Before I Upgrade my BA to WM6
I was able to install symantec anti virus.
Recently I tried to install it again after I upgrade my BA from WM2003se to WM6 pro but It won't install, as I can remember it says " please install the software to internal memory" and that's what I did but still it won't install..
ANYONE CAN HELP ME OUT HERE???
i don't even bother with antivirus for my BA. i think there's really only 2 or 3 PPC viruses to be scared of. just don't download any software from shady sites. you're probably better off without it because WM6 is fairly processor-intensive and antivirus will slow it down more.
Yes I know about that..but hey isn't great to have an Anti Virus to show off tour friends???

Hi,
I have had it ! I decided to change my PocketPC OS to some company other than Microsoft !
Each time I install a new Program(most of the good ones) in the WM2003se ... either hang or Hard Reset !
Don't wast your time with it ..
Also , Don't wast your time developing or looking after better extended ROM !
Simply install you OS , then install all your favorite Programs in your favorite location (SD may be) then set all of the copy protection serials numbers and then perform a backup in your SD (using Sprite or any other that provide Self extracting) !
Whenever you have a problem .. simply hardreset .. then restore !
Sorry for being so straight !

Any
That may be a good solution for your situation but that doesn't mean that it will for for every body!
I like my self cooked Extended ROM and haven't experienced any hang or hardreset until know.
Also everyone must be aware of the fact that not every application will run on the w2k3 se. Just like it doesn't on your PC.
So there is not one solution and the solution is specific to the needs someone has.
Regards,
Mark
Waleed,
Sorry you feel that way but for me its the real fun part of owning a XDA II. Coz being an engineer also helps .. we love to fix things, even if it aint broke ... until it breaks.
Cheers

My sentiments too... It's a TOY for me to bash!!!!!!
I've only experienced 1 hang:- with XCPUScalar ver 2.82. I upgraded to ver 2.85 and my device is running smoother than the old 1.66.00WWE ROM.
Mind you, I don't run that many apps either. Just calculators / Adobe / XSForms etc...
I installed and am enjoying using Fonix Voice Dial, which I never would have since ROM 1.72 isn't released for Asia as yet!
Either way, I am having a ball playing with this powerful work tool... cough... toy!
Recrem...
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, WOW....!!, It's a Fenomenal ROM, I very like it !!!, but if you don't, just to downgraded to 1.72 + SRS Appl.
Cheers,
I really need someone to help to lead me how to upgrade my XDAII WM2003 to WM2003SE. Please show me where and how to do this. appreciated to show detail step by step set up.
Thread moved out of Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking to here
there is so many forum that would help you to upgrade from wm2003 to wm2003se. anyway, i will try to help. i'm a newbie my self. i use XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS. it pretty much have everything on it. and it's stable. you have to download XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS from ftp://xda:[email protected]/GlobeSmartSun/XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS.exe
and then.. put your xda on the bootloader mode by press and hold power button + navigational pad + softreset switch. a number like 1.03 or whatever will come up and put it on the cradle. and then run the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS.exe. after that you just wait till it finish and when it shows you finish then reset the xda and that's pretty much it. if you have a question feel free to ask. hope that helps
How stable are the wm2003se versions that are available?
I use the xdaII everyday as a business tool, I would really like to have 2003 se (mainly for the improoved bluetooth) but I wouldn't want it to crash when I need it!

