International SIP? - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

If I have a running copy of an international version of WM6, would it be possible to rip the SIP from it to install on a different localized version of WM6? I am currently trying to get Japanese to work on my English Mogul, and I've kinda grown to like the Japanese SIP in the standalone WM6JP emulator image.

I can't offer any help, but I'd definitely be interested in seeing Japanese input support on my WM6 device. I used to have a few Japanese input methods on WM2002 (a kana keyboard and a a kanji/kana-recognizing transcriber), but I haven't used anything on WM6.

Well, I have succeeded in getting the system to use the Japanese font in system messages and my SMS program, but I have yet to get font linking to work. I have ripped the msgothic.ac3 font from an actual running Japanese WM6 OS, and have exported all applicable registry entries. I plan to make a cab for viewing Japanese tonight after work. The trouble starts with input. Supposedly I have to replace wince.nls to truly enabe full Japanese support, but doing that short of making a rom image for the device has been very buggy in my experience. Just in case I need it, I verified that the Japanese wince.nls has an English locale included, and have ripped it. I am just trying to find out if I can rip the SIP somehow so I don't have to rely on buggy/incomplete software for Japanese input.

You want install Japanese? I can help you this is my speciality
OK, first you need 2 CAB. Since I have both, I will attach to this post. Just run Localize first then run IMEJP and you will have Japanese. They both require reset your titan device after install, so just put it in your SDConfig.txt or install seperate. Now... if you do this, you will automatically type Japanese when you start windows everytime... for many non japanese, this is a problem.
I can help you.
There is a probram that I have. You just run file, pick half width english in top option, left soft key, yes, yes, done.
I hope this help you very much.

No! The cab files i post are REAL localization from WinMo JP Localization. CEStar is bad! It have a little trouble about SIP. Please just try my cabs.. I'm a Japanese... lol

i don't have any problems with cestar...

My cab files are microsoft IME 3.1 JP from Windows Mobile 6.0 JP and wince.nls from WinMo 6.1 Japanese... if you use a cestar, it have to do trick workaround for wince.nls and it make a little phone instability. Random lockup, memory leak, etc. You may not experience this problem today, but maybe after a little while you will. It is been my experience... Which you rather use, factory OEM setting or hacked functionality from company like CEStar that designs its usage mostly for Chinese? I even can make an OEM for this for your kitchen... I have experiment with it lately myself, and it works even better than cab file. Please just trust me and try MS IME.

Hi. I know this thread is from over a year ago, but I am EXTREMELY interested in those two cabs. However, your link seems to be broken. Any chance you could tell me where to get them from? I have tried just about every thing to get Japanese on my W6.1 Sony Experia, with varied results. I have actually been able to read, I just cant input without the ookii SIP file, and I'd rather be able to have the keyboard convert romaji into hiragana and kanji like CEStar, but without the extremely low quality fonts and non-nativelike conversion settings. Please let me know if you have any new information at this point. All the best.

My method will only work if you can make your own ROM with a kitchen. If you can compile an experia ROM, then send me your email address in a private message.

phoneExt

Hello:
Thank you for this site. I am new to all this. I am not yet ready to use a special edition rom, but I was interested in one of the programs, phoneExt. In fact, I'm mainly interested in distinct ringtones. I installed it on my pocketpc 2002 and it worked except for the distinct ringtones. Then I upgraded to PPC 2003. I installed phoneExt and same thing.
Can anyone help out or point me to another product that allows distinct ringtones per caller?
Thanks in advance.
RingtoneX from MTUX is a good software
if you go from 2003 to the special edition rom then you are downgrading
heck my xda1 came with a newer rom that special edition did
Thank you for the replies. I've heard about RingtoneX, but I liked the fact that phoneEXT is freeware. I decided to give it one more try on 2003 (since it was recommended not to downgrade). So I installed it, put a shortcut in the startup, did a soft-reset, assigned a ringtone to my contact (from the windows/rings directory), and it still didn't work. Any ideas? Or do I really have to remove this and use RingtoneX?
Thanks again.
I have the same problem on my i-mate (ppc 2003). Other folks have it work perfectly. There is an other thread about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8788&highlight=
Hope u find it useful
i m using phonExt for long now formerely on my XDA1 and now on my XDA2 both with ppc 2003 and i have no problem playin specific ringtones for every user in my contacts.
just have to put the rings in /windows/rings must be a .wav file
and i define them from the contact list by a long click and the function assign ring tone.
i ve heard many people complaining about phoneext on XDA2 (with ppc 2003).
And i do not understand really, i did nothing specific, just installed the soft and made a shortcut of the exec in the startmenu.
i used in in the extendded personalised rom made with the rom kitchen when i had my XDA1.
well do i have a magic XDA2 or a magic ppc2003 .... i doubt.
I too doubt that you have a magic XDA, but I did all of that. Perhaps my version of the software is older or has bugs. Can you tell me where you got yours or give me a copy (afterall it is freeware)?
Can it be related to the way that phone numbers are in the contacts? For example mine are generally of the format # (###) ###-####, but when I get a call, it does show the contact's name...

