Then leave, no offense.
If you don't want to mod it, then take what your provider gave you and be happy. If not, then download some commercial applications.
But if you want to improve your phone, and make it realize it's full potential, then you are gonna have to get in to some mods.
Sorry mate, I'm just fed up with all the "how do I make my phone neato keano" questions from people.
It takes some willingness to experiment, some computer know how, and 99 times out of 100 all will be well. (BTW, I'm the one out of the hundred, I totally bricked one).
Retail ROMS, no such thing, you can't buy em.
Heh, jeez man, you seem to make alot of assumptions based on no information.
I am very computer literate, and I am passing down my phone to somebody else who has no clue how to do this stuff and probably does not care for it either.
I had a cooked ROM on it, but went back to a retail SPL and installed the retail AT&T (Beta?) WM6 Rom on my 8525.
Seriously though, you shouldn't assume such things about people especially over the internet.
The key benefit to HardSPL is that it protects accidental overwrite of SPL & IPL. Basically, it protects against bricking the phone. If it were me, I would always keep HardSPL, even if I were running a retail ROM. It really only affords protection during flashing process, so if you are not going to flash anything, you really don't need it - kinda like wearing a condom whike you aren't having sex, I guess. However, unlike the condom example, when you do decide to flash again, you would have to put HardSPL on there, which is itself a flashing process, so you would be vulnerable.
Always practice safe flashing!
Thanks, Todd.
I think you already answered about this in the other thread...but not yet. I can't get a retail ROM to install without extracting it first..even on SPL-Retail
lol i remember when i got my x01ht... i wanted to keep it softbank and just have this sexy phone from japan.... I read japanese so that wouldnt have been a problem and I am moving back to japan next year, so I thought it was perfect.
I had to unlock it using a code (which worked after flashing to hardspl 1.10 and then back to hardspl 2.10), but softbank still had that stupid welcome.exe issue. So i flashed to HTC's WM6 wwe rom. No more 'neato keano' for me.
Then i discovered letsjapan and ime3_1qvga (whatever its called)... I can have my japanese functionality with an english rom!! w00t.
Then i discovered schaps... I am so far from neato keano... but still barely breaking the surface.
I know this story is pointless, but if anyone is reading this with the 'neato keano' idea... get real, try some stuff and you will never go back (unless for warranty purposes ).

Is your phone CID unlocked? Maybe you have a mismatched CID. HardSPL bypasses the CID check, retail does not.

Hi Todd,
my phone is unlocked via a code from AT&T, so I didn't use any of the tools found on this forum. So I think it is still SuperCIDed??
The updater just crashes, I posted a screenshot in the other thread. If I extract the directory and run the RUU by itself it flashes fine.
Maybe because I am trying to flash the same ROM again on top of the same one??

Well, the code almost certainly would not superCID your phone. Only remove the SIM lock. The RUU is checking the CID restriction on the phone and disallowing the flash. The only flash that would work without unpacking is the one intended for and released by your carrier - AT&T rom to AT&T rom, for example. As I mentioned, the reason unpacking works is because Oli's RUU bypasses the CID check. Does seem odd that the same ROM won't flash though...
yesterday i upgraded my qtek 9000 and a brand new x7500. i want to install the 3.0 version on it. but ive read that i first have to unlock my x7500 before i can install 3.0. can someone send me a tutorial or something to do this? i really don t know where to start.......
Is your device locked to a specific mobile carier? Then you need to Unlock for using with other cariers.
Not sure if ROM upgrades require unlocking but they need HardSPL which is often found along with the ROM upgrade or in this forum separately.

hi. My device is NOT locked by a mobile carier. What is hardSPL?
For "unlock" your device you need the Athena Unlocker:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315831
Without this you cant update an other ROM to your device.
Here is a wiki page about the hardslp (for hermes, sorry):
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HardSPL
More questions?
bye
can i add you to my msn so we can talk for 10 minutes? I need some more info
.com
There are plenty of threads on the subject - and everything is covered. If not then post questions here.
I really hate it when people ask to add me to MSN to answer questions because they can't be assed to RTFM
All I wanted was to have some direct (fast) chat. SORRY
I have bought an original HTC X7500 (not locked by any mobile carier, i think). All I would like to know are some basis steps WHAT I need to do in order to upgrade to 3.0 PK.
I ve just checked something and can give the following infomation. Maybe you guys can make something of this and what I will need to do:
ATHE100
IPL-v1.00
ATHE100
SPL-v1.10.0000
Have you actually read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346221 ?
there are tutorials including a video already on this available on this subject, read the thread that has been suggested and do a search for unlocker.
sorry if that sounds rude but theres plenty been written on this already lots of times, without people having to repeat themselves over and again
the video is very self explanatory
again guys, I m really sorry
So if I understand correctly I need OliPro's hardspl OR unlocker found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316846 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315831.
Is it correct if I say that the unlocker does a SIMunlock AND CIDunlock, and the hardspl only does CIDunlock?
So now I only have to do is find out IF my device is SIMlocked or not? Do you maybe give me a hint how to check this?
Correct things if I m wrong please, and again, sorry......
If it's an HTC it won't be SIM locked - only carriers lock the phones to themselves.

