Any way to overclock this cpu ? i tried using scaler 2007 but it crashes, even batterystatus doesnt work, the battery is already crap, but i'd take performance over battery any time.

no overclocking tool avaliable! no developer have the right cpu commandos in the moment. qualcomm use a ARM9, but this is not enough infos.possible in the future ... now i doesnt see any way to get a tool in the next months!

Alright, then I'm sorry Google couldn't answer your question. (Which is odd, since overclocking is kinda popular.)
Anyways, Overclocking means to "Make the CPU go faster than it was designed for". Some devices "like the hero" can jump from 518mhz to a stable 691mhz by overclocking, this increases the speed of the CPU so that programs and the OS can work faster.
But overclocking is about finding the highest speed, while having the stability to use it. Since it's no use to overclock, if it makes your phone unusable to use. (Force closes, phone freezing etc.)
Overclocking CAN harm your device, if you take a too high value. But if you stay inside a stable zone, there shouldn't be any harm to your device.
You can experience that the phone is getting a bit hot, or that the battery is emptied faster than normal.
Since the CPU drains so much power, there are settings that allow to set a different clock (how fast the device should go in mhz) when the phone is at sleep. So that it can run at a much lower frequency, when you don't use it.
ROM developers normally post ( 691/197 ) or something at their thread, the first number is the CPU speed when it's on and you're using it. And the other is when the phone is at sleep.

Overclocking increases the clock speeds of a CPU. And as a result means it can do *things* faster.
Overclocking on a desktop PC tends to increase the voltages to overclock the device over this isn't really an option on a phone as it has limited battery life. So overclocking on a phone is normally done by software changes. When CPU makers make a CPU they can not be 100% accurate on the performance of that chip - in fact its very much the opposite, so after each chip is made it is tested and then given a clock speed and locked to that, overclocking breaks that and allows you to manually increase the clock, however overclocking capabilities will be different on every device.
If you take an example of an Intel Chip, a 2.66GHz Core-2-Duo, this is exactly the same chip as the 3.06GHz however when tested it wouldn't run as fast so Intel sell it at a stable clock speed.
Overclocking the hero shouldn't really have any implications for the device, however overclocks can reduce the life-time of a CPU (and any other hardware you might overclock). You shouldn't notice much extra heat from the device as the voltages being used are not changing.

I recently stumbled upon Hakeem's thread, which details the necessary configurations to extend the battery life of the HD2 running Android. One of the key configurations is to use SetCPU to underclock the device from 1GHz to around 600MHz.
I really want to try it out, but my bf told me it might be risky. He said that since the CPU is now running at a lower clockspeed, it might lead to HD2 overheating if I were to run multiple applications (compared to the default, 1 GHz config). I'm no techie, so I really don't know if what he's saying is true.
Are there any risks associated with underclocking the HD2 using SetCPU? Thanks a bunch!

I have used SETCPU on my device for 1 whole month, there is nothing bad happens and it is safe.
In addition, you can install this app "current widget" or put a SETCPU on your homescreen to track your device temperature. This is the safest way.

As opposed to overclocking, underclocking shouldn't pose any risks. You are basicly running your CPU at a lower frequency than designed, so your device will be cooler to start with. Even when maxing your CPU load, by running a lot of apps, your CPU is operating under its designed capacity. It will therefore never get hotter than a stock HD2 running full load at 1Ghz.
Furthermore there are built in safeguards to prevent catastrophic overheating. So basicly its safe and you should have no issues. Except, maybe, insufficient CPU capacity when running a lot or a heavy app.

He's an idiot. If you make it faster, its generating more heat, if you pump up the voltage it makes more heat. There is no possible way for lowering it to cause it to run hotter.
If you are that concerned, create a profile in set CPUto lower CPU and use conservative when temp reaches a certain point.

