I know this is not supposed to be able to happen, but on two occasions today and since upgrading to new radio and DCD 3.0 my wifi has turned on and detected networks with the wifi switch set to off, not sure why this is happening and I can not duplicate it on demand, trying to turn on wifi with the switch of via comm manager still does not work. Trying to find some kind of pattern but it has only happened twice.
Perhaps with the new radio there is a way to turn it on and off via software, or perhaps my switch is malfuntioning.
I had a similar experience as well.
I noticed it when I soft reset (not all the time, but 1/10 maybe?) and when trying to activesync, it would sometimes turn on.
I wish there was a way to figure it out, this means that it should be possible turn on wifi via software doesn't it?
Now that you mention it one of the times it came on was right after a soft reset.
Yep, this is becoming a well known problem.....well, for me not a big problem, just a slight annoyance....in the new ROM/Radio. It must have something to do with the radio, because I never experienced this in any other ROM. I'm wondering if WLAN may be turning on when there are short lapses in carrier coverage, and when an app (like activesync....I sync my e-mail using outlook)is trying to be connected to data (the internet). I just turn it back off when it turns on by itself. It doesn't ever seem to turn OFF by itself when I'm actually using WLAN.
EDIT:
one thing that may support my theory is that when you do a soft reset, it takes a bit to connect to the carrier network, and this just happens to be one of the times that WLAN turns itself back on..
And yeah, the battery usage definately sucks....plus when WLAN is turned on, and you're not connected to an access point, you could have data throughput issues as it keeps trying to see if it can connect through WLAN and/or radio......
I need it fixed , I didn't catch it earlier and my battery lost 85% today wihtout me even using my phone. Normally I get 2 full days I haven't really used my phone today and was fully charged this morning now I am at 15%, very poor performance for my typical use.
I am running dcd's 3.0.1 on my XV6800 and noticed that the wifi will turn on with the switch in the off position. It has happened to me a half dozen times or so. It only does it while I am on a call. Any suggestions? Has a solution been found yet? Any help is appreciated!
Same here, but has only happened a of of times.

It only appears to happen while in a call for me as well...it happened with no additional software installed at that point so I'm certain it has something to do with the rom itself...I'm guessing the new radio but who knows for sure...
shame here

And I hvae never had the problem. (and I do run wmwifirouter)
i saw this when the kitchen first came out as well. i also saw that it wanted to connect to a roaming alot more than it should as well.
sprint will tell you to set you phone roaming settings to "sprint only" the phones and ROMs come with "automatic" enabled.
my sprint buddy told me long ago to change this from auto to sprint only. soft reset. let it conect to a good sprint connection. then switch back to "auto" and soft reset.
i haven't did this for a year or so, but when i started seeing the roaming icon after many of the soft resets i thought about it. since i did this i haven't seen the roaming nor the wifi bug.
i think it is the theory that when you softreset the phone set on auto looks for the first tower, which could be a roaming tower. this takes a little too long to conect. in this longer than normal connection time when something like activesync wants to connect and has no internet connection it will enable wifi to connect if it has to.
i have noticed in the past with other ROM's as well that if your phone is in flight mode and you soft reset. as soon as activesync tries to connect and cant it will turn on wifi.
try this. turn on flight mode. soft reset. open active sync and hit sync. you'll see.
so for the record... this is not a dcd bug, but rather a windows mobile bug. wm 5 and 6. the best fix is to set it to sprint only or do the trick i stated above.
Are any of you running the HTC Home Plugin with the weather patch?
Because I installed it on my XV6800 and on a soft reset the WiFi was acting wacky. As if it was looking for a signal.
All I did to correct this issue was to disable automatic roam / download of the weather.
Well what I noticed so far is this, mostly happens after a soft reset, but sometimes it does it at random. Only happens when I have DCD 3.0.1, I am not seeing it with any other custom rom and I think I have tried them all. I have not had any roaming icons or the like and with telus customizations on you have two options for network, there is standard and automatic.
The only reason I hold on to it being dcd 3.0.1 is that no other version 3.35rom I've installed has done it, the ones I have installed off the top of my head are the stock sprint rom, DCD 3.0, 3.0.1, no2chem 5053, and two others that I can't remember as well as my own stripped down version of the stock sprint rom.

