love the PK 3.0 ROM. its a real joy to use. cannot try remote desktop as my home pc runs on xp home edition. can anyone tell me if its worth to upgrade to proffesional to be able to use remote desktop or does logmein work just the same?
Remote desktop allows to use the athena keyboard and it rescales the PC screen to 640x480 instead of resizing it and this means "normal size" icons and text.
Using LOGMEIN the WM client allows only to RESIZE and sometimes the PC isn't readable or you have to scroll continuosly and you need to use his on-screen Kb.
Remote desktop needs a "public IP" and firewall configuration to be reached fron the phone and only ONE in the home/SOHO network could be reached if you have a single public IP.
Logmein is easier to configure, remote desktop requires some firewall/nat control.
I use both!
logmein can change the resolution to anything you want
and is far quicker and easier to use .
No need to open ports either and you can use the athena keyboard as well
I also use LogMeIn. It gives lots of control of display. The free version is very usable. The Pro version adds more features (file transfer is particularly nice) but it does cost a few clams.

sERGIOPI: CAN YOU PUT THE NEEDED STEPS FOR HAVING RUNNING REMOTE DESKTOP?
I cannot have running my device... My problem start about what to do on the pc,
To enable incoming RDP on XP pro...
right click my computer
Choose properties
Then the Remote tab
once in here you can tick the Allow users to connect remotely box.
you can choose who you want to be able to access.
then apply/Ok and your good to go.
I agree, I've tested logmein some time ago and now the WM Client can use the keyboard and chose the resolution.
Sometime it loses the pointer when you change the resolution, some "screen misaligment" and you have to close and open it again

i have been searching for a good terminal server, to install on my HOME PC
( or any other terminal server, so i can try the client... )
i havnen't been able to connect it to anything..... :x
I'm asuming it looks for port 23 on the server.... :?:
anyone ever used it yet ?
where ?
how ?
thanks for ANY info on this subject
You have apparently mistaken Terminal services for telnet
Telnet is basicaly a text mode terminal access. Terminal services is a remote desktop application with support for sharing all kinds of resources with the host, like sound, disk, network, all kinds of services. The Pocket PC client is capable of sharing mouse and keyboard with 8-bit 640x480 desktop depth maximum. But through GPRS, it is nearly unusable due to extreme latencies and high demand on connection bandwidth.
If you want to try it, you need Terminal service server running somewhere. The easiest way is with WinXP Professional, just go to Control panel/System/Remote access and select users who can connect remotely. Then, enter your home computer's IP address in the client and click connect. Your logon screen should appear.
terminal
Thanks,
now i understand...
How to improve TS client screen resolution?
How can I improve Terminal Services Client's screen resolution from 640x480 to 800x600 on my PDA?
We have a study system in my school that we can reach via Remote Desktop, and sign up for exams etc. It's good, because I can reach it with XDA, but now, the policy is changed, and the minimum screen resolution of the clients is limited from 640x480 to 800x600. :x
There are any registry settings or 3th party clients, that customizable?

3rd party host, but not a third party client thatcan enforce a specific resolution, if that is available i would be able to see my security cams which require an applet and res size of 1024x768.
a host program service that has a free version...
u must add a computer in logmein.com but it gives you the actual desktop session rather than an isolated terminal session if someone is logged on locally it will "share". The thing is that it will give whatever resolution that the computer host is using and can size down to fit screen or use instead of scroll bars like tsc some way to adjust screen by pointing to the corner & center edges. Worth a try and free, and best of all does NOT need any firewall port open on router but it must be allowed to use internet if you run a software version of firewall on the local computer host.
Can anyone tell me where i can get the ts client to my htc rose?
Hi, there
I would like to use some program to remote my Desktop....
I try to use Remote VNC Pro....but it didn't work.....
Anyone can tell me what can I do??
Thanks so much!!
remote droid is a pretty cool app from the marketplace. it essentially turns the phone in to a laptop style track pad. If your looking for something a bit more indepth then have a look on the market place
there are a couple of VNC programs, but none of them are brilliant.
Gmote allows you to remote control the media player on your PC and stream music to the phone
VLCMote allows you to remote control VLC if you have it installed on your PC...
there may be others.
PhoneMyPC looks impressive ?
Has anyone found these apps to be successful besides Gmote? I have tried every VLC remote in the market, set-up the HTTP protocol, and none has worked yet. I tried reading the developer's instructions to start it with command line but it told me the command was invalid. Thought it might be my firewall, but even disabling it did nothing.
anyremote
Did anyone here try anyremote? Using anyremote2html it should be possible to control various applications on the PC using a web interface. Unfortunately it did not work for me yet since no browser on the android was able to show the webpage containing the controls. I always get a 404 error with them. I have no idea why this is so. I can get it to work with another PC controling my first PC via any web browser. Does anyone know why the android browsers are not able to show that simple webpage from anyremote?
vnc4android does work fine for me (on my pc i have a ultravnc server with standard settings)
where do I get vnc4android? I tried a few of those vnc clients in the market. But they have trouble with correctly showing the desktop.

