Hi folks...
I have been a part of this forum for years now... I started with the Himalaya and moved on until the universal... Last year i gave up my universal and now am lookin forward to comin back to the WM platform. Unfortunately, there are not many options in the US it seems. I was considering buying a Herald (T-Mobile WING). Does anybody wanna guide me by comparing the stability of the ROMS and the hardware quality between a Universal and a HERALD??
Is it worth the money??
Thanks alot.
Regards,
KT
Oh common guys,
Spill it out... Any help would be appreciated... Pls... Thanx...

well, a ROM is a ROM, is it not? It really depends on the skill of the creator. We only have two main chefs, PDAVIET and Itje, and only Itje regularly releases new roms. We're all waiting for his touchit v2 for the wing, which we all expect to filled to the brim with kaiser converted goodness. He's already released it for the herald. Heralds and Wings have different hardware keyboards and, as i understand it, not much else.
Hardware wise, the Wing is quite a solid phone. There have been battery life issues, but thats an issue with all WM phones. Other that, there have been no serious problems. The processor IS a bit slow, but we all overclock to 247 or 273 mhz, so it doesn't really matter.
Aesthetically, the wing/herald is much sexier than the Universal. It's actually quite thin, and I believe was one of HTC's first phones designed for for both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
thanx mate...
appreciate ur input...
Any Herald on Sale?
Anybody in the US willing to sell their Herald? Pls do let me know..
Understandably I am not looking for a defective\ torn up piece... Its just that if somebody thinkin of upgrading or switching from WM platform and wants to sell his/her Herald.
For a safe and easy transaction we could conduct it through eBay. Thanks

mOrph

can Atom Life owners confirm that the LCD's are free from the horrible squealing noise? I am considering buying one.
I have had four Atoms replaced for the squealing LCD's and still the damn thing squeals its head off, I swore I'd never buy another O2 but the Atom Life is a good looking package, fast, plenty internal storage, WM6, improved audio, however there is no way I am spending $1000 on a squealing whaling faulty handset again especially with the customer support offered by O2! Why on earth would they continue using Quanta with all the troubles they had with the Atom and Atom Exec.
i suggest you buy o2 FLAME..it much better than all..
-=[serialzs]=-
Yeah I've seen the Flame looks a good unit too but its just too big, so can anyone confirm the LCD's are ok?
I'm using an WM6 atom life and have found no squealing isues with it.

Phone Selection Guide
I suggest you surf at www.pdadb.net and do a device to device comparison... from technical specs to looks and sizes... You can even set the specs you want and list out all the options.
O2 is not the sole seller of the good stuff... if you know what I mean.
Good Luck!
O2 Atom Life
Im wondering whats the problem really...because mine is totally awesome. I have no complain on my O2 Life even after I installed HTC Kaiser Home plugin, SPB Mobile Shell/Diary/Back Up, Resco Explorer, etc...what Im saying is that this is the best PPC/PDA I have so far....no complain. Full Stop.
Atom Life - best ever
Totally agree with Observer 365 - best I have owned.
No squealing, no call dropout (have prioritized GSM over 3G to avoid auto switching when 3G gets weak), only slow when i have more than 4 or 5 applications running and one is doing something (to be expected).
The only issue I have is that I have spent close to $3000 on PPCs to get here, and I spend way more time than I have available fiddling with it! Well done O2. A better device every upgrade.
mbb
I am very put off by anything made by Quanta! The Life is just the Atom with an upgraded CPU and bigger rom other than that I hear the Mobo is exactly the same....jigga jiggs is right O2 is definately not the best seller of the 'good stuff' Thank you for your feed back.... btw currently considering HTC Touch 2 (HTC Nike) only if its released with inbuilt GPS or the HTC Vogue if it is released with GSM functionality but I doubt it.
rofl get a nokia n95..
i regretted getting an o2 xda atom exec
this looks good check it out

no chance I'll ever buy any Symbian especially not a mechanical one
i have been using quanta apollo for a few months now and it works flawless....
though i would not say that it is fast but then it aint slow either and the 1GB rom is a plus point with a whooping 624Mhz is another whammy
but if u ask me personally i would prefer my sister's Flame any given day the 128Mb ram does wonders (though u must not mind its huge size!)

