Hi,
at the moment my Radio version is 1.47.00.10. My signal is strong enough, but is there any radio version which positively highlight itself because of less battery consumption?
thanx,

Depends on too many factors which you've not supplied information on. Radio performance varies depending on your network, where you are (country) and coverage and you have not specified any info so people won't be able to help!
Besides, if you stay in good strong signal areas you will only see marginal (if any) differences in battery life by changing the radio. You'd be better off making sure you don't leave services you don't need running (like WiFi/BT/push email) or buying a bigger battery
Ok, thanx for the info. I live in Germany, in Dusseldorf, on Vodafone (DE) network. I'm sure that the coverage here is pretty good. Would that make sense to turn off 3g?

Yes - providing you do not need 3G data speeds or calling features AND your operator provides equally good GSM coverage. GSM (in a good signal area) generally consumes less power.
There is a good little bandswitch plugin for the today screen floating around which makes it easier to switch bands when 3G isn't needed but I can't remember it's name so you will need to do a search in the general Hermes forum...
In terms of your original exploration of a good radio for your network in Germany, it would also be worth looking at the (updated) wiki here and in the last column you'll find links to the forum threads discussing peoples experience with each listed ROM. You don't need to read every post - just take a good selection of posts from the start, middle and end of the thread to get an idea. (first posts are always "wow" - last posts are always "I've got a problem...xxxx", middle posts usually sum up peoples usage after a few days/weeks etc.
If you do decide to test some radios - please play safe, understand what you're doing, use HardSPL (bung Oilipro a few €€€) and bear in mind some users have experienced irreversible hardware issues while using 1.5x.xx radios in Germany, Netherlands and UK so they may carry some risk but this is NOT fully confirmed but is being explored.
If it ain't broke and all that
Have fun!

Lets compile a list of areas with poor reception.
Having looked into options to improve reception, If the xda wasnt such a damned good device I'd hate it as a phone as I just cant use it as a mobile when I'm at home reliably, and lets face it networks lie about temporary faults with coverage.
Saying that, my Motorola V60 is also poor in my area - So I thought if we could all post bad areas anyone interested in buying an O2 xda in the same area would certainly think long and hard before committing to a contract for a year.
GSM/GPRS
Next to no coverage in the lower hill areas in Rusthall near Tunbridge Wells for O2
GPRS doesnt connect sometimes
single dot on antenna symbol, one bar next to it very occasionally.
SMS
SMS sending sporadic
VOICECALLS
Voicecalls are distorted
Other Network coverage
T-Mobile - coverage awful.
No service whatsover (cant even send sms)
Orange
We also get a poor reception here using Orange (although miles better than O2)
Anyone live nearby with Vodafone?
I'm hoping to switch networks for my xda after the years contract with o2 is up
http://www.webmap.btcellnet.net
Put in your postcode and it can tell you exactly how many O2 cells you have in your area and how close they are.
How damn useful!!!
Is there a weblink for other service providers that anyone knows about??
Rog
its lying about the lower part of Rusthall!
Anon, I notice you're not man enough to use a real name. And that you have to resort to being abusive.
The whole point of this thread is to make people aware that salesmen who say that coverage is ok in your home area are sometimes unitentionally misleading the public.
If you enjoy misleading people then please leave this forum alone - its for sharing information - please read the posting guidelines.
And as for it being a simulation, dont you think its misleading, and why do you think I started this posting, to get REAL data - so we can compile our own results - and help other people who want to buy an xda. After all if a map showing coverage is false - whats the point of it. Would you sail to america in a yacht with a simulated map?
Moderator, how come people can post replies as guests anyway?
The whole system is set up so that guests can post messages. We've felt that the advantages have outweighed the disadvantages so far.
I've deleted the offending post and contacted the user behind this IP-number to see if we can achieve a change in behaviour.

