I have been looking everywhere for information on this. Is pass-though possible with the Cingular 3125, using Cingular's newest ROM? When I plug my phone into my computer, it isn't able to see the Internet at all because that automatically disables GPRS. I would really like to use my laptop's much faster Wifi connection. If that isn't possible, can I at least keep GPRS on?
thanks in advance
Try from active sync's settings->connection settings to put-> My computer is connected with:
internet
Yes, that is set. Still no luck. Does this work for you? I remember one of my former Windows Mobile devices (I think the Motorolla MPX220) had an option for Pass-though in the settings, but I don't see it anywhere on the 3125.
I didn't have any problem with that. Now I use the greek qtek rom but before I used the cingular rom for some weeks and I never have problem with internet connection via active sync.
hrm... anyone currently running the current Cingular ROM able to help me out?
First to make clear that I used this rom that you talking about without internet connection problems.
Sometimes helps to uninstall, reboot and reinstall active sync. Like this some problems solved.
And if you have a bluetooth device on your pc you can try to connect to active sync via bluetooth, and check if the internet works in that case.

I updated my 8525 with the official AT&T AKU 3.5.2. When I enable Internet Sharing and connect the phone via USB to my Mac, it kills Bluetooth and nothing happens.
With AKU 3.3, this was not an issue. I tried it on a Macbook Pro and a Macbook with the same result. No problem using Bluetooth PAN, but slow.
Just for the fun of it, I tried Internet Sharing with Windows XP running in Parallels, and it works fine via USB cable.
Anyone having the same issue? Any registry hacks or drivers to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance.

There must be a Mac user here who upgraded t AKU 3.5.
What do you mean by "it kills Bluetooth and nothing happens"?
Does it kill your bluetooth on your mac or on your 8525?
Are you trying to both do internet sharing via USB and connect to your Mac via Bluetooth from your 8525 at the same time?

After I enable ICS on my 8525, and connect the USB cable to MAC, somehow, the bluetooth on my MAC gets disabled [Bluetooth Not Avaible message with the icon grey out], and my 8525 still says "check USB cable". But, there's no connection. I made sure that BT is disabled on my phone, and PC to USB is unchecked.
Just as a test, I connected my 8525 to another MAC that doesn't even have Missing Sync and the same thing happened. With ICS on, USB connection basically disables Bluetooth. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why that happens. USB shouldn't interfere with Bluetooth.
In the meantime, it works fine with PC.
Hope someone can shed some insight.

I see the same thing on AKU 3.5 and Tiger 10.4.9 when I just tried it. Once 10.4.9 came out and supported PAN, I stopped using the USB connection. I still get 400kbps or so with Bluetooth, so there's I don't really have a reason to use USB (plus the Hermes drains a MacBook Pro's battery rather fast - I can drain a notebook battery in an hour with the phone plugged in vs. 3 hours without).
Jmat, thanks for the reply. It's good to know that it's not just my phone. I hope this can be fixed though. I do use BT PAN with OS X 10.4.9, but it would be nice to have the USB option since it's about 2x faster.
I cannot understand why USB connection would wipe out Bluetooth on my MAC though.
I know someone here will figure it out.
eh, 10.4.9 supports pan? news to me. i use my pc more than my mac, so i think i only have 10.4.8. i have the latest aku (as far as i know) from the newest cingular rom. i'll give it a shot.
Internet Sharing + OS X
I was able to tether 8525 to powerbook G4 thru bluetooth for internet connection. Then clicking the dropdown for the phone icon and clicking bluetooth. It would dial then authenticate, and I would be connected to the internet. In doing that, I needed to download Tytn modem script for mac modem, it worked great! However, I recently upgraded the ROM (2.06)on the 8525, and now Internet Sharing is the protocol for for Wireless Modem. This method directs the device to connect thru bluetooth by joining the network associated with the Pocket PC, once connected in the bluetooth icon dropdown, I try to access webpages and I get "Not Connected to the Internet."
I've heard of AKU, can someone please refresh my memory, and will it be necessary to update to correct my issue?
Can someone please assist me with using the 8525 to tether with a Powerbook G4 to connect to the internet?
**NOTE** Also, MissingSync for 8525 does not work since the ROM update. I was never successful connecting to it thru BT, but it worked great thru USB. Now I try to connect thru USB , the connection is lost when attempting to start MissingSync app. Any Ideas??
Thank you

Internet Sharing + OSX
I've been using my Hermes to connect to the internet from my powerbook for a few month (BT connection). It was working OK although conflicting with direct push.
Since I upgraded to AKU 3.3 and use internet sharing, it is now much more reliable, connects fast and transparently.
I recently got MissingSync to work, by enabling advanced USB settings thru the phone.
My other issue that is still unresolved is that when I connect the BT PAN from the phone, and join network from the BT setting from the MAC, I connect successfully, but I still can not access internet on MAC. It appears that there are internal settings that need to be altered to access web pages once connected thru BT PAN/Internet share? Any Ideas, please help! Thank you.