Did you have this issue with your Stock ROM?
I only ran the stock 3.35 rom for about a day but I seem to recall it happened then as well. I didn't think it was necessarily DCD's rom but was an issue with the new radio. I'll try the steps cody recommended and see if that does the trick.

Nor have I.
I just switched to sprint only, and after a soft reset, the wifi did not turn on as usual.

No I did not, however I also did not have it on there very long. I flash often, and I am constantly tweaking, "My name is jjlwork have a flashing problem" lo
Interestingly enough I am able to reproduce by following cody's instructions with the flight mode -> soft reset -> activesync
I posted of wifi issues with radio 3.35 and rom 3.0.0 in post #648 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376150&page=65. I want to mention that I finally resolved the problem. It looks like it wasn't the ROM update at all but rather the result of running WMWiFiRouter. I removed this program and my wifi functionality was restored. I then replaced the program with the latest version and, while it worked properly as long as nothing went wrong, I was able to get the wifi problem to come back by launching the program with the hardware wifi switch off and then turning the switch on while WMWiFiRouter's connection sequence was in progress. In this last case, the program's built-in crash recovery was able to get wifi working again (although that hadn't worked back when I first posted the problem). So, I think I'm good as long as remember to always have that slider switch on before launching WMWiFiRouter and to make sure the program disconnects completely and fully before exiting the software.
Hi all,
Got a problem that I can't seem to find any suggestions on how to fix here on the forums.
My i-mate Jamin's wireless doesn't automatically detect wireless networks, and even when I specify the configuration manually, it won't connect either. So, there is no detection of wireless (the wifi does turn on alright), and the 'wifi on' tower icon appears, but doesn't try and search or connect.
I was starting to think this was a 100% hardware problem, but I found that if I try and create an ad-hoc network with my Jamin, other devices can see it. However, when actually trying to connect to the ad-hoc network, the Jamin still keeps trying to connect unsuccessfully.
This problem existed on WM5 (my original rom) and has still been the same on all WM6.1 roms I've used (ShadoW, iProphet etc).
Any suggestions on a software angle, or what to look for in terms of 'broken' hardware if I were to pull the device apart?
Cheers
try to update the ROM and the SPL, but be carefull
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've done both. I've got the HardSPL on my device, and I've got CloudyFa's WM 6.1 rom (and as I mentioned, I've tried about 3 other WM6 and WM6.1 roms too)..still no luck though.
It does, however, come up with the signal strength icon (like it can almost see the network) if you try and manually configure a network you know exists (eg my home network). It doesn't manage to connect to it though - just comes back and says 'unavailable'.
check if it is encrypted with WPA2. I think that version of cloudyfa is not compatible with that kind of encryption.

Definitely is only WPA here at home. Tried disabling it to no encryption, and likewise it doesn't work at my university (WPA) or at public wifi hotspots (no encryptions) or if you use WEP either. I've tried every setting on my router - and like I've mentioned, tried it in various other locations and routers...
Definitely something wrong with my device..but who knows what it is

Any suggestions as to the best version? I've upgraded from the base one to 2.20.21.
Also, how does the main memory go during this update (can't remember from last time I did it) - does it get erased / should I back things up?
Thanks

Yep, main memory was fine. I've upgraded to the latest radio rom on that page, but still no luck.
So I've tried that one, your one was my original one (2.19.21) and my last one (2.20.21). Doesn't seem like it's a fix unfortunately..
Thanks for the help all the same. Anything else I could try?
Have same problem after I installed :touchflo 3d look.

