SMS problems in wm6.1? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

Hi,
I'm still on wm6. Thinking of upgrading to wm6.1, but there have been far too many msgs complaining of sms sending problems. Is that for a fact? I mean, is it a serious enough problem to stay away from wm6.1? It would be interesting to know if majority of ppl with wm6.1 are sending and receiving smses bug-free.
TIA.

For me, I need my SMS/MMS and couldn't afford to spend time troubleshooting or trying to find what could be the cause of it. But I did try most of the WM6.1 ROMs as well changing the Radio ROMs but still not OK for me.
So I am now back to WM6.0 - Crystal V5 ROM from cloudyfa
working great so far.
my 5cents worth of view .. heheh.

Even I switched back to WM6 after trying 6.1, only because of sms issues.

What kind of sms issues?
Because for me it's all apparently ok, but who knows if I'm loosing tons of messages

Yeah Sam.. seems like ppl have been losing msgs, not been able to send them etc. etc.. many sms related problems.
Thanks for the replies.. so I'll just stay away from 6.1 for the time being!!

Chat style sms ( never liked it ) can be fixed though. i switched back mainly because of sms sending failure. it was too annoying.

edit: <removed reply> too much a wise guy... didn't read well... sorry!

Threaded sms from 6.1

I'm glad to see dcd, colonel and etc... are cranking out these new roms like crazy, but after hearing that you have to call verizon for the akey, which i had to do once already and don't feel like doing it again. I'm just wondering if someone has the cab for the new threaded sms that comes in wm6.1. That's all i really want i would just stick with the ported palm version, but i keep sending multiple text to people and no one has figured out how to solve that yet. So if anyone can help please let me know.
Sending multiple messages was narrowed down to closing the app completely before a message was done sending. If you are using something that closes the program instead of minimizing it like x button or spb pp I suggest you set the palm app to be excluded. It solved the multiple message problem for me.
I switched to 6.1 due to the fact that its more responsive and whenever I opened the keyboard right after clicking reply the palm app got confused and for some reason opened the dialer after a few letters were typed. This does not happen with the 6.1 threaded SMS.

You only need to reprogram those settings when u upgrade the radio.
I've flashed many different versions of DCD's roms and the only time my settings were wiped out was when I went from the old radio to the new 3.27 radio.
Correct me if I'm wrong please, but that has been my experience.
Going from 2.0 to 2.1 to 2.2 I've only had to call Verizon for an A-Key once, and it's no big deal, just say you lost it in a hard reset.
I am also interested in a CAB of this, if possible. Not ready to start flashing my phone yet, but a native threaded text messaging application would sure be nice.
DCD, any chance, when you update your ROM with XIP 199 that you put back in the stock voice speed dialer and stock dialer screen (not the HTC?) for Verizon? I know I'm probably asking for too much, but I just cant get used to the plainness of the HTC dialer; and the Cyberon voice speed dial is somewhat unstable when installed from a cab for whatever reason.

come to think of it when i did a hard reset that's when i had to call verizon, but after i flashed to dcd's 1.6 clean rom i didn't have to call. So it must be when the radio gets an upgrade. Now to choose which rom to get 2.1 or 2.2
This thread is dead on, the only remotely nice part of wm6.1 is the threaded sms from microsoft themselves. Has anyone been able to cook it into a 3.16 rom yet?

so why not just flash 6.1? it does run a bit faster imo, that alone is worth the upgrade

WM 6.1 without "threaded" SMS?

Been lots of posts over on PPCgeeks with no response regarding the borked SMS on WM6.1. Does anyone have any ideas how to get SMS to function normally in WM6.1?
I don't see a way to not have it group all messages by the sender in one big long list. I believe this is what some are refering to as 'threaded' but it's obviously not capable of threading since there's no subject line.
Would love to find a solution. Or hope someone keeps the WM6.0 version ROMS available.
Oops. Duplicates

Benefits of wm6.1

Guys and gals,
I have a question about wm6.1. I see quite a number of versions on the forum and I tried 2 or 3 (maybe 4), but reverted back to wm6 shadow clean (5.2.19.48 wwe) and working with it for more than 1 month.
My question now is "what is the benefit of 6.1?" or since I read a lot about problems (with bluetooth) "why is 6.1 better or what are the new features?"
Thanks
The only visible benefit of Wm6.1 is threaded SMS like Palm OS Chat. Other feature is not so transparent to the end user and more networking related.

