Did you buy this phone? if so, go to:
www.xdaflameusers.com
at least, you get attention for your phone there. I think wm6 is brewing there already; so, TouchFlo shouldn't be far. I doubt if GPS is included in it as O2 is never fond of GPS. They enjoy their FM radio feature above all other things. (if you get what I mean)

It's been a long time, since you retired from your Atom forum that I was wondering where to find you again!
What's up? Which device did you switch to?
I agree with you. Although the specifications of the FLAME are amazing, I think it would be wise to choose a different brand.

Would you pay for a memory upgrade if O2 made it available?

Hi,
I'm using O2 Atom Life. It has 64mb of RAM (I can't belief O2 is so short sighted by putting in only 64mb of RAM for such a great device).
Just wondering whether anyone would pay for a memory upgrade (say... to 128mb?) if O2 made it available...
Actually I would love to have more memory on the O2 ATOM. Plus if O2 can speed up this PDA, that would be just what I need!
just that you would know. o2 is doing a balancing act with regard to ram. more ram would mean shorter battery life. but I still go for more ram 96mb is sufficient.
It is not just a balancing act. I believe that they will find it hard for people to buy a newer model if they start giving out upgrades or selling high memory ppc's. This is especially true if people fail to feel or see that the newer model do not have that much of a difference in performance than what they currently have. As of now, not everyone will not feel the difference between a 128mb, 256 mb and a 512mb RAM except maybe for the battery life. So if people are given the option to choose between a 128mb, 256mb or 512 mb RAM, they will most likely choose the first one because of the price. Only serious users will most likely choose the bigger RAM capacity.
Lol, you got it right, yetdy. Btw, I do agree with tjlabais... 96mb should be sufficient but 64mb is way too low for such a powerful device. It's like driving a F1 car in the traffic jammed city road.
I agree with yetdy too. It is a bad design that there is only 64M ram in atom life, I think they are not short sighted, just for "atom life exec".
Do you mean, they are short sighted? Not being able to see what is going to happen clearly in the future?
I think o2 is money hungry and poor support
i mailed them many time but no answer, so i will prefer jiggs rom even if i have to buy it. o2 support is very poor, just to support atom life they are not giving wm6 upgrade. my next phone will not be o2

You can try emailing to [email protected], the CEO. Normally they tell you that they have already responded to your email, but it might be because of your email server reject them (especially hotmail). I've checked the JUNK folder but they are no where to be found.

Ultimate is right. O2 asia is now being handled by another company. Just read it early this week. I forgot if it was from pocketpc thoughts or msmobile or something through RSS(egress 3.02).
Bad marketing strategy for O2 Asia. They thought selling good PPCs will gain them the support of people. They forgot about market preference in size and market support all because they wanted to increase their volume. They were able to sell well when they launched the small PPC line like mini, atom etc. However, people literally dropped them when they started releasing variants like atom-black, exec, pure and life. They should have been more creative like changing the name and casing for the variants and marketing them for a different market niche. Unfortunately, they never wanted to incur the expenses associated in the creation of the market niches for their PPCs.
I heard the last straw was O2 Flame which was one of the biggest flops of all time. Tsk.. tsk.. tsk... They should have followed what people have been posting on forums...
It's here. http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39001709,62034059,00.htm
Anyway, Mark Billington is still the CEO of the new company. The new site is at http://www.mwg.com/

VZW Touch Pro - 128 RAM???!!!???

The Touch Pro is now available on Verizon's site (LINK)... does anyone know if the RAM is a typo?
Memory: 512MB Flash/128MB RAM
According to the HTC site its 192MB and the word is it breaks down to 64MB of RAM that is dedicated to either O/S or graphics and 128MB for other programs...
Confirmation to follow when mine arrives tomorrow!
Verizon neutered both the Touch Diamond (lowered internal storage and added microSD slot, lowered CPU speed) and the Touch Pro (lowered memory and maybe more).
bummer deal...sounds like the Titan all over again. That's why I'm getting away from it.
They also removed the FM Radio and accelerometer.
Man do I HATE Verizon, and love being with AT&T.
Just to be clear on a few things.....
The Touch Pro from Verizon has all of the following...
192MB RAM
528MHz CPU
Accelerometer
FM Radio (although not enabled)
Also, the Diamond hasn't even been officially released so no one really knows whether it has the 4GB internal memory or not.
Personally I'd be happy if it doesn't, considering you can get a 16GB MicroSDHC card for like $30
And following the specs of the Touch Pro, i doubt the CPU is any slower either.
Alrighty, now that all the blind hate is over with, we can move on...
On an interesting note, if you use the compare function on the site, it shows 192 RAM... maybe there is hope afterall!