mmm. The colour coding seems to be misleading but its handy to know how close the cells are. Even if you are very close to the cells I would guess there are things that can block the radio signals (eg. hills, trees, building etc.).
You say T-mobile and Orange are worse than O2, so I would definately try Vodafone.
Also interesting is that O2's cell indicator has a form you can fill in if you have a piece of land they could put a new cell on. Might be an option?
Spent last week in the UK with my Qtek on Vodafone. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!! You guys have the worst mobile coverage ever! And people seem to think it's ok!
I lost connection all the time while going on major roads between major cities! On the site of the company I visited you had to go outside in certain spots to get any coverage at all, and they used Vodafone as their main supplier. And last but not least, getting a GPRS connection worked like one time out of twenty.
Here in Sweden, I find it irritating that I have bad coverage at my summer house. Which is like 20 minutes drive from the nearest major road or small town. No wonder they use Sweden as a test bench for new mobile services!
Could that also have something to do with the fact that the two largest mobile manufacturers are Scandinavian? You'd sort of expect it to work in your own back yard. When they try and turn up the juice in the UK, everyone complains about their kid's brains getting fried
rgds,
Alex.
well I can safely say that O2 in NW sheffield and south of Leeds is rubbish.
according to the map it should be GOOD
uh uh.
the whole area is a sinkhole for decent reception. about the only phones that give good signal in this place is orange.
Kent seems to work pretty much everywhere for O2. I live in Dartford and work in Bexleyheath and have no troubles.
Rgds,
Rob.
O2 in central Cheltenham is total crap and has been for as long as I can remember and I have used lots of different phones.

Never had a problem with Vodaphone here............
Works phone is on Vodaphone...............
The only time I loose the signal is when I am hiding down in the Subway at work....!!! (Birmingham New Street Station!)
addendum to my post about Sheffield and Wakefield.
reception is crap if you are running windows 2003 PPC 4.00.05 and 4.00.11
I put 3.17.03 on my XDA yesterday and I am stunned at the difference.
In my works building on 4.0.05 and 11 I never got a signal. now I thought fair enough because I am in the basement below ground level with iron bars on the window. not even one bar
since I've put my XDA back to 3.17.03 I've never had less than 3 bars, even in places where I've never got a signal.
I think I'll wait until an official O2 ROM release for 2003.
Here are my list of bad spots....
Almost any part of the top of the mendip hills apart from near to major towns. One notable exception being orange, who seem to have much more coverage there.
Crediton in devon, and the road from tiverton to crediton. Reception is patchy at best. This is true for all neworks.
Parts of avonmouth are bad for O2 coverage, with orange being the best in that area.
Parts of the A38 from Churchill to cross, patchy reception for all networks.
Winscombe to Banwell, O2 is ok, but other networks patchy.
Flixton in norfolk, very patchy (stand outside and point the phone in the right direction).
Wooky Hole (village not the cave!) almost no signal on any network, unless you walk to the top of the nearest hill.
Frome a bit patchy for O2, not sure about other networks.

This is the current URL for this site, which according to my Post Code says i'm 0.3km from my nearest Cell. I'm also 0.35km (as the crow flies) from my O2 shop - in my O2 shop my XDAII gets 5 bars reception, from my living room, 0 bars!!!
What can I do to get a better reception?
PS my area is Worthing (town centre), West Sussex.
Hi all
Perhaps we can share info re the above. Currently I am running the AKU3.3 test rom and radio 1.27.
It is by far the best combination I have used so far for Tmobile Uk. The battery life is far better than the original HTC rom and the signal aquisition seems much stronger. My only concern is that there seems to be a reluctance to switch from GPRS to either UMTS or HSDPA when on the move, my previous 1.18 rom although apparently less good at pulling in the signal would certainly be showing U or H more quickly when in an area of coverage. Has anyone tried the later 1.33 or 1.34 roms and found them any better?
Otherwise, this for me has my Tytn working superbly and doing everything I want. Heck, even TT6 works without freezing!
Rob
Ps This forum seems to be getting very slow, could it be all the downloading thats going on before the big switch off?
Hi all,
I am currently using Shamanix_WM6_Ultimate_v2_FINAL with radio rom version 1.5407.00 and I am looking for a better radio. The data speed (even over 3G) is not that great and the reception at my house is literally 1 bar. I was wondering if anyone out there that lives in the Atlanta, GA area is using a different radio rom version that gets better results than mine. I'm on the AT&T network.
Thanks in advance!
I also live outside Atlanta and I find the closer I get to home the more often my calls drop. I am running the same radio version and I too would like to know if there is a better radio version for the Atlanta area. I am on AT&T as well.
You guys should try several Radio and see which one proves to be the most compatible with your operator there in Atlanta.
Remember, flashing the radio stack will not cause a hard reset. So it does not hurt trying.
I visit the Atlanta area regularly and have exceptionally good speed and battery life with 1.54.30.10
i have been running into the same problems here in Houston since the Hurricance Ike and running the same version ya'll are. I am about to try 1.56.70.11. I will post my results later.

