Hi guys
I've been facing since I bought my HTC Athena irregular freeze everyday.
I upgraded the Device to WM6 the next day I received it, it went very soomth with my applications installed.
However, the freeze appear very randomly, it could be while launching a new program, or playing backgammon, sometimes after device wake up, also once when received an SMS.
A very weird behavior also, is that sometimes I need to soft-reset 3/4 times in a row to get passed the HTC and the Windows Mobile splash screen.
For info, the soft-reset is not necessarly done after a freeze ....
I decided to start this new topic in order to see if other people are facing same symptoms on their Athena, and to share our experience together.

Sorry no such problems here, but did you run Olipro's SPL patcher/Unlocker before flashing thee ROM? I know tupsindin released a few WM6 ROMs a while ago that could be flashed without CID unlocking your X7500, but Olipro's Unlocker will make your device unbrickable.
If you have already done this, try flashing the new WM6 Dopod U1000 ROM seems very stable to me with no issues so far and slightly snappier than the other WM6 ROMs.

I did unlock it via the UK website I found on XDA forum, sorry but can't remember the name (soemthing IMEI), so I did that then flashed with the WM6 ROM ver 2.20.405.1

what is really annoying is that I need to do 4/5 soft reset very ofently in order to pass by the HTC/Windows Mobile splash screen
I just bought my HTC Advantage X7500 with WM6 already installed and I have lock up issues if I have auto shutoff enabled it will not start backup after a auto shut off I keep using the reset to get it back up. When it is up I just disabled the auto shut off and now have no problems.
Im not having same pb as you, but I saw on one thread on XDA forums that people having that problem fixed it by assigning a the turn on/off device to a hardware button. and apparently it fixed their problem.
Try that and it must fix it for you

Hi,
I have encountered in the past this problem, and I observed that it was happening after I installed HTC X-Button v1.5, and it was even worse after HTC X-Button v1.51.
Later on, a new version was published, and it works flawlessly since. The exact file is HTC X-Button v1.51 build 30229.

For now, I found an alternative with Running Pocket Hack Master at 663 Mhz, and I modified the sequence for startup processes using SKTools putting Pocket Hack Master as #1 in the order, Wisbar Advance 3 as #2, SPB Diary as the last one and Norton Antivirus just before the last one.
I noticed that SPB Diary is slowing down a bit my device, and specially after a reset, this is because I created custom tab adding plugins inside this tab such Phone Alarm, SPB Weather and Resco Explorer Plugin ...
I tried many config, and found out this one works the best for me, the device is resetting with less then 30 sec without any hanging anymore.

Really interesting comment. I have original WM5 configured UK Ameo and have always experienced random crashes. After reading this, I looked again at my settings and found the X-button configured - I don't need it as I use the same functionality from Wisbar. Turned it off and it hasn't crashed since.

Don't know if this will help...
Even since before I have upgraded to WM6 I have had problems similar to yours. At the time I had WA3 and WAD installed as well as Spb Weather, Spb Diary and certain parts of Pocketplus. I did a trail and removed all software from Spb and Wisbar and everything worked perfectly. In the meantime I have now only added Spb Mobile Suite and use iLauncher on my today screen together with the plugin from Resco Explorer - no more problems!
It seems to me that some of the above software have compatibilty issues with the U1000/Athena/Ameo (whether wm2005 or wm6 makes a difference I don't know).

Thks Superdawie for your reply, you are right, I was suspecting Wisbar, SPB Diary abd phoneAlarm to be the origin of my problems.
But as I said previously, I found a workaround to make the Athena runs ok by playing with the order of startup programs. It's been more then one week without any freeze

Same for me, working well on WM6 since I turned X-Button 1.51 off.
In WM5 I had this problem all the time as WM5 totally sucks!
In WM6 I only experienced this problem when programs "collided" due to timing issues as you've found out. By changing the load order or timing of some applications (some programs have it built right in like SmallMenu....it's resolved all of my lock up issues, etc. Most of the problems can be resolved by playing around with the software you have loaded, as you found out. Not sure if it's because of a crappy OS or because of crappy coding by the developers of the software we're installing...maybe both.
can anyone please give me boy kind of suggestionas to why my device constantly freezes? even after a fresh flash and not installing any other programs the phone is SUPER slow and takes minutes to open even the simplist windows like messaging then eventually completely freezes. using dcds 3.2.6 thank you if can help at all.
any more info? what programs are you installing, when is it freezing, etc.

if its acting like that on directly after flashing without any added OEM's, then it is most definitely not dcd's work. try hard resetting.
I'm having similar issues now...ever since the time changed my phone has been acting very odd...i havent hard reset in about 2 months but its been constantly freezing bad, takes about 20 minutes just to enter my text messages and after each reset i keep getting the same txts marked as unread...another thing i notice is that my htchome won't update no more, say if i reset my phone at 10:10pm the clock wont change! my taskbar clock however reads the right time, for example it says its 10:42pm right now way up top, however on my today screen it htchome still says its 10:10pm???!?!wtf? weathers not working and it says i have 12 unread emails, but i don't think it has synced since my phone started freezing up and acting up a few days ago, i try to manually sync my mail and nothing...i was hoping dcd would come out with version 3.3.x or something by the time i wrote this so i can cook a newer rom and see if it rids my problems but i guess not yet...or ever...

