not.
I was working on a project (im still in the middle of it) that changed the properties a little of the ExtRom and now it is seen as a "Mounted Volume", instead of the ExtRom. Had to be done in order to get it to be accessible with DCD's XIP's / Roms
It should work with most of DCD's recent rom releases, I take no responsibilty
for any damage this might cause, use at your own risk.
I have been using it for about a month on 4 different version of DCD's roms and have had not 1 incident because of it. So thats Y i thought i would share.
hope the instructions r clear enough to follow.
Enjoy !

lol- Going to the Library for lunch today.... Around 1 pm.... Love the skirts....
Sorry I guess for wasted everyones time since no one has posted to say if they had downloaded it or tried it out.
I thought for sure that their would be some people who would want to have access to the ExtRom in DCD's Custom roms.
Wouldve been helpful for me to get some feedback from someone, hell ANYONE, that it worked or didnt work for them.
NOT ONE PERSON HAS LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKED OR NOT FOR THEM!!
I FEEL STUPID!! to think i was going to contribute something instead of taking for a change made me feel good. I worked for hours to try and figure this out.
I never imagined that there would not be a single post to tell me whether it worked for someone or not.
Well i dont think i will take up anymore of your space on this forum with meaningless posts. I will just crawl back under my rock.
Hey Bun, I know that you were having a shot at me because I was and still am interested in this. Sorry I havent had time to give feedback on the extrom stuff. I have been really busy for the past couple of days and havent had a chance to play around with my titan at all.
I will give it a go today and let you know if it works.
Thanks or your efforts. Every little bit helps when it comes to the titan. dcd gets most of the kudos on the titan forum, but lots of others have contributed too. Maybe your extrom work will find its way into some of dcd's work at some stage.
Don't take it personally. I would like to try it, but the boat I'm in now has me pretty satisfied with 3.1.2, and am not planning on recooking until a new release is out. Any rom stuff right now is to try out the ppckichen stuff. I just think your timing was a little off. People will use it.
Someone posted in ppcgeeks that they get an error message when using the BuildOS instead of the BuildNB.bat that comes in DCD kitchens
Just a heads up, I only tested this with the BuildNB.bat
Worked fine for me. Only problem is that because it sets the ext rom up as "Mounted Volume" it sits above Storage Card in the tree. Programs like Live Search and the option to save email file attachments on the storage card default to save on it instead of Storage Card. Tried to get it to change default but no luck.
I am going to try a experiment and see if i can get the ; device.exe / gwes.exe / filesys.exe / shell32.exe to run from in the "Mounted Volume" to possibly free up some system memory, u never know it might work!
Thanks gcincotta for the feedback/ i will see if i can change the order in which the drives are assigned in the reg, to possibly remedy that 4 u

U know i have tried to tell the other guys in the thread with "DCD 3.12 kitchen"
that some of the issues they were having with mms and data conection was due to the crap that gets put into the extrom by the sprint rom update. Of course they ignored me or told me and i quote " u will ONLY get stuff in there if u let Customization run, otherwise NOTHING will be put in there"
So basically being called a liar, i just keep it to myself and have rather enjoyed watching them get frustrated by not being able to solve their problems.
I found it rather odd that some of them insisted that it had nothing to do with sprint customization in the extrom , especially since i know they couldnt look into the extrom to see for themselves, I was just trying help them out. Im glad u got a chance to see what i was seeing.
hey gcincotta
i finally got around to finding the reg entry where the path for attachments and live search lead to the mounted volume/ lets see what a lil reg edit will do for this issue/ By the way, it appears that only Live Search and Attachments are put there by default, all the other programs i use do not store anything in the Extrom, so it isnt a real big drawback, versus having all the sprint crap in there,
if you want the reg path to change were attachments and live search files are kept let me know, I would post it but i dont think its gonna matter to u, cause u probably are running the DCD3.12 with the extrom hidden . So i wont waste yours or my time posting that info unless requested.
By the way AZ, u dont need a single thing in there unless u r with sprint

Well you are right and wrong. The extended rom gets written with all sprint stuff upon flashing the rom. It gets RUN if you let customizations run after the flash. It will never get run unless you let the customizations run, it will just sit in there and do nothing. So unless they let the customizations run, their problems were not caused by the sprint extended rom files, but they are in fact put in.
Az, you can wipe all that crap out of there...it's ALL sprint stuff.

Where on your Raphael does it say Diamond or Athena, all unlockers are device specific.

