8125(G3) Upgrade Success; 8525(?) need more info... - G4

I have been wanting to unlock/upgrade my 8125(G3) for awhile finally I got the time to try (just in case something went wrong). After reading previous posts everything went well. I am now running WM5 w/Touch Flo many thanks to the dev.
The 8525 I am working on now this i have a few questions on:
1.) The screen flashes to fast on reboot to see what the SPL/IPL is so do I
assume this is a G4? If not how do I find this info?
2.) Just for educational sake I attempted to use sSPL that was supplied w/
the WM5 (touchflo) rom (G4 Safe) on the 8525; The instructions say
sometimes it doesnt go to white screen so you can begin flashing just
close everything out and try again; I tried around 10 or so times...
3.) Some of the post in these forums are just amazing props goes out to
this whole community; however most if not all use terms that I can only
guess at by the sentence the are in so if anyone could help out it would
be great.
I get the concept of flashing the G4 with tricking the phone into thinking its CID unlocked and all i think i'm just missing something... any help would be appreiciated TIA

If I am not mistaken you better have a look here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
The Hermes-forum would be more appropriate for your questions ...

Thanks for the reply, what was throwing me off was the fact that under "Hermes" the '8525' is not listed w/ the other phones. I figured this would be one of the more popular phones since it is the 8125 replacement @ our At&t store.
After posting the first post I did some reading and I think I've got everything I need. The HardSPL seems to be the way to go, and the software that does a check to make sure its a G4 before proceeding is awesome! Thanks for the help, thanks to all the developers here in this forum as well.

Flashing for a Newbie

Hey there, I've been anxious to flash my xv6800. I've been reading and searching extensively in the forums and FAQs and the Wiki (I don't usually post until my frustration is out of control). I've found some useful info here:
How-to for Wizard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
but didn't see the G3/G4 designation on my splash screen (dead end)
How do I go about flashing to a DCD rom (or any custom rom for that matter)? Is there software I need to install on my comp and are there any steps specific to the xv6800 verizon firmware?
I would really appreciate any help. Thanks
I'm in a similar situation to you. I found this helpful guide the wiki here and it got me started. I also posted a similar plea on the DCD's Titan Rom thread so see if a response turns up there. Good luck and PM me if you find anything helpful. The title of your thread makes it a good place to post for the likes of us.
edit: I bet if this was made a sticky and some informed people posted some helpful info, us noobs would stay out of other threads asking for answers. (sound of kitten stuck in tree)
i need help too
well i got impatient and just downloaded dcd 1.6.10 and just clicked on the .exe without doing anything else. its currently doing its thing, hope it works!
You so crazy! I hope that works, but I have my doubts. The version you're referring to, 1.6.10, is for DCD's Titan kitchen. AFAIK, the kitchen's for cooking your own rom. Cooking is different from flashing as far as I can tell. I think you'll now find that you're ready to make your own rom on your PC, but that still leaves us unsure of how to prepare for and execute the actual rom replacement on the Titan. Right, wrong, Bueller?
it didnt work. it was stuck at 0% forever and then gave an error. i took the battery out and back in and am back to how i was before. no brick
i think i need some sort of bootloader. "re-locker" ? i cant find this when searching.
i thought dcd 1.6.10 is a rom for everyone, and kitchen is for those who want to make their own roms? im so confused.

I tried to load dcd's and the official rom and the same thing happens to me, stuck at 0% then connection error.
Been trying to get some info from ppcgeeks.com but the forum has been down since yesterday.
What are we doing wrong?
Throw you a bone
OK, you guys sound real clueless (actually only a little more clueless than me!) so I'll help out. The ROM by itself is all ready to flash to your phone, like reinstalling a new operating system on your PC. The kitchen can be used to customize your own ROM, but I'd suggest you guys read up a bit more before going here. The garden variety ROMs that DCD and others provide is fine for now.
There are utilities on this forum to get you out of the bootloader screen if you get stuck (heppened to me last night). Search around a bit, and certainly read up a bit before flashing. These things are real complicated, but it takes a bit of understanding because the steps MUST be done in the right order, and many impatient folks dive in and get screwed, then complaign to the folks who gave them the files to begin with!

Maybe ur misunderstanding what's happening.
Whenever I try to flash the device Windows Mobile Device Center closes both the screen on my Mogul and the window on the host pc never moves from 0%
Hope that helps
OK - I'm new to this also but have a question. I know data is lost so does that mean I need to re-establish all my email accounts and contact lists? I installed the cab to allow you-tube and bluetooth data to my tomtom. Also the Touch commander. Is all that gone and I have to redo that as well? Is there a suggested utility to back up as much as possible to restore? I sync with my company email via exchage. Right now everything is basically working fine so hate to take a chance.