1. Go to wiki, read everything concerning unlocker, upgrading rom, and radio. Read it carefully. If you're completely clueless, it's not going to give you a complete walkthrough, but should be read.
2. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316846
Read first post and download Athena wrapper. Put all downloads in a folder you can easily find and distinguish from any roms or unlockers you may download.
3. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319993
Download a radio. I'm using 1.50.00.00, i'm not sure where the new one is. Try different ones though, once your comfortable with the process, they say some radios work better in different areas.
4. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346221
Read ALL of the first to posts. Download the ROM file. I would suggest the add-ons too, and see which ones you like.
5. You will have to extract all of these files. You will need Winrar to unpack the rom.
6. Backup any data you want to keep from your Athena. Remove mini SD and SIM. Hard reset your Athena, and select to format microdrive.
7. Be sure your Athena is fully charged. I don't think it has to be a complete charge, but it won't hurt. At least 60%.
8. Turn off all energy save options on your Athena. You don't want it to power down halfway through the operation. You will also need to disable any sleep\hibernatin modes on your PC.
9. You will need ActiveSync 4.5, Windows xp, and .net2.0 framework with all servicepacks. If your not sure about the framework, go to micrsoft and search for a download. Run the installer, if it says its already installed, select 'repair.' This is more than likely not necessary, but it won't hurt anything. Connect Athena to PC, and wait until its fully synchronized.
10. Run the Athena Wrapper. Follow all instructions. Its very simple, but do EXACTLY as it says.
11. Run the RUU file in the radio folder, follow all instructions.
12. Run the RUU file in the AP3 rom folder. Follow all instructions.
13. If desired, extract and run the add-ons.
14. Donate to Athena Project, or Pawel, or Olipro, or somebody.
15. If you screw this up, don't tell anyone, I wouldn't anyway.
The seller said it is unlocked. How can I verify it?
I read CID Unlocking and Sim Unlocking. How can I confirm both.
Also, how can I tell which version of the radio?
and which version of SPL (3.5 or 1.2)?
Or is there any great tutorial I can setup for the AP4?
I am starting to get confused.
the seller probably was not lying as it is easy to do (thanks to olipro - cmonex/olinex) but if you want to check, press and hold your camera button, whilst doing that press the reset button, and tell us the details on the rainbow screen.
this will also tell you if it is SPL 1.1-1.2 or 3.5
when your done just press reset again
LOCKing is related to SPL. SPL is a part of the "bios" (just to use the PC paradign IPL and SPL are "extended bios" ), then you have the RADIO section of the rom and the OS (WMxx)
Other part of the rom are the EXTENDED ROM (where the file needed for operator customizzation during first install are stored) and splash screens (a FULL ROM means IPL,SPL, SPLASH 1, SPLASH 2, RADIO, OS, EXTENDED ROM).
This "bios" , called SPL can receive commands from RUU (Rom Update Utility, the sw used to flash the rom file). ROM info are "wrapped" in a .nbf file and the RUU, interacting with SPL with some batch commands, flash into the device memory the ROM parts (Splash are flashed in their locations, os, radio, ....) RUU opens the .nbf file, read abatch command file, and send the commands to the SPL to flash the rom sections
Now you can understand how a custom ROM is done: using a "kicken" you can prepare a .nbf file containing the data and the batch command file used by RUU to flash it in the right location of your ROM (SPL, RADIO, OS, SPLASH, or all together) SPL is a KEY part for this process.
With the stock RUU IPL and SPL some controls are done before flashing, first of all device's language and vendor ID, so called CID. If they doesn't mach with the ROM file you will have an error and RUU exits: wrong language, wrong vendor, ....
Flashing a custom SPL you avoid this check (or it sets the CID to "supercid", it means I accept every language and vendor ID)
The SIM unlock (phone working with all SIM card) needs something more complex. In the ATHENA FORUM whe have ATHENA UNLOCKER, from OLIPRO, for SIM Unlock and CID Unlock and ATHENA WRAPPER, just for CID unlock. They will update the HTC SPL to OLIPRO 1.2
Hi sergiopi,
Your post is so concise. You told us the whole theory it may take me more than a day to find. You have the potential to be a book author. Thanks anyway.
Questions:
1. How can I tell whether the sim is unlocked?
2. How can I tell whether the cid is unlocked? Or it is no harm to run the ATHENA UNLOCKER again?
3. What is the different btw SPL 3.5 and 1.2? Should I update it? I am planning to run the AP4.
Thanks again!
Did you completely miss my previous post, if you follow the simple instructions. I gave you earlier, we will be able to answer all your questions.