Hmm ok i will sidestep the "what were you thinking flashing a diamond unlocker to your raphael when your device is NOT a diamond" lecture and simply state that you have most likely messed up your device totally...unless there is something olipro/cmonex can do to help you you have a paperweight.

Would the phone be covered by warranty? I can't power it up, so i assume the techies would just replace the whole phone. Has anyone return a brick phone to technicans and what was the outcome?

Its been stated here so many times, read the instructions before you flash/do anything...
Warranty the device, maybe they dont realize what you did...
You can also admit that you didnt donate for the unlocker...
My phone was already unlocked before I install the offending program. And No I didn't download it from a torrent site or illegal warez site.
How did you get it then?
hmmmm . . . Did you try the most stupid and simple stuff, like taking the battery out for a couple of hours, taking the sim and SD card if any, etc...
I will be joining Fuze group today...
Maybe I can offer a little help, I don't know the Fuze yet, won't have one for a few hours, but I had some great success unbricking hundreds of Tilts & this led to a cooperative project ending with Jocky putting everything learned into FrankenKaiser.
I will take a look at the firmware when I get my device, after much research of course, & let you know what I think. It may be a tedious project though as it might require a redio hack to allow DL mode to be entered from OEMSBL.
Oli, Viper & Jockey are all great resources, but they get a lot of PM's so it may take some time. Once I get a feeling for it & you answer a few questions for me, I can then go to them with more than just symptoms.
Be patient & we'll get it working as we've done for hundreds of Kaiser owners.

the other thing is, on new radios (HD, xperia, G1, etc...), the radio is locked for flashing. kaiser radio wasn't supposed to allow flashing unsigned code either, just HTC left a nice bug in the rsa check.
trust me the kaiser was heaven compared to the days now... but we like challenge don't we
so this device is a brick - he can RMA it or jtag it.
Wow, I am shocked. I've never heard a response quite like that from the esteemed cmonex That means if it is even possible, then it's burried & will take some time to finess out.
I'll tell you one thing though buddy, if its under the mfg warrentee then that's gonna be your fastest way. I know that Cmonex & Oli have spent some time poking around this area for sure, so if she says there's no way & says to RMA it, well that means we're still a good way off from finding the doorway into dload mode.

My phone was already unlocked before I install the offending program. And No I didn't download it from a torrent site or illegal warez site.

Not a lot of info in your op.
Thanks!

Wow, thats pretty cool. I am gonna check it out!
I was waiting for something like this!! Yayyyy
Great!
Though I feel I become reliant on these tools too much... sometimes I do it all manually just to refresh the skills.
I Totally Agree With Doing Things Manual At Times. I Made This More For The New Guys Who Aren't Really Sure About All That Code. They Can Use This To Be Rest Assured Things Will Go Well. While Still Able To Learn About Android.
Figures after I spend 8 hours figuring out how to do everything this comes out. Nice work! It was kinda cool learning how to use the cmd code though.
I'm Sorry Guys I Missed Something In The Code And It Opened An Extra Browser Window. Download Link Has Been Updated, Just Unzip And Replace The Files.
Well this just made my decision real easy... Thank you so much

As far as I'm concerned a necessity as these tools aren't always going to be available for every phone you get.

Agreed. The hardest part was understanding what the directions ment not knowing anything about using adb. I had some personal help from a few members which helped me understand but it made it that much more worth it knowing I kind of figured it out on my own. Thanks again to the people who helped me and those that have written threads with directions!
Nice tool you've put together. I'll try it out after work. It sounds dope.
I cant get past the first step.
I type "Unlock"
Then it says type the name of your browser ie: Chrome-Unlock
So I type "Chrome-Unlock"
and it just repeats itself.
Any help?

Same here. Will keep messing around with it a bit.
Now I can go into the next step, option2, which seems to be somewhat of a repeat option 1. Thinking maybe option one kicks off the process of the htcdev and then option 2 is when business begins since it wants the device hooked up and ready for action. Will hold off for verification just to be sure.
I appreciate the work OP.
I Am So Sorry There's So Much Code I've Been Using Multiple Windows And Zipped Up The Wrong One. I Added A Zip With The 'exe' To Just Extract And Replace With The New Code. Keep Me Informed If Things Go Wrong. This Issue Was Just The '-' In All Three Names. Case Sensitive Sucks. Again I Apologize This Is My First Program Using MSDOS Code. Not Bad For 1 Week Of Studying.
No worries... updates mean you are actively working to make it better.
The 22Mb File Has Been Updated Was Missing 2 Files.
When I open the tool it says... "Make sure you have placed the files in the correct place"
What is this referring too?