Windows Mobile 6.1 to 05

I have some questions, and yes, I am slightly new to the HTC Hermes, so cut me alittle slack.
I have purchased a unlocked AT&T 8525(herm100), with a cooked rom for WM6.1. While it looks great, it seems to make the phone function slower, compared to the one I used with WM05 on it.
I would really like to make the device operate and respond much like WM05 did. Is this at all possible with WM6 or 6.1? Or would I be better off going back to WM05(if thats possible now)? If I should need to go back to WM05, is it possible to cook a rom, and remove and add things that I would want?
Throw me some Idea's here, I'm open to anything.
if you want fast just get a superstorage rom, those roms are faster than the original WM5 shipping rom
superstorage rom? Do explain please. Is it WM6.1? Where would I get it? is it hosted on the FTP? Also, could you point me in the direction for instructions on how to flash the device?
Do a search for hermes roms. There are a lot of good roms from faria, pays, schapps, tnt, PDAViet...... The list goes on..... They range from wm06 to wm6.1. I'm using Pdaviet 6.1 version 19213. It was just release but is REALLY quick. I suggest you read the threads to determine which is good for you as it is as personel a choice as what clothes you like...
As for how to upgrade, !st do some reading... It's recommended to flash Hard SPL onto your phone as it makes it easier to recover IF/WHEN something goes wrong. Check out this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Also, use the search function to find out "how to upgrade rom". There are some good tutorials by MrVanx and a lot of information on the wiki..
PLEAE READ A BIT BEFORE FLASHING... and make sure you only use a hermes rom.
Happy Flashing & welcome....
One more question. By flashing this, will it stay unlocked? and i keep seeing HTC TyTN(Herm627) for the roms for PDAviet. same with others, is this the one im wanting?

yup, flashing wont change your unlock status
Herm 100 - aka 8525, jasjam, tytn, vario II...... all these are hermes... As long as you pick a HERMES rom you'll be okay. Cheers...
I just found out the firmware ID that is already on my phone.
ROM version: Faria.R-32
ROM date: 11/6/07
Radio version: 1.54.07.00
Protocol ver.: 32.86u.7020.23H
ExtROM ver.: BIGSTORAGE
This firmware just seems really slow. Im looking at trying one of these listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380433
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364031
Obviously this is a cooked rom. I don't know how it was flashed, and it may have HardSPL on it already. Will it harm anything if I install HardSPL 2.10 to my phone?
I've also read somewhere that the 1.47 radio firmware has better connectivity and battery life. Is this true, and would it increase my signal any? I get little to no signal in my house, but my wife's Razr gets 2-3 bars constantly, and we both have T-Mobile.
1st, go to bootloader(hold down power button, OK button above flywheel and then use stylus to soft reset. keep all three buttons pushed in until the tricolour screen comes up.) This will tell you IPL & SPL.
Pays is very good if a little older now and s64's rom is also good (but packed with 3rd party apps that SLOWWWEEED things down a bit to much for my liking).
Both good.
The rom you are using now is a bit newer. It should be fairly good too. I personally prefer PDAViets roms which are REALLY fast and pretty stable(ver 129400, 129701, 129900 and 129213.). Its really up to you though as your preferences may be at odds with mine.
As for the radio rom, This is the most "dangerous" part of the firmware flash with most bricks happening because of problems happening while being flashed. If you want to go ahead and flash this make sure its not gonna be a repeat performance. Find out what radio works best in your area & flash once. I would SERIOUSLY recommend the sd method to flash this. Read up on this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462
Cheers...

At the risk of blowing my own horn, try my ROMs out. You can chose between bleeding edge (the development thread) or tried and tested (the stable thread).
They both come with minimal applications to be like a usable phone, but giving you the flexibility to do whatever you want with the device afterwards.
nice. looks like its
Code:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro
I do have one more question. I downloaded PAYS rom. It came with an EXE(RUUWrapper.exe and RUU_signed.nbh), it looks exactly like the HardSPL, do I just run that and it flash it? Or do I still have to go through all the other steps on the Wiki page for flashing the Hermes?
After installing HardSPL, connect your device up with ActiveSync, then run RUU_Wrapper.exe.
Follow the prompts.
CRC's are good... Like them....
According to you information about the bootloader it seems you are already set to push any Hermes ROM in your device

Need a bit of help...