According to this site, you are not correct.
It was also believed that Sprint's Touch Pro had the FM Radio present but disabled, but it was quickly discovered that the hardware is physically removed from the device.
A phone company would not list the phone with 128MB RAM unless that is all it has. AT&T lists the Fuze's memory at 192MB RAM.

On the primary page of the Touch Pro they are advertising the amount of ram available after the OS and programs use the dedicated 64MB chip
And while we're at it, the Fuze has 256MB of RAM, just an FYI
if yall go to the HTC web site it tells you what the device has and whats avaiable to the user.

Ram size is 192MB (OS takes 78.71MB)
Flash size 512MB
OS memory 170.28MB

They gave it to me fore $75.00. I have a Vouge that I just got free on Friday. I saw this on Monday and had them O/N me one. I have to send teh vouge back and pay the $75.00 difference. I dont know at thgis point. I have them both for nearly 30 days so to decide. I love my vouge, dont get me wrong but this is something new I have to play with for a while ;c)
BTW: Its got 128 megs ram. Thats it. Not 192. End of discussion. If so then something is horribly amis with my phone as I only boot with about 45 megs free ;c( Very very disapointed!
Screenshot! It has less free memory than my Vouge on boot up? WTF?!?!?!?!
Ok, I honestly dont know how much memory this thing has. But the screenshot is real on a fresh boot with TF3D enabled.
so does the verizon version have the faceted back or the the same flat back as all the other cdma models

I own a THL W8s because I would like to test a dual sim device. I used to utilize a Samsung S4 and an iPhone 5 but I think the W8s is very good value for money as you pay less than half the price for the other devices. The only thing is when you want to flash another ROM, you will have to spend some time for finding one.

I'll second the vote of confidence for this phone. The MTK6589T 1.5Ghz SoC is a good chip set that is pretty snappy and has good mltimedia capabilities. It also provides for great browsing ability too. This is one of my faves for the Mediatek SoC and the kernel version has been fairly stable on the devices that I have tested as well. I think you will be satisfied with your purchase providing you understand that Chinese goods can be qwerky at times. Good luck with her and enjoy!

I saw a website published a THL W8S ROM. Here: http://www.thlmobilestore.com/news/thl-w8s-firmware/
I don't know this firmware can or not be used.
I am using one.
First if you don't root it, than your GPS is useless.
Second: if you use for development, the logcat will be full of warning messages, bug to an Android 4.2.1 bug.
Third: it is not for games, has low performance there.
It is good for:
browsing
stand by mode
basic, utility apps
The intermal memory is formatted as the aps has only 3.5Gb available.
Flashing a new ROM can lead to loose the NVRam content: serial number, imeis, mac address an so on.
We have different needs. For me the worse is the Android bug and they don't upgrade to 4.2.2 ... when 4.4 released already...
Using without root: no GPs and ads... is not for me

3.5Gb for apps. For me is enough now but the other 24 GB is used like the SD card, so the 32GB is like 4GB + 24GB SDCard...good or not, this is.
If you don't need GPS and not need Logcat for development, and don't wan to play 3D games at full resolution, speed, than is the best phone for his price.
Very nice screen, very high resolution.
Utility apps are working
Easy to root with Framaroot. Than set the EPO + gps.conf and you have a resonable gps first fix time too, still weak hardware and work work indoor, just out.
Photos: make with a special photo device with optical zoom and not with this phones, especially on low ligh conditions.
It has whatever Megapixel, but that is for resolution and not for quality.
At daily, sunny weather you can use it to post a picture to Facebook posting, but by far not the photograph quality. I don't use the camera, just tested 3 times. At night with street light full of noise the picture( low light condition)

From 4 core on this phone 2 is sleeping, almost always.
THIS PHONE ARE NOT FOR GAMES.
from 8 core you will have 6-7 sleeping, but you must pay the price for 8.
Smart idea to buyt a 32 core phone, to have 30 core sleeping
So many money thrown away why don't buy an Original S4? !