Same problem here
Hey there, as I said befor I had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM (Vodafone S200 initial firmware - flashed several ROMS with no succes on wifi and finally decided to stay with bikertibi's 23102).
I think I somehow came across the solution (or the solution came across me) about the "when I turn on the wifi..."
It does:
1) look like its turned on as the upper icon appears and it says "on" on the display.
2) beeps the green led on the front speaker (or whatever is that)
BUT
It does not:
1) beep the radio signal (two waves) on the "wifi on" icon.
2) Find networks available
warning: my level of knowledge on PDA's is somewhere over the bottom limit so basically my interpretations of the solution will be more of that (interpretations) than it should be. So I beg for someone that knows what he's doing to try it and explain again.
Okay, after searching the unsearchable and MAKING SURE that it was DEF. NOT the USB cable, decided to give it a try to that icon "ADD NEW". That icon appears instead of the available networks, 'cause as I said my prophet wasn't detecting them.
So, I "added" a new one with ad-hoc (that is: tab on "add new", select ad-hoc, put a silly name and say yes to all) and then INSTANTLY and MAGICALLY (yes, Im THAT lamer) it all started to find networks all over the howse.
Other thing that might have been something on the process is that I was having my laptop with the wireless connected. At the first moment I connected the adhoc with the laptop but then tried to connect to another next door network with SUCCEED.
Finally, deleted the new added silly named network and it is still recognizing networks available.
PLEASE, SOMEONE THAT KNOWS ABOUT THIS, EXPLAIN IT WITH CLEAR WORDS!!!!
Hope it helps
Re:
Maybe you should check your network to see anything wrong with it...
There's nothing wrong with the network you guys. I've been having the same problem for over 3 years? Couldn't quite remember.
I STILL have my Qtek s200 with me now. Alive and kickin'. I still have a problem with my wifi. I can connect alright, and browse alright. BUT only if I'm 2 feet near my router. The reception is extremely poor 3 years back, still is extremely poor now. This is not a coincidence. I think something's wrong with our devices. Tried doing everything. cooked, uncooked, stock. original radio, ALL radio. Still the same. Same exact distance, the reception weakens after 2 feet. AND 2 FEET is way to short for WIFI browsing.
To add more that there is nothing wrong with my network at home:
1. got no password
2. I have a old Nintendo DS lite. Works Fine.
3. Got a Wii
4. Got an Old Xperia X1 (not quite old)
5. Wifey's on C905
6. Got a China Iped
7. Using an HTC HD7
8. My OLD MSI Laptop has WIFI connectivity.
9. My Sis got an Aino.
that's basically it, an everyday home WIFI activity connectivity. AS for my Prophet. Still looks black good. but still connects no good. everythng else connects fine though, beaming IR things, bluetoothing things. pretty much normal. All except WIFI.
3 years ago, I thought it was just me.
Anyone having/had this issue before? The wireless switch is off but somehow the wireless randomly goes on.
I'm on DCd 3.2.6 and I have WiFiRouter installed, not sure if its cauing this.
Not randomly but after soft resets I get them pretty much every other time.
Yeah I noticed same here, why?
yeah it has to do with wifirouter i just installed it to see what would happen and it does the same thing after every soft reset.
I have the same problem....
I installed WiFiRouter with my last version of DCD 3.2.5. I don't have it with 3.2.6 and I get the same wifi enabled afte soft resets.

Must be WiFiRouter as I uninstalled it and no more WiFi after soft reset. Can some one look at the registry settings from it and see what might be the culprit?
I think it only happens after a software reset after having used it only.
Can anyone else confirm?

Not for me. It turns on for me about every other soft-reset, regardless of whether I've used WIFIrouter. Not a huge problem though. I just flip the switch on, then off, and the wifi turns off and stays off (until the next soft-reset, of course).
I get something similar, the WiFi icon in the title bar will "appear" to connect to something but never does. The slide button on the Titan is in the off position and WiFi is off in Comm Manager. Wifi will not connect to my home WiFi network unless I turn on both the slide switch and turn on WiFi in comm manager, then it will connect. Also the WiFi led will not blink, unless I "really" have it turned on.
So I have just learned to ignore the icon, but I will randomly check to ensure that everything is turned off.