i'm with you on that one m8
i myself have jumped the boat too WM and dont regret it a single day...
though symbian is less hassle but then it may be because it has very little productiveness and the hardware config is still so primitive(i mean the processing and RAM)
... but one thing is sure symbian os is an OS to look upto in the near

sorry for my English (Google translator), but too early to bury our phone
Really unbelievable, dude!
I have done so many bad things with this phone: experimenting with drivers, flashing and nothing happend during more one and half year.
I had in my hands Glofish x700 that was bricked on 2nd day, fortunately had jtag guys closeby
I think during production of i780 was diversion from htc that they put malitious code and many of "Mirage" (i780 factorys name) became timebombed and spreaded around the world.
Actually i780 was first Samsung sized 320x320 with ts and keyboard , so I can imagine its more experimental and same time EXPENSIVE looking model in old samsung style "business. made in korea. battery made in japan", thats upgrading was broken up by world crysis company project...
Omnia I and Epix, young american i780 brother, came later and more developed than i780. But whats wrong with epix? It has new keyboard shortcuts but doenst has samsung task manager poor at&t capped, if want - was a nice phone!
Just seen many Omnia 1+ till upcoming Omnia 4 they are not standing close by impressions(toy looking, cheaper materials, samsung/msm processors- economy class with "Pro" preffics?). Sure bigger amoled screen is part of deal!
Dude Im not about your choise. b7610 is really nice phone. But question how do you answer palringo when driving? Its so hard to slide and write on it with one hand
I love this small smart more than phone speedy undead handy and keeping waiting for wm7 phone
I love my Kaiser and I love android, but the poor Kaiser just needs a little more ram to be really effective with Cyanogenmod 6. I have been trying my wife's old iPhone 3G lately, and the screen is nice, but I can't stand many things about it (no HW keyboard, still running out of RAM, etc). I can sell the iPhone to fund a phone, but I really can't afford much more than a 1:1 price difference, so HTC's latest and greatest that sells for ~$500 is out for me.
Really what I'm looking for is some direction here. I am not trying to skip out on my own research, but I would appreciate someone suggesting some models that I can research. So far I've looked at G1's since they can be had fairly cheaply and are an android native phone. I've also looked at AT&T Fuzes, as well (I happen to have AT&T). Can anyone recommend a personal favorite for android 2.2 / CM 6 that I can add to my research list?
Thanks all
I think it is time to get new PDA!
I have think about HTC HD2 and HTC Desire. Question for thous who have used HD2, Desire or other similar mobile devices.
Of course Desire use Android OS 2.1 but HD2 use Windows Mobile 6.5. I have expirience only on WM because now I have HTC TyTn.
I want now which is moust customizable, which one have the best soft etc..?
I also now what now on HD2 you can do dual boot with WM and Andorid OS. So maybe it is worth to buy HD2. Also if you sugest me to buy other PDA please levae a comment with reason why..
Personally I'd wait for the hd3 there is no official release date but sometime in 2010 I would imagine.
Any technical spec for the HD3 aka HD7 yet? or should we in the USA wait and see what happens. Hence the EU-Leo512 and US-Leo1024, also not a big fan of panzy looking WM7 theme. I mean WTF is up with that? does M$ think that we are retarded or something? WTF is up with 4 square sectors? feels like I'm making an GUI panel in Java.
Hahaha (four square sectors) calm down man.. nothing official just speculation flying around getting people excited.why is it that the EU model get less ram than the US plus the US got the Evo!! What really peed me off was not getting wm7 upgrade on the hd2!