FROM WHAT I READ that if you underclock to the wrong level you can damage things that needs a desired amout of cpu ...if not it can stop working i wll find my source and post it later

My HD2 is locked to 245mhz - 400mhz when on a black screen (so locked.) When in use it fluctuates between 245 - 998mhz depending on usage.
had it this way for months. No ill affects and makes the battery last that little bit longer.

pros- increased speed and less lagging,

Yeah. Root your phone, and install SetCpu, and you can Underclock freely and thus save lots of battery

Overclock will give you temporary boosts and lets you to showoff, and to get super high benchmark scores , but its not for regular use
Overclocking reduces battery performance and increases heating of device, which might cause your device to get unstable
and of course high temp = bad for the hardware so be careful
My SE mini works very well at 1610 Mhz.No crash,no instability but I use high frequency for max 2-3 hours or when I want to play without lagging

Overclocking is not actually advisable because there are chances that it will affect your phone and might screw it up in the long run .
Battery drain is inevitable and you will experience it .
Phone will heat up
It may not be good for the other internal components because of the over heat-unlike computers a mobile is not actually equipped with much of cooling system.
There is a good reason why the manufacturer has set a clock speed ,otherwise isn't it better for them to just overclock a phone and sell it for a higher price ?

As in most things if you not overdo it you can enjoy the benefits of better performance without risking your phone.My xperia mini is running up to 1200 (1024 stock). Also minimum speed 122 instead of 245.So better performance when you need it and lower consumption when phone is sleeping.Overall i got the same battery life, 2-3 days as with stock rom.The best thing to do is get an app that lets you make profiles.Like when screen is off min cpu 122 - max cpu 384 etc...
I don't know about these new kernels you're talking about but cpu throttling is something stock kernels do also (if by cpu throttling you mean cpu speed adjustment)

1800 is a VERY good starting point.... I ran a kernel when I had the International variant and it was FAST!! I think it was called "Bullet" kernel...?

I was looking stuff up on that today. The highest I could find documented was 1900 on the cpu and 800 on the gpu.
For everyday usage, overclocking is useless, even for gaming. Undervolting can be beneficial, but from what I've seen, the latest processors get approximately the same battery life on stock voltage as they do undervolted.

I just like to play around with different kernels but the kernel I was using def made the device snappier and I had some killer benchmarks! But you are right though! Custom kernels on this device is not really necessary...
I plan on building a custom kernel then, hopefully tomorrow night or possibly Saturday. I do have some plans to improve it, but nothing related to the CPU or GPU going faster, just having other stuff operate better and getting rid of anything not needed.

I hope I don't get another lemon CPU... my TBolt's would only overclock to 1.4G, anything above and it locked up.

HA. My TBolt stayed stable at 1200, but ANYTHING higher than that and it would crap out on me.
I could run my bolt stable at 1700 all day. Kept it at 14 for a month no issues. Stayed at 13 the rest of the time. Course at 17 it was like it was running on a watch battery with the amount of time it would last. Lol
Eh I ran 1.6Ghz on my Thunderbolt 24/7 and with the 2750mah battery it lasted me days.
On a phone like that there was a significant improvement to the end user that justified the overclock. Now on the Note 2 I'd expect there to be very few who would want an overclock at all. I am part of the very few however. I play a lot of emulators on my phone and for N64 and Playstation I need all the raw CPU power I can get. Yep, even on this beast of a phone I still get some lag and stuttering on those emulators. The reason being is the same as PC gaming. AMD thinks that by adding more and more cores to their processors they can win the performance arena. Unfortunately they are wrong. Intel has the right idea, 4 cores is plenty now let's improve the efficiency and performance of those specific cores.
Same goes for our phones. Quad core is the most I'd ever want in my computers, anymore is just a waste. Now let's get better architecture for the processor to maximize clock-for-clock performance. And overclocking those cores helps it in apps that don't support more than one or two cores, because the baseline performance for each core is boosted.
So yeah, can't wait for a 1.8Ghz kernel

Any feed back on your experiences yet? I'm currently looking at this as my next phone.
There is an argument to be had that underclocking it wont make any difference to your battery life (unless you keep it fully loaded for the majority of the time). You better off keeping it at the same max clock speed and experimenting with the guvnor settings. The faster the clock speed, the faster you can get something processed and the sooner you can get the phone back into the lower frequencies the better.
If you half the max clock speed and it takes twice as long to process the data you will end up using the same power normally than if you left it at its default clock speeds. Again whether this will yeild battery savings or not is dependant on how you let the CPU ramp up and down. Id rather have a snappy phone when I need it and concentrate on keeping it at its lowest power conuming mode as much as possible.
