My phone is under warranty & I need to swap it for a new one with Cingular for a hardware issue. They had me do a "Clear Storage" and wipe the phone. Does this get rid of any CID unlocking? Basically, I want to return it in the exact same condition I got it so they won't void my warranty.

I have been running faria's WM6 (real thing) ROM for a couple of months now on my 8125 G4. The phone is not unlocked.
In the event that I want to send my phone in to Cingular for replacement under warranty, how can I put it back to a factory state? Can someone confirm that it's safe to use the ROM flash from the HTC website? Or is there a better process to use?
FYI - I have searched the forums for this and have come up empty.
Cingular has factory ROM, you should use that.

As soon as you are using the original RUU with the download, you won't brick your Wizard because the RUU is CID protected so it will not flash if it is not for your 8125.
hello!
i'm new in here! i like this forum! keep it up!
i read the wiki and how to upgrade my t-mobile mda vario II. but as a n00b i got some questions
i only read that after i unlock the CID or SIM the warranty goes out.
but what's about HardSPL and another RadioRom? can i use it without touching the warranty?
that's very complex! but if i flash my first rom i will make a clever move and won't asking stupid questions anymore
thx in advance!!!
edit: i read on mrvanx.org that you can downgrade hardspl back to a retail spl.
you should mention this in the wiki, too. you could also make a subitem with "upgrading without loosing warranty" or something like that, for newbies like me.

For $35 USD you can have your phone unlocked by code and it wont ruin your warranty.
Then you can flash any rom and if you need warranty service, just flash back to the original ship rom. PM for details.

you can unlock and no supercid yourself and save yourself $35. Unlocked SIM does not cancel a USA warranty.

Well I guess it depends how the sim is unlocked. If its a patched radio then yeah, voids warranty. If its a code it doesnt. Supercid should also void warranty. CID = customer ID (with AT&T being the customer to HTC). If you superCID then you are altering this and voiding your warranty.

Why would a patched radio void you warranty. You just flash back to a stock radio. Then how would anyone tell which way it was unlocked. And besides ATT gives the code free, so if you are on ATT just call them and skip all this mess.
And yes a SUPERCID woudl void the warranty..but ATT doesnt check, but it is up to the owner to take a chance I guess on the SUPERCID as you never know when they may start checking.

You got me on the radio, but if you forget to flash back the right one, they will see. Also, if you ever screw up while flashing you could brick the device; I've never heard of bricking a phone while typing in the unlock code.
And whether or not ATT checks for superCID... stills seems like a gamble on a $500 investment (HTC probably will check).
I shouldn't be selling this service here, but i just have a few codes I gotta get rid of . At least the codes are peace of mind.

If you use HardSPL, it will be hard to brick your device. You're just looking for an excuse to pawn off your services, which isn't cool here.

Youre right HTC will prob check SUPERCID.
I still think though the POF unlocker is the best since you can SIM unlock only then upgrade to a new radio..all free. And Olipro has a way to do the ext rom thing with not being SUPERCID so everything is possible without totally screwing the warranty.
I will keep you in mind though for my kaiser code if ATT try to screw with me though. I am hoping POF and olipro get a kasier though. Maybe we should start a fund for them so they get one sooner
Not sure what else to do and/or the safest way to do it. By law I am not sure how they can even sell a Locked phone in the US anymore. I asked my Virgin dealer to UNLOCK my phone and just got dumb looks.
I've read conflicting pieces of information on this online. Some say that the warranty is not voided when the bootloader is unlocked, others say it is, and yet others say it isn't as long as you restore stock and lock bootloader. I called HTC support where I was told that unlocking the bootloader would indeed void my warranty, however the HTC site simply says it may void warranty.
I'm in the UK, so technically unlocking doesn't void warranty, HOWEVER I'd rather not like to go down that legal mess.
I'd like to be able to flash Android Marshmallow without losing my warranty. I bought the tablet off Amazon.
Marshmallow is released on the 29th Sept, so you might as well wait and get the OTA automatically - saves any hassle.
Saying that, yes, you can unlock, but my understanding is that if you have to RMA for warranty, you'll need to re-lock it. I think you can only do that if you stay on official ROMs. I just RMA'ed mine after relocking and it was fine.
Thanks! I'll probably wait then, didn't realize it was so close! So if I relock and return to stock, I should be fine?
This is a Nexus. No, you don't lose warranty because of unlocking.
Hi Friends,
Long story short. I have a Note 4, and want to see if the V10 is for me. I am on T-Mobile and in excellent standing with them.
My question is:
Is there a way I could buy the phone, and try it for a few days (whatever the limited period is), Bootloader unlock it, root it, custom recovery it, but if don't like it and want to return it, return it back to TRUE stock with everything relocked and unrooted?
So really the questions are 2:
1. Does T-Mobile allow a phone trial, and return all of your money if you return it by the right time? Has anyone tried this?
2. What's the best way (guides/links) to get the phone, unlock Bootloader, root, TWRP it, and then restore to complete stock and locked, if don't like the phone?
Appreciate all your help! Thank you!
You have 14 days to return it (20 if bought online) but there is a $50 restocking fee unless the phone is defective.
Thanks bud! Even at Best Buy they have this? And how about my question about rooting, unlocking, and etc and restoring? Possible?
Anyone?
You can not truly revert to stock.
Once you unlock the bootloader it will forever say "Bootloader State : Bootloader Unlock" when you turn it on.
Even if you relock the bootloader and find a way to remove that message, in the hidden menu is a place that lists every rooting file that has ever been on the device, and the time at which it was detected.
Like mine says it has detected SuperSU, BusyBox.
You can buy, unlock, root, unroot, relock, return.
However do not be surprised if they catch it and throw a fit.
Incorrect. You boot into the bootloader, flash the bone-stock system image, do "fastboot oem lock" and the bootloader gets relocked and the message at boot disappears and the LG RCT thing in the hidden menu says "Official" again. Stop spreading misinformation.
@siraltus thank you for your response bud. Can you point me to a link to a guide or instructions on how to flash the stock image via the bootloader and relock it? Thanks!
