Hello everybody - can anyone help me at this moment. I am right now sitting with my Hermes connected through USB. I was flashing the standard ROM with RUU_HERMES_HTC_WWE_1[1].35.255.2_1.35.255.102_1.08.00.10_SHIP. Unfortunately it stopped at 5% some half an hour ago. I prefer to ask you before disconnecting it. Please help!!!!!!!!!
OK, having no answer I decided to disconnect it and look for an answer. Now I know that I have a 1000 USD brick and no possibility to put it back to work.
I now suspect that the upgrade did not work properly because my device had a CID lock. That is quite strange however, because I bought it on the open market without any commitment to any GSM operator.
I am now stuck on the tricolor bootloader screen with SPL 1,09.
Basing on the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285157 - especially on the lines:

You can't downgrade to bootloader 1.04 by flashing a Shipped ROM. However imei-check.co.uk is able to downgrade the bootloader.
There was a solution posted on this forum, but it was stolen from imei-check and was removed. If you are not willing to pay you have to wait until another solution is developed.
The RadioROM can't be upgraded. You have to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 to unlock your device.", despite seeing info on the website, I paid to imei-check the 20 pounds.
So far I only lost money, time and nerves trying to downgrade or "repair" my hermes. Nothing works. If anybody has any suggestions please share on the forum or PM me.
BTW I started the whole process with SPL 1,04.
Sounds to me like a flaky USB port which is why it stopped at 5%. Try another port in the rear of your PC and re-flash. Be sure to follow the mantra:
Windows XP, screensaver, powersave disabled
No other programs running.
i had a similar problem probably with the flaky usb port as Sleuth255 mentioned. trying with a different pc is another option if you have one and that was what i did with success.
im not sure about the hermes.. but i know on the wizard as long as you could get to the bootloader screen (the RGB screen) that your device isnt bricked yet.. i would follow the other suggestions about usb ports and using different pc's, i bet you can make your $1k work for you again
Try:
Go into bootloader by pressing down both the POWER button and SIDE OK together and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the bottom.
Make sure you have disabled the USB connection in ActiveSync, before trying to connect to the bootloader:
File --> Connection settings --> uncheck "allow USB connections"
Connect your USB-Cable
Download mtty.exe. Start it and connect to USB
When you see "USB>" Type "info 2". You should get: "HTCS" + CID + (4-byte checksum) + "HTCE". Remeber what CID you have.
Look for a Shipped ROM that matches your CID
Download and flash it using a different USB-Port or PC than the last time
Afterwards you will be able to use the file that you got from imei-check. The imei-check downgrader/unlocker only works if you've got a working operating system on your device.
After typing "info 2" in mtty.exe I get the following line
HTCSF kEŘ(HTCEUSB>
Which of those is the CID? I cannot find any matching one in the Wiki.

OK, I have now the confirmation of the diagnosis - as I was suspecting.
Can I now have some help in the solution?
Some people succeded with the method described as "problem 5" here:

but some others don't succeed and have a brick. Try the steps on the wiki, if you are not able to fix it this way, send it to repair centre.
Following the steps from point 5 of the given website, I only get the following lines:

I've the same problem. I was flashing the HTC 1.18.416.1 1.18.416.101 1.14.00.10 but the process has stopped to 89 % and now the phone is in bootloader mode spl- 1.06 and don't enter in windows mode !!! My cid is HTCSORANG001a#USB> I hope that i've not a brick !!!

Your bootloader is 1.09 and you'll not be able to flash anything because the CID will not match. Send it to service centre.

Your phone is not trashed, but there is no rom matching your CID yet. You should have cid unlocked it before flashing a rom with BL 1.06.
Try to boot OS again using "set 14 0" (see wiki, "problem 4"), if that doesn't fix it (chances are it will not), then wait until orange releases a rom upgrade with CID "ORANG001".
I've try the procedure "Problem 4" but after "write nand success" and sr it don't start. My cid is always ORANG001 with spl-1.06

Hi, i done a fair amount of searching but to be honest there just to many posts about this to get a answer to be sure of.

1) How do it tell if my phone is CID locked ?.
I sure mine is a G4 model now, but i updated rom and so on, and all works ok there, but i am unsure if i used a locked rom update. So i am unsure, of course i dont wish to brick my phone like some have.

Here is what you have to do:
- download any G4 rom from xda ftp
- unpack it
- replace the update tool from the WM6 one with the one from the G4 rom (when you will run it, it will be in italian)
- don`t worry about bricking your phone, it can only happen if you try to update your IPL/SPL and the WM6 ROM doesn`t include those upgrades.
(if your Wizard is CID-locked, after the upgrade, your OS will be the same one you had before the upgrade, if not, be happy) )
I can give a little help if you feel you can trust me.
Use a little program called pdocread.exe (by itsme) and read the bdk1 using the following command:
pdocread.exe -n 1 0 0x10000 [saved_filename] and then contact me via PM to send me the encrypted file so that i can read it and check the CID value. I must warn you that the resulting file will have your phone's IMEI in it.
For this program to work your phone must have RAPI and Unsigned Apps enabled
You could also use mtty.exe program to check the CID status by using the info 2 command

I assume the "HTCSWIZCNG01" is just verifying what I already knew? That I am CID locked to cingular?
I managed to get a list with a lot of CID codes for different operators and will check your value (once i find the file ) but i also believe that your phone is indeed CID locked; sorry
Many thanks for the details, tried it last night but would not change, so i at least know i have a cid locked system now.
Maybe wiorth getting it unlocked, but to be honest it was more of a wanting to know if it was or was not, know i know that i happy with what i got. Maybe an offical update will work when its released.