Hey, I'm a long time spyer on these forums and am in a lot of trouble. I just got my Bell PPC-6800 replaced (bad keyboard), and absolutely been unable to put a custom ROM on the device. I have tried pretty much everything, using Titan Unlocker, Hard SPL, kitchens and generic ROMs, and the ONLY thing I can get working is the stock ROM again. I had no issues at all when doing the upgrade the first time with my original phone, but with this one I can't get it working.
Right now, it sticks at the Bell blue logo screen and in red where it normally has the version info it says "NO RADIO".
Please any help would be much appreciated!
im assuming you didnt miss the obvous step of flashing a compatible radio rom in addition to the roms you mentioned, right?
if not, see the sticky at the top of the forum.
Yes, I am a huge moron. I read through that exact sticky 2 or 3 times and just assumed that I did the radio flash.
Working now, thanks a lot for the help lol ... maybe I'll stick with spying

Series of Unfortunate upgrades... - P4000

Great and wonderful gurus...I think I dug myself into it. I was hoping my first post here would one with better news...but alas I am calling on your help.
I own a Telus P4000 (TITA100) and was keen on trying out dcd's new ROM. I did the following in the following order and now I have some unfortunate results.
1. Upgraded bootloader to 2.40 using USB instructions here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanRecentHome
2. Thought 'what the heck' and tried upgrading to bootloader 2.47 using the microSD instructions at the same address.
3. Upgraded the Radio to 3.42.50.
4. A reboot brought me to the Telus screen so I thought I had done something wrong.
5. I reverted back to Radio version 1.40
6. I reverted the bootloader to 2.07 using the instructions here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanStockHome
7. I reflashed the stock Telus ROM.
8. Results are now that I cannot make any outgoing calls or data connections
(automated voice says I need to activate my phone) and my power key does not turn the device back on once it goes into 'hibernate' mode.
I am really hoping someone can help me out. I've been searching for hours to find the original Radio (1.32) and the original bootloader (1.04) so I can put things back to the way they were but I can't find anything.
Any help is well appreciated,
Ry
PS - Update - I tried the other method of reverting back to stock (via USB) and now the bootloader is 1.04 and the Radio is 1.32. BIG Steps in the right direction....
Okay...so most of the issues seem to have been resolved and I'll call Telus to re-activate my phone tomorrow but there is one remaining question:
Did I do anything wrong here and how can I continue on my quest to give this another whirl?
(I debated not posting at all...but I figure my conundrums may help someone else later)

Keep in mind, at least on Verizon, when upgrading your radio from a non-GPS radio to a GPS radio, the phone will require re-authentication. The A-Key will have to be given by your provider. When I called, I basically told them I had to do a hard reset. The tech on the other end said that every time I do a hard reset, I need a new A-key. NOT!(idiot)...

Actually, I've only needed a new A-Key once, and that was when I hard reset my device. However, when I got my phone, I upgraded the stuff before activating.
So yes, hard-resetting does (sometimes/always?) causes you to need a new A-Key.
And even then, I didn't call in; I did the whole online "activate another phone, then reactivate the 6800" trick to avoid dealing with terrible CS

I don't know if this A-key thing is true anymore. On my original phone I had to do an A-Key update twice. And both times was when I upgraded the Radio. After a while I stopped having to do them.
Yesterday I got a replacement 6800 (old one had bad charging port). I activated it got it working, and immediately put on SPL 2.47, radio 3.5.42 and DCD 3.2.5 (in that order)
I DID NOT have to call verizon for an A-key update.

Also take a look at some P4000 instructions I posted here.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1413430&page=1&pp=15
I have never had a problem flashing my P4000 except for when I used a Sprint ROM to get an updated radio and let the customizations run. This made it so that I could not send text messages but everything else worked fine.
Here's how I fixed it:
- used the relocker to relock the phone and restore the original bootloader
- flash with stock Telus ROM
- change to 2.40 bootloader
- flash radio (didn't use the Sprint ROM this time, used SD card method instead)
- flash DCD ROM
- run Telus carrier cab
Since then I have updated to 2.47 bootloader, updated to DCD3.2.5, went to a lower version of the radio because I was having signal issues, and then just recently went to the latest radio version. I haven't had any problems other than that one I just mentioned above.
Even when you flash with DCD's ROMs the Telus splash screen will still come up as this is not overwritten by the ROM. This will only change if you use a flasher to change it or flash with another carrier's ROM (like Sprint for example).
Without a major scew-up, you should not have had to activate your phone on Telus after unlocking and a ROM update. I've never such an issue nor anyone else I know.
1. Upgraded bootloader to 2.40 using USB instructions here:

Inescabl, in all of those steps you failed to say when and where you upgraded to a third party ROM.... Within the first two I already see a point of concern where you stated you unlocked to 2.40 and then your next step being, ''what the heck' and tried upgrading to bootloader 2.47 using the microSD instructions. How did you get into the OS? Were you still on the stock radio and ROM?? You then stated that you flashed to the latest radio, but of course a reboot would only bring you to be stuck on the Telus screen if you'd not bothered to also flash to an appropriate ROM.
From what you've described, you decided to go a bit your own way, and did not pay close enough attention to the stated steps and problem solving that I wrote in the Wiki.
I'm glad that it all worked out for you, but this should be a warning to others to not rush into things without first being clear upon what the Wiki's guides and troubleshooting offer.
Keystone,
Correct. I should have used the phrase 'reprogram' by dialing *22803 for Telus users after you reflash your phone. 'Re-activate' was the wrong term.
Second, you are also correct in that my steps failed to say that I upgraded to a third party ROM and that was what I missed. On my second attempt I did upgrade to the third party ROM and all systems are now 'go'.
Third, when I said 'what the heck' I meant that since I had successfully upgraded the bootloader to 2.40 using USB I thought I'd try upgrading to 2.47 using the MicroSD method. You don't need to go into the OS to do that but merely need to get back into the bootloader screen by pressing POWER-CAMERA-SOFT RESET.
The difficulty I had resulted from the fact that the wiki is not clear that in order to install the latest ROM you need to be connected to the phone via USB and on the bootloader screen on your phone. This is where I was slightly confused and didn't understand where to go next. Perhaps you could update your instructions a little? It's funny how one person can read something and think one thing and another can read it and not see what you were thinking!
One final note. With respect to these statement: "You then stated that you flashed to the latest radio, but of course a reboot would only bring you to be stuck on the Telus screen if you'd not bothered to also flash to an appropriate ROM.From what you've described, you decided to go a bit your own way, and did not pay close enough attention to the stated steps and problem solving that I wrote in the Wiki.I'm glad that it all worked out for you, but this should be a warning to others to not rush into things without first being clear upon what the Wiki's guides and troubleshooting offer.
Though I appreciate your response I didn't really care for this final note where you took the opportunity to jab at my personal character. I did take the time and did pay attention and did not 'go my own way'. There was just that one step that I mentioned that was confusing. My post was not a personal affront to your wiki and I do appreciate it as do many others. Instead this is perhaps an opportunity to make your wiki even better!
Thanks,
Ry

I was not sure what you had presented in the OP and was trying to clarify what had occurred to cause your problems. In many such threads newer people will read and get confused, and that is why I prefer to get to the bottom and then use that information to help prevent such mishaps occurring again. As what I concluded was apparently spot on, then, dude, politely recognising what was - was certainly no comment in-any-shape-nor form upon your character. Smile.
The Wiki instructions are attempting to cover nearly all of the bases to best serve the most people and likely problems. There is no single way to flash and there are numerous roadblocks that may occur. Having a simple and linear guide may be nice, but I strongly feel that it leads to rushed and relatively uninformed short-cuts where one error or another problem can leave one stuck and confused.
Keystone,
Glad to know it was just a misunderstanding. And to clarify, at no time have I disrespected you or the other fine members of this forum who use their spare time to have some fun with their hobby.
Also for the record, you did not conclude spot on unfortunately as it was not my rushing through the instructions that caused the issue but rather the fact that there is a certain amount of extrapolation required from your instructions to get everything working correctly.
Thanks again for all your help as I do appreciate it.
You're, welcome.

[SOLVED] Stuck at bootloader with SPL 3.03 (Need French Orange HD2 ROM)

Hello,
i just want to ask if maybe one of the admins could contact the developers of HSPL, because there are many who bricked their devices because of SPL 3.03. Or maybe one of the developers themselves will read this. HSPL is the last way out in most cases (or finding somebody with a ORT JTAG Tool).
I know that you better should not update a device without collecting information before it. Indeed!
My last phone was a iPhone, so I know what I´m talking ´bout, but sometimes it just happens that you might have skipped any important information or hint.
So please help :/
You bricked your device? wow!
May be you are just stick on the boot screen where it says SPL 3.03, because you tryed to flash a ROM from the SD card that is not for your operator?
Well, if this is the case just flash an older official ROM for your operator, again from the SD card. Than you can use the actual HSPL and flash a custom ROM. That fixed it for me.

