IPL/SPL question. - G4

How can I know if any ROM have or not IPL/SPL, and if its safe for G4 CID-lock phones?
Sorry if is an existing thread (I didn't found this question) and so sorry my terrible english.

Normally it will be mentioned in the rom release thread, however you can also check by pulling nk.nbf apart using typho5 then reassembling it and flashing.

How do you strip the nk.nbf of the ipl/spl? Do you use shelltool? Thanks

And when a ROM comes in a .exe file, how can I know?

Extract the exe to get nk.nbf, then extract nk.nbf to check if it contains IPL/SPL.

Look for a program called 'typho5'. This is what you use to unpack nk.nbf

And how I extract the .exe without star the update process?

i have a easy way for you
download wizard service tools
open it....and click on "check nbf"
select read rom
and see what you have inside =]

O2 UK 1.72 XDA II ROM Upgrades uploaded here.

I have uploaded the new O2 UK 1.72 ROM Upgrades for the XDA II. I have zipped the EXE files up so that more people are able to download them . The file comments are taken from the respective PDF files.
First back up your device, as the upgrade will erase all data from main memory.
To use, unzip to a folder on your PC, then either run the EXE or, if you have Country ID errors and/or wish to change operator or language IDs, extract the EXE to a folder and follow the steps in my post here.
The passwords to use are 0x20040304, 0x20040305 and 0x20040306 for the NK.nbf, ms_.nbf and Radio_.nbf files respectively.
Extracting the file from the zip I get only an executable file. How do I extract from this executable file the following:
HimaClearJumpCode.exe
HimaGetDeviceData.exe
HimaUpgradeUt.exe
ms_.nbf
NK.nbf
Radio_.nbf
?
Thanks and regards
Use Winzip or Winrar to extract the files from the EXE.
and you can get the extended rom for blackberry here Xda_II_172181

That is the correct password. Make sure you are not using the auto-detect option in the file open dialog. Select the file type explicitly.

Possibly a silly question but... if i backup with sprite backup and then upgrade to the new ROM, can i still restore my backup without screwing anything up? Or do i need to reinstall all my software?

to be on the safe side i'd reinstall. i've just finally finished doing that, and have just created a sprite backup!

BB on Athena with WM6! Will pay for help, please

Well, I've searched the forum and I see where WM5 users have a hack to get BB on their Athena devices.
Is there a hack, or program mod to get BB on Athena with WM6? I've got a copy of the BB program. It tries to connect and something isn't allowing it.
Can someone point me in the right direction please? I need to get this working and I am a student and work full time. I'll be glad to contribute to your paypal fund. HELP.
I'm working on it. Stay tuned.
OK, got it working with AP Dual 3.0 by PK.
You have to do the following:
- Use a Hex-Editor and open the .nbh file from the update package
- Find the Text Unicode String: HTC-Athena and replace it with HTC-Hermes
- Find the follwing hex string:
1E3DA0E30D3083E3452FA0E30510A0E302 which means OS Version 5.2.1933
and replace it with the following hex-string:
4D3EA0E3063083E3452FA0E30510A0E302 which results in OS Version 5.2.1238
- Flash this to your Athena
- After boot use a registry editor and go to HKLM->System->Versions and change the vlue of Aku from .0.7.0 to .0.2.3
- Install Blackberry Connect Versionb 4.0.0.92 and go through the setup
- You're done, should work now
If some has webspace I can upload a fully modified version of the .nbh file.
Cheers
Is there a way to patch the official WM6 release from T-Mobile D? It comes as an exe File. No .nbh to patch.

I've tried to do a ROM dump this weekend without much success. Can you back up a little bit for some one that isn't as technically savvy as yourself?
Do I need to flash to the AP dual 3.0 by PK first? Then modify the hex strings. I'm not sure how to do the hex strings. How much web space do you need for the files? I'm not certain of the exact order to do this.
Thanks,

You can use winRAR or winZIP to extract the exe and then you get the .nbh.
However, to shorten things up I did the job for you and uploaded the ROM to RS: http://rapidshare.com/files/8420583....35.111.3_1.50.00.00_Ship-BB-Edition.rar.html
It is not tested but should work without any problem. If not, you're on your own, it's your risk to flash it.