How about the Task Manager shipped with WM6.1^^?
Thank God M$ finally dished out something edible---the shipped TM is brilliant not only because of its small size but its "precise" reports on both CPU and Memory usages for each application and service.
If it not were the incompatibility between WM6 and the TM, I will defenitely switch back to WM6 at this moment^^
Read What's new in WM6.1
PS: The threaded SMS application is rather annoying.

yeh... i agree with you.... is really annoying!
The threaded SMS is more like MS' "Me Too" answer to Palm and Iphone that WM now also support threaded SMS native to the OS. It will win the heart of some die hard Palm fan (like myself).
benefit
In the mean time, i have tried all Cooked WM6.1 and so far i though there is no big benefit using it.
- Battery drain is a little bit faster than wm6
- Threaded SMS is very annoying since cannot move to another folder and cannot be backed up.
So from my opinion, it is better to stick with WM 6

I love threaded sms - it's a great improvement over normal texting for me.
Not complaining!
I am not making any complaint to all the great men cooking great roms.
If the 6.1 roms are not good (enough), it is only because the OS 6.1 is not good enough and maybe a next version (built) will solve a lot of problems which are no floating around on this forum.
In my case, 6.1 solved many issues. My biggest was losing calls back in 6.0. I was ready to sell my mobile, but when I upgraded to 6.1, everything worked fine-Faster - no problems at all! Now I'm gonna keep my good old S200!!

Fring works awesome on my AP4 I love it and it allows for me to use my bluetooth headset for calls I have configured and tested all services (with the exception of twitter). It does have a strange hick-up in that it mutes my VOIP calls at the start, so manual adjustment is required, I also wish that I could group the services independently, but aside from a few little quirks, it is soo much better than skype ever was... it also allows for integrated phone call history, integrated dial-pad and chat.
Has anyone gotten SMS to work yet? one of my phone contacts is also in skype so it sets her default text messages to her skype account rather than via SMS.
I will play with it a bit more but it answers one of my biggest concerns about skype and it gets us working with bluetooth, as it should have been all along...
Thanks again and hope this helps...

Yes, it is annoying that bluetooth mutes when the call is made and answered... but hey, we got functional voice in skype, google talk etc. and even better Skype voice works over an EDGE connection without trouble. I am impressed.
However, the best quality calls are Fring to Fring calls.
I can't help you with the phone book integration, but maybe the fring fourm people can help.
Thanks for the post and for the tip on the application, I am sure that they will be improving upon the application in the future, I will continue to keep my eyes open for updates... If you have a link to an active user community for fring, let me know.
In the interim, I fully agree and am impressed with FRING

Just a quick update, I have just been trying out the Full rom from Irus and it runs skype with no problems. As irus's rom is WM 6.1 it would indicate that the compatibility problem is not with WM 6.1 but with something else in AP 4.0.
Regards
Jay
Jay, thanks for the great news, please keep us posted on your progress
from what pk explained to me... the roms that run skype are just ports of 6.1 not full 6.1
ap4 is a full 6.1 rom therefor it wont work
skype is incompatible with 6.1
There are known compatibility issues with skype and pk addressed this a few times.Check the ap4 thread by pawel.
edit: deactivate htc home and/or install the htc home from addond.Home is a major resource hog.

Where can I find the text mms program for the dvd rom?

I just flashed back to the new stock Telus rom for now. I love the DCD roms but I'm trying the stocker for now. I really miss that application where all messages get stored under one contact like in the dcd version.
Anyone know where I can find an installable cab file for this?
I tried doing a search, I always try many many searches even before ever coming to the conclusion that maybe I have to ask around.. even on the other site, but I couldn't find anything for some reason.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

MMS I believe wasn't available on Telus. If you are talking about Threaded SMS, then WM6.1 comes with it built in already. You just have to have a registry key set properly.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\SMSInboxThreadingDisabled=0... I believe if you just delete that value completely, you will be good. Obviously do a soft-reset... and make sure it saved.
That's what I was looking for exactly. Threaded SMS. I realize that Telus, in their short sight didn't realize that people with great phones that eclipse those of the more basic phones would want to send pics too. Very frustrating.
Thanks man.
That was exactly what I was looking for. Worked like a charm, nitro!