Japanese Input

Hey all....
I recently change the language of my X01ht from Japanese to English.
Unfortunately i dont seem to be able to type Japanese anymore.
I can see it and read it, but not type it myself.
also, i seem to have problems with my Radio. after the device enters standby,
and i turn it back on, i cannot reactivate the phone. i have to soft reset before i can turn the phone on, using the comm manager.
this is not my first upgrade of a HTC phone, but certainly the most exciting
i hope someone knows what i did wrong.
Also, is it still possible to bake my own roms for the HERMES???
Sorry I can't help with the japanese input... but for the other questions:

This is very weird, which radio version are you running?
As you said you changed your phone from Japanese to English I assume you already have bootloader 1.04, then you can try to flash an extracted radio rom to see if it fixes the problems.

Unfortunately not yet, the hermes upgrades use NBH format instead of the NBF you have probably seen in older HTC devices.
The available shipped ROM upgrades contain all the rom parts in one single NBH file (IPL, SPL, MainSplash, SubSplash, GSM, ExtROM, and OS), this file is signed with an HTC private key, and checked against a certificate stored on the phone before it is actually flashed, so if you cook your own ROM in a NBH file you get an "invalid cert" error from the bootloader when trying to flash it.
Some of us have started researching how to hot-patch the SPL in RAM to allow flashing self-signed code, but it is still too early to have results.

thanks for your replies.
Im running Radio Stack version 1.07.03.10. I just realized that i cannot send emails via my Gmail account under Flexmail2007. If i connect to a WLAN everything seems fine. But using 3G, i cannot send anything. Internet and receiving works fine though.
Also, once i use my hermes for a while (surfing internet via 3G), the back of it gets quiet warm.
I guess around 38-40 degrees celcius.
@qtotter
thanks alot, mate. That really helps.
i seem to have a few problems with this device. i didnt have a HTC for a while, mainly because i moved to Japan and my phones didnt work there.
Now i seem to be a bit behind.

This is a configuration problem, check the 3G and proxy settings with your provider, this has nothing to do with the radio stack, you won't fix it by upgrading it.

also, my x01ht gets warm, too, when it's connected to the internet via 3gpp.
Thanks guys...im gonna do a hard reset tomorrow and built it all up again.
right now its all kinda messy.
I have over 5000 programs and games for PPC and i wanted to see what still runs, so i have alot of dead folders and probably some unnecessary registry entries.
I also might change from Flexmail back to PO or something else.

Thats certainly true...thats why i usually use only the ones that are interesting to me. but thats still alot...but since alot of the are a few years old now, i am reluctant to try them. i already had some problems with some software under WM5.
I installed the Japanese input...this language bar thing. But its really annoying. It opens 1 more bar every time i start a program/game.
it is also making itself very present. even if im in camera mode, when its in the
background, i can still move it. During games i have to move with the stylus, i will always pickup that little bar....very annoying...

i am not sure what the little bar you mentioned is. i guess you tried the method for non-japanese speakers?
i have never tried any input methods other than atok 4 ppc. if you do not mind spending a couple of thousand yen for japanese input, i would recommend you buy it. but it does not officially wm5, and you need a little tweaking...

How to avoid the unwanted appearance of the IME floater
1. Download, unzip and copy GWinter's KbdSwitch to Program Files. http://www.geocities.com/grieg_winte...are/index.html
2. Run KbdSwitch and set to Japanese IME.
3. Soft-reboot.
4. As soon the Pocket PC starts up again, the IME should be in Japanese. Sometimes, it is not and so you may need to reset KbdSwitch to Japanese IME and restart a few times.
5. Run any application that may use the Japanese IME, i.e. dictionary and wordprocessor.
6. Switch back to English IME (COMP IME).
NB: The floater should only appear only in applications that you started with Japanese IME on. Also, remember that the "X" in the upper right corner of the windows is actually a "minimize" function.