+1
Same here man.... really sad about that
Hope the geniuses at XDA can work something out
So if new HD3 comes out it will cost much more. And old HD2 will start to die. Also after about year there will be new phone.
So tell me.. Do you bought this phone with some operator plan or from hand or in reguular shop? Used or new?
Get an HD2 and run the desire 2.2 update ROM on it. Best of both worlds and much cheaper too
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm welling to pay up to $750 for HD7 if it grantees no BS EU/US version difference. Also WTF is it released on UK? Still waiting for spec sheet hope they deeply Qualcomm's dual core proc clocked at 1.3ghz and at least have 1gb ram. Far as NAND goes I'm happy with 1gb but hmmm i hear no micro sdhc support for WM7 is that true? If so M$ should be wiped out with there POS platform. Not big fan of iOS/Android but it would still be better than M$ if they are dumb enough to isolate there core users who actually knows howto operate it.
I am in a purchasing dilemma since my Diamond died. I have HD2, Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire in my list.
Let me try to write what I have in mind. Pardon me if I offended anyone but these are purely my opinion.
Looks: HD2 has the sleekest design, Samsung Galaxy S isn't bad either but I don't like the curved corners in HTC Desire.
Winner: HD2
Screen: SGS has 4" S-AMOLED. HD2 doesn't but has got 4.3" gorgeous display. HTC Desire is somewhat in the middle, offering 3.7" SLCD.
Winner: SGS. Runnerup: HD2
Camera flash: SGS doesn't have a flash. I assume HD2 has a better dual LED flash than Desire.
Winner: HD2
OS: This part is what I hate and largely contributes to my dilemma. SGS and HTC Desire runs on Android natively, which I think these devices have a long time to be developed before they become obsolete. HTC Desire may have a leading edge compared to SGS because HTC devices have a great amount of developers working on it. HD2 is capable of running Android but its fundamental operating system is WM 6.5, which soon may become obsolete.
Winner: HTC Desire
Graphic performance: SGS has a better GPU than HTC Desire and HD2. I also wonder if the poorly implemented GPU driver in HD2 would hinder progress in future Android builds such as Gingerbread.
Winner: SGS
Price: SGS>Desire>HD2 in my country. HD2 wins.
Guys, help me decide. I could have waited for WP7 devices IF my Diamond did not unexpectedly give up, but I don't have a choice but to grab a phone now. Which device should I go for? Or could I have overlooked any potential models?
nice review but which uses u do with ur phone that what important
I use my phone for browsing, instant messaging and GPS. I prefer phones which I can modify its software to fit my needs, for example, ROM cooking. I am leaning towards Android, I have been using WM for too long and I'm a little bored with it.
....ive been a user of HD2 for the past year nd honestly.....i couldnt stand the msgng client in it! it just is plain frustrating........also from the momnet u buy the hd2 u cant but start installing stuff to change the whole phone experience!........same thng with my previous diamond 2!
i bought a SGS nd so far have been very impressed.....no lags.......no restarts........however i miss wm apps.......you have open source apps for wm which span all categories nd most are free or cracked.......android is still new but has potential if you bear the wait.......for ex you can't find a decent battery/clock/weather widget for your homescreen!!!! ..........already am looking forward for windows phone...........but i guess android it is for now.
As for SGS vs Desire, well to tell u the truth, i became very doubtful abt HTC support services...........they never target the right issues! they're just too lame......
If you happen to have any spare phone (smart or not) lying around then I'd suggest you use that phone until WP7 phones come out. They are coming really soon and you should give them a chance to be considered. You might regret if you buy a phone now and a month later a WP7 phone comes out with features that you really really like.
Well, Just my opinion - that's what I'd do anyway if I was in your situation. In any case, good luck with your decision

Simple answer. NO!
The phone is quite old now and you will receive no support at all from HTC.
I think this is too important to ignore ...

I am using HD2 and i'm very happy with it. If you wanna go HD2, be alarmed that the stock ROM from HTC won't be a satisfactory user experience. I would advise you to look for a custom ROM, that fulfills your user needs (battery power absorbtion, eye candy, crashing,...)
After that you get almost unlimited customisation ability. On the other side, HD2 won't gen any major official customer support, so if you are o.k. with that, there's no other trendemous downside.
One other thing...
if you are a regular customer, who prefers simplicity and no customization (iPhone), this is probably not suited for you
Sent from my HD2
downside if you get the hd2 is that, i doubt htc will release any further official updates for it however look how much this forum has to offer in regards with cooked roms, android port or eventually wm7 port(hopefully) but its fundamental o/s is pretty dire without the enhancements ie battery life and frezzing up ..your stated you been using windows o/s so in a way you know what to expect from a windows phone i havnt tried the desire but reviews are pretty sound..played with the sgs very briefly thought android alot smoother, i love the voice recognition aspect of it eg on goggle if you speak to it, it will fill in the google search field for you, i was impressed! personally i would hold on until the rumoured hd3 or hd7 comes out this year
I think you should buy a cheap replacement at for now. Since WP7 I think will be released soon(I hope), you can wait for it. Anyway in case you won't like WP7, you can still get the HD2(over SGS and Desire) and I think it will be lot cheaper but great overall.
I bought HD2 some time before Desire release.. I also was stuck a long time don't know if to wait or buy.. Then I sold it while Galaxy S hit the store cause I got good money for it.. Then I had the chance, Galaxy S or HD2 again.. I bought HD2 again and didn't regret it..
If I look at the price and the possibilities the HD2 is the winner for me.. Also the quality and display is really good.. Android for me is ready for daily use (Bangster 1.2A Build), no need for NAND atm love the possibility switch between WinMo and Android.. WP7 is coming for shure and Ubuntu also =) But if you don't want to change OS then buy Android phone, I came from Palm to Windows Mobile years ago but I never got an experience like Android, best usability you can get in my opinion..
Only advantage I see with Samsung is the better GPU, but in Quadrant benchmark I get a much higher CPU score, so don't know which is better.. NFS Shift runs smooth though =)
I have to agree with the last 2 posts, came from a Mytouch andriod phone to the HD2. If it wasn't for the fact that I can sync up my calander and contacts from my outlook, this phone would be have been sold 1 day after I bought it. 3 apps on the crappy windows market also make the phone ok. Being able to put different roms helps, but it really only changes screens around, it still runs on crappy windows
But if I had my choice I would have stayed with my Mytouch and spent $275 on a newer andriod phone then this POS.
Great replies. I've decided to go for Samsung Galaxy S. Cheers~
