Painted BA's paint peel area with Smokey Black - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Accessories

This is how it looks like after being paint.
Sorry i took the whole process on how to do it but accidentally deleted the whole folder from my digicam so i only post how it looks like after its being spray painted.
steps ->
1) Buy a spray paint of your choice (buy a model spray for toys its better)(i regreted buying decoration spray)
2) Disassemble the BA, guide could be found on BA's wiki.
3) To dismantle the sliding plates, just pull out the 2 white studs seen on both lower end of the slides. Then slide the upper plate out leaving the plate with keyboard only.
4) Strip the keyboard from the plate, the keyboard is sticked to the plate by some tape. Becareful, dont rip the keyboard ribbon.
5) Use light duty tape to cover the area which u dont want to get it painted. Example-> slider area, connectors, teflon(for smooth slides, got a couple of white ones and few black ones.)
6) Spray the plate slowly around 4 times, each very thin coat. (Leaving to dry 10mins every intervals. For total dry, leave for 2 hours)
7) Assemble the BA together again.
There u go.. arh.. i wish i had not delete the pics.. DAMN~ my effort all gone.. sorry again for no pics.

Looks nice ! Great work.
A few questions: did you applied any varnish ? why is the keyboard (not the keys itself) not painted ? Your choice or not possible ?

I did not apply varnish, my main concern is not to damage the material (sometimes varnish is nasty). The Keyboard is a whole with the key, its like a full piece of plastic when you ripped them out, i guess it looks ugly if you painted the keyboard.. lol.. so i decided to leave the keyboard a whole to contrast the smokey black at the background.
BTW : i try to paint my O2 mini, i put some stars stickers on the casing be4 painting and peel them off after that.. it looks damn great!!

hahahaha ,the same work .

Does anybody has saw mine?
Nice job i love the design on that black testure on aluminium? whats that I want it!!!
BTW check my thread nice Tutorial for this is there.
Chjeck my signature on !PIMP My BlueAngel!

I was thinking the same thing about doing an paint job on it. Really would love an other cover color for my BA.
Not that it looks bad, because there's not a single scratch on it.
But, well you know, the style is kind of getting old.
Just a flat and black/dark gray look would be nice.
May some of that black rubber paint would do the trick. Gonna check that out and let you know.

im so glad mine is a o2 blue angel cos its a really dark grey and black
p.s. felt tip DOES NOT WORK- just gets your hands smudgy lol

These O2 covers are still availiable for sale. Google it. Prices vary from 20€ TO 50€ for an complete makeover.

wooow, Nice

I was looking at these and the RA (red angel) pictures.. thinking of doing something similar with some pine coloured sticky back palstic i have wood effect anyone..lol

looks like you dont use any primers before you paint it..
but great job..hope it will bond for a long time..

Pimp your Wizard - Case Mods

I'm wondering if anyone has considered modding the housing on their Wizard to change the colour, etc?
I've been looking at using Plasti-Kote to spray my housing black. They reckon it adheres to most surfaces including plastic (although maybe not pre-painted plastic). I'm not quite sure how smooth the finish will be. (If I fubar it I can buy a new housing for £40, although the missus wasn't impressed when I said so.)
If anyone else has done this, considered doing it, or has any other case mod ideas, let's hear about it!
Search for the thread for 'white wizard' pimp. that's nice.
Thanks for the pointer. Here's the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286863
That's pretty sweet. I'll take on board the advice to sand the housing first. I wondered if I'd just be able to paint directly over the top.
I think I would take my device apart too so I didn't have to worry about dust and paint getting somewhere it shouldn't.
Something else you could do and that I bet would look AWESOME would be to see if you could get it powder coated. I know there is a little shop up the road a few miles that has told me they would powder coat something in whatever color I wanted. Could allow for some interesting finishes. I'm picturing maybe some sort of glossy metallic finish or something.