To check if your Athena is SIM Unlocked take a SIM from your friend's phone who is in another network and put it in your Athena. If it refuses to accept the SIM then it is locked and you have to unlock it. If it accepts the SIM and lets you place a call, it is SIM unlocked and most probably CID Unlocked. To check if it is CID unlocked just do what ice_coffe says.
I didn't miss the post from ice_coffee. My Athena is still in shipping. I just want to get more info first. Besides testing with a real sim card, is there any method we can run from the machine?

Listen Alui. The question numbr 3 shows of your post shows that you are realy a noobie. So if you are still waiting for your new device, do not waste your time but start reading. If you already decided that you want to go for AP4, then did you realy read the AP4 thread from first post? I am almost sure, you didn't.
So please remember, if you do not know what you are doing then you have a big chance to convert your super device into a brick.
And once more, if you browse this forum, you can see how many threads is there, and how many post is in each thread. If you see this you should be sure that you are not the first person here who just got his new device. All your questions were answered many times here so just read and read and after a week of reading start to plan what to do next.
Hi there,
I'm looking to upgrade my stock (and unlocked) x7501 to WM6.1. First up i'd like to say that I *have* read the forums, and I *have* read lots of threads about upgrading. Unfortunately it seems I still don't understand what the entire process is.
Firstly, what is SPL? I could not discover what this acronym means. Thus, how do I determine my SPL version, and does this have anything to do with the fact that my phone is factory unlocked or not? Apparently the first step is to run something like Hard-SPL unlocker but my phone is unlocked - I don't want to do something unnecessary or brick the phone.
It seems unfortunate that other users asking similar questions to me got flamed for not reading or 'not reading enough' but i can say that unless i missed a crucial reading thread (i have read all the stickys) then it certainly isnt very clear what the process is.
Any help much appreciated.
hi
a little help on the acronyms from the wiki page:
CID lock (aka vendor lock): puts on your device by the manufacturer to prevent installation of a ROM not released by them.
HardSPL: This modified bootloader allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing. See the official thread for more info.
Hard Reset: Similar to a soft reset, by performing a hard reset you completely wipe your device and restore it to the position it was in when you first turned the device on after it was purchased or after a new ROM is flashed.
Radio: The radio stack is responsible for the phone functionality of the device. This includes GPRS, GSM, UMTS, and GPS operations as well as camera functionality. The version you use depends on who your carrier is as users have reported versions working better on one carrier than the other. The wiki pages contain the latest versions available to download and install.
ROM: The ROM holds the Operating system and other components such as the bluetooth and wifi stacks. The ROM is accompanied by the Radio, Ext_ROM, SPL and IPL. Carriers such as T-mobile or Vodaphone taylor the ROM to their specifications and version numbers do not carry the same meaning across different carriers. IF the carrier you use supports the device well they will usually release regular ROM updates.
RUU - ROM Upgrade Utility: It’s the s/w used on your PC to do a ROM upgrade for your PPC;
IPL - Initial Program Loader: It’s the bootloader for PPC. It boots up SPL;
SPL - Secondary Program Loader: Loads the actual OS;
WWE: World Wide English Edition;
SSPL: SSPL is a modified bootloader which is loaded into RAM when run, this allows us to overwrite any aspect of the ROM, Radio or Bootloader far easier than using mtty.
I agree
I have noticed a lot of members with only a few posts asking questions and making fundamental mistakes and I usually say "read the wiki and do a search " but I did just that and there are a confusing array of answers.
I wil try to do an idiots guide later and post it here unless someone with more time does it first
Thanks robson/lakeman, that actually helps a lot.
So... We want to put a new SPL on the system, so that the IPL loads the new SPL (HardSPL), which gets around CID locking to allow you to flash the ROM via an RUU?
Also, would like to add that there are two types of rom's.
Rom's for SPL1.2 and rom's for SPL3.5
If it is the first time I would suggest you first, to load SPL1.2 rom's
This way you can go back to original rom's very easy.
Rom's made to SPL3.5 gives more freedom to rom cookers, but once you are on SPL3.5 you cannot go back to original rom's unless you first revert to SPL1.2 first.
The process to revert from SPL1.2 to SPL3.5 and viceversa can be very tricky and can give you a lot of headackes.
You will need to read a lot and be aware of posible problems ( and resolutions ).
Welcome to this wonderfull world
re: spl and upgrading roms
putting aside my previous post, that's probably as far as i can go in terms of the techie stuff =)
my story: i was actually content with my original, untouched u1000 rom. then something happened with my bluetooth (all sounds kept on being streaming even without the bt activated)...that forced me to upgrade to ap3...probably the first rom upgrade that was made available for the u1000. i sorta felt that i had nothing to lose...if the rom upgrade couldn't fix the bt issue...then i'd get a replacement unit...
once i upgraded to ap3...and it was successful...i then tried out the rom upgrade by irus. it was fantastic...most notable was the auto-rotate feature....but apparently i was having some vga issues as i couldn't get 96dpi to work. that's when i installed michy's rom and i've been having a blast since then.
my point: i really can't answer the spl part in your original post...i kinda remember how to find the spl version....but i don't want to end up bricking or damaging your unit. there are others in the athena forum who are best qualified to answer that.....but once you get beyond this, let me know and i'd be happy to help you out in upgrading to michy's rom.
cheers
Robson, cool, your input is much appreciated. I think the first step is to find out my SPL version. I'll hunt around the forums/wiki for that, but if anyone knows off the top of their head, feel free to post.
Press all the way in the camera button and at the same time soft-reset.
Keep until it displays the famous tri-color screen. Loose buttons.
You will see something like this ( in my case ):
ATHE100
IPL-v1.00
ATHE100
SPL-v1.20.Olipro ( because I have already unlocked )
If your unit is virgin you will be SPL-v1.00 if I remember well.
regards,
My Titan is fully Cathulah'd. I was wondering if I should install this higher SPL version on it. What say you?
Bump.