Actually, when I bought I was looking for " Samsung galaxy S4 alternative"
Now if you want you can search for "Samsung Galaxy note 3 alternative".
I would recommend this as a cheap phone, if you don't mind routing to have the GPS ( believe me you will need it at least twice in a year and never say "never". The gorila glass 3 is really nice. The Android 4..2.1 will be changed once and at 4.2.2 it isn't that bug, you can find here a custom rom with "... sony ericcson heart" for this phone. I have checked and that has other nice features for developers: GUI debugging.
For gaming take an original Note 3!
Usually it is used only 1 core at at around 500 MHz. The 4 core or 32 core is just an extra price, still lower than S4, but still unused.
Antutu will show exactly this:

I checked on the Internet for more information about this phone, the phone is very good, but size is a little big, samsung has a small size cheap mobile phone? (4.3 to 4.7 Inch)
I didn't find the right phone.
Great phone! Using it for 4 months and i love it!!!

hi, i would like to ask, have you tried the set ringtone to specific contacts? I bought w8s 2 days ago, and my contact ringtone won't work. The default ringtone is still the one that "ring/play". I also tried using Ringo app, but only the text tone is successful. Ringing tone is still default ringing tone.. Another thing is the profile picture of the contacts does not show when they are calling.. but it shows on messaging.
Im just wondering if i might have missed something, or the phone's calling feature is defective.
thank you in advance...

[Poll] NEW Umeox x202(?) KK4.4, 320x320, IP68, MTK6572W, 1900mhz

Just got note from my contact at Umeox that they are ready to produce a new version of SmartWatch. It takes after the general look and size of the existing x201 series, but adds some nicely upgraded features that are enticing.
As always, nothing I have is 100% confirmed... but rumors usually are typically nothing but just premature facts.
The watch will have:
1.2 - 1.4MHz dual core, MTK6572w (Not the 6577)
Full Android KitKat 4.4
320x320 LG display, 1.54" - 1.6"
Will be branded as a Umeox
1G/8G (up to 64Gb)
US GSM, 850mhz 2G and 1900mhz 3G
Wi-Fi b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0
GPS
5.0M Camera
720p HD video
IP68 water worthiness
OTA updates
So far, they have yet to receive enough orders to produce the first 500 units, currently short by only 100, and have asked me to post a poll and see how much interest there is for a device like this on this side of the world...
Initial reports show this watch will sell for less or the same as the TS.
So question of the day...
1. What is your interest level on a device that would have the above specifications? What would you like to see added or changed?
2. Would you buy this watch if the above specs are true, value pricing and is branded under Umeox with their support?
I'll go first...
YES and yes!!!
For me, one of my bigger complaints about my TS is the poor resolution of the screen. I think the added dpi will be extremely helpful in reading some of the smaller text in some third party apps. Also the failed waterproof design of the TS has me constantly in fear of loss doing menial H2O activities and is totally unacceptable.
Competitors or alike devices
I was looking at the Gear S due to it's beautiful curved, hi-res screen... But TIZEN....! Come on, Sammy, stop trying to become Apple and create your own ecosystem!
This has put my and my techy friend's interest in the AI Watch on the back burner and would rather have these specs. We all would very much like to see this one make it to the US market... Please give your comments.
My interest is low, because this is the device backers should have received.
If I can trade old devices for it, I'd be happy to.
Otherwise, no. The interest is clearly there but not for what I paid at KS price for the TS1.
My interest is high. I would buy if it had kk and some improvements in hardware.
Perhaps if MediaTek is participating with the Android One initiative we will see better support? Dunno what the board specs are so who really knows.
http://www.mediatek.com/en/news-eve...-affordable-smartphones-for-emerging-markets/
But yes, I would buy it right now if it had a slight hardware bump and KK.
Couldn't agree more! But in the end, the TS was a first. Technology firsts don't have the greatest of track records. Of the standalones available or coming available, ie Gear S, AI Watch and various no name SZ offerings, this is the only decent possibility. IMHO
Yes, if it has KK, Bluetooth low energy, all the previous flaky bluetooth issues are fixed, speakerphone call quality is improved and my biggest issue, battery and SIM shouldn't need a screw driver to get at, make it easy, it isn't water proof and doesnt need to be

