My work has a GPRS connection through O2 and we had to setup some manual settings (which was a nightmare!!) to make this work. However, we can still surf the net if we connect to O2 GPRS.
So in summary, we have 2 GPRS connections. 1 for O2 which is used for surfing the net, and 1 for the company I work for (let's call them XDA plc for legal reasons....).
You might ask that why don't we just have 1 connection because we receive emails and check network stuff through the XDA plc connection but we can't surf the net using this one, so this is why we have the O2 connection as well. Everyone following this.
So to jump between the connections involves a long way for a shortcut by using the Settings-Connections-Connections icon and changing the settings. I noticed under Program-GPRS Connections there are various shortcuts. So after all this drivel.... here is the question.
Does anyone know how to make a new shortcut which I could apply our personal settings to?
Much Appreciated
Keith
No for a lie down.... phew :?
So, if I got your correctly, you have a secured GPRS connection to the XDA plc that doesn't allow access to the internet for security reason, and another normal GPRS connection to surf the internet ... right ?
Ok, this is a typical setup for highly secured LANs to reduce the possibility of virus attacks.
My advice is to check with your network administrator the possibility to add a firewall on a proxy server in your LAN to allow you to surf the internet (I 'm sure it came to their mind but they know better than me of course )
Or, you can setup the normal connectivity on your XDA to access the internet through O2, and set the xda plc GPRS connection to the "Work" connection and adjust your network application on the XDA to use this connection instead of the normal one.

Why couldn't I have put it like that............... Yes

I'm afraid it is the 'Or' as our IT guys cringe at the thought we even have an XDA....
There are 3 selections that you can make in the Connections (under settings) window.
1. When needed, automatically connect to The Internet using these settings:
2. When needed, automatically connect to Work using these settings:
3. My network card connect to:
1 is Work Settings
2 is Work Settings
3 is Work
The Work Settings have the secure GPRS settings (XDA plc).
I would have thought that I could have selected:
1. Internet Settings
2. Work Settings
3. Work
But when I use Active sync it will try to connect to O2 instead of XDA plc. It's the same when using IE. It will connect to XDA plc if 1,2 & 3 are set to Work. I've tried various other combinations to no avail.
My thinking was that if I could create a shortcut, like in Programs-GPRS Connections, then I could jump between the 2 without going through a long process.
Cheers

oh, i think i got ur point. up to my info, internet settings will be used whenever the device is connected 'wirelessly' .. if ur exchange server is in the xda plc LAN, then activesync will use the internet settings ... and Work settings is used whenever the xda is in the cradle ... IE will use it only if the 'pass through' option is checked and there is a proxy to the internet.
you should create another 'connection' under internet settings but using the access point of xda plc ... u will still have to select the proper 'modem' under internet settings manually
leave the work settings empty and it will be auto configured if u sync with ur exchange server from the cradle

Does that not defeat the point though? If the work settings are already setup, I'm as well selecting between that and Internet settings instead of jumping further into the settings?
I thought there might be someway to create a shortcut in Programs-GPRS Connections therefore I could get these shortcuts to the today screen and then select whichever one I need.
If you use WM2003 you can click the connection strength symbol in the header to connect and disconnect to the different services. They should both be listed in the bubble that pops up.

I think what your problem is that you are using a server name on your corporate LAN that has full-stops in it. These are interpreted by the XDA as an internet address, and therefore the Internet connection is used.
What you need to do to get around this is to put in some exceptions.
Go into Settings -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks
Then click on the exeptions button, and click on Add URL
Then put in the name of your server (or the domains that your company uses). Good examples are:-
*.xda.com
mailserver.xda.com
That should sort it for you, so you can then set the Internet to connect to the Internet, and Work to connect to Work.