If you plan to revert your phone to stock without any ability to flash custom roms - go ahead.
If you plan to use fully unlocked phone - just forget further touching of SPL part. "Higher" or "lower" - does not matter. We have only stock locked of unlocked custom SPL state.

I know right? But I had to ask since I didn't know. It's still a wonder to me, the new thing my phone has become. Does hard SPL mean that nothing can make alterations to our phones? Like a protection mode if you will.

I bought a Titan already HSPL a while back but I got a 2nd Titan I which is my wife's device and it had not been HSPL until I did it. To make a long story short I undid the HSPL on my device when I used it as a guide to do my wife's device...I was PO'd big time but I successfully HSPL'd her device. It took me four days to re-HSPL my device but I had to go an entirely different path to do it. That's how I know either the Cingular 1.10 or European 1.09 ROMs work; the problems arise in the hardware needed to do this and the newer your Titan is in regards to when it was manufactured the harder it is to HSPL; it's one thing to debrand your device, it's a whole another story HSPL if the internal "flash" drive has been partitioned in such a way that either the drive is slightly corrupted or partitioned in such a way that HSPL is impossible such as the Titan II has been setup which to date is impossible to HSPL. If you're new to this then nothing I'm about to say will make any sense to you, but HSPL allows us to flash our device the way we're accustomed to flashing Windows Mobile/Phone devices for a good long time. In a nut shell if you load an official stock ROM back onto the Titan you're playing with fire. I know owners of these devices that would kill to have their device HSPL and are unable to. You can actually download apps to your device without the Marketplace and make adjustments to the device's settings. It's stunning how locked down carriers and manufacturers make them and why, I do not know. You'd make more money selling the damn thing and buy a stock device if you're hell bent on returning to stock.

Yeah the process took me about four days as well. I used the Cingular and European ROMs. But I guess the European ROM is what worked for me since my phone is now an X310e. But I don't suppose it matters a hill of beans. I'm proud as pie to finally know how to debrand and load custom ROMs.