Everytime i start up my phone i get a services.exe error report. I googled the problem and found that on a pc this is normally a malware virus!
Will this be the case for my phone? Do i have a virus?
If so how do i get rid of it, please help!

No i dont have g-profile installed, why would this cause the problem or is it a possible fix?
Some members in a french forum have the same bug, it appear it's hd2tweaks who is in cause ...

I have just gotten this problem and are wondering if this applies to the metal detector as well? I don't use g-profile so...
Will try to uninstall the metal detector now and see if the problem goes away...
I too have this problem - had it for a few weeks now but not a major issue as I don't often reboot phone, but frustrating when I do.
I had the metal detector app and BsB Tweaks installed before this started to happen, so don;t think it could be them. I did install G-alarm from ageye a while back, but I have no deleted this too as it expired - maybe this could have caused it?

I have g-profile installed and get this every time i reboot the phone. Why does it appear when g-profile is installed and what does it mean/do??

@bluearmyb, which device do you have? T-Mobile US, or one of the European versions? I have the T-Mobile US HD2, and I started to get this same error soon after I started using it. I looked at the detail, and it looked like coredll.dll was the culprit. I tried removing apps and nothing seemed to fix it. I was using the stock T-Mobile US ROM.
I tried to find a pattern and the only one I found was that it would start occurring after I installed a large number of apps, in any order. I tried installing mods, then games, then other apps, and every variation thereof. I would hard reset, start installing, and rebooting after EVERY installation. It occurred for different apps at different times, but always after I installed a lot of them.
I have since installed HSPL2-1024, and have installed several ROMS. I'm currently using Miri's Elegancia colored by Steve0007. It has been flawless thus far, and I have installed all my apps. I have not received the error even once, so I'm not sure it's related to any particular app.
By the way, I think, THINK, that coredll.dll is part of the .NET Compact Framework.
I would like to know if there has been anyone, receiving this error on reboots, who is using a cooked ROM.
Not much help but maybe it can assist in identifying a pattern.

I thought I would add what happened to me today:
I have been getting the "services.exe/coredll.dll" error message on boot-up after installing about 15 or more games simultaneously (without soft resetting each time). This error occurred right after I finally did a soft reset... and had been happening for the past 3 or 4 days.
As I installed more and more stuff to my memory card (16 Gig - Class 2 from my T-Mobile package - USA), I noticed that my HD2's screen response was pausing very slightly. Since I have an 8 Gig micro-SD Class 4 in my now retired HTC Kaiser, I decided to transfer all my stuff from the 16 Gig to 8 Gig (minus the Transformer movies). After the transfer, I still had 4 Gigs free, with a TomTom 2 Gig map installed).
Well guess what? not only is screen response as fast as it was out-of-the-box, BUT THERE IS NO LONGER THAT ANNOYING ERROR MESSAGE UPON BOOT UP.
I am now wondering if the error message I was getting might have been due to the HD2 not being able to read a needed file or files during boot-up and gave that error, due to the slower class 2 speed, or maybe due to files becoming fragmented on said SD card?... I'm not sure what it was, but it solved my problem.
If any of you still have this problem, it might be worth a try.
I am going to order a 16 Gig class 6 in the next 2 weeks, after giving this 8 Gig'er a good whirl.... I'll check back in, if this error rears its ugly head again.
By the way, I have a stock ROM, straight from T-Mobile USA.

I installed Chainfire-HD2-3D-Driver-Patch-2.0.cab, resetted, Chainfire-TG01-D3DM.cab resetted. Everything looked ok. Proceeded and installed BsB Tweaks v1.6 and since it did not asked for reset (big mistake for being lazy, should have known better to be safe), I installed HD2Tweak v1.2.0 then resetted and started having the coredll.dll/services error. At first I thought it may be due to CHT which I initially had problem days before with Sense failing to load after failing to cleanly uninstall v1.7.0. but solved it by installing v1.7.1. So I reinstalled v1.7.1. Didn't help. Then I found your post and uninstalled HD2Tweak. Problem gone. I figured perhaps I should try again. This time no error after reset. But when I did a shutdown, my HD2 couldn't power up, even the red button reset failed. Fortunately, pulling out the battery did the trick. Now monitoring for futher issues.

