My Verizon 3.35/3.0.1 wifi troubles solved - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I posted of wifi issues with radio 3.35 and rom 3.0.0 in post #648 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376150&page=65. I want to mention that I finally resolved the problem. It looks like it wasn't the ROM update at all but rather the result of running WMWiFiRouter. I removed this program and my wifi functionality was restored. I then replaced the program with the latest version and, while it worked properly as long as nothing went wrong, I was able to get the wifi problem to come back by launching the program with the hardware wifi switch off and then turning the switch on while WMWiFiRouter's connection sequence was in progress. In this last case, the program's built-in crash recovery was able to get wifi working again (although that hadn't worked back when I first posted the problem). So, I think I'm good as long as remember to always have that slider switch on before launching WMWiFiRouter and to make sure the program disconnects completely and fully before exiting the software.

WiFi Stopped Working

Since I upped my radio to 1.4 I have had a problem with my WiFi not enabling. I am using ROMS cooked up in DCD's Kitchen 1.6.9 and 1.6.10 and am using the 10 Button Kaiser style CommManager. When I turn WiFi on it turns back off within a second or two. I am having the same problem in either ROM and I just re-flashed the Stock 2.09 Verizon ROM back in and although there is no WiFi button on the CommManager the WiFi status is saying off when I look at the advanced tab of the Wireless LAN settings.
I am reasonably sure this started when I went to Radio 1.4 as WiFi used to work for me. I have also gone up to and back down from the 2.13 radio and that does not seem to affect the issue. This confuses me because I read other threads where folks talk about WiFi in both of these radio versions.
Has anyone else seen symptoms such as this?
Thanks,
Ks.
have u tried soft set or hard set or updating the radio ?
Yep, the only radio I have not tried is 1.47 but others aparently have WiFi working with 1.4 and 2.13. I am thinking there must be something else, perhaps in the extROM, that is causing me problems since this problem seems to transcend Kitchen versions and the stadard VZW ROM.
Thanks,
Ks.
No prob.....
Are you sure the WiFi slide switch on the side is turned on? I am not able to ever use a software switch to enable/disable WiFi

Oh boy
Thank you for pointing out the obvious to me and the symptoms certainly fit that diagnosis. As an ex-6700 user I absolutely forgot about that dang switch. All is working again.
I hate doing stupid things.

I learn from experience like everyone. I came from the i730 and I still catch myself using a PhoneAlarm button on the today screen.

WIFI Turning on by itslef with seitch in off position

I know this is not supposed to be able to happen, but on two occasions today and since upgrading to new radio and DCD 3.0 my wifi has turned on and detected networks with the wifi switch set to off, not sure why this is happening and I can not duplicate it on demand, trying to turn on wifi with the switch of via comm manager still does not work. Trying to find some kind of pattern but it has only happened twice.
Perhaps with the new radio there is a way to turn it on and off via software, or perhaps my switch is malfuntioning.
I had a similar experience as well.
I noticed it when I soft reset (not all the time, but 1/10 maybe?) and when trying to activesync, it would sometimes turn on.
I wish there was a way to figure it out, this means that it should be possible turn on wifi via software doesn't it?
Now that you mention it one of the times it came on was right after a soft reset.
Yep, this is becoming a well known problem.....well, for me not a big problem, just a slight annoyance....in the new ROM/Radio. It must have something to do with the radio, because I never experienced this in any other ROM. I'm wondering if WLAN may be turning on when there are short lapses in carrier coverage, and when an app (like activesync....I sync my e-mail using outlook)is trying to be connected to data (the internet). I just turn it back off when it turns on by itself. It doesn't ever seem to turn OFF by itself when I'm actually using WLAN.
EDIT:
one thing that may support my theory is that when you do a soft reset, it takes a bit to connect to the carrier network, and this just happens to be one of the times that WLAN turns itself back on..
And yeah, the battery usage definately sucks....plus when WLAN is turned on, and you're not connected to an access point, you could have data throughput issues as it keeps trying to see if it can connect through WLAN and/or radio......
I need it fixed , I didn't catch it earlier and my battery lost 85% today wihtout me even using my phone. Normally I get 2 full days I haven't really used my phone today and was fully charged this morning now I am at 15%, very poor performance for my typical use.
I am running dcd's 3.0.1 on my XV6800 and noticed that the wifi will turn on with the switch in the off position. It has happened to me a half dozen times or so. It only does it while I am on a call. Any suggestions? Has a solution been found yet? Any help is appreciated!
Same here, but has only happened a of of times.

