I need some advice, I've tried replacing my screen and now it doesn't even light up, let alone display anything...
At the start of the summer I was messing around with a boomerang and believe it or not it smashed at great speed into my v1605 Hermes. Even though I had it in its case, the screen had some cracks and some parts not showing anything. I carried on using it like that for a while and started looking for a replacement screen. I found and bought one on Ebay.
Screen replacement, 1st attempt
The first screen that I received showed only a white screen when booted up. I tried fitting it many times with the same result and when I put my cracked screen back in it still worked, so I presumed it was a faulty screen and sent it back.
Second screen
After some dialogue with the company I bought the screen from, I was sure that the second screen would work, but when I fitted it I got nothing, it didn't even light up... just to check, I put in my old screen and got the same... it doesn't light up or display anything even though my Hermes boots as normal.
Help!
Is there anyone who can suggest what might be wrong and what I can do to fix it? Please?
Screen for sale
It may be that I've completely messed my Hermes up, in which case I now have a mint condition replacement screen, pm me any offers, although I won't be selling until I'm sure I can't fix this problem.
Hi , sorry i cannot help you in this thing but how much is your screen for sale?
The screen cost me fifty euros. I'd sell it on for the same price if I can't fix it... plus postage at cost.
Can't anyone help with this please???
Hi fellas,
Recently got a brand new QTEK 8500 for my nephew, just 16 right now but the deal was nice so I went ahead. He's been delighted with the phone, at least until this afternoon...
A while ago he has shown me his broken/cracked external screen. Being young and somewhat careless I've told him he probably hit the phone against something without noticing, yet he's kept telling me that was not the case; the screen still has the original protection film and not a single scratch. After speaking with my sister (nephew's mother), I got a bit suspicious so went and googled some evidence about the fragility of this phone's outer display. Check here for example:
Cingular 3125 too fragile? Cracked external LCD
Cinguler 3125 external screen broken, Replacements?
Cingular 3125 | Comments
You see where I ended up... It's surprising I haven't been able to find any related thread here. I'm really wondering if none of you has had a single cracked screen from regular use on this device
Anything to tell anyone? I'm going to email HTC tomorrow and see what they have to say about this; not putting much hope tough
Cheers,
Barkuti
I am on of the first QTEK 8500 User in Austria (i think so LOL) my device is in Business use over 2 Years!! My device have hit the ground ... i have kick the phone on the wall after some on bug me a lot ... what ever.

the display is robust like razor v2 or better
No Issues for over four years. Possible cause for your screen failing is flexing as this is the weekest mode. Particular problems with tight pockets, dropped into a book bag or back pack against other objects, etc...
i must say for the months that i used my startrek, the case got rather beat up, but had no problems with the screens. the phone works great (i love the clamshell, but missed the touchscreen and keyboard of ppc's). More than likely he hit the corner of something that landed on the ext. display
I had a similar thing happen int he first week of owning the phone. It had been in my pocket and I don't recall hitting against anthing, but the screen was shattered internally. No marks of any sort on the outside.
Major bummer.
The same old story.Mine too had a cracked lcd without even letting the lid to close on its own force I was closing it it very gently. Some of them might be defective (Different production lines?).They have so many reports but they will not accept it
Well. It may be a tough old brick, but it's not THAT tough.
I fell over on a train, landed on my laptop bag, and smashed my Athena. The case is bent slightly, the screen initially displayed half in a sort of halftone, then a crack became visible and no more display. It's still powering up, trying to connect, etc.
Insurance has paid out, and in the meantime I upgraded my Vodafone contract to an E90, changed the E90 ID, flashed latest firmware and got Vodafone to unlock it (all in 12 hours from getting it) so have a decent data friendly phone on T-Mobile again.
I'm going to hook the Ameo up with the VGA adaptor and see if it works with that still. I was able to make calls with it when the screen was dead, and the HD can be heard to spin up correctly.
I'm left with accessories, an LG Style-i, and a Piel Frama case.
Now, I'd be interested in either obtaining a new case and screen (including the front camera cover; my lens fell out!), or wondering if the working components have any value. It is unlocked and has the latest T-Mobile release of WM6.
I also have a smashed-screen, radio bricked Universal.
You know there are so many bricked Athena around. It might make sense to take the screen and casing from one of those and savage at least a fully working system.
Well, if anyone has a bricked Athena for "safe to experiment and possibly fail horribly" price, then I'm interested.
You can always get a new housing over at brandos for 100 US Dollar with all the included buttons.
How much do you want for your broken Athena?
I want it for testing.