of course i already tried that, does not work.
You are not clear.
Can you get your device to boot loader?
If yes, then you can try Gold card method from there.
yes that still works, but i tried goldcard method today (1 time with the rom which bricked my device und with a custom rom and the original orange rom [my hd2 has a orange branding]) and it was not the solution for my problem :/
edit: oh and if it´s of interest: when trying to flash with goldcard method the rom which bricked it, i get the white screen with "Loading..." in the middle and then it says "Not allow" also on a white screen and "0028002" written in red, then gets back to bootscreen.
well since u can get to ur bootloader consider urself lucky it aint bricked..
Do one thing, get the newest stock rom from htc (same spl 3.03) and make sure its the right one for your device(when you enter your serial no. it should accept and give u a download link).
then try flashing that rom..
It should get you up and running.
After that you can start worrying about getting back to the old spl and/or hardspl
New HSPL
I am stuck with the same thing.
If i could only geat a new HSPL for spl 3.03.0000

Try flashing an older stock Rom one that is covered by hspl via SD card method. Then whenever you like to install that latest 3. 14 Rom do it via usb method.

So from what I understand, OlDirty89 failed to read the fine print and is now in possession of an un-usable phone.
I remember when XDA was actually a community where users like this could actually get help when faced with a situation like this...
EX> I was a noob once. My first PPC was a WM5 HTC Wizard/aka/T-Mobile MDA. I actually stumbled across this forum by accident looking for cool new apps for my phone since lets face it.. WM5 is very bland. I saw what I thought was the coolest thing I'd ever seen - a complete OS replacement loaded with new features I'd never seen on a phone before and sure enough, without reading, I downloaded and attempted to flash the ROM. Naturally, it failed and I panicked. I had paid just over $300 for the phone after all.. I came back to this site, opened a new thread titled "PLEASE HELP ME!!" and within an hour, the more seasoned users on this site helped me restore my phone to the factory state and guided me in the right direction, teaching me everything I could have ever wanted to know about WM and how to customize it. I did eventually get that cool custom ROM on my Wizard and became an established member of the community.

You know it was really funny because I stumbled across a statistic once that stated that 60% of users who join these forums and flame other users are overweight virgins living with their parents... Just thought that was a funny statistic worth mentioning...
Now with all of that being said.. Let's help this guy. He clearly needs it else he wouldn't have posted this thread asking for it. I'm not saying that someone should write a step-by-step tutorial right here in this thread telling him exactly how to undo what he's done, just guide him in the right direction...
This speech really reminds me of a movie I saw not too long ago...

Just my 2 cents...

Great post
But I hate to say, unless we can get some powerful brainstorming goin on and figure out how to drop an engineering SPL (MFG) with mtty I don't think we can help..
I started a thread a little while back -- Stuck with SPL 2.02.0000 - Test ROM? that you might wanna read through to understand your situation a little better.
And just fyi, you can play/flash between 2.02 and 2.03 without problems, just DON'T try flashing 2.01 from those two.. left me with a lovely little brick.
(this is only if you flashed the 2.03 from this thread)

that´s exactly where my problem is...
my HD2 has a orange branding and is from france. i downloaded a rom from a link somewhere in xda threads, but it´s a really old rom version. the idiots of orange support posted me a link to the touch hd rom^^, so i even don´t know if there is a rom out there.
dunno if it would help posting my serial here...
i tried to decrypt it for finding information about my model, but the only information i can get is the day of production by the first few numbers and letters :/

IT WORKS! I am also with Orange France and had no issue in reverting back by flashing the latest Orange FR original rom from the SD card.
You can get it here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B9HDHTMW
Then open with winrar or other archiver and extract the ruu_signed.nbh. Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh, and flash it from the SD card.

Hello,
i just want to ask if maybe one of the admins could contact the developers of HSPL, because there are many who bricked their devices because of SPL 3.03.

I experienced same things after return my phone for screen problem. Orange france gave me a new one and then my problem began. I made all the needed steps to flash a new radio and Artemis ROM and my phone became crazy. Radio failed at 99%, random soft reset etc... By chance there is a new version (1.72) on the website of orange. With HSPL2 i managed to downgrade the SPL to 1.66 version and flash with the last official orange ROM.
Frequently, my phone continue to soft reset itself and became crazy. Can't use it on a whole day, without soft reset 10 times. I decided to return it to Orange (SPL, ROM and Radio where the good ones). Received a new one, immediatly flash my phone with artemis V36 and radio 2.10.50_28 and all is ok with this last phone.
Probably problems come from the phone and not the way you try to revert back...

Hi, I've got the same problem with my Orange HD2.
I can not find any original older ROM to flash with HSPL.
No any chance to install any different rom than my "French language" ROM which is my exact problem I wanna WWE.