This is a known bug with WMWiFiRouter and out Titans.
I think I am having the same problem as everyone else with the Alltel TP GPS. I have absolutely no luck finding satellites in my hometown, yet if I travel out of my hometown I can get signal 99% of the time. I tried locking in while I was driving back from work (Ocala, FL) to my hometown (Sarasota, FL) and it worked all the way to my house. As soon as I turned I turned Google Maps off it couldn't find me anymore.
I have tried all the tricks to make it work including the obvious "turn on my location".
If anyone have a solution that works please let me know. I have heard that if you use the Alltel Nav program then the GPS picks up very well, so there must be something there.
can anyone help?
if you are running stock rom its a little finniky at GPS but if your running a custom rom then its a lot better... also the stock radio seems to be little strange...
if your not running stock what are you running?
do you have quick gps installed?
I am using the stock rom. I am not familiar with other ROMs, I haven't looked into that aspect of it yet. What is the best ROM for an Alltel phone (IYO)? Do the other roms still use TouchFLO? Am a very graphic person, so I like the prettyness of TF3D.
i had problems getting a satellite lock in my home town when i had my 6800 with my tp its much better i am running energy rom found here over at ppcgeeks http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69545. i really think it just has to do with the area/amount of towers. there has been some discussion about needing gps services turned on on alltels side. Saying that if you sign up for there navigation service they will open up gps and then cancel service(i have never used their service and get gps). It sometimes would take awhile for me to get a lock and then only pick up one or two satelites then out of area i would pick up a bunch. have u tried htc gps tool? also check out visual gpsce. try all different radios too. im curently running the vzw rapael radio found here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46616. once you flash over your alltel radio u will not be able to flash it back stock since the alltel radio has not been dumped yet (something i was not aware of when i flashed). im going to bet though if you unlock your phone and flash a custom rom your gps lock will be better. good luck!
I installed ConFlippers Rom for the Alltel TPs and I like it a lot, but it didn't do anything to help my GPS lock.
Changing doesn't always helps. Conflippers is a great rom because its exclusive for alltel and is very easy to flash because everything works. With conflippers you need to install "htc gps tool". Then once you have it do the following: select "clear memory" ->open for 15 sec.->close->select "cold or warm start" ->open 10 sec.->check nav init.->check your satellites. If you got green then go to google maps or whatever program you are trying to use gps for.
If you would like to try a different rom then sometimes simply cycling the location setting from on to off then back on again or soft reset is in order. Keep your quick gps up to date.
There is not one fix for all gps problems for the t-Pro. You will find a routine that works and it will no longer be a problem. One thing that works 100 percent of the time is with the stock rom, paying for alltel nav will give you locks instantly in any program at anytime.
I'm using Nfsfan's CDMA Touch Pro Rom
I install the Alltel Carrier Cab and MMS cab in my faq
when I flash it to make it work 100% with Alltel.
(mms=Picture/vid messaging)
The link to my faq is in my signature.
Also, in post one of my signature there is a link to a post I've made
describing what's vga compatible and what's not
till I finish getting everything for my TouchPro Faq.

Well, I've had my Alltel Touch Pro for about 6 hours now, so I'm hardly an expert (coming from my eternally flashed and reflashed PPC-6800) but, here's my experience with GPS:
Bought the Touch Pro from the Alltel corporate owned store. Walked outside to my car and got in. Went into the phone settings and turned Location On. Popped my Garmin Mobile XT (bought retail, not cracked) card out of my 6800 and into my Touch Pro. Let it install. Started up Garmin Mobile XT, got on the highway, and within a minute had a nice GPS lock.
Obviously, all on the stock Alltel ROM (no time to look into custom ROMs yet, I've only had it for a few hours!) So I can state that at least in my case the GPS worked fine out of the box without any sort of priming or tweaking. YMMV.
Yea, like I said mine works great everywhere I have been except for my hometown. I can even hook up to my bluetooth GPS receiver and it works great everywhere. Just can't seem to get a connection in (Sarasota, FL).