Hi,
Today I've noticed a little white spot only visible under white/light colors background.
This picture isn't very clear (it is much more visibile than it seems) but I think it gives an idea.
Any one with the same problem? My phone never fell, doesn't have a single scratch and I always carry it inside the leather case.
Since I bought it through expansys do I have to send it back to them or can I go directly to an official repair center here in Portugal ?
I have the same, in similar(or the same) place. It is just slightly brighter spot.
Also ordered it from Expansys, but I am not going to send it back for replacement now. Do not want to loose my Leo for few weeks, I just love this phone
I have a similar white spot on my screen too. It wasn't present when I bought it. I can't understand what generated it.
I Too
I had the same problem. I bring my phone to service. They replace touch display with new one (I have 2 year warranty ).
I have the same problem. Sent it back to seller and now waiting for almost 4 weeks for repairs.
fortunately i have no that white spot...
Same problem here, sent it direct to HTC and they replaced the screen.
it also happened to me.
i had that problem, the only difference is i know where i got it from. i was sitting on a seat and the phone was put under some pressure and the screen stuck to itself thats the only way i can describe it. then it poped back out and left that strange white mark where it had stuck to itself, so thats a lesson to me (and you) do not under any circumstances have your phone in your pocket when sitting down. i had it repaired under warrenty and every things ok now, i make sure i dont pressure the screen at all now!!
Have a look at this thread (in which there is another as well):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5668097
i had the same problem. just got it back after i brought it in and they replaced the screen. i didn't even begin to try anything myself. now it'd perfect again.
good luck!
cheers, ftrippie
I have a white spot to, right in the middle of the screen, and its the backlight that comes thru a lite more. Nothing that bothers me though since it's not really a defect - unless you don't want it to be, of course.
I sent my HD2 to the service because of the white spot....They told me it will take between 3-10days (I suppose it is the standard response).
Now let's wait....
I had a thread about this too. Very annoying so I emailed HTC and they told me to send it to a service centre for repair.
The problem is that I bought mine on Ebay and after they have the serial number they've told me it was bought in Czech republic so it has to be sent there.
I don't fancy doing that really - what bloody difference does it make which centre it goes to? ALL of these phones are still under warrantee so it shouldn't matter!!
Mine was assembled in Czech republic too but this is happening for all HD2 sold here. I will call Monday to check if they should replace the screen here or they have to send it there.
Today I've got back my HD2 from service after 12days.
They changed the screen and made me a rom update to 1.66.479.2.
Im having the same problem, the CPU is causing it. when you have "overheated" your phone, you can see it. I'm having a very cleary seeable rectangle in the screen. currently im E-mailing with HTC Support for Replacing the screen, or the whole phone!
This is exactly the issue I has, white blurry patches started appearing on my screen, with one in particular very prominent. I re-flashed the network firmware off the memory card, removing the HSPL and returned it to O2 for repair. I got it back 8 days later with a brand new screen.

You clearly have a different issue if you think that.
I had my screen replaced due to this problem & now only 2 months after I have the same problem and getting progressivly worse. Not Happy.
I am lost without my phone, it was hard enough the first time, waiting ages as they didn't have any screens in stock!! nevermind the thought of having to send it off again for a second time!!!
Really bloody annoying but my new screen is starting to develop the same issue. As I said above I had my previous screen replaced because of this a few months back and now I can see some more appearing. I can only assume HTC use bad quality LCDs because I have a 2g iPhone which is nearly 3 years old and it has never suffered with this and hasn't been treated any different than my Leo.
I'm not amused but I will send it back again to be repaired, using sub-standard components will cost them more than me.
White Spot visible on light backgrounds
Same here - refer attached.
Have made background darker to highlight this white spot.
The white spot resembles a 'feathered effect' as opposed to a 'solid spot'.
Red circle shows actual white spot on screen (may not be visible when viewing from a monitor / notebook), hence my attached image with darkened area.
It is only visible on light backgrounds.
Just to mention, I sent in my HD2 to LEAF South Africa yesterday May 13 2010, who completed the repair the same day!!!
LEAF really are superb in South Africa and a credit to HTC.
Thank you Wayne Parkinson of LEAF SA who took care of the details (as always), and their dedicated Support/Repair Team who did the rest.
Beat that HTC Worldwide
My sympathies to those experiencing delays.
Just bring your device to South Africa.
(No wonder the FIFA World Cup was awarded to our neck of the woods!)
I have a similar issue only that its only visible when viewing a bright screen and at a wide angle I see some light spot, its impossible to see it when viewing the screen directly. Can you tell me if it a spot on the screen or below it, or some deffect on the lcd. If its on the surface of the screen how do I safely try to remove it.
I purchased this phone from T-Mobile when they were first released. It has been my hacking baby. I recently upgraded to the s7 edge (skipped the s6 bc no removable storage) and it got passed down to my 15 y/o niece, who lives with us, as do my mother and father (her legal guardians.) She really, *really* wanted the iPhone 6 Plus instead. In short order, my babied, perfectly tweaked, mint condition S5, was brought to my mother as being completely broken. Wouldn't turn on, black screen, nothing worked. So she got her iPhone 6 Plus and I have my old S5's corpse. The thing is, when I went to boot it to see how "broken" it was and if I could fix it, it booted just fine. The twist is the screen colors are all too cool (weirdly cool), and it goes black periodically until you flex it. I hooked it up to my laptop and Odin not only recognized it, but I was able to flash the last firmware tar I had. I'm guessing she bent it to get it to "break", which is why flexing it fixes the screen blacking out, but am clueless about the colors (was hoping the flash would fix it, but no.) Any ideas on the cause? Am I looking at replacing the entire lcd/touch/glass assembly, or is the motherboard now questionable because of the flexing issue?
I've attached a pic of what the phone colors look like with Odin on in the background. I'd love any suggestions!

I don't know the current prices on the lcd but OEM ones are expensive as hell. I broke my s3 or s4 screen (can't remember) and an OEM lcd screen (the entire assembly not just the glass) was in the $300 dollar range.
But mother board should be good I'd imagine, probably just the screen, but gotta ask yourself is it worth fixing a 2 years old back up phone?