But I can't use the XDA plc to access the Internet and I can't use O2 Mobile Web to access XDA plc for email, etc.
Interesting point though but I can't think where this si useful unless I've missed your point.
The only solution I can see is to create these shortcuts which no-one, so far, seems to know how to do.
Thanks for all your help so far,

Sorry - I think you have missed my point.
You have two connections - the Internet and Work.
Work is normally used for any Corporate LAN type stuff, and the Internet for everything else.
The XDA decides that you need to connect to and use Internet if the address contains full-stops (i.e. URLs like http://www.abc.com). If it doesn't, then the Work setting is used.
I think the problem is that your work server is setup as something like email.abc.com, so the XDA decides that this is an internet address and uses the Internet connection settings.
What I do is setup O2 Mobile Web as my Internet connection, and my corporate LAN as the Work connection. Then, I add into the exceptions list the name of my corporate LAN email server (email.abc.com, or even *.abc.com). This tells the XDA that when using the address email.abc.com to use the Work settings instead of the Internet settings and hey-presto it sorts itself out!
The only challenge then comes when, like me, you have a 3rd connection (WAP/MMS), at which point you do have to manually choose between which Internet connection setting to use, but for just the 2 it works fine.
Hope this helps!

Now I understand where you are going with this. But I can only select the following menu:
Settings -> Connections
There is no advanced menu.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Cheers
cant recall if it's the same with 2002 if you are using that, that is
start button
choose settings
choose the tab called connections
click the icon called connections
choose the tab called advanced
it's in the buttom of the dialog in the connections dialog

uh oh... there's no tab for advanced, just dialling locations and connections.
Maybe it would have helped if I had mentioned Pocket PC 2002.. Sorry.
Anyone else know where this menu may be?

i think you see the stuff in the normal dialog in menu
it's where you choose what network you are on
as in <gprs>
or <wap> og <mms>
or <Wifi> or <Usb Lan using ActiveSync passthough>
or ............
those you dont see but need you will have to make yourself
much in the same way as you manualy set up grps
you then just choose the one you want to use at a given time and
thats pretty much it really

I would have hoped that the advanced menu would either be somewhere else on PPC2002 or at least be called something else. It appears that there is no easy answer to this.
This is really the crux of the problem where I have to keep going to Settings/Connection/Connections and changing everything back and forth.
What I have noticed about using the GPRS connection shortcuts, progrma/gprs connections, is that they change all the settings over automatically which means I have to change them back. So if it can do this then we must be able to create a shortcut which will change them back. Where this info is kept, I don't know.
it's pretty much the same situation you are facing if you are using a laptop with a modem and lan and have to change between them
maybe you can look for some 3th party software

What you're looking for is there in WM2003.
If an upgrade to 2003 is not an option you might want to give SPBs GPRS Monitor a try. I think it will let you connect/disconnect to different networks from the popup that is shown when you klick the connection icon in the task bar.
Download a trial at:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/gprsmonitor/?en
I've downloaded this software and I'll give it a try. Looks like good quality software too. Anyone tried the Today plug-in? versus other today plugins?
How do you upgrade to WM2003? Is it like a PC OS where you purchase the OS and install it? Sorry for newbie question....
After much serching and trialling I eventually forund RasMan software which provides the dial in switching that I need.
Now I can leave all the settings for my companies GPRS (so I can Activesync) and by using RasMan, I can dial up the O2 Mobile Web and surf to my hearts content.
Knew I would get there in the end.......

I've never used wireless tether on my phone, but recently tried to. I'm running the Lightning Bolt 2.7 rom and I'm using Wireless Tether for Root Users. I hit "press to start tethering" and everything seems fine. I'm granted SU permission and it displays "press to stop tethering" which leads me to believe that the program is working correctly. I have 3G connection but I'm getting 0.0kb down and up and I'm unable to discover my Eris with any other device (my wife's Eris, PC, or laptop). Am I doing something wrong?