i use the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS version and it's very stable. the bluetooth have two stack. use the one that's the most compatible. don't run them both because sometimes it crashes specially with tomtom 5. i use the microsoft bluetooth stack.
Why do you want to upgrade to WM2003SE if you can upgrade to WM2005?
xdaII upgrade to WM2003SE
I'm a first time user to the site and just followed the link from MDAIII and have now upgraded my machine. All seems to be working fine. So far I am impressed. Thanks I've been waiting a while to get this sorted.
I upgraded XDAII from wm2003 to wm2005 and in my opinion its not perfect yet. There is still some memory issues to be ironed out... I ''ll say gave it month or two.
I have now downgraded to 2003se and iam very impressed with it.
its very stable than my previous orange build (wm2003). I could serously see myself sticking with 2003se for some time to come.
I have also just bought an sd-wifi card from ebuyer for £19.00
so no upgrade of the unit till the 3G pocket-pc is released later this year or next.
never upgrade for the sake of upgrading.
thanks to xda2jojo and others  .
So which version of wm2003se are you using?
am using XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS combined zt on extended rom
seems stable to me. I got my wireless sd card today and that works perfectly too.
these are some of apps installed on my pocketpc
tomtom 5
mapopolis
worldmate
omega battary pro
agile messanger
mortplayer
betaplayer
adobe reader
mobipocket reader 5 beta
Hi, am using wm2003se and seem to be stable. However, I would want to install wm2005 just out of curiousity. I wish to solicit views on whether I should install and why, if not then why not. PLEASE I humbly plead with members to MAKE THIS TOPIC INTERESTING.
:?: HI I am reasonably competant on computers but unfortunately the ideal of keeping up with the most modern updates does not seem to be as effective on pda/smartphones. I own a MDA 1000 (unlocked) it ran ok on windows 2003 but i was disappointed that i couldnt get rid of the ORANGE software addons. so I upgraded to wm2005, I didnt realise that all my LEGAL software i had purchased and owned for sometime WOULD NOT be compatible and further more the software that is supposed to be compatible is so unstable I find few reason to upgrade at present until more upgrades for software are available and STABLE. my problem is with TOM TOM navigation, I used TOM TOM 3 since its inception and previously TOM TOM 2 etc, I always kept up to date with updates and had NO PROBLEMS now I cant use TOM TOM 3 and TOM TOM 5 is so unreliable within WM2005. I Havent seen many people on here yet with the same faults let alone compatibility issues. It seems when installed WM2005 either alters backlight settings,Active sync is unstable, camera buttons, recorder buttons, etc etc and when you have those sorted TOM TOM doesnt work without further bug fixes. If I am wrong in my assumption please fellow users please correct me. I thought that computers were supposed to make our lives easier and less stressfull. ( I must have missed the bus on that one ) seems when I get my pc sorted all i need to do is plug my PDA in and bingo Active sync acts up and thus starts another nite of hassle.
when the wm2005 rom came out a lot of people complained about the memory issue being too small after upgrading...among other things... myself included...but when the ram disc / doc tool / etc came out and after some hefty reading i was able to bring wm2005 to my unit. since then i've had no problems and i like it better than 2003se. the phone app for one is fantastic. in your case, if you're curious as to the pros and cons of wm2005 i think you should give it a shot. if you don't like it, you can always go back to 2003se.
perhaps the only con i have is that i now can't use animated today as this app is not compatible with 2005. however i did send a note to the developers and they're currently working on the fix to have this app working with 2005. so it's not really a con in my case...just a matter of waiting. the other apps i use work perfectly.
but other than that i haven't done a hard reset in...well ever since i installed wm2k. give it a shot.
hi all newcomer here so be patient, have upgraded to wm 2005 but dont like can i go back to a windows 2003 rom that is not ORANGE bias :?:
Yes you can, but not not without any risk. When I went back to 2003SE, I had some problems with it. My PDA didn't work for almost a day before I find the solution. I am not sure that this is working for you, but it worked for me. I have done it with a new installed computer with only activesync 3.7 version on it.
Good luck

I upgraded from WinMobile 2003 to Windows Mobile 5 and found it nice but slow. I reversed the steps and went back to SIN's version of Windows 2003 SE available here on XDA-Developers. Frankly it is better than Mobile 5. Yes, there are the same landscape screen benefits, but man is it fast ... especially when you set Xscalar to FAST.
So instead of an expensive paperweight, I still have a beaut XDA with lots more speed and functionality. The SBP add-on for Windows Theme Generator works a treat ... so all around I am happy.
I just bought O2 XDA atom and my previous phone was Imate jasjar universal..
I wanted to enquire that Will there be any upgrade for XDA atom cause the
O2 site says that there will be an upgrade for XDA atom LIFE.....
PLzz help me out..... Really needed to know that the fone i bought could be upgraded by any chance... Thanks...
The chance of getting an upgrade for the Atom is nil, the Atom is a very old phone now even though you can still buy it new, the Atom Life is brand new and so many people contacted O2 in regards to the Atom Life getting WM6, they had to do something, I could be wrong about this but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Also I wouldn't get to concerned, I went to WM6 on my Jasjar and my Jasjam and I went back to WM5 as I had a lot of software problems with third party software not functioning properly, I just used a skin in WisBar Advance to make it look the same because I couldn't stand the look of WM5 after having WM6.
Hope this helps, the Atoms a great phone, I just bought an Atom and then an Atom Exec and it is the best PPC Phone I have ever owned and I have had nearly all of them, I love how it it so small.
No doubt!!!
Hey no doubt....XDA atom doesn't hang... it has everything.. I just wanted a new look for the fone.. the live messenger in the fone and all those things..
as I was previously using JASJAR... the new utilities were quite handy..
Hey... One more thing..
Is there a way I can U can make a ROM for older O2... cause the rom for Life has released I can't use it..
Plzz helpt buddy... really need it