It only appears to happen while in a call for me as well...it happened with no additional software installed at that point so I'm certain it has something to do with the rom itself...I'm guessing the new radio but who knows for sure...
shame here
i know what it is guy its wifirouter setting changes it makes all phones with this app will have the same deal!

And I hvae never had the problem. (and I do run wmwifirouter)
i saw this when the kitchen first came out as well. i also saw that it wanted to connect to a roaming alot more than it should as well.
sprint will tell you to set you phone roaming settings to "sprint only" the phones and ROMs come with "automatic" enabled.
my sprint buddy told me long ago to change this from auto to sprint only. soft reset. let it conect to a good sprint connection. then switch back to "auto" and soft reset.
i haven't did this for a year or so, but when i started seeing the roaming icon after many of the soft resets i thought about it. since i did this i haven't seen the roaming nor the wifi bug.
i think it is the theory that when you softreset the phone set on auto looks for the first tower, which could be a roaming tower. this takes a little too long to conect. in this longer than normal connection time when something like activesync wants to connect and has no internet connection it will enable wifi to connect if it has to.
i have noticed in the past with other ROM's as well that if your phone is in flight mode and you soft reset. as soon as activesync tries to connect and cant it will turn on wifi.
try this. turn on flight mode. soft reset. open active sync and hit sync. you'll see.
so for the record... this is not a dcd bug, but rather a windows mobile bug. wm 5 and 6. the best fix is to set it to sprint only or do the trick i stated above.
Are any of you running the HTC Home Plugin with the weather patch?
Because I installed it on my XV6800 and on a soft reset the WiFi was acting wacky. As if it was looking for a signal.
All I did to correct this issue was to disable automatic roam / download of the weather.
Well what I noticed so far is this, mostly happens after a soft reset, but sometimes it does it at random. Only happens when I have DCD 3.0.1, I am not seeing it with any other custom rom and I think I have tried them all. I have not had any roaming icons or the like and with telus customizations on you have two options for network, there is standard and automatic.
The only reason I hold on to it being dcd 3.0.1 is that no other version 3.35rom I've installed has done it, the ones I have installed off the top of my head are the stock sprint rom, DCD 3.0, 3.0.1, no2chem 5053, and two others that I can't remember as well as my own stripped down version of the stock sprint rom.

Did you have this issue with your Stock ROM?
I only ran the stock 3.35 rom for about a day but I seem to recall it happened then as well. I didn't think it was necessarily DCD's rom but was an issue with the new radio. I'll try the steps cody recommended and see if that does the trick.

Nor have I.
I just switched to sprint only, and after a soft reset, the wifi did not turn on as usual.

No I did not, however I also did not have it on there very long. I flash often, and I am constantly tweaking, "My name is jjlwork have a flashing problem" lo
Interestingly enough I am able to reproduce by following cody's instructions with the flight mode -> soft reset -> activesync

[Q] BlueTooth and Wifi settings interference

Has anyone noticed the following ?
a) Turning on / off bluetooth affects the WiFi connection including sometimes disconnecting the WiFi (when BT is being turned off i.e.).
I use BT to connect with the gtab to my samsung and transfer files etc. When o go to disconnect, the wifi connection has also dissapeared.
b) As a side issue, the Market app kept force closing when launching it, when i changed to went to a different location and it connected up with the WiFi connection there. The Market app was active at first location before i left. Haven't had a chance to reproduce and check the exact scenarios yet.
Have stock Froyo (3389) with Enhancement 3.1.4b (Market app).
i suggest going to custom rom.
i had dropping wifi issues and those fc issues but it was due to a poorly made rom brillant corners and since theres no support i gave up on it
other froyo roms like beastly worked great. didnt drop conenctions

Just curious as to where you got stock 3389 from? It wasn't even released as an OTA update as far as I know. if you prefer stock, then 3588 or 4349 are the most used versions. Have you made any other mods yet? CWM, market fix, etc? If not, then using stock recovery, you can flash either of the stock roms. See Goodintentions "Gtablet for dummies" page for links to the images, and instructions on how to flash using stock recovery.
I, too, have the same problem. On my first mod TnT Harmony 1.2 and now with Caulkin's G-Tab 1.1 I have a problem with bluetooth causing interference with wifi. I am using the BlutO keyboard along with "Bluetooth Easy Connect" in order to get it to actually connect. However, on both mod's the effect is the same, as soon as I turn off the bluetooth my wifi stays connected. I really like Caulkin's G-Tab it is amazingly fast and would prefer to stay there but would move to another one if a different mod would solve this problem. Any suggestions?
Oops must have been typing the rdp port too many times that day. Sorry its 3588.