Yep, that CID is indeed from Cingular. Check with the file attached i extracted from some file i can't recall exactly which and where i got it...

A quick search around the forum would have shown you that it's not possible to CID unlock a G4 device for free.
Yours is a G4 and if you compare with my values from post #4 you can see that yours isn't CID unlocked

I did it with "QTEK Rom 2.18.7.8 AKU2 ESN + Radio 02.47.11 Con CID Bloqueado by jossma". It works great, and in spanish. I have to "repair" a little problem with keyboard.

My problem :
Since my x7500 is SIM unlocked and with a standard setup as far as I can see I tried the HTC VM6 Rom flash without CID unlock.
That was stupid. Very stupid, since I don't have the providers orginal ROM available.
My x7500 will not accept the HTC VM6 ROM and is stuck in Bootloader with "USB" at the bottom of the screen when connected to my PC. Hard reset does not start the normal "installation"
When I start the VM6 flash program I get the famous "provider error message"
Is there any possibility to unlock the CID in Bootloader or "flashing" the bootloader to use the original ROM image at my device for a re-install ? In that way I could use the X7500 unlocker in VM5 and then flash to VM6 after.
If not re-installing the original ROM or unlocking the CID is possible I guess my x7500 is seriously bricked.
I am sorry if the answer to my problem can be found in other treads here. I have searched and read a lot without any success. I know now that I should have unlocked the device before trying to flash -> can only blame my one stupidity.
I will be very happy for every advice.

There were four ROMs posted here some time ago. At least one of them didn't require the unit to be SPL / CID unlocked. Try to get hold of one of those - look in the Athena WM6 forum (where this should have been posted)

Hi Mackaby, thanks for the answer.
That was the first ROM I tried to flash. Gave me error message "wrong vendor, check your update software"
Now I only get bootloader when I start my device. I have(had) a Norwegian ROM so I guess the CID does not match. I wish I unlocked my device before trying the WM6 ROM but......
Now I am stuck : Cannot boot / install my original ROM or install any.
My hope is that I can either unlock my CID in Bootloader or installing the original ROM again with a hard reset. To bad a hard reset only sends me to bootloader.
try this commands in mtty:
set 14 0
task 8
If it doesn't boot OS after this, you need a rom matching your CID. It's not possible to CID unlock it from bootloader.

As far as I know, all the athenas were provided withe the romcode ...if one hqs got the bonus pack.Just check withe someone for the bonus pack,,ai hope this helps.

Bonus pack ? do you mean the CD that followed my x7500 ? I can check but don't think there are any ROM Flash application on that.

If u buy bonus pack with athena which includes car kit etc etc, u also get CDs, in which the ROM is also there..so I was asking if u can get hold of the dealer from whom u hv got and enquire about it..also in mtty issue info 2 command check what is yr CID

Ok, understand. We don't have anything called Bonuspack here with hardware stuff and ROM software.
This was the output from the mtty command :

That would corrupt the signatures, and it won't flash with an unmodified bootloader.

I have a similar problem, but in my case I didn't do anything to deserve it... I just turned off my new and provider unlocked x7500 after playing with it all day (just installed skype for mobile and customized some settings, tried the programs, etc.), and when I tried to turn it on again, it just froze in the bootloader screen... Nothing works, I tried soft and hard resets, don't know what else to do?
I've been reading al your posts everywhere and tried a few things without succes, when I conect my x7500 to my pc, it doesn't connect to activesync or anything. I guess I would do better if there would be someone who can create a reply that would clearly guide me on what to do and what files (with links) to download. I simply don't know what happened! since I didn't do anything especial to deserve this from my x7500 which I was falling in love with, after only a few hours of just getting to know it.
I'm new to xda's so please lay it down easy on me... Already had removed the sim and the miniSD I had installed on it... still nothing happens.

went to imei-check.co.uk and got my CID unlock key. IPL & SPL are still showing X.XX.0001
Is the device unlocked, or not?

My G4 Wiz still displays the versions as you show, and it's unlocked.
I guess my answer is: I dunno.
the xx.0001 is not an indication of CID locked or not. It is an indication of the version (i.e. G3 or G4) your Wizard is. There is no easy way to check your CID status, other than flashing it. However, from what I can see so far, it doesn't seems to be beneficial to flash it all (i.e. CID-unlock) when ShellTool can do a very good job in a CIDlocked Wizard.

Will see into this.
I unlocked the phone and tried to install NBD 9. Update process stuck at 52%. Managed to reflash original Vodafone ROM. Have restored my Data via SPB Backup and will try again after trying the Wizard Support Tool.

The "CID actions" includes a report on the CID lock status .. good luck!
There is an easy way to check if the device is CID unlocked:
Kill active sync (taskmanager kill wcescomm.exe)
Start wizard in bootloader (reset and hold voicedail butten untill red/green/blue window)
Open mtty.exe
select connection \\.\WCEUSBSH001 and press ok
in the new window type:
set 32 2
and press enter.
then the following will appear:

Cmd>set 32 2
+ SD Controller init
- SD Controller init
+StorageInit
***** user area size = 0x3C8C0000 Bytes
g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0
HTCE
Cmd>
The g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel is the key!
if it is set 0 then the device is CID unlocked, else its locked.

The Tool tells me, that the device is CID unlocked although it fails to recognize the model as a wizard.
Since i have already installed the ShellTool Version of NBD 9, i will not bother going further into detail unless someone gives me a good reason to flash another rom. Ist there?
