I have a new Cingular 8525, never used. I want to upgrade it to WM6 and unlock it.
Should I unlock it first (using lokiwizMSL 0.3) and then upgrade it with the HTC WM6 file? Or should I upgrade it with WM6 then unlock it?
I didn't know if the HTC WM6 upgrade would work on an unlocked 8525. Thanks for your answer!

I personally unlocked, then upgraded. Don't think it actually matters. I did, however, use pof's unlocker, not the one you reference.
Check out THESE GUIDES .

Through research of different posts I have determined that I have a CID unlocked G4 model. I have a Qtek 9100 with MW 5:
Ipl 2.17.0001
Spl 2.17.0001
Gsm 02.07.10
Os 2.17.7.2
I was hoping to find an easy way to upgrade to WM6 and install the new touch applications. Does any one have any suggestions on which WM6 rom to install. Everything on my wizard is original programming except I have added PHM registry editor.
Your help is much apprectiated
There is no easy way... Are you sure your G4 is CID Unlocked? ALL G4 are locked in factory and the only way to unlock them is via imei-check website. You can use ShellTool to flash any WM6 here in the forum (I recommend NBD 7.4 for the touchflo apps).
As soon as you keep a copy of manufacturer RUU for your Wizard, you can flash any ROM you like using shelltool (Unlocking not required, but never using RUU to flash unless it is a manufacturer RUU)

Hi there,
My X7500 internal GPS seems to have a defect. The slightest touch makes it lose it's fix as if there's a loose contact. My x7500 is SuperCID (IMEI-Check) and has OliPRO hardSPL.
Is there a way to downgrade to the latest WM5 version prior to me sending it back to HTC for repair?
Cheers
I can confirm that with superCID and OliPRO I haven been able to succesfully up&downgrade back & forth between WM5 and WM6
FYI
With one exception. When going back to WM6 I lost my radio 1.45 in the process. I was stuck at 1.38, and upping to WM6 did not bring back the later radio stack.
*Update* Olipor's unlocker nicely took care of that. I now actually managed to combine rom 2.20 and radio 1.47. Thx Olipro for a helluva job building the unlocker! The only thing now is to see whether radio 1.47 improves some of the GPS reception. If not, it's down to WM5 and back to HTC with this puppy.
Do you have the unbranded version of X7500?
Which ROM did you use to go back to WM5?
I have the HTC Generic X7500 (originally Dutch). I used RUU_Athena_HTC_WWE_1.25.405.2_1.38.00.00_Ship.exe to go back to WM5, but the prerequisite is OliPRO *and* superCID.
OliPRO's unlocker will do that for you and gets you these two prerequisites.

Hi comm!
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, Rom Version: 1.21.
Can i upgrade my PPC with the released WM6 update of HTC without any problems, although i have a differently branded TyTN? Will all functions work (telephone, internet)? And can i downgrade my WM6 to WM5 easily or can I reactive my current system status with a backup (SK Tools)? Last but not least, what will the warranty say?
Thanks for your efforts.
PS: sorry for all these maybe stupid questions...but i´m just a beginner =)
upgrading to WM 6 worked for me as did unlocking ;-)
If you do not use an official T-mobile ROM update forget any warranty, unless you're able to downgrade to the original one
I have an original Rom from T-Mobile. Do you know what happens with the warranty of T-Mobile when you unlock the CID? Does the CID still will be unlocked if you install another Rom? Can you lock it again?
It won´t be possible unless you downgrade to your old ROM again. I am not sure if that´s possible, though.
I went along the way described at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php...ask=view&id=65&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=4
If you follow the directions including the upgrade to wm6 from Custel, you can afterwards install the German WM6 version from HTC. It won´t work directly. The CID will stay locked and the HTC cannot be installed until you installed the CUSTEL version.
I think the T-Mobile contract does not allow to modify the system in this way.
How to
Using the search function gave me thread as the first result.(Couldnt find any how to guides)
So.. What do i need to do to upgrade my ROM? i have a fresh MDA vario II just got repaired from the shop.(Nothing to do with bricking if you;re wondering)
Can some one please give me a simple step by step guide on how to upgrade.
Thanks a bunch
HELP
i have 8525, and i installed WM6, with different applications and i cant get the voice dial to work and cant find any applications or roms, does anyone know how i can get it to work?
i've got an 'old' mda vario 2, which i unlocked using pof's cid and simunlock tool. i want to upgrade to a new WM6 rom (either the tmobile or htc wm6 rom), and for that i may or may not need to be cid unlocked. the most important is, that i stay sim unlocked.
so if i upgrade to the stock shipped WM6 (dutch) tmobile rom, i off course do not need to be cid unlocked (only if i want to upgrade to the WM6 htc rom, which in the end i prefer!!!).
but i've been reading around, and there are radio roms around that when the device is upgrades with that particular rom, the device becomes simunlocked again to that provider (in my case maybe Tmobile) without any hope of simunlocking it again. The devices i'm talking about are the X01HT devices with radio 1.14.01.10.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665&highlight=cid+unlock
so here my question, i know for a fact (or i think i do since it is a pre 2007 mda vario 2) that i do not have an X01HT device. but after i upgrade to the orginal WM6 rom (either the tmobile rom or the HTC rom) will the radio rom in the new original tmobile rom simlock the device again (and thus putting the unlockable 1.14.01.10 radio rom on it)?
Or is this only the case for X01HT devices with radio 1.14.01.10 (since the radio roms of these devices cannot be up or downgraded).
any help is appreciated
Use HardSPL - this will idiot-proof keep your device unlocked / safe for most failures if you follow the instructions in the forum and in the WIKI exactly.
The X01HT is a version of the HTC HERMES especially made and rebranded for SOFTBANK (just another company riding on HTC's back ). Your T-Mobile Vario II is not a SOFTBANK!
Read the HERMES section in the WIKI it covers nearly everything, even SIM lock / CID lock. If there are some things in the WIKI which you can't understand just come back here and post your questions ...
Hi,
A few weeks ago I upgraded my T-Mobile Vario 2 to WM6 using the TMUK official update. I like WM6 but now need to downgrade back to WM5 because my satnav software (Route 66 Navigate 7) doesn't work on WM6! I've downloaded the WM5 rom from TMUK but it won't install - it puts the phone into debug mode (the multicoloured thing) but then waits for a while before coming up with an Error 260.
I've read all the guides and used the search but can't find an answer - this is a "stock" phone, not unlocked in any way and I'm only using the official operator's ROMs. Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Tim

read this it seem to be the same error
Thanks - but I was hoping to avoid having to unlock the phone. As I understand it I shouldn't need to seeing as I'm trying to install official operator roms?
Cheers,
Tim
what is your bootloader version (HINT HINT)
IPL 1.04
SPL 2.03
I thought none of that mattered if I have only ever used official TMUK operator roms? I went from an offical WM5 to official WM6 and now I'm just trying to go back to official WM5? Whilst I trust the people on here more than I do TMUK support they say there should be no problem doing this.
Thanks again,
Tim

Since the old RUU isnt aware of the newer SPL version you have that is why it doesnt work.
Follow the guide for downgrading HERE.
BRILLIANT! Thanks mrvanx. I put HardSPL on using your instructions, then followed the WM5 downgrade guide. Only problem was that autodetect of my bootloader didn't work, and my SPL version wasn't listed so I had to use SafeSSPL. Seems to have worked, thanks again.
Cheers,
Tim