This is the x201 specs, except for the screen and uC. I do not see the use for a 320x320 1,6'' screen. Maybe a 320x240 2'' (same width). I do not follow 6577 instead of 6572: More power required (40nm vs 28nm) and I see low need for faster CPU.
Umeox branding is fine - the company that can just not disappear without loosing credibility.
However, the specs are OK, it could be interesting.
But the most important is in the details:
* Thickness/weight?
* Auto-focus on camera? (Why 5MP....)
* Control of kernel and Android at Umeox? Quality of drivers? Follow the GPL? Work with the community? Android updates?
* HW reliability? Real or fake IP68?
There are alternatives already. Personally, I want a sports device with barometer and preferably ANT+ too, nothing there yet.
However, I will pass on this one until the commitment to live up to the specs can be believed, the track record is not too good (I still believe Omate had good intentions).
Edit: Getting stable ROM and usable kernel source for existing x201 is one way to make me interested.
Yes
I think I would like my TS if its touchscreen was not defective. I will be trying again with some type of stand alone phone swatch. not interested in a BT dongle watch.
Interested in the PCB, components and full source code. Then build these instead;

I agree with you on this. I bought the Extreme Edition of the watch. If they would let me trade in my current one for, at least, some credit towards buying the new one, it would be nice.
I would be interested.... Support would be my biggest concern... The TS does everything I need it to do. I had no designs on it replacing my phone other than when running... Beyond that, it's a glorified iPod for me so it works as intended... My issue with it is that if the band breaks or it has some other problem, there's little to nothing that can be done about it. I wear it everyday and so far it's held up but I'm sure it's only a matter of time...
I can't believe that the specs are right.
MT6577 is a 40 nm CPU from 2012. Should be a very bad option for a smartwatch with small battery. Long time ago since I saw new devices with that CPU. Most of them had ICS, only a few get updated to Jellybean (4.1). I don't know any mt6577 device with Kitkat.
Other Chinese smartphone manufactures switched to other CPU to ship their devices with a more recent Android Version. I thought mt6577 was EOL.
The upgraded screen is a definite plus for me. As said before, the CPU is kind of old...if it was styled more like the Omate I'd be interested. I prefer the look of the Omate to pretty much any of the other watches based off the x201.

You are correct. After a quick confirmation, he was mistaken in his first spec list. The CPU is going to be:
MTK6572w
I just got the full spec sheet from Umeox. I'll check if I can post publicly.
Will change OP, thanks for heads up.

Agreed on the styling... I have had strangers ask about it because they liked the style of the Omate.
The Iron Man is the x202.
1. I would need dimension: width, height and thickness ... some are far too big and thick to wear.
2. Battery life!?
3. Loads of sensors ...barometer, compass. ..etc. with sensors it can compete with other sport watches.
4. What assurances can they give that they will keep their promise?
I mean we can all show our interest but we're not obliged to order so yes I'm interested with the same conviction as the supplier.
MT6572 - the same (or similar) processor as the InWatch Z, interesting, with MediaTek MiraVision.
Sounds relatively interesting-whether I would actually shell out hard cash is another thing altogether.
Still finding little niggles with my TS-so just a bit wary.
water resistent? Strap changeable? scratch protection? If no, there is no reason to change from my Omate and Simvalley AW420...

So if 500 orders are made then what happens? What are the nexts steps?

Best place to buy PC parts?