I got this error when I installed the 3d - driver patch for the leo. I am using a t mobile us phone with the stock rom on it. I just installed the driver and the error went away
Same with me - it seems to be the TG1 3d Patch from Chainfire - as soon as I uninstalled it the problem was gone. So far...
after reading your posts ,i want to share my experience with services.exe ,from what i have seen sometimes when i install apps that are for hd2 i get the services.exe report,but if i uninstall whatever installed before the repot than the
report is gone,i think services.exe is just an incompatibility report
I had the services.exe error too when restarting my device. Since I saw metal detector mentioned here I uninstalled it and the problem seems to be solved now.

just uninstall the latest program that you installed 1 by 1 and test it out.

i have then found in another thread a new swish htc keyboard for myself. i have installed the cab file and let the handset reboot but once passed the initial toshiba boot up screen the tg01 then black screens instead of showing the windows mobile start up screen.There is deffinately some sort of backlight there, just not very strong.
also i cannot seem to connect my phone back up to my laptop now?
i would try a hard reset but since my old rom the camera button has not worked
please help!

Is there a red light on top when you restart you phone i.e. after removing and attaching the battery again?
You could also try the short pin method if there is red light on top. Short pin method should definitely work, but it's worth having a look around in few 'sticky'ed threads in the forum there are plenty of solutions. Don't loose hope just yet, try few things, you can't make you phone any worse than what it is right now.

Had this problem a while back... I had to hard reset after installing some HTC OEM Keyboard. Use the Pin Method to flash another rom. Sometimes in some roms the camera button doesnt work in WM, but the physical button actually works.. I managed to hard reset from Aragons 6.5 + Sense ROM with the camera button in the past..

i proceeded to try and install the keyboard .cab again but was greeted with the same response of the tg01 not working, so ive sorted it again, i was just wondering if any of you guys knew a good keyboard that i could use?? the sense keyboard is nice but when i turn to landscape its absolutely useless.
also bieng knew, now that ive had the responses i needed could you advise me on whether i just leave the thread or ask a mod to close it?

I have a keyboard cab attached in links in my signature - click on DruROM1, DruROM2 - they have a nice colourful keyboard - no problems at all!
it's called 'finger keyboard' developed here at XDA, free and colourful - I think comes in about 12 different colour combinations! and at least 15 different languages too!! Give it a go and let me know if you like it
No need to close this thread, as in case someone else in future has same problem as yours, they might be able to write back to us if it doesn't work for them
However, if mods don't like it, they will close it any way

Mine is bricked too.I try first time when it have the little light the pin metod didn't work but with tg downloader it works and write to 100% the restart but didn't restart it stays power off then i disconnect it and try to power on but turn only the green light and vibrate then goes off.On the second try to see my phone with tg downloader i must do the pin try without the memory card and then connect to the notebook it saw my phone and again write to 100% but didn't restart and the same after i disconect it only green light and vibrate.I do this about 3 times but the same i try first the official orange ro and then official orange uk but the same.
do you have any other suggestions drupad2drupad?
i installed the .cab and it is a very nice keyboard actually but im getting a line about 2mm above the keyboard that still has the screen before frozen on, the rest of the screens fine though.the only other thing that is putting me off is having to close the keyboard to send a message :/

have you tried the 'unbrick' method that is in stick'ed thread? does it respond to that?
Don't worry yet - your phone is NOT bricked completely. There are good chances you can get it back. Just make sure you don't try anything that will brick it totally. When you stop getting lights on/vibration and only faint white light- that is when it's completely bricked. So go slow, try what is said on stickied thread in the forum step by step - MAKE SURE YOU CHARGE YOUR BATTERY 100% if NOT, the you will definitely end up bricking your phone!!! Please charge your phone for few hours if needed first!

Shouldn't ideally do that. But anyways, I have attached another keyboard Give it a go...
For trying different things - you could test different UIs - in my signature click on UI and you will find different TG01 UIs that users at XDA use!
You could definitely test my new ROMs! - have 4 of them - will keep you occupied for a bit... Please make sure you have fully charged battery and you know exactly how to flash a rom. Don't brick your phone! No one has bricked it using my roms as such but please dont be the first one!
There are plenty of ROMs to try from - thread 1 stickied in the forum has a whole big table of roms..