WM6 for charmer ?! Finnaly?

http://bbs.pdafans.com/thread-314364-1-1.html
Look there. I'm not as much experienced as many of you are, therefore I'm asking you first. Is this really wm6 charmer rom?
i don't know, i'm not speeking japanese
well, seems to be...will try today, hope rom will not be japanese :-D
ok nocturne, hoping it will work if so, I'm definatelly gonna have some questions for you
well, just flashed WM6 five minutes ago. something you have to know:
1) this ROM IS wm6 finally !!!
2) YES, this ROM is realy WORKING WM6, including radio rom, camera, bluetooth (maybe it's behaviour is a little bit strange, maybe it is problem of my poor old MA700 bluetooth, which i'm running on Vista - it has never run well even on xp )
3) does not looks to be as fast as some debranded roms with wm5, but seems to be extremly fast as it is in beta stage. fast as roms filled with tmobile junk, if i could compare
4) ActiveSync 4.5 and Viasta's WMDC seems to be working much faster
5) windows update included inside wm6 is looking to do something
6) standart feautures of WM seems to be working correctly...does not look to be somehow special in this way
7) system startup is REALLY FAST - nearly like old iPAQs are...well, not as fast, but it is twice faster than WM5
Finally - this ROM seems to be...hmmm...somehow...little bit...chinese :-(
Willl provide more info if my employer will not kill me - this is not a testing machine, but the only phone i have :-D home I'll survive few days with chinese OS....
nocturne, come on ICQ, waiting for you there
so it's only in chinese
yes, I flashed this rom as well. It works in 100%. We're (me and nocturne) trying to figure out how to replace mui files now so to make it an WWE version.
oh,really cool guys.
It will be possible to donwgrade to a WM5 after the upgrade?
of course.
Working well
Well, I have flashed the ROM as well (2007-03-14_Charmer_WM6_OS_MSYH_Clean_Consam_xBeta) and I think it is very fast (seems to me being faster than all WM5 ROMs I have tried). Chinese is the only "problem", will test it more.
Guys, hope you will manage the translation. Good luck.
EDIT: The only thing not working is Contacts application. Does anyone has the same problem? The applications does not even start.
Radek
no problems with contacts app - but is not mapped to common contact button, that's the only problem i see. calendar is not mapped to its button as well.
have look at smartdialing - it is excellent, finaly no problems using czech characters, no more tweaknig dll's necessary
for the first look, a havedecided that this rom does not contain word, excell etc - my info was wrong. they are just grouped into "office mobile" icon...
some strange behavior still remains - i have lost icons for notes and two other (unknown) apps. their link from program targets some help file, of course chinese running notes executable directly works well - it's strage. i have none application installed as i want to test stability of basic OS, not third party applications...
P.S.: still charmed by fast system bootup, reseting again and again just to se if next bootup will be as fast as previous :-D
Well, I know that it's not mapped to the button. But the application is not running, seems that it's starting but stops immediately. Well, Contacts app is the most important one for me So I revert to WM5 again and wait for other ROM. By the way, which ROM are you using, because there were 4 ROMs to download?

Is this ROM originally really Chinese?
Guys when I look into \Windows folder there are many DLL files with .0804 extension. Doesn't that mean that the ROM is originally not Chinese? If I'm not wrong, those extensions are used for translated files (MUI). Other interesting thing is that there are many english file names, eg. in \windows\AppButtons.
What do you mean about that?
melvincz: you could be right. I'm not 100% sure though. Don't even try to delete those files, you're system will freeze at 1st or 2nd splashscreen.
I flashed the 2007-03-24 rom_plus_consam and the contact application works fine for me.

