dcd titan 2.2.x + wmwifirouter - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I've tried getting wmwifirouter to work on every build and can't get it to work. I've used it with no problem easily on 1.6.9 and lower but not any of the WM6.1 builds. I use it with my iPod Touch when on the bus. Can someone help please?

I have it working on mine and I am running 2.2.3. Make sure that the Wifi switch is turned on before you install the app otherwise you will have problems.

also make sure you are running the latest wifirouter
and ALSO make sure it is switched on BEFORE you open the app and BEFORE you click connect.....
also, I have found it helps to make sure that you are connected to the internet BEFORE you open and before you switch on the wifi...

i've followed those steps precisely and it doesnt work. I'm running dcd titan 2.2.6 and wmwifirouter 0.91. its only worked for my on the old versions. i can connect to my ipod touch with the old version just not the with the 2.x versions. has anyone tried it with 2.2.4 or 2.2.6?

You might have to create a adhoc connection on your phone. I know the newer version does this for you, but I have had better success creating a connection.
Steps
1. Click on "Start", "Settings", "Connections", and select "Wi-Fi".
2. Click on "Menu", "Add New.."
3. Under "Network Name" create a name you want to call your connection. Make sure "Connects to" is set for The Internet. Check the box for ad-hoc connection. Click "Next"
4. "Authentication" should be Open, "Data Encryption" should be Disabled.
5. Click "Next" then "Finish"

I can confirm WMWifiRouter worked on 2.2.3 and does not work on 2.2.6 (out of the box, at least).
I will try an ad-hoc connection tonight and see if it works. If not, I'm prolly going to downgrade back to 2.1.0.

WMWifirouter 0.91 works on 2.2.6. I just used it about 20 mins ago while i was on the road
JD

It works for me too but I get kicked off line about every 5-10 mins. Is this sprints fault?

Can somebody send me the .93 (or .91) cab, so i can try in on my setup? I lost my memory card and it was on it.

Can anyone once and for all actually confirm that you do not get charged the $15/month fee for using WMWifiRouter?
Thanks and hope everything works out well for Chainfire

that's right...I forgot. Removing cab file.

@dalvarez7,
I think you should remove that file as Chainfire doesn't want it distributed.

What $15 a month fee are you talking about. If you have a unlimited data plan you should not encounter any extra fees for the carrier.

Yes, but our lovely cellular carriers like to charge us an extra 15 dollar a month tethering fee if they detect you're using your phone for internet on your laptop.

I have never had a extra fee charged for using WifiRouter but I am on Verizon so I can not say for sure for any other carrier. I know that Verizon has a tethering option but I think, and I could be wrong, that the only way they can tell you are connecting with your computer is because you are using their program to do it. When you connect with WifiRouter you are using a program called internet sharing which is usually not installed on the phones when you first get them. This program uses NAT translation and routing to provide connectivity to computers through the wireless link on your phone. To the provider they only see your phone connected to the internet as all connections to the internet are processed by the routing software on the phone. I suppose that they could analyze all traffic over the link but I doubt that they do that as it seems it would be more hassle then it is worth and it would be hard to prove that it came from a computer and not from the phone.

What does it mean when it says it is looking for ICS? is that something that needs to be installed on my laptop?

share 3G via WiFi?

I thought I saw a .cab file here somewhere that would allow you to bridge the 3G/EDGE connection to the WiFi connection so I can share my 3G over WiFi to laptop or whatever.
Anyone seen this? I cant remember the name, thought it was something like WMBridge or something.
Thanks

internet connection sharing will allow you to share your 3G over bluetooth or USB to your laptop !!
and now that I think about it you can almost certainly go through the arduous and difficult task of getting activesync to connect over an adhoc wifi connection, once that is done you will be able to use the phone as a 3G modem for your laptop.

u can do it tht way but its hard, and requires a registry hack, which to be fair doesnt work all that well, disconns after a couple of mins at best, bluetooth is the way to go if u want wireless connecton, although i use the lead for security, u can use the 3g conn as a modem, but then if u like us use tmob wb and walk then u cnt use ur data package.
hope this helps

The app is called wmWifiRouter. Looks like they just came out with a new version the 10th. Forget bluetooth, its not secured at all, and only lets you share with one device. With wmwifirouter you can share with many. See the link below.

excellent that is exactly what I was looking for, I will play with it today and see if I can get it to work.
Thanks

Should be a simple matter of copying the exe to your device and running it. It takes care of all the registry settings, starting up Internet Sharing, keeping the connection alive, and with the latest version you can even put the unit to sleep and your connection will stay alive. About the only thing it doesn't do is set up a peer-to-peer profile with a fixed IP address, but the thread above walks you through that. Make sure you set the profile to use WPA encryption (NOT WEP or 'open') and set a password.

I finally got around to trying this and have had no luck. I followed the directions as best as I could tell. Anyone verify if this works on the Athena? I used to have the method set up manually but hadn't set it up again since updating to AP3.0. This would be much handier... if works!