I tried to open the nbh file in order to modificate "the Text Unicode String: HTC-Athena and replace it with HTC-Hermes", and the hex-strings that you mencioned, but when I use any editor, it's impossible to find those strings. Is there a way you post detailed instructions and programs needed, to get bb connect working on my Athena? Thanks a lot

Anyone have official WM6.1 OS only ROM from VZW?

Does anyone have just the OS ROM portion of the new VZW MR1 update? If so could you link it or explain how you disassemble the NBH file? What tools did you use and do you know of a good thread to learn to make your own kitchen?
Yes, I have searched for these. Kitchen one just returns too many results. The Stock OS querry returns too many unrelated posts. I have seen it floating around before.
Any help is appreciated with any portion of this post.
Thanks!

First, you need to extract the self-extracting EXE that Verizon/HTC made.
Download the utility called NBHUtil. This will extract the NBH file and create NB files. In order to compile the individual files into an NBH again, use NBHGen, found in the kitchen under tools, with the following schema...
***Sample
TITA1000
00000000
VZW2.09
USA
200,0_SPL.nb
600,1_Splash.nb
601,2_SubSplash.nb
900,New_ExtROM.nb
300,3_Radio.nb
400,4_os-new.nb
*** End Sample
1 - is the phone model. Must be written as TITA1000
2 - CID
3 - Version
4 - Region Code
5 - 10 - these are the individual files.
first 3 digits is the area of memory to write the file. These MUST be as the sample. Then a comma and the "File Name". In order to create an NBH file that only has one, just delete the other lines. For OS only make it like this...
** OS Only
TITA1000
00000000
DCD_3.2.6
USA
400,4_os-new.nb
*** End OS Only
Edit: Forgot to explain NBHGen. It is a command line utility. Create the "Sample" text above and name it ****.txt (whatever you want to call it). Then run in CMD prompt..... nbhgen ****.txt. All the files must be in the same directory. If it finds the txt file, and the nb files, it will successfully create the NBH file as Ruu_signed.nbh
** OS Only
TITA1000
00000000
DCD_3.2.6
USA
400,4_os-new.nb

This isn't a dcd rom so why would you call it DCD_3.2.6? Should be whatever the output from nbhextract gives.

Yes. I am aware... it's just a sample. You can call it whatever you want. Obviously don't use somebody's "Copyrighted" name. LOL.

Quick Question. I noticed the NBH tool you posted as the ability to make and NBH files as well as tear them down. Would you use the NBH Gen program to generate NBH files over this NBHUtil that you posted?
EDIT: Nevermind! I built my first OS only ROM from these two tools. My next question is how do I break the OS.NBH or NB down into the actual kitchen files. I would assume that is the next step to creating your own kitchen, correct? Long ago on my Apache I used the DogGuy Kitchen maker with success. I tried that the other day and it made a mess of my Titan, hehe. Any suggestions? Alos, I would prefer to learn command line if at all possible. I hate GUI's. Yes I really did say that. I hate GUI's.
These tools are in the kitchen as well. There is a readme attached.

[REQ/Q] Rogers Call Display. How to cook a dll file into a ROM?

Hi all, I'm trying to make Fido Call Display to work on my Device, and I found the solution here. However the solution requires me to cook the rilphone.dll file into the ROM that I'm using (NAFT's v2.3). I've never cooked a ROM before and I'm far from understanding the procedure, but I don't think it's that hard to add a file in a cooked ROM. Can you guys help me out with this?
Please show me how to add/replace rilphone.dll in NAFT's v2.3 ROM. Thank you.