androidvnc works fine for me, using tightvnc on my pc. just change the port on androidvnc to 5900, altho lack of software keyboard is abit of a bummer.
The new version of GMote is excellent for the Hero. It allows you to use the Hero's screen as a touchpad and now also let's you bring up the keyboard to type stuff on the PC. It is very responsive and highly usable. I have a media centre PC and this means I have full control to complement the remote.
So, I was thinking (famous last words)... would it be possible for my nook color to completely duplicate my evo 4g's display and touchscreen (basically an android device with a vnc connection to another android device)?
I'd envision the network connection would be via wifi, most likely with the wireless tether feature on the evo. The purpose would be to use the nook color's larger display as a more car accessible way to access the phones apps, music, dial pad, etc.
It will work, but not without some issues. You can find Droid VNC Server on the market (free) and use any of the available clients. I use Wyse Pocket Cloud Pro, it's not cheap at $15, but honestly, it's worth the money if you need to VNC often. But the free version will certainly work too.
Run the server, and connect with the client. The main issue you'll run into is replicating the soft buttons for navigation. You'd need something similar to what he have on the nook with soft buttons on the status bar. Otherwise it seem to work fine.
This is what I do to connect my android from any other device that can run a VNC viewer/server and vice versa:
1. You need to have root access on your host device (if its android).
2. Get "droid VNC server" for free from market and run this on your evo.
3. There are a lot of VNC viewers but one I find that works well is "androidVNC" from market (free of course) which you install on your NOOK.
4. Profit.
Thanks! I'll have to try these out to see how usable they are.
Hmm is there no new client app to have the Android buttons (home, back...) from the android server device on my client ?
Hi guys,
I use Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client for remote desktop connection which works great directly in phone. But if I put Atrix into a lapdock and maximize phone display window, phone display is stretched to lapdock's 1366x768, but real image resolution stays at 960x540 and it doesn't look good.
Is there a way how to increase phone display resolution to lapdock's native 1366x768 and use applications in this resolution? Or is there some other application for remote desktop connection for lapdock which is able to use full 1366x768 resolution?
Thanks.
Edit:
I have Android 2.3.4, Webtop WT-1.2.0-133_22
Hi t-fuse,
If and only if you willing to root your Atrix then you will discover how helpful your gadget can perform if you use it together with the Lapdock.
I assume, the main reason why you need to have a RDP could probably because you need to access to your Windows base PC and perform some regular task which the "original" Atrix + Lapdock combination couldn't perform. If this is the case, you may make the decision if it is worth to "root" your Atrix? Search this forum for "Webtop2SD" and some others topic/comments which related to this hack.
Once again, I suggest you to spend as many time as possible to browse this forum (while experiencing your new gadgets) before you perform the hack and ask for help(s). Here you will find some nasty member and some very nice members too.
Hi OngPangTau, thanks for your reply.
I decided to root my Atrix several days ago (primary reason for rooting was LBE Privacy Guard application).
Then, I managed to successfuly install webtop2sd and other necessary stuff and now I'm running webtop from microSD card with XFCE4 GUI. To use remote desktop access I installed rdesktop which works good. The only limitation for rdesktop was that I had to switch my Windows 7 computer to less secure remote connection. However the most important thing for now is that remote desktop connection works
I'm probably not the only one that has done this, but yesterday at work I setup a headless Windows XP VM with virtualbox on a computer, and used RealVNC Viewer on my phone to login remotely, and it worked pretty well. Our service order system does not display correctly in mobile web browsers (even the ones you can set to view in desktop mode),so this was an interesting alternative. I didnt specifically do this for my phone, but more or less to see how it would work on a bigger tablet. I used RealVNC,which is a paid app,but its definitely one of the best ones out there for this setup, more on that at the end.
Anyway, heres a few pointers if anyone wants to try this out.
1. Install virtualbox (and the extension pack),install your favorite guest OS and install your favorite VNC server (I just used TightVNC for the server as well). Also, shut down the VM and change the network type from NAT to Bridge (so it gets an IP from your network). Start it back up, get the IP address and shut it back down.
2. With the VM off, start it back up in headless mode:
My host OS was windows 7,so I created a batch file in the VB program files folder and added this:
Code:
VBoxManage startvm "VM name" --type headless
Then I made a shortcut to the batch file on the desktop.
the command is same for linux, but you can run it from any terminal directory I do believe
3. Give it a min to boot up,then adjust the resolution with:
Use this one time command, adjust the values if necessary. I created another batch file to run this command, then changed it for the next command we have to run.
Code:
VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution 1920,1200
that will allow VirtualBox to globally use any resolution up to 1920x1200,but it wont actually change it,that is what the next one is for, this changes it on the fly:
Code:
VBoxManage controlvm "VM name" setvideomodehint 960 503 24
for best usage, disconnect and reconnect from the phone when changing it on the fly,RealVNC didnt exactly like the resolution changing while logged in.
Now with the RealVNC viewer,it keeps the notification bar at the top,so you cant exactly use it full screen,so thats why its not 960x540.
The realVNC app for 9.99 is worth it,all the other remote apps I have tried are either slower,or had dumb control schemes. This one seems to work the best. Also,I have never used the built in remote display function,so I dont know if it would work any better or not.
I had very minimal lag with 24 bit color on the phone, this method will work on any android device, you just have to figure out the maximum resolution to use without having to pan the screen. Obviously this will work great at home or at work using wifi, but not that great using 3G service.
thats pretty bad ass. For the Tegra 3 crowd, such as myself, Splashtop THD is more than just for gaming, again, it is paid like RealVNC, but the best part about it is it runs nearly lagless. Give it a shot if your hardware supports it