The directions are confusing because the newer method was grafted onto the same thread as the older method. So it's hard to tell what's what. I put about an hour into this but made no progress. The exe file doesn't appear to do anything on the Athena...

Sorry, just saw your response as I wrote mine. Here is what I did:
1. set up an ad hoc network on my Athena. IP address 192.168.0.1 (another place saide 192.168.0.7--tried both)
2. Set up on my client (MacBook Pro). A connection was established.
3. Ran the exe file -- nothing happened. One comment said to deactivate the network before running. I did this in various degrees with no success.
4. Also opened up the Internet Sharing applet and tried to connect manually -- "USB cable is not connected."
Clearly I'm missing something here. It would be very handy to have this capability. Can you clarify??
Not sure why you are having a problem - I unzipped the zip, transfered the exe to the athena and it ran on the first try after first setting up the ad-hoc wifi connection (settings, connections, wi-fi, network adapters tab, IEEE..., use specific IP address in the 192.168.x.x range; then go to the other tab and set up an ad-hoc connection).
I had an even worse experience. Everytime I ran the exe, my Athena locked up, needing a complete reset each time.
I gave up in the end .
I have got other methods to work using Mortscipts, but it does seem like something that would be well worth someones time sorting out for the good of us all.
Have you tried the latest version of wmWifiRouter? The developer released a new version of it earlier this month. Its on version 0.8 now.

Internet Sharing Wifi Data?

Is it possible to use ICS with wifi connection instead of cellular connection? Would be useful for a makeshift wireless adapter if your regular NIC or wireless NIC fails.
It seems that even if I have a wifi connection already going and then I launch ICS and connect, it still tries to dial out and use the cellular connection. You would think if it can share cellular data it could share wifi data just as easily but maybe im missing something.
Back in the early days of WiFi internet sharing the private interface was changed to WiFi with a manual registry edit. It might be possible to change the public interface to USB instead of defaulting too the cellular radio. It would probably take a fair amount of troubleshooting, but I'd think it would be possible. I think the entries were at HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing. Might be a starting point...
Search for WMWifiRouter
WiFiRouter
WiFiRouter works by making your ppc into a virtual access point. Then you can share the internet through it.
Last time I looked however, the author had withdrawn the program from circulation at version 0.91. There must be some problems with it because the author indicated that he would release a new version once he ironed out some bugs. If it is not back in distribution yet, you might be still able to find it on a torrent site. If not, PM me and I will send you the cab. Some of the cab collections at ppcgeeks ftp have it inside too. One good collection to check is Alex's.
I have used it and it works.

wmwifirouter is not what he's looking for. That is still using your phones internet. He wants to see how he could use the phone as a Network card, using the wifi connection, as oppossed to the sprintpcs connection.
I too would be very interested in this happening, if anyone knows of a way please tell.
ok, but why ??
Why would you actually want to do this anyway ??? I will look into it but it makes no sense when a USB WiFi dongle is $30 or so and does not run your phone down to use it, why would you want to use your phone as a very expensive USB WiFi card ??? Maybe I am missing some golden benefit ????
I dont get it either, but he did say in an emergency if your wifi went out.
Thank you for the responses.
Yes, it would be useful if your wireless nic went out (or regular nic for that matter) just to have something to use for the moment. Or maybe you brought your computer to a friends house and hes out of ports or you dont want to run 50ft cable to his kitchen table
But the titan has wireless, it has internet sharing, why doesnt the wireless show up in the list of available networks? I'm not saying its an all important feature but it would be yet another cool thing your phone could do.
i looking to use my mogul as a wifi access point (sharing Spint Vision thru wifi)
i tryed the procedure to mod the registry to enable it but i cant get it to work.
anyone know the exact procedure for the mogul
btw i also checked out WMWifiRouter...looks like it's no longer free
I also wanna know
Look the idea is simple. So where is the phone ICS telling it to use the celluar line and not allowing the option of the wifi?
Pls any one contact me. Its a cool feature for a phone

I bought software called Walking Hotspot, which essentially turns my Mogul/Titan into something like a Mifi, sharing my cellular data with my laptop. Otherwise known as tethering.
I only use it for emergencies because I am not sure if Sprint can tell that I am tethering. I believe if Sprint detects unauthorized tethering they will charge 4 cents per kilobyte of data .. which is very harsh!