I didnt want to take a chance with any particular complete rom replacement, thats why used the 'enhancement' pack which basically provided the speedup with market and still the std tnt ui.
Followup, yesterday I had to rebuild the 'bricked' gtab which was suffered from fc's just as I started to give demos :-((
So mucho thanks to the viewsonic for dummies site for collecting all the info in such an easy to read format
I did code red procedure and did the bocksize change which I had not had to do first time. Noticed a speed up in the stock (quadrant - 1743) just by doing a wipe and change of blocksize. Then adding enhancement pak took it to 2400.
Happy now. Tab is going to the field in uk, and hopefully will live thru next 3 wks without incidence.
Problem with bluetooth and wifi still exists. Basically turning on bluetooth and connecting will stall the wifi - it looks like it is still connected but open the settings panel and it will update to show 'disconnected' then touching the button will turn off wifi, then touching it again starts it connecting again and then its fine. A pain when you are trying to hookup bluetooth gps and use maps app.

WiFi stopped functioning correctly (running CM7)

GTab running CM v7.0.3 Harmony.
WiFi just stopped working correctly out of nowhere. It'll go from "Scanning...", to "Connecting...", to "Disconnected", in an endless loop without ever actually connecting.
I tried just rebooting, and nothing. Tried even flashing back to stock (two different versions), then to the latest Nightly, then back to v7.0.3, then did a restore (just to get back to where I was), and all of them had the same issue. None of them had the ability to connect, and still with that same looping.
I even tried some program I found called "WeFi". No go with that either.
I've had this tablet since the 19th, working perfectly. On CyanogenMod7 the whole time. No major changes were made to the system.
Does anyone know of a fix or something that could get me back to functional WiFi?
I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks.
I realize this is not the correct section for this thread but id like to say yours is not an isolated issue. It happened to me with Vegan-Gingerbread edition and i flashed all the way back to Belkins 1.0 2638 (nvflash) and its still doing it.
Strangely enough, it works from my home but will NOT work at hotels airports etc (even though my my lap tops and phones etc will connect from those same locations. This has rendered my gtab nearly useless (without wifi its useless) even though i am familiar with nvflash and trying different roms..i have no idea why the wi-fi keeps looping into this "dead" behavior......
Delete...wrong thread. Lol
Strange, just recently I noticed the same thing, but mine tends to drop connection when using wireless tether via my phone. Even though wifi says connected any apps utilizing wifi will not connect. I have to shut off wifi & then turn it back on only to have it drop once more in less than 5 min. I know it's not the phones end because I can wifi tether to my laptop with no problems & I'm able to connect to my home wifi with no problems as well.
I'm running the latest nightly build of CM7 & have been using it since it was pushed out (June 25th I believe). No other ROM updates other than the usual app updates have been installed. This has been going on for about a week now.
No wifi on CM 7
Me too wi fi on the GTAB running CM7 died today. All other computers are connected.
miracle...now working.
Someone wrote me a PM and made a suggestion to delete user. I tried that, and removed my home network from the list. I also did a hard reset on my router.
The next day, it just worked. So who the hell knows. I'm glad in any case.

[Q] Wifi and Wifi Tether Issues

So over the last few months I've been having an issue with my wifi. Whenever I try to turn it on it says "wifi turning on" but never fully turns on. It remains stuck in this state even with a factory/data reset and on different ROMs. I've tried fixing with an RUU but it still occurs. Sometimes the wifi will turn on at random but if it is turned off it will not come back on. I've looked through the forums and seen some similar issues but haven't seen a solution or a cause. If anyone has any information on this issue that would be great.
My second question is on the wifi hotspot on different roms. I'm currently running infection (which is great btw) but cannot seem to get the built in hotspot to work. It will usually turn on the first time I start the run but after a restart it will not come back on, it will also just say turning on but never become available for connection. I've also given various tether apps a try but with no luck.
I am rooted, S-off, and on the 4.03.605.2 RUU currently
Thank you to whoever can provide any help on how to fix these issues or any known work-arounds. Sorry about the wall of text
I am in the same boat man. I wish someone could fix this.
I really don't know how to help the OP, being S-OFF all the things I can mention would be handled in the RUU process.
dbrown081584 you didn't really give any information on your circumstance or specific issues, what ROM, S-ON/OFF state, firmware, etc. are you running?

Wireless tether rezound
I shared my WiFi Tether app settings in that thread. I have since unchecked the box for Send Netd Max Client Cmd because it was causing problems.
Good luck.