[Apr 5, 2008] WM6.1 Clean 5.2.19202 (Build 19202.1.0.0)

Windows Mobile 6.1 Clean ROM (dev) - Ported from Windows Mobile 6.1 Localized Emulator Image (USA version). This version of WM6.1 is based on my Clean WM6. The main reason I cooked this ROM was to learn how to relocate nk.exe and resize the XIP. As you can see, it worked!
English-only xT9 (dated Sep 7, 2007)
Esmertec Java
Cyberon Voice Dial
SecurityOff (required, because some apps can't install with it on)
Known Bugs
Possible xT9 can't backspace on some websites bug.
Encryption in Security can't be set (in settings menu).
Prerequisites
Your device must be CID unlocked! See this thread.
Please report any bugs with a detailed explanation of how to reproduce them.
Change Log
Apr 5, 2008 - Changed core OS to a SYS dump from the Windows Mobile 6.1 Emulator Image because it is a complete USA ROM with the proper WM6.1 Bluetooth stack, PhoneIME, SimTkit, etc. Fixed wireless settings on home screen goes to Comm Manager.
Mar 27, 2008 - Updated to Moto Q8 core 1.07.24R, XIP rebuilt and resized, WM6.1 gets its own thread.
Mar 8, 2008 - xT9 and Bluetooth fixed.

Who needs NEO now that there is a built in WM6 sliding homescreen, it looks just like NEO and I actually like it better! Is there something that I'm missing about NEO that makes it so great?
GnatGoSplat, good job
xT9 Settings
After much research, I still can't believe that I am the only one that this is bothering! There is no way in either GnatGoSplat or Erofich's ROM to access the xT9 Settings. I type relatively fast and the xt9 keeps missing words because of the fact that it's trying to do word completion and next word prediction. I wish I could just turn these off. If anyone has in their \Windows directory a file called xt9settings.exe, please upload it for others to make use of it. I even tried copying the registry settings for these 2 options from an old WM5 device, and it still did not work. I'm pulling my hair out!
Alternatively, if there is any way to get rid of xT9 and have only the old regular T9 in this ROM, please let me know how to do it. I really want to upgrade my ROM to WM6, but unfortunately this is a massive deal breaker. I live on texting and e-mailing, and with the way it is now, it's simply unbearable.
Thanks in advance for your help - either GnatGoSplat or Erofich - or anyone else out there.
The problem with the xT9 is the device I got this from (S730) didn't have xT9Settings.exe. I think Erofich is using the same version (or close) as well which is probably why his ROMs don't have it.
I have xT9Settings.exe from the Shadow, but the Shadow version of xT9 is completely different - it is more like the xT9 used on the Touch and Touch Cruise for a 5x4 keypad. I don't know how to adapt that xT9 for the 12-key keypad, however, I can extract its xT9Settings.exe for you to try if you'd like.
No, no Office in this ROM. It's a clean ROM that is hopefully storage-friendly for 64MB devices.
When WM6.1 is officially released from HTC, then I'll convert all my WM6's over to WM6.1.

Thanks for looking into this for me. I guess it's worth a try to run the xt9settings.exe file even though it was made for the touch. You never know. It could be the same registry settings that get changed when you disable word completion and prediction. It may work.
Here's another question, is there any way to extract the xT9 files (or however you do it) from a device that does support the xt9 settings, and supports disabling the word completion/prediction? Or, is there any way to remove xt9 altogether (since from what I can tell, many people don't like it) and instead cook in the regular T9 from WM5 into this ROM?
Ok, I'll make a CAB for xT9Settings tonight.
I did try it out and didn't notice the xT9 acting any differently when checking/unchecking the checkboxes, but I don't use it that much so I really couldn't say for sure whether it had any effect or not. If you can step me through what each setting does and how to tell whether the setting change worked or not, I can try it out before bothering to make a cab for it.
Yes, if you let me know which device has working xT9Settings, I could probably extract it.
xT9 can be removed and old T9 added in, but that's what I had originally and got overwhelming response to switch to xT9.
T9 and xT9 are from the same company, Tegic. They've abandoned T9 and xT9 is their current product. I think a lot of people are using the "newer is better" mentality, although I seldom used either so I have no opinion either way.
IS there anything different with this new posting of v6.1 from when you originally posted it in the v6 thread?
A little... it's a newer build with XIP completely redone (resized and complete with ALL WM6.1 XIP modules). Default font is also Segoe. Other than that, not much difference.
Sorry for my bad english!

Cool - hadn't noticed the StrTrk support there! Thanks for the mention!
Very fast and clean! Good work!