Thanks Zachoo! This radio rom is perfect!! I have been flashing radio stack after radio stack to try and find the best reception and battery life. I get much better reception, data transfers are quicker, and my battery life has increased by almost 30 percent!
Hello,
Does anyone know of any antennas or other physical devices that I can use to boost my cell phone's signal? In my apartment in Connecticut, I drop calls all the time while talking but it doesn't really happen anywhere else so I only need to improve the signal in my place. I remember I used to have an actual antenna for my old Nokia phone that would stick to the outside of my car. Also, I once had one of those signal boosting stickers that went on the back of the phone.
If anyone knows of any reliable way to boost the signal on my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 in Connecticut that doesn't involve flashing a new radio, I'd appreciate it. Thank you!

let me know how it works! haha
maybe try a different radio?
I know Best Buy sells signal boosters but i remember them being a bit expensive.
unfortunately our devices don't have an external antenna jack, i know the kaiser (original tilt)
Thanks guys.
As far as radios, do I just keep trying one by one until I see an improvement? Is there one that is known of that is stronger than others? The Fuze forum has a thread with people's results voting for which was best. Nothing like that here.

Yes, exactly...you'll need to try out the ones that are available for your model, and just see which one gives the best results in your situation/location. You can read votes and recommendations all day long, but they can have no relation to what results you will see
THIS thread has the complete list of radios available for the Rhodium
Unwiredsignal with a Desktop kit 801247
You can try a Wilson desktop cell phone signal booster. It might work for you. I have one in my home office... (basement) and it covers that area only (20x20) so I think it would be perfect for an apartment. I havent tried it in a larger area, but Unwiredsignal.com says it will cover a one to two room area. There is no physical connection to your phone.
Hope this helps...

Both ATT and TMobile offer microcell. Trialing in various areas.
It uses your existing broadband connection to relay calls to your phone.
Looking at ATTs' website it appears to be $150.00 for the equipment.
Here is a link.

Thanks a lot guys. I'd hate to have to pay 320 for the one on Unwiredsignal.com but I'll look into it.
All,
I have done a lot of flashing ROMs and Radios since I had my (unbranded) HD2 and I have been getting several issues where I miss calls (goes straight to voicemail) even when I am not using the phone.
I am using radio 2.10.50.26 but have also tried several others.
Can anybody who is on the O2 network in the UK recommend a reliable radio I can try?
Also does anybody know what radio the branded O2 HD2 uses as this might be worth trying too?
Thanks in advance
Alright mate.
I'm on O2 as well, and I've got 2.12.50.02_2, and it's pretty good for me. Can't help you with the original radio though as I've had the phone for nearly a year now and have been banging new ROMs/Radios on it for as long as they've been available (the original stock ROMs - pre 1.66 - we're dire!)
Incidentally, this is an "Android friendly" radio too - no robot voice or echo.
Hope this helps.
I have a 2.10.50 radio and I can't complain. It's pretty damn good actually.
I've been using 2.12.50.02_2 for a while now - and it's been ok. I've just upgraded to 2.14.50.04 and I think that this might be the best yet.
I had 2.12.50 and to be honest i thought it was terrible in terms of connection and battery life. I think the radio is heavily dependent on the amount of base stations in your area.
2.14.50 works well for me now and previously 2.07.50 was good too.
The stock radio that came on my phone was either 2.6.51.xx or 2.7.51.xx and the rom i had was a 1.66 version. I've used all the radios that have been made available since i got my phone in may and for me, in my area, the best ones where 2.10.50.26, 2.11.50.20, 2.12.50.2_2 and 2.14.50.04. Each time they improved the signal strength and extened the battery life a little but do remember that the best radio for you may very possibly be different dependant on your area. For example, if you have full signal all the time no matter where you are and the battery life is already pretty good there's no point in changing but if you struggle to get a decent hsdpa signal and your phone is always switching between edge and 3g then you may want to try a newer radio.
Ther are so many variables involved in this topic it is impossible to take a recommendation unless it is given to you by someone that lives or works in or around where you are most or you experiment a little.