Can you tell me how you set up the connection? I've paired my Hermes and Powerbook, turned internet sharing on, I can join the PAN network but the Powerbook refuses to connect to the internet.
PB PAN
Have you set your network conf to Automatic?
I have a TomTom Go 910 and an M3100 running WM6.
I have been using the hands-free BT connection with no problem.
However, I recently tried to set up a data connection to access TomTom Plus services through the phone over BT, and the setup routine fails every time. (I have no problem connecting to the internet over WAP from the phone in general).
Of course, TomTom support refuse to help, telling me that the phone is not supported for the 910. According to them I should not even be able to use the hands-free feature...
Before I go spending hours trying different ROMs and BT stacks etc., does anyone out there have the same setup (even with a 710 or 510) and got it to work? (No point wasting time if they are simply not compatible and no one has actually got it to work).
Thanks for your help
My very basic guess is that you need to use the Internet Connection Sharing program on windows mobile, as just paring the devices won't do anything.
So I guess I fire ICS up and and choose Bluetooth PAN and then try to see if TomTom sees it.?
I'll try tonight and report back.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Let us know how it goes. But isn't WM6 lacking either PAN or DUN that's required to establish the connection?
No luck using ICS

Well, I tried it... no luck. TomTom still insists on going through a DUN setup routine (entering access point, GPRS dial-up number, etc.) and promptly fails both with automatic and manual setup. It does not detect the PAN already running with ICS connected.
I wonder if DUN can be ported back to WM6 with CABs from WM5?
Any other ideas?
Hello i have PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.4 and i have a problem when i m connected to a wireless spot, and i want to signin to msn it uses my GPRS connection although i am already connected to the internet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
click cancel on baloon tooltip, and i'm not sure about your rom version, pdaviet maybe?
yes sorry
))) did you solve the problem ?
nope sorry
I'm with rom 4.0.0.3a and I also experience this. I tried using Live messenger connected to activesync through usb cable connection, but instead of using the activesync connection, he tries to connect over gprs!!!! Argghhhhh!!!
Beside iassael, the others who run 4.0.0.4 are also experience this bug??
i think so and i also had the same withh 4.0.0.0.3
well, I don't have wifi by my computer, but I soon will, so I'm interested in this issue...what about trying what this guy says;
It is a solution to a different problem, so maybe a bit of a long shot, but something he says there;
The beauty is that Windows mobile knows it needs to use the "GPRS Internet", only when other connections are not present.
Now you don't have to mess with selecting a proxyless connection when connecting to a WiFi source, or using activesync

did you fix it?
I dont see how this will work. If default is set to not GPRS, you have to have wifi or connected to computer. it will not use GPRS as backup. at least i havent been able to get it to think that way on WM5 and WM6.
any solutions to the login problems using ? I still couldn't access MSN with PDAVIET 4.0.0.0.4 ROM
Hello all, I have the xv6800, dcd rom 3.3.4 and activesync and internet sharing setup on Windows just fine. However, I have recently gotten a MAC, and I have not been able to get the internet sharing to work via BT or USB. I can understand BT cause I was never able to get it set up on windows either. I don't mind the USB connection, it's alwasy been more stable and a snap to set up with the ROM. However I can't get it working on the MAC. Is there a driver or app that needs to be installed on the mac side? The only think I remember doing on the WIN side is installing the modem driver.
On Mac, I have installed Missing Sync installed and I have been able to attach and sync my winmo phone without issue, so I know I have connection. but I cannot get the internet sharing to work. I checked out the verizon site and they state that they do not make a modem driver for the mac os.
I should also mention that I have winXP set up on the mac thru VMware, but I have been unsuccessful getting this to work the way my original windows laptop is setup. I dont want to set it up that way anyway if I can avoid it.
I am curious if anyone has this working via USB?? I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere. I couldn't find anything related and certainly not specific to this ROM.
I did find this, http://www.keithtastic.com/post/3997...-to-sprint-htc, but it states to buy an app called USB Modem program from www.mobile-stream.com. but wouldnt the ISC app on the dcd rom provid the same functionality?
Thanks for any/all help