any yeah battery 100!%, to execute the .enc file i use sddl+ instead of the other people mention
would that be a problem? and where would i find these new roms of yours? haha

not .enc - .tsw in your PRG folder.
my roms are in my signature - DruROM1 to 4.
Landscape doesnt work well in htc keyboard, because it is 2.0. the new update 2.1 solves the landscape issue. i have the cab for that, but can't remeber where i got it from. this wont brick your device. try a search on the acer forum for brainmasters htc keyboard 2.1

in SENSE Roms is most the htc keyboard installd. when you install a other relase= your tg01 will not boot. only helps a hard reset. before you install a new htc keyboard install Default InputMethod (select your default Keyboard when WinMo starts)
and select toshiba or microsoft keyboard as standard. now you can install the new htc keyboard and tg01 boot normally!

ahhhh ive always renamed it as .enc from .tsw with no problems but for your roms ill use .tsw

Dude, instead of creating yet another post with this, you could have searched to quite easily find out your phone is halfway dead and should be sent back to samsung for repair as soon as possible. Make it safe to return if you messed with it (flash original stuff, reset counter, etc, read a bit if you don't know what to do, it's all over these forums) and just take it in.
Don't take this the wrong way but you'd think it's common sense to just return any product (not even phone related) that it's malfunctioning instead of asking what to do to random people in a third party forum

use the sds safe précautions to prevent freezing

I have the same problem, this seems to be firmware related to me, the phone works in safe mode but this is really crappy now. I don't think there should be a return unless it's the only fix.Will try and flash JB and update the post.
Edit: Is that sds the Sudden death thing. I tried searching but no results come up. I am a new comer to Samsung as their devices sucked for ages and they still seem to do. Please can some one advise us(the op and myself and future people with this problem) on what is the main cause of this issue that a hard reset fixes it. But for my device,it doesn't die it stops functioning.
This is how I get this problem, my phone is rooted, but it runs fine only when there is a app crash the phone locks up and thats it.
what i tried: I tried to back up my data so i could save myself from reinstalling all my app. I hard reseted the phone and the phone functioned again
but after restoring my data the phone locks up again. Now my phone works about 5sec from normal boot but then locks up. It works fine in safe mode. So really where is issue? Is an app is making the whole OS to jam there has to be a simple fix for this.
Please don't say return the device, thats the dumbest thing to ever say. We want to over come the problem not ignore it/get rid of it.

Well. I reverted back to 4.1.1 and no more random reboots or freezes. It was definitely ROM issue.
Any one tried new EMA2 rom? If yes, still freezing?

Mine was freezing constantly with MA1 and MA2 until I did what I posted above.
Now already 2 days without freezes.

Same problems here. Not sure about rooting. If I change the csc code and download the latest, say German update. would that change the rom and fix it ?

Same problems here. Not sure about rooting. If I change the csc code and download the latest, say German update. would that change the rom and fix it ?

I was getting similar behaviour too. Phone would freeze after making calls, sending msgs, using facebook, searching on google, basically random points anywhere. Went through uninstalling apps, did a factory reset, and through some trial and error finally pinned down where my problem was at least. It was caused by the latest version of MixZing. Was crashing before frequently, and after uninstalling it I've been using my phone fine all day with no crashes at all. Still potentially early days, but if I don't report back then that solved it for me.
A simple solution
ok guys.. this is something i tried and has been working for me for more than two days now:
the problem seems to be in the download manager included in the new android software so what you simply have to do is to disable this application whenever you're not using it.. you can do so in the settings>> applications manager>> view ALL>> select DOWNLOAD MANAGER and DISABLE..
of course this will stop the play store from functionning and will stop any automatic updates but will prevent the phone sudden death...
All you have to do when you want to download any new apps or update existing ones is to enable the download manager and i suggest before doing that to clear the RAM memory and try to be gentle and patient with the phone...
Just keep working like that till ANDROID finds a solution in the next update and your phone will be fine.. in the end its better than killing the machine with every freeze.
Remember to be patient and work slowly when the download manager is enabled

My first post here. Thanks for this tip. My phone was freezing every 3 minutes and so I did what you suggested after all other suggestions (except rooting - as I was worried I might brick the phone if it froze while rooting) didn't work. Anyway, just a few seconds after I hit "DISABLE", my phone froze! So I thought it's probably not working, but since the reboot, it hasn't crashed. Thanks!:good:

the same thing is happening to me and i have no clue why its happening it just like 3-4days ago but i have installed only clash of clans and clash royale in my phone. he most interesting thing is that all your phone feature will work but the screen will not for almost 20-30mins then it will recover on its own. all the call features are working well but no response from phone. my conclusion is this phone is totally a mess and i dont even know how i managed t use this device for 4years! it got super laggy after 6-7 months of use. Whatever i went to the service centre and they told that i need to change the motherboard of my s3 costing 130$.