I think I've tried every free wifi tether app in exsistence. I've heard tetherWifi works but I don't want to pay $9 to test it...wish they'd let you try b4 you buy.
Stupid question, but do you have wifi turned on?
If so, there is an option in the settings of wireless tether app that's called enable access-control. If this is checked then you have to grant priviledges to the devices that you wish to connect to your phone. You will have to slide the notifications window down and then select the notification about some device that is trying to connect to your phones wifi. After you select that notification you must grant the priviledge before it will work.
Good Luck!!

I had my wifi turned off but I've tried turning it on and off. I enabled access-control, disabled it, turned bluetooth PAN tether on and off, and I've changed the settings to each of the different LAN network settings. Each time I return to the main page I'm seeing 0.0kB down and up. When I scan for wifi connections with my wife's phone, it never sees my Eris. I've even tried manually adding the wifi network on her phone by entering "AndroidTether" manually as the SSID which is what my phone says the SSID is. It adds it to her wifi networks but says that it is "Not in range, remembered".
Question - When you turn on Wireless Tether, before you connect any devices to it, does your phone display any kB going down or up? Or do you have to actually connect to a device to start pushing a signal?
You might need to start over. Do not mess with anything other than changing your SSID and enabling Access control. Do not use bluetooth for confusion reasons. When you connect with your wireless laptop watch for the access request, slide your notifications and then accept your device. You should be ok. Do not try to complicate things. Just KISS!!
PM me if you have any other questions!
That's my problem. I can't get other devices to even attempt to connect to my phone. The only notification I ever see is "tethering is currently running". I get superuser permission whenever I turn on tethering or change any settings that require it to restart tethering. But I never get any kB down or up and no other device ever recognizes the wifi connection.
Whenever I get an access control notification, it DOES NOT pop up. It is displayed subtly at the top of the phone and I have to slide my finger from the very top of the screen down to the bottom, and then the notification menu fully comes up. I then click the access control notification and check the device that is trying to access wifi through my phone. You have to pay close attention.
You could try to click on the menu button by your home button and select access control, and see if anything tries to attach. You will need to check the box for the device and then accept.
Good Luck!

I understand that I have to view my notifications to see the notification. But there is never one there. No device sees a wifi signal because the phone isn't pushing one. It's my understanding that the app should be pushing a wifi signal that other devices can see and try to connect to. When I'm on my laptop or my wife's phone and I scan for a wifi network I DO NOT see my phone and therefore the device does not attempt to connect to my phone (and there is not a notification if I slide my finger down at the top of my phone to allow a connection).
The question I have is: when you begin tethering (BEFORE ANY DEVICE HAS CONNECTED OR ATTEMPTED TO) do you have kb's going down or up? Someone answering this simple question would help me tremendously!
Thanks!

To answer your question, no. if nothing is connected to the tether then the connection has no need to upload or download info.

What version are you running? I'm not running a froyo rom so I havent been up to date on what works and what doesnt, but have you looked thru all the froyo rom threads to see if anyone else has had a tether problem? On aloysius, I have version 1.6 and it works fine, get info transfer up and down after I connect with my laptop. If you have access control enabled, you will need to authorize your device that is connected, if you can find it in wireless networks.
Is wireless tether bundled with the rom? You said you have tried all versions that you could find but I still have a feeling its the version of wireless tether you have, but it could also be that all versions you found are only compatible with 2.1.
Heres all I could find:
Wireless Tether
I'm on KaosFroyo v24. So I tried opening wireless tether and running it. I started it and did a wifi scan on my wife's phone. Still nothing. I got on the laptop and ran about a half dozen scans and it finally saw and connected to my phone, at which point data was streaming up and down. I had just assumed before since no data was streaming and I couldn't connect initially that something was wrong.
I still can't connect with my wife's phone (which was what I used most for testing) but I got it working.
Thanks to everyone for your help!!!