then just use internet sharing form the phone as normal?
no offense but that didnt help at all. I can connect my phone via BT themac sees it, but all I can do is browse device. I need to set up a connection with my phone to the mac and get online via my phone. I dont careif its bluetooth or not. I have the new macbook btw, if it matters
goon55: Like you, I always used a VM workaround to tether back when I had a Mac. I haven't tried this, but I've heard Syncmate allows Internet Sharing on Mac systems. Good luck!
I have no issues connecting my macbook for my 6800.
After you set it up like the other poster told you to, you should have a phone icon next to the bluetooth icon at the top right of the screen. click the phone icon then "connect bluetooth".

also when setting up the BT relationship, make sure you select the network services (i believe, there are one or two services you can check)...on the phone make sure you start BT and internet sharing (with BT selected) and when you go to the BT menu on the mac, your phone name should be under "devices", expand your phone name and select connect to network.
just trying to clarify a bit.
i had it
i had bt working for a bit and then was disconnected abruptly.
after deleting the profiles of the pairings on both the titan and the mac, it still wont share the connection although the phone will be connected in bt system prefrence pane, (where you select devices).
when it worked, i would select the phone in the device select, and underneath clicking on the gear to a menu option to 'connect to network'
it worked that wayfor 3 mins.
also, when i configure the device, if i set the phone to internet share while the mac is discovering the services, i get two options to select instead of just one:
access the internet
use device as network port.
edit: got it, apple talk active
best software you can use is http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ it works over BT or wifi and uses your phone's regular data access address which means you don't get tethering charges. NOTE I use the free version, and I have tried the tiral and although it does work, my mogul does not seem to like it and has little quirks after I install it (wifi turns on when I reset even if the switch is off, I don't why but its there).
Hi everyone, I've been trying to use my Windows Mobile phone as a modem for the Macbook, but so far I only see people being able to connect via BT. Problem with that for me is that BT drains both my laptop and phone battery quicker, so I'm trying to find a solution to connect via USB instead. Has anyone been able to surf on their Mac using their Windows Mobile phone as a modem via USB cable?
What you want is Mobile Stream USB Modem for Windows. Windows here being Windows Mobile, it works with my Mac.
Once you set it up, your phone is seen as a USB Modem and you dial from the Mac to this port. There is a free trial, take time to test it, read the forums, I had some initial issues to get it work right, but now it is good, I ended up purchasing it.
Tried BT sharing too, but too instable and drops. Tried the WiFi sharing, but eats battery...
Only downside: as you dial the data modem, it will fail if it is already in use (background email checking on your phone...). I have to disconnect the data connection on the phone to be able to dial from the Mac, otherwise it reports Port Busy.
Thanks for the recommendation, will try it out. Any other solutions in the meantime to connect and share the Internet connection from my Windows Mobile phone to Mac via USB?
I had the same problem, and tried everything recommended in the thread - no dice. I ended up just installing WMWifiRouter and that works like a champ.
http://networkjew.com/2009/03/30/tether-windows-mobile-phone-mac/
This is for cingular, but I'm sure this can be attempted no matter what the provider.
I've been looking for a solution as well, and have yet to find one for USB Internet Sharing on a Mac. I currently just use Bluetooth with an external charger on the phone and laptop since it'll eat the battery of both quickly.
I feel like I need to 1st explain that although I don't post here often I'm not an absolute noob. I load a new ROM about every 30 days and used Tierman before advancing to Sashimi. Ever since the 6.5 roms dropped I've been unable to see my Titan from ANY laptop/desktop. I'm looking for others with the same issue and/or if this is a known issue that has been resolved.
Tried RyanMogul6800 2.2 Heavy
Tried JUSTPCTECH 6.5 Rom
Tried an un-named 6.5 Rom prior to the 21501 release
Same issue on all of these roms, SSID/PPC not visible
Device is a 6800 Alltel branded on the Alltel network
WMWifirouter version is 1.35
Tried deleting the wifi listing on the pc's/laptops
Tried re-installing WmWifirouter
Tried rebooting everything
Tried changing hardware switch to control ringer on/off instead of wifi
Tried manually powering on wifi via Comm Manager
I know wmwifirouter started out testing here so I hope they see this post but I will be accessing my paid support with wmwifirouter to submit a support ticket.
