I was tired of making shortcuts by manual editing, so I made this editor.
The program requires .NET Compact Framework 1 and it was tested on a HTC Magician with WM 2003SE and HTC Polaris with WM6. It has been reported to work on HTC Wizard with WM 2005. Please, feel free to post your experience with different device and operative systems.
Looks great!
I think Odeean did something similar a while back, but beautiful either way.

I tried it on my wizard - wm5 and the app would start but soon as i made any selection an error would come up. see jpg
Nice idea - would like to see working - i am fed up too of manual creation of shortcuts as i forget the syntax

Lol thanks - its now working. Will post later tonight my findings after testing.
Hi oruam57 for simple shortcuts program works fine.
More complex shortcuts e.g.
''\Program files\omapclock\omapclock.exe'' -clock 240 -launch ''\storage card\program files\TCPMP\player.exe'' -restore
your program when editing same lnk just shows ''\Program files\omapclock\omapclock.exe'' -clock 240 -launch in target path / parameters
the last section is missed out - i guess a bug?
even when i add last section manually it will not save it.
look forward to comments\update

Good. The parameters can be as long as you like (at least in theory), the problem you found was due to a parsing bug, not to a length limit.
Redowload the current version, the icon browser is there (not fast but working).

The caching of browsed icons (no need to reload them every time if the file is the same), some more testing, then I will pack all in a cab. Thanks for your testing.
Just uploaded an update. Should be in 'release candidate' status.
Improvements: .bak file creation, cut/copy/past extended on all text boxes, browsed icon caching.

The backup is created only if you open an existing shortcut and it is saved in the same directory of the original with name <original name>.bak.lnk
Moreover, only the original is kept, that is if you open x.lnk, modify it and save, x.lnk contains the new shortcut and x.bak.lnk the original ones. From then on x.bak.lnk is not overwritten and when you are satisfied with x.lnk you should manually delete x.bak.lnk
Hope I was clear enough, English is not my mother tongue.

I'm on the minimalist side: no feature/code if not really required. I will put something in the readme of the install pack.
By the way, I made the editor because I, as an heavy shortcut user, really miss it and I expected that many people had the same problem. From the small number of download it seems not so.
Maybe MS was right (as usual) in not including one in Windows Mobile.
O man, thank you very much for this lovely product you’ve made.

Hi,
For all of you who doesn't like the gray color or are tired of the same old touch look, I made a new dialer skin. If you have PDVIET 4.0.0.0.6 or you have installed touch style dial pad, all you have to do is to copy these files to your windows and soft reset. I don't have time to make a proper cab file, but feel free to make a cab file out of these and share it with us
oh by the way the dialer skin is only for portrait mode, later on I will make a landscape too.
I also installed the transparent home plug in icons, I uploaded them before, but I'm gonna upload them along my other files.all you have to do is copy all the .png files to your windows folder and soft reset.
I hope you like it
Nice. I've build cabs...
Hello,
is it possible to customize our own landscape and portrait background picture ?

(if so please specify which folder in the /windows)

It is nice , but I found it too bright
it is not easy to see in the sunlight, may be with another text colour will be nicer

its nice, but if im gonna change the background picture im gonna have to change the buttons too, maybe you should remodel the dialer in a way that the background of the numbers is transparent ?

If you look closely at the buttons that i posted , they are transparent (look at the numbers) the thing is that i haven't found a dialer dll that supports transparent images. If you found a dialer that you could simply change the background image, let me know

Photoshop Files
Okay, I promised that I'm gonna make a dialer skin so that everybody can change it just by changing one background image! well i tried and I didn't succeed. but for those of you who know Adobe Photoshop, I attached the psd file so you can use it to make your own dialer. all you have to do is to change the background layer and save your file as a png file. If you don't know Photoshop just don't bother, I really can't explain further. also you have to overwrite the button images with the images in the zip file. If you know Photoshop and you want to make a dialer for yourself, look at my psd file, trust me it will help feel free to share your creative dialer skins with us

Touch and touchlike dialers
Guys, hdialerere is my 2 cents about the touch (and derived) dialers
Positive: nice big buttons
Negative:
1) The photo is awfully small, even smaller than in the standard wm6 dialer
2) 2 buttons are missing: speed dial and history. You have to open these functions with options. not funny
3) There is still some space left on top that can be used.
I hope that someone can make a dialer with these buttons and with a bigger photo. Thx.

Thank you hma4! Excellent work all around. Question: I run linux and have access to GIMP which can do many of the things Photoshop can...is the layer method supported in GIMP as well? I'm wondering if there is a step by step tutorial on the net somewhere and willing to google for it...always willing to learn something new although I am in no way or shape an artist.

GIMP opens psd files and also supports layers. for tutorial for GIMP you can visit here: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
here is what you can do, try to open the .psd file that I uploaded couple of posts above, then if you could see my file in different layers then you can work your way from there. you have to make 3 .png files, namely:
Progress_BkgdP.png
Dialer_BkgdP.png
indialer_ps.png
all you have to do is look at those layers, one of them is the background image, try to change that to what ever you like, another layer is the button masks so you have to overlap that on your background, and finally save the file in .png format with the names that I mentioned.
I really can't write a thorough tutorial for this, I think if you spend a little time you can figure it out all by yourself.
Good luck don't forget to share your creative work with us

It must be a 320x320 file to work in portrait or landscape mode.
If you want a file only compatible portrait make a 240x320 image, and for landscape is 320x240

http://lubbad.com/Vista%20Abstract%20Dialer.cab
Want to make some cabs for dialers? Here is the first one. I extracted the dialer from my touch pro and then cabbed it for ease of installation. You can theme a dialer for your phone. Or change the buttons, and basically whatever you want.
Cab seems to be the only way since I cannot shut down cprog.exe for installation or png and bmp files to the windows directory. The cab does it well and requires a restart to complete. Here are the pics of what you get in the cab.
If you request some other theme I will see what i can do. Or I have attatched my original dialer and you can mess with the templates.
Just hard to put them in windows without a cab.
NICE work!!
Very nice, you don't happen to have the original PSD or XCF files you could share as well? I'd like to try some different backgrounds.
Nice job! Thanks for kicking this off! I have only seen one other dialer so in the PPC Kitchen.
I have a request i would like for this to be the background of the dialer.

Not sure if this is what you wanted
No, I was referring to the PhotoShop or Gimp files you used which just show the dialer buttons, frames, text, etc.. which would allow me to plug in my own background.
Not quite sure what those files are in the ZIP, Sprite Backup is what came up when I searched.
zip
the zip file in post one has the original frames and backgrounds
Ohh, so what you did was take the image, overlay it on top of the original and make it opaque/transparent?

Correct. Then you have to cab it to windows file, But be sure to retain the original format of .bmp or .png

I got it working, I just have to edit it to look a little better now, but you don't extract the skins. their just in a folder on the sd card in Beautiful widgets/skins/scskins, but They are compiled like png 9's but you don't have to run them through eclipse like you would for framework. I got it working by using draw9patch and then changinging it from a png9 to a png. then I rebooted and it showed up. just needs a touch up.

I did replace them with png 9's but I just changed the 9 to just png like in the folder, bc I don't see the ext 9.png. But anyway, here is what I got, but you can barely see the blue border I made, because of the stretching, and I don't like the numbers or how close the number background is..

super clock theme
my first watcha think?
That's good stuff. I actually couldn't get it the way I wanted it on beautiful widgets, bc I hate how close the number backgrounds are when compared to real sense clock, so I made one for Fancy widgets. Here's mine. Original is on the left and mine is on the right.