Verizon tethering of XV6800 via USB

First of all, this is what I have:
Phone: XV6800
i have an "unlimited pda" plan through Verizon
ROM: DCD 3.1.6
RADIO: 3.42.30
I want to usb tether my phone to my laptop to use it as a modem. I do not want to incur any extra charges. (verizon warned me of a 20 dollar fee if i tether with out that option added to my plan).
There must be a way to do this, without getting charged.
Any help would appreciated.
Use the internet connection sharing in the Comm Manager, using either Bluetooth or USB. Works like a charm.
I like using WMWifiRouter, but that isn't USB, it's through the wifi

This works perfectly, you can even use it through bluetooth. I don't incur any extra charges. I know it works for sure with DCD's roms, because I am not getting charged. There is some reg key that gets changed so VZW does not know you are tethering.
Are there any USB drivers needed to get Internet Connection Sharing working through USB?
No, just plug the phone into your pc and start ICS.... It should DHCP an IP for your pc and surf away....

thats badass. i thought only WMWiFiRouter would work without me being charged. but it did mess up my wifi ability. thaanks

Wmwifirouter is also a great program, but (speaking from several months ago) when I would use it consistently over a period of time at school, or in a hotel, etc, it would overheat.
Using the USB method doesn't do that at all, and also seems to keep things going quick.
works
ok i can confirm that it works nicely. i am using internet sharing via usb and its nice and easy. as long as i dont get charged this will be lovely.
i think the secret cap on unlimited pda usage for verzon is 20 gigs a month. i'll just make sure i dont go over that.
thanks again for your help guys

You have to have upgraded to a DCD rom.
Dan
also note that ICS, is called "Internet Sharing" on DVD's roms and is in the program menu. not under settings. that confused me too, being a former herald owner, i had a cooked rom where the chef always had it in connection settings.
I use PdaNet and it works just fine for tethering. USB and Bluetooth.
ICS Advice
FYI - ICS works great but you must launch it on your phone first and tell it to connect before tethering it via USB to your computer.
Hope this helps.
VZW internet connection and Mac
Is there a way to use ICS or anything else to share internet (usb/bt/wifi) with a Mac (i've got a macbook) ? i've tried WMWifirouter but haven't gotten any of the versions to work with DCD 3.2.3...
thanks!
So I have tried this every way I can think of and not had any luck. I had it working a long time ago, but am having no luck now. I am using ICS and I have tried the reg edits under wmodem for CheckProfile=0, Multi-NAI=0, WModemDun=0. My phone connects to my laptop and opens a LAN connection and under status says "acquiring network address" for about a minute. It then pops up the yield sign and says "Limited or No Connectivity" On the phone side everything looks good. I get an error that says cannot connect sometimes, but not always. I tried deleting the Extension key under the Internet Sharing registry and still no luck. Anybody have any ideas? Is this a phone thing or a laptop thing. I am on WinXP and it does show in the device manager that a Internet Connection Sharing Device is attached and working. Thanks for any help.

just use WMWiFi Router

Okay, Okay, i follow. Removing "Dun" from a serve string was exactly what i had to do on my voyager and other LG phones to hack the dun. I have had QPST installed on my PC before but never needed it because i used bitpim, so i uninstalled it. I didnt know QPST even worked for pocket PCs. I thought it was for quailcomm and LG phones.
so would i do it the same way? Hook my phone up to my pc and run QPST file explorer on my PC? Also, do you have a copy of it or know where i can download?
You should check out PDAnet. There is a website called warez-bb. They have all kinds of programs to download for free. PDAnet usually costs money but you can download it off of warez-bb for free.

Fastest way to get a virus.....Fact.
I only deal with rated torrents from trusted sites. Thanks for the reply, but ive tried it and it doesnt work. I dont need a program to make a dial up connection on my PC using my phone as a modem. The problem was that you can dial out but verizon has a http portal page that pulls up saying that you need to buy the service. I needed a way to get into the service menu of my phone and change the outgoing server. Only, i didnt know if there was a service menu on this phone. But someone was nice enough to show me how to access it, and like my voyager, i just changed the string and now i can use free dun. No QPST needed.
Cheers to free tethering.

You can download PDAnet for free from their website. I use it on my Touch Pro and Blackjack II.
Thanks, i have ICS. I just needed a hack to bypass verizon.
Why would you use PDAnet anyway? just make a dial out account with the #777 settings etc and set your phone (bluetooth or USB) as the modem.
PDANet just runs as a app in your tray and you just need to right click and click connect. I have not tried any others really. I have just found this one really easy to use.

think about this for a minute. if you have wifi, why would you need tether?
of course tethering works on data only, it uses your wifi ON THE PHONE to create its own wifi network
you dont have to download any app, just open Settings, Wireless and Networks, MOBILE HOTSPOT, and turn it on.....
well thanks pirateghost...for the somewhat sarcastic reply. lol .
yes, sure that does make sense, duh! ...i guess it hadn't occured to me bc i assumed tethering was done thru a usb cable as i had done on WM before. something was wrong with my settings to make the wifi hotspot connect. i had to open the apn and save it (without making changes to it). this allowed it to connect and now have it working thru the hotspot.

Haha nice catch I didnt notice that. Let me power up my delorean and get 6.5 for all us. I think that is the last version before Motorola unlocked the bootloader. Wireless tether is what is recommended since there are many guides for it and works with all operating systems whereas usb would not. You could try pdanet which I paid for but not on my current device. That supports both however $30 might be more than you are willing to pay for usb support