Has anyone else experienced this?
What did you do to fix it?
Try going into settings, connections, Wireless LAN, change power mode to best performance. Then go into settings, connections, wifi and if any connections are in there delete them. Make sure no connections are attempting to connect. Now turn on wifi switch and go back into wifi settings. Pick to see ad hoc only and create new. Make a name and make it an ad hoc connection, pick open connection no security protection. Finish. Now using wifi on a laptop/desktop refresh the wifi and you should now see your connection. Quick tip when using WmWifirouter. Make sure nothing is connected to your PPC's adhoc connection. Have the wifi switch enabled BEFORE turning on WMwifirouter, Once its connected you can then use a desktop or laptop and connect to the PPC, and dont turn the WIFI OFF until you have quit WMwifirouter. I use the network plugin to access shared folders on my PC to transfer music etc.. Also make sure the wifi on the PC is not set up to share its own connection. That will interfere with the networking with the wifi on the PPC. Let me know if you get wi-fi working.
Thanks and I'm trying that now..only thing is I've been using WMWifirouter cince before it was 1.0 and it always worked fine. While i'm trying your suggestion is their anything different with 6.5 that would have me manually connecting.
I'm used to setting up wmwifirouter in the office and letting 2 otherppl access it and just GO! This happens on Vista, XP, and Windows 7 (I'm an MSDN subscriber). Anyhow trying your suggestions and let me know about 6.5 if you goet a sec.
Thanks
Tried it and my network showed up for a sec but when I tried connecting it timed out and then never showed up again. USB to 3G works fine and I tried ur suggestion on Vista & XP. Still pokin away. Hope sumthin works out!
Just a side note. My wifi IP on the 6800 is always all 0's 0.0.0.0 Shouldn't it be 192.16.3.1 and DHCP is enabled BTW
I'm experiencing a similar problem and have tried several 6.5 builds, including my own from the ppckitchen. WIFI will work for some time and then stop. It will work again for a short time after rebooting but then will stop once more.
So after JustPCTechs (I prefer Ryans Rom) rom i am back on RyanMogul's heavy & it's still not working. I like many people looked at others with this issue like it's something they are doing wrong but I am an EVERY DAY user of wmwifirouter. I cancelled my itnernet at the house simply because Alltel's unlimited was so fast. I even had the kid's Xbox 360 running through it.
So I'm still stuck with no wifi for wmwifirouter. Even after Ryan's suggestions. I know other people have this problem. I just wish you guys would speak up so we can collect data on this issue and resolve it for real.
No disrespect to the very talented individuals whom have assisted me so far. You and your work are greatly appreciated.
I'm also verifying the problem exists. Also I cannot connect my home pc's internet through the USB cable to the phone anymore. I have verified this same problem with all 3 of the 6.5 roms I've tested. I tried ryan's suggestion but to no avail. Looks great though!!
For the issue of the PPC not being able to use your PC's internet through USB cable you may want to try going into settings/connections/connection settings/select network. Make the top drop down menu My work network and the bottom drop down menu make your Carrier ex:Cricket, MetroPCS, etc.. That way should use your WAP when unplugged and use the PC's home connection when plugged in. That would then be normal operation.
SOLVED:
So I was poking around in the 6800 and I never use wifi because Alltel is SOOO fast. I saw a saved network connection ON THE 6800 to wmwifirouter. I thought it was odd since I asked wmwifirouter to dynamically create the network each time instead of storing it.
After doing that I was able to consistently see the 6800 from any device.
So Comm Manager / wireless Lan/ delete wmwifirouter
I've had the usb issue a long time ago and it is not the same.

If you notice i already said to delete existing wi-fi connections. So my first responses were your solution. you just overlooked it.. take care glad your sorted out.
I guess I did and let me make this real clear for anyone reading this later on. Wmwifirouter creates a wifi connection ON YOUR PPC DEVICE - TO YOUR PC DEVICE.
So when people tell you to delete all wifi connections and you delete the one on your laptop/desktop don't forget (like i did) to delete it on the ppc as well. I never knew thats how wmwifirouter worked. Learn somethin new every day. Thanks to all that helped.

In my instructions it is telling you to delete the connections off of the PPC.. Any connection on your PC would not automatically connect unless u had a matching ad hoc connection on ur PPC. I provided the fix and u overlooked/misunderstood it. I am glad you got ur wifi back up and running.