I am not familiar with powder coat. It looks like an interesting technique. According to this website you have to statically charge the item then bake the paint on?
I had also considered black with silver specks but ended up going for solid black in the end. (Maybe next time!)
* You can see my black wizard case mod here.
Usually when I buy RC car bodies they are Clear, you paint the inside to prevent scratching the paint, and it always looks great! Well I found this plastic case HERE Heck I am gonna order a couple and try a few different colors!!
I'd like a white wizard that's real glossy. I'd like the buttons to be white too, but I still want the buttons to display the letters and symbols. also i'm afraid the backlight wouldn't show through the keyboard. I think I have a delima huh?
You can use oven cleaner to strip the paint, just be sure to not leave it on very long or it will cause the top layer of plastic to shrink and crack. I haven't had to strip paint from plastic in a few years but I think it was about 30-40 minutes of soaking.
Regarding the powder coating, the piece to be coated is pretty much always metal because it must be baked in an oven.
Powder Coating wont work on plastic. It will just melt it within a few seconds of baking.
I just bought a wizard on ebay and also a separate case for it. My plan is to sand down the separate case and paint it with a matte black paint, I want to make it look like my macbook.
Yes so easy
See my Signature link PIMP My wizard and please post your jobs it will be nice see other jobs!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427786
can someone help to open wizard's case with picture? all i can see 2 screws behind it which one of them is under stylus
I have a Wizard service manual but I can's seem to get it uploaded. If you know of another way to get it to you I will gladly send it along.
MDA or 8125 style?
On my signature see PIMP My Wizard link...???? it has a picture tutorial download it and check your screws maybe it shows right but,..... is for the Qtek 9100 or MDA Vario t-mobile design device.
Service manual:
http://rapidshare.com/files/164116696/HTC_Prodigy_Wizard-Service-Manual.pdf
After reading this and after having repaired my Wiz (came with a cracked screen to begin with) I'm going to take part of my next week (good to have vacation after all....) and use it to mod my Wizard's case. Well, hopefully if everything goes well, you'll see a pimped out Mod B_Edwa style here in a week...

Clear Case+ FORD GT= GT Wizard?!

Ok so I bought a clear case here And while working, I was inspired by A black and silver Ford GT sitting in our shop. Here are the results.
that looks pretty good. may i ask where did you buy your case.
eBay
You can buy it from eBay a seller "e2" in Hong Kong, but shipping just about a full month. I bought 2 and am using none of them. They are garbage because the holders (places where plastic pieces stickout) will scratch your phone no matter what. Overtime, the places where the case is held on the phone will be pressed leaving the paint on the phone depressed and scratched. Otherwise it will protect the phone real good.

They are not the highest in quality, and it took ten days shipping. But it sounds like you need to trim the "flash" around the tabs, you can also cut the tabs off and use little pieces of 2-sided tape, which will solve all of your mentioned problems.. for less than $5.00 and you can paint 'em any color you want, I ain't complaining!

VERY NICE PIMP! Very nice indeeed. an affortable and less dodgy way to do it
What paint you used? And sorry if I am blind, but you painted the cases you bought, not the phone itself, right ?
And BTW, looks ...WOOW
Nice job!
that reminds me of a friend of mine who once owned one of the cheapest polish cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polski_Fiat_125p) and painted id in similar way (actually he made quite lot of modding inside as well, including chrome-metallic parts that resembled washing machine in a way
oh well, there's been a lot of fun with this piece of junk... and the guy's nickname is still "Viper" ;]
oh yeah. i forgot to mention i like this mod a lot, looks very cool!!

I am a Developmental Marketing Technician for Ford Motor Co. I pulled the "Paint Codes" from the door of the GT in the Third Picture. And used PPg enamel paint. I think any paint will work?! And yes I painted the inside. I screwed up the stripes (they should be wider and closer together). But I was in a hurry, I did it on my lunch hour, and still had time to eat! The paint looks really good!! The clear Plastic makes it look like a super thick clear-coat!! I spent a little time on a bench buffer with it. But the paint will never scratch, because it is inside!!
[HINT]
Oh yeah, a little Tip if you decide to try!!! After spraying the inside, no matter how well you mask it, you will end up with a mist of paint on the outside. A little polishing compound and a soft rag removes it like magic!!
Here is a Link to a picture of the case without the phone
congratulations
anione knows if this clear case exist for i- mate k-jam or qtek 9100??
COGRATULATION AGAIN YOU GIVE ME A GREAT IDEA

Pardon my poor language.. but what do you mean by "flash"?
Just dropped my phone a few hours ago and extremely upset... Luckily it was in its case but a coupla corners still got damaged
I was about to purchase a replacement housing but seeing this post, this would be a much cheaper alternative... Just gotta think of a theme now and find an artist...
Do you know if anyone sells it without that circle on the back?

Flash means when a plastic piece is cast, a small amount of plastic is left over that needs to be trimmed, or it could leave a jagged edge.
The circle on the back gives it a stable base when you lay the phone down...
could you share the gt theme?

man, why dont they sell these cases in the stores?????
that's a pretty damn good job, nice work!!
My wizzard 's casing is pretty beat up due to me dropping it, just laying it down on concrete, etc. I'm really thinking about actually sanding and 'polishing' the body of it to make it more shiny/get rid of scratches....and then buy a hardcase to go over that...
Wow... tahts the nicest case i've ever seen. Nice job... you should resell your case... =]
I did the same thing(well, solid black). It looks awsome from the front, but I cant get the back to really fit to the phone. I don't know if its my phone or if I just got a bad case.
I think I would have a little trouble returning it painted black though!