Update:
I connected to Wifi and am able to access the website via the Wifi connection, but not using T-mobiles HSDPA network!
I am having trouble with authoricating Wi-Fi. When i connect to WiFi a website should pop up to allow me to login. However this is not happening. I had a Samsung note 2 and i had no problems at all. Is there some setting i need to use?
Not sure what you mean popup, I simply open the web browser and try to open any website, it will redirect to login page if it reqires login or accept something.
Ya thats the problem its not redirecting the web page. I am using chrome. I have tried setting chrome as the default browser but no luck with the web page being redirected
When that happens to me (e.g. at Starbucks, at McDonalds, any public place with WiFi, etc) .. I usually wait around for a little while and like every 20 seconds or so I try to navigate to google.ca... If done correctly the WiFi access page should appear. If it doesn`t work, try going to the WiFi settings and forget the network and reconnect to it. Once you connect to it wait like 20 seconds sometimes the pop up will happen right in the settings.
Thanks i'll give that a try. I know there's a bit of a problem with chrome and the default browser. Thanks for the help I'll let ya know

On my home network the Mate 2 does NOT do well on N. It runs fine on G. Perhaps that is part of the problem.
Very slow Wi-Fi
I am using my HAM2 without a SIM card, on wi-fi. It is way too slow and gets disconnected. Is this coz of no sim or is the phone by itself having an issue?. My other devices ( laptop, Nexus5, iphone6) are having a good signal strength and is pretty fast
Any advise to increase the wi-fi on this phone will be really helpful.
Hi
does anyone have the file explorer WiFi transfer working on their PACE ? I installed the apk on both my phone and the watch and watched the youtube video several times but cant get mine to connect.
I choose the "access from.." option on the watch, connected to WiFi and started the service and noted the IP address and port. I then open up the app on my phone and choose the "remote" option followed by FTP option and then add a remote location. When adding the remote location I add the IP address and port. There is a space for username and password but I don't know what to put in there ? I tried just leaving those blank and choosing anonymous but it didnt connect.
I see on the youtube video for this that the uploader already has a FTP location created with username and password populated but doesnt show how this is done.
Anyone have an idea of what I am doing wrong ? Thanks
The watch needs to be awake or it shuts off the WiFi connection, you can try to do it while charging watch to keep it awake.
Note: on the other device just use the browser and ftp:// IP address : port
I was playing about with it this morning and found the issue. I was using the default port of 4045 on the file manager on the watch which is blocked. Tried to use Chrome browser to access and was given ERR_UNSAFE_PORT message. Changed the port to 2000 and all worked OK.
Would be great now if a new feature was put out in next release to allow for either increase in lock time or enable/disable function
Hello, I just tried to install this free app Wifi File Transfer apk from https://apkpure.com/wifi-file-transfer/com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer and it's working really great!
I used adb to install it.
Once installed click on it to launch it, it is true that the screen is small but you can navigate by dragging up with the finger, the upper part of the app to "start" button then click on it. Then a message appears to check that everything works, click on the "V" green then a "stop" button appears, drag with your finger without clicking on "stop" the upper part, the link appears which can be used to connect by an internet browser (any of them)
Click on "Stop" to stop the app.
Pros: you can access all the files of your watch and for example transfer themes directly into your watch without having to connect it to your computer. Another advantage, you can use any computer or device with web browser connected to the same wifi as the watch. So it will work with your smartphone too.
Cons: do not stay too long connected because your battery will not like too much ...

Try this File Manager:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphainventor.filemanager
I downloaded it to my phone then exported the app and side loaded to the watch. It works pretty well, it has a button to activate WiFi (no need to go to watch settings). It creates an FTP server on watch you can connect from anywhere in the same WiFi network, even the same app on phone will work. When creating the FTP connection, choose any user name but leave password blank. You may need to activate the useful PaceOn app so the watch won't go to sleep (it closes the WiFi connection). Good luck.

Delete files on the watch? You don't need FTP, you can do it using the file manager itself. As a Plus, you can also uninstall side loaded apps too. Cheers