Yes, the reason my method does not work is because the rilphone.dll is not signed with a trusted certificate as I stated..
Pretty much leaves the only option as cooking it in, unless you are already using a ROM with a modified nk.exe in XIP to disable certificate checking.. then you can just drag and drop rilphone.dll and reboot.. but since stock ROMs are not modified in such a way, you cook it in, as all files cooked into ROM are trusted..
Unfortunatly there is no way to modify XIP without cooking either.
If a ROM is unprotected (still has it's rgu's) - download a ROM kitchen for your device.. extract the rom of your choice.. replace rilphone.dll in \OEM\OEMDrivers.. then re-assemble the ROM.. no registry manipulation needed.
For the raphael ROM kitchen, name your ROM "RUU_Signed.nbh", put it in \BaseROM
Run RaphaelKitchen.bat
select "e" for extract, then "a" for "From RUU_Signed.nbh"
let it go through its motions, when it's done replace rilphone.dll in \OEM\OEMDrivers
again in RaphaelKitchen.bat select "cf" then "b"
click "BuildOS" tab
click "Load ROM" button
navigate to RaphaelKitcken folder (has subfolders OEM, ROM, SYS, etc), press ok
click green "Go" button
when done, close the window
again the kitchen will go through some motions, when it pops up XVI32 and says "Page Pool Changer" in the command prompt window simply close xvi32
now it should prompt to flash to your device.. and you're done

Ya, I tried it with NAFT's v2.3, but it seems that the file is protected... the file can't be read.
I'm not sure I understand, you tried to cook the file into ROM and it gave you an error about it being protected? Or do you mean you tried to copy the file to the device, and it wouldn't let you overwrite? If that's the case that's why I suggest renaming rilphone.dll to rilphone2.dll before you copy to device, and then change the registry to point to that.. that way you don't have to overwrite the file that's already on the device.

hmm, sounds like the ROM kitchen is having a problem handing the .nbh you fed it, try it with a stock nbh and see if it works..
the rom you are trying to extract may be protected from extraction.
Just to make sure, you are trying to extract the ruu_shipped.nbh in \baserom.. which is the ROM image, somewhere in the range of 50 to 200mb large..

As for the rilphone.dll... do you have the right one for Rogers Display? and the one that will work for Fido as well?

I got the rilphone.dll file here
Sucessfully cooked in NaFT's v3.1, however it still doesn't work. It always show unknown Caller.
any help here would be much appreciated

[Q] update utility problems, help a noob please,

hi!
i am currently using an HTC HD2- ROM version: 1.72.206.3 (86372) WWE
Radio version: 2.07.51.22_2
as you can see i have made no changes to the software since i got it.
i have tried to load in a new radio and a new rom- Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 and
Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V3.0_FINAL... but when i go to load them usoing the update utility i get the message in the image.
thanks, harry.
Hi
From the looks of it, the filename might be incorrect or in the wrong location.
First, put the update utility file(s) in a folder along with the radio file that you want to use. Rename the radio file to ruu_signed.nbh (exactly like that). The try run the update - it should work.
If you follow the above instructions for your ROM file (Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V3.0_FINAL... ) then that should work too! Make sure you rename it as I have said above.
PS you can only update the Radio OR the ROM not both at the same time (as far as I know), so do one after the other.
Latz
Thanks for your reply. i done what you said, but am now getting "ERROR [238] : file read" :S
any ideas?
thanks, harry
Couple of things here
1) did you hardspl the deivce yet?
2) did you try and mount the files with a cd image mounter?
If you haven't done 1 then you can't flash anything that isn't a stock rom and if you did 2 you'll probably want to redownload the files. Also ensure that the path to the file doesn't exceed 256 characters. Some programs still have issues with really long file names
in post 1 that long filename, you didn't show the file extension, you are unzipping the downloaded file? (assuming it comes zipped, most do, zip, rar, 7z file extensions all need unpacking.
you shouldn't actually need to rename the file ruu signed, and you can't have two rom/radio .nbh files in the same folder.