Start typing the word "there" for example, if after you type "the" it pops up with suggestions like "there" and "they" etc, then the "Word Completion" feature being unchecked did not work. Or try typing "hey there hey" and if the word "there" shows up underlined after the second "hey", then the "Prediction" feature being disabled didn't work. Either way, I would appreciate if you could send me the xt9settings.exe file or a cab so I can try it for myself.

Yes, if you let me know which device has working xT9Settings, I could probably extract it.

Apparantly the HTC Shadow has it. I've found on forums people referencing it.

xT9 can be removed and old T9 added in, but that's what I had originally and got overwhelming response to switch to xT9.

Is there any way to make a cab file that will replace xT9 with T9 or vice versa?
Thanks again so much for taking the time to help me with this.

[resolved] using multiple/foreign language dictionaries?

First of all, thanks for this forum -- rooted my NT (first android device) yesterday using the instructions here and it's delightful.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a solution or workaround for using multiple dictionaries?
I'd like to be able to read foreign language content using the instant lookup function, but it seems that this is not built into the nook (unbelievable). Being able to replace the default English-English dictionary would also be great. Although this is a feature on the Kindle, it isn't available on the Kindle for Android app (also unbelievable). I looked at other eReader software, but "dictionary support" seems to amount to ColorDict. I'd be more than happy to splash out for some quality dictionaries, but only if I can integrate them into the reader.
The only thing I've been able to find is this, a Russian language forum where the OP seems to have gone into the file system and manually replaced the stock dictionary. I'll gladly do that if it comes down to it but was wondering if there was a less tedious / more obvious way.

I tried to figure out how to change the language to German last night, but had no lucky at it. ("ro.sys.locale.language" is set to "de", as well as the country code is "DE" but yet nothing has changed.)
I think that the B&N Nook shows an incredible lack of foreign language support, and is basically I guess targeted as a "US only" device. This probably explains why the Out Of Box Experience only presents one with US timezones when it starts up. v_v
So frustrating/ridiculous! Yes, it's a "US device" but it's foolish of B&N to ignore the tens of millions of people in the US who speak or study other languages (Spanish speakers alone are pushing 30 million).
I hope the hack I mentioned in my original post works. Still waiting on my SD card to try it out.
Anyway, I posted on the B&N forums about this:

If anyone agrees please click the laurel leaf icon so that this issue can (maybe) get some attention.
I agree... it actually upsets me quite often that US companies typically completely ignore other languages within the US.
Apple? First thing it asks me is "what language do you want to use?" They built that flexibility in from the start. On Windows? You buy the English version, and you're stuck with English (yes, Vista and later, you can download language packs after). So, then end up having to customize and sell different copies of the OS to every different market.
OSX: we build one binary, and hey, look it works.
Windows: we have to build a different binary for every different language, and oh, some of them might not work, because English is treated specially from all of the other languages.
Posting in case someone finds it helpful
My personal workaround for the time being --
I downloaded the German version of Kindle for Android, which comes with a built-in monolingual Duden dictionary. (Fortunately my German is strong enough for this to work. Quite useless for other languages/ability levels though.)
The downloaded dictionary appears to be visible in the file system with *.mpb and *.prc file extensions. I wonder if it would be possible simply to manually swap them out with a dictionary in the same format?
Install coolreader and colordict, then downlowd whatever dictionaries you need. There are many dictionaries available online.
@wwmhf -- After reading your post I decided to dig a little deeper. I downloaded GoldenDict and then discovered lingvodics.com.
Okay, absolutely no more angst over this issue. Thanks!

Hello could you please update the title and add [resolved] at the start.
Thanks

Hi, try d/l an app from the market called more locale. Don't know if that suit your need of the dictionary thing, but definitely give your NT more locale to choose from (with most of the menus and some system apps name translated).
I'm on a rooted device with snowball mod in HK and wanted to play with the google voice search function for Cantonese and find no way of activating it since I can't choose any language apart from English US and UK (duh....)
After installing the more local app, I can select google voice to work with Cantonese search.
Perhaps Veronica can considering putting this under the NT Tips and Trick sticky for other poor souls that need an alternate locale.

Hey pal... I´m thinking about buying a Nook Touch. It´s cheaper and more beautiful than eReaders available in Germany. Nonetheless, I´m Brazilian - neither English nor German is my native language. I would like to have this Duden Dictionary for German books and whatever the original platform has for the english language.
How could I do that? Would you make a tutorial step-by-step for me? I´m totally rookie on these issues.
Thanks!