What do you guys use?
I usually compare Amazon and NewEgg and just go with whichever has the better price.
Also, anyone remember CompUSA before it went out of business?
CompUSA was nice, back in the early days

ah, so... XDA has a PC tech side now... yes...
anyways, I like to check amazon for free shipping and decent "warehouse" specials
bhphoto for tax free sales to my island, and usually very strict about pricing (they actually do MSRP)
newegg isn't really that good for me for years, they've raised shipping prices tooooo much, and pricing is not really competitive because of that.
ebay for used motherboard for older platforms... (ivy bridge / haswell...) and laptop parts...
I try to use newegg when possible, but It's hard to beat Amazon prime offers. But, my secret weapon is always newegg.com. Check their daily deals as often as possible. All of my best tech deals have been from there.
Use to use Mwave but they died. Mouser Electronics or Digikey for components and various electronic supplies.
Newegg and Amazon but I wish there were more.
Amazon is especially hated...

I agree, I always check Newegg before Amazon. I got my GPU from Microcenter
In india I always prefer MD computers
Easy now!
Things have changed a quite a bit, on Where and When, Personal users can purchase "Parts" (Parts=just about anything, in the Box, Tower, and even Laptops tablets) Dont work in a lab or do it for a living... Lab , might be cool, then again, might not!
Now, it really depends on the scope of the project. IF I am building for someone else, I do my homework and really get to find out IF or When I can get a certain list of parts (Mostly the most newest Intel part, that you just can go to a box store, and walk out with said part, why ? ) then get what I can/need!
OK, now that said, I use Digikey, Newegg Amazon, Microcenter to actually name a few. Have found a few others, but they are in bed with the Major company- (Hint Check out AMD and Intel- they have certain suppliers. This list, has changed, - opens up other places, but if you want the newest, latest xyz part, might be in for a wait)
Never use Best Buy. for Internal Parts, too $$$$ !
Short list is Amazon and Newegg, ...
Hope this can help
Anyone ever try Tiger? https://www.tigerdirect.com/
I use Newegg, avoid Amazon and Doctor Evil.

Me too, probably 15 years ago?
Newegg.com only inside USA, right?
Or they send overseas?
Amazon.
im just gonna go and say amazon will only be PC parts not laptop, and limited. if you want motherboards, specific and usually cheaper deals would be ebay. newegg if you ass is wiped with gold bars and amazon if you want fast shipping and moderate prices. ebay is a very reluctant tool sometines. and if you're not flaking gold bars, and want to find a relatively fast option is to buy a motherboard for an i5, i7, laptop off ebay and just using the hdmi ports, for display and external keybaord and mouse. just an idea i did at rough times.
Does anyone here had gone to computer shows? When I was building my own PC, I used to go to the computer show and checked the parts and bought them. The company that organized the computer shows had decided to stop doing that because of the internet, less people going to the shows. I will have to build a new PC b/c the one I am using is not compatible with Windows 11, and I also need one that can handle more resources for day trading.
.
The OP had mentioned about CompUSA, which brings back memory about the first PC (complete package) that I bought with them. The package cost was $1500.

Both Amazon and NewEgg are amazing. Also, try some Offline Market so that you can easily compare prices.
I would prefer Amazon and BuyKingston. I have been using Hyperx RAM for more than 11 months and it's doing the job pretty well for me. Till now, my PC is running like a beast.

I start with NewEgg for mostly selecting the parts I'll buy, referencing high ratings et cetera and individual reviews. Then I check for those parts on Amazon and also at MicroCenter - which I've been buying things from for almost 40 years starting with floppy disks by mail order way back then. I still get some parts from NewEgg. A year ago when I built my PC, I bought the motherboard, CPU, and some M.2 SSDs locally at MicroCenter because they were the cheapest for the parts I wanted.
I used to use TigerDirect. They've been mostly useless to me in recent years. Some of the last things I had gotten from them 7-8 years ago was a humungous but plastic computer case that after rebate I paid $5 for. I used it up until my build last year, when I bought much higher quality but still even larger desktop cases (one each for my wife and I - my old computer became her new one).
TigerDirect's April fools joke from 2015 was funny:
