External Keyboard for wm2003

Dear,
My external keyboard driver for the OEM 02 XDA external keyboard has ceased to work with my newly installed ROM 4.00.05 (i.e.the Keyboard connection mode always switch back to Infrared connection Mode). Anyone who how to activate the external keyboard? please suggest! Thanks in advance
Try going into Start->Settings->Connections->Beam and unchecking "Receive all incoming beams". This will stop the device holding open the COM port, and should release it for the keyboard driver.
hope this helps
Dear,
Thousand thanks, it works very well now

IR connectivity problem

After upgrading to ROMKitchen 3.17, the infrared port has stopped working. It does not send or receive anything. Why could it happen? It was working very well before upgrading. If any application that involves IR, that is beam file, ActiveSync by IR causes the XDA to hang. IR Receive gives message "Unable to establish an infrared connection while mobile device is connected to the desktop"
"Unable to establish an infrared connection while mobile device is connected to the desktop"

Dear,
I had a similar problem once and for long until I realized that some of my other softwares were interfering with the IR Port. If you have any software that requires all-time active connectivity status of any kind (i.e. keyboard driver), disable it before using the infrared.

Dear Ken,
I guess that is where I went wrong! There was a foldable keyboard software that was creating problem!
Thanks
I have similar problem with AT&T PPC2002 (XDA developers Special Edition ROM v1.2). The phone was bought with this ROM, so I didn’t try with other versions.
When I run ‘infrared receive’ application or try to beam any file my phone simply hung till I soft-reset it. It may be the conflict with other programs but I not sure. How to check who else uses IRDA and how to remove those programs/conflicts?
Help please and thanks in advance
Please tell me how did you end the problem because it seems that i have the same thing with my XDA II
I wish I could end up with this problem... but I still not. It does not vitally critical since I don’t need IRDA functionality so far. But having feature (IRDA) and knowing it does not work for unknown reason driving me mad. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DO.

Beam file from XDA to XDA

Can somebody tell me how to beam a Word file from one XDA to another XDA? I have set all settings on both device correctly. However, nothing happens. The sender just shows a screen were it says that I have to align ports, which I do ofcourse. Please help
Goto Start, File Explorer, open My Documents and tap&hold on the file you
want to beam and select Beam File.
If the receiving party has "Receive all incoming beams" turned off under Start, Settings, Connections, they'll have to use the "Receive an infrared beam" under "Programs".

Thanks, but your suggested procedure I have already tried. I have tried all possible possible combinations. Nothing works. Also when I activate "Receive an infrared beam" the receiving XDA doesn't give any reply. It is almost if a XDA can't send to another XDA; if the IR doesn't work at all. I still hope somebody explain the trick to me. It is important for me to know how it works.
does the infrared works with other devices like a laptop or a pc with a usb->infrared ?
somebody said at once point that hvaing stuff connected like a keyboard would disable infrared support
That's right. The Keyboard driver seems to disable the IR port. Uninstall the driver and it should work.
I haven't installed a keyboard. So there is nothing to uninstall. Or do you refer to the preinstalled standard keyboards? They are in ROM so I can't unistall them. Is there another trick?
Thanks
If you installed the folding keyboard driver from the kitchen rom, it will initialise every boot and grab the com 1 port, I know because I couldnt get my gps working even with the beams setting turned off, however you can disable the driver, bearing in mind it will initialise again after a reset. I cant remember where to do this as I got rid 2003 and the problem was when I had it installed, I am pretty sure the option is there somewhere to disable it.

Problem with COM1 port

I have a big problem. I need conect my XDA with GPS. My ROM is 4.01.16 US. But when I start my GPS program, I see mesage, that COM1 port is in use by another application. If I reset my XDA problem is same. Under PPC 2002 (ROM O2) it worked without problem. But I would like use this under WM 2003. Can you help me, please ???

Uncheck the receive all incoming beams, that will release com1 for the other application.

I remember something about disabling IR beams, but i thought this was solved in Himalaya.
Anyway try this :
Start/settings/Connections/ Beam/ uncheck "Receive all incoming Beams."