UniqueSkins.com

Has anyone used these?
They're the only site I can find that allows you to make a custom decal, I want to make one with some of my favourite pictures all over it lol.
Just wondering if the decals actually cover the whole phone, leaving no visible black casing? And also is the tough anti scratch deal really as good as they say it is?
Thanks,
Steve.
yes i actually have it on my phone right now, no it doesnt cover the whole phone. Just the front and back. The sides are not covered. Hope this helps

Any pics mate?
The more expensive one for $19.99 is the one i'm looking at. It's the scratch resistant ultra tough thing and judging by the designer that one does cover the sides:
http://www.uniqueskins.com/design.php?prod=920&opt=1648
But when I meant does it cover the whole phone I meant in size wise, for example is it a perfect fit or is the front decal slightly too small or too big etc.
you should look on ebay. they sell 3 skins for like $10 more or less, and theyre pretty good. they dont really offer any real protection because theyre more like decals/vinyls but what i do(and apparently the seller too) is i put the skin on, then over that i put a clear case. looks really good
they fit well also. the only thing i think you might not like is the part that goes on the back, it covers the back well, but just doesnt cover the corners. these arent super high tech skins. basic. but! the quality of the picture/design on the skin is amazing

I want a custom Decal of all my pics of me any my mates hence why using UniqueSkins.
Great
I just bought a custom scratch resistant skin from there and they are excellent in quality luckily I had found a coupon and paid only 15 dollars with shipping.
I have ordered mine, cost was $19.68 with 25% off coupon (am in the UK, selected the UPS shipping).
Once it arrives, I'll do a mini review and post a few coupons.
Does every part of the skin get colored or do parts remain transparent ?
For example if i make a simple logo will the skin be the logo on a colored background or the logo and the rest is clear ?

I think anything not covered will be printed in white, I'm not 100% sure because I covered everything but if you add just 1 item and press preview anywhere you haven't covered is in white.
However I can confirm that anything you upload which is transparent, stays transparent. So you could make a solid black block to stretch across the skin then make the background of your image transparent.

Chipped paint

Hey all,
I currently have the white SGS2 which I completely love. I don't like using a case due to the size and so far other than one tiny scratch on the screen I've only ran into one problem. The chrome colored border on the front face of the phone is chipping in all four corners. Wondering if anyone knows and good ways to touch this up? It could be as simple as model paint or something, I don't know. Just wanted to ask any advice you guys would have for a problem like this, want to keep it looking sharp. Any opinions welcome, sorry for the odd question. Thanks!
Probs work out cheaper to buy a new shell then it would to prep, prime and paint.
use a black marker ,it makes the chipped paint hardly visible.i think its the best if u dont use a case ...but still for some protection use a tansparent gel case..ur device is white so its very thin case an ull enjoy ur white color too....

HELP: REPAINT battery cover of Samsung Galaxy Alpha !

Hello everyone,
As the title suggests I wanna make a little modification on my Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Since I got a new spare rear battery cover around I decided to take the already stock and used one and repaint it. So, I masked the rear of the cover and removed the rear "SAMSUNG" badge carefully letter by letter.
The problem is I'm not sure how to do it and what paint to use so not to lose the "stock texture" completely. How to remove the current paint? What kind of preparation should I do and what paint I should use?
The current stock color of the cover is black but I will probably paint it bright yellow and the "SAMSUNG" badge black (gloss or matte). The cover has a weird rubberized feel and I've no idea what to do to make it look cool with the new paint and not to destroy the texture. I already got a yellow enamel paint but no idea if it will work and how many coats it will take to change from black to yellow.
HELP! Thanks!
Why would you even do that?

Well probably I'd never make use of the spare cover I have, so I decided to turn it into something interesting. It's a little mod for making it "unique" without taking any risk. (it's just a cover) But anyway, I need some help here.
I found some acrylic enamels that seem suitable. Probably because the surface is matte style I will have to use matte yellow instead of gloss. The thing is how to break a little bit the old paint since sandpaper would obviously damage the texture. Maybe alcohol or aceton?
Thanks

100% Alcohol.
Or you can try a hairblower, the thing to dry hair.
-SIGNATURE-
Think this question can be better answer in other forum, I trying my best to answer:
A) Try your paint on the back of the cover given they are of same material
B) I am not sure what masking paper you use but I will rather use those for scale models which works best to avoid paint bleed.
