you wouldnt brink your phone just have the unlocker and why would u want to do that for
you know how Bell is and unless you want a $1,000 000 phone bill then go on ahead! it wouldn't brick your phone, it would just put it into roaming mode since you'll be using sprint's prl and data connection
Really
Actually only reason i was considering doing that is because i'm having data connection problems and just wanted to go back to stock...But since it's like virtually impossible to find a bell stock rom i thought i'd try the sprint and make a few adjustments!

Hi guys, I am about to receive a "new" refurb AT&T GSII to use on my T-mobile account. I have not yet received it, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, I just want to be ready for when I get it.
Will I be able to root the phone straight out of the box? I know I need to run the unlocker from the market, but need to root first. Is the phone "locked" like iPhones are out of the box? Thanks!
And also, can I ask what the number 1 recommended ROM is for this phone? I read CM7 has some issues, but are there any CM7 based ROMs that everyone loves?
No, I believe the phone works just fine without a simcard. You should be able to start up odin, flash CWM, and flash a rooted rom all without an active sim card. You can also setup the phone by connecting it to a WiFi network. Once unlocked it will work with your T-Mobile sim.
I don't think the att sgs2 has the radio to work on t-mobile's 3g bands. You'll be limited to edge speeds. If you are ok with that, you should be all set.

Yea, I have no data plan so I'm all good with the incompatible radio. Plus the screen/phone size on the I777 is perfect for me, while the Tmobile one is slightly too big.
I guess I will just follow the guides to root it. Now to pick the best kernel and ROM...
Hello guys just wanted to know how to debrand the note from bell as it is running a little slugishh and i also want to remove all the bell apps without rooting thanks for the help...
What do you mean Debrand it? It litterally has no branding. You're talking about changing the firmware?
It does have branding likeee all the bell apps and stuff all the extra stuff...
Sent from my SGH-I717M using XDA
Just the word that you used is odd, because branding literally means to "mark" something, or it means a certain type. So automatically when I read the title I was thinking you wanted to remove a carrier logo branded on the phone which it clearly doesn't have.
Anyhow, I digress.
To remove all that just root, get Titanium backup and remove all pre-loaded apps you don't want. This topic has already been discussed and you shouldn't have trouble finding out how to remove those apps.
Check the development section and you'll find more information there.

Like i said i dont want to root...is there a way to straight flash a official galaxy note update which isnt from a carrier?

There hasnt been any update yet. We are all patiently awaiting ICS. (Which will come from our carriers.) The only way I can see you getting rid of the bell bloatware is to either Root the phone and freeze those apps with TiBu. Or Flash a Rom which still requires rooting. Dude if you want them gone you're gonna need to root. However I could be wrong there may be a flashable Odin files that get rid of all the bloatware. Im not sure. Go look in development. I just don't know how to tell you any other way. Also don't know if you know this but the International Version is not tied to any Carrier, You can look into that if you're not happy with the Bell one. I also forgot to mention, I have one on Rogers and Bell. The Rogers one seems to be slightly faster. But I only have 2 to compare so I dunno. Maybe you can always sitch carrier if your contract is new.

I know you do not want to root my man but I will pay you $30 right now to upload the Bell stock system and then you can go right back to the unrooted version. I am desperate!! No Wi-fi hotspot, no NFC, S Planner, AT&T sucks!!
Yea waiting for ics is unpredictable now...
And like u said rogers note is faster thats why i want to debrand it i used my friends rogers note n there is a good differencee i got this from bell but got it unlocked cause i am with rogers so even if i can Get rogers firmware that would be fine too just need to find a wayy...

Rooting is your only way afaik with Bell and Rogers. My Telus Note came with ZERO Telus bloatware and I mean ZERO unless I missed something. Luckily, in Canada, Telus, Rogers and Bell did not put their name on the Note like how AT&T removed the Samsung name and used AT&T up on top of the phone. Also WIFI Hotspot (tethering) option is there and not removed. I use tethering all the time to tether to my tablet and several of my Sony Vaios. Lastly, NFC is there and is working.
I just purchased a rooted note from ebay. It's had the radio flashed to use tmobile 4g and so far not too bad. I want to upgrade to ics and try some different roms but i'm afraid to lose the root, unlock, and radio for tmobile. Can I upgrade to ics or even test out different roms without worry?
Im not sure since i dont use tmo...but i read a thread the other day where someone commented and said "if your not 100% sure...do nothing" follow this rule of thumb especially when dealing with non carrier situations.

You will not loose root or unlock. However you may loose the T-Mobile radio but that is no big deal just redownload it and flash it on top of the new rom. Make sure you do tuns of resurch on the rom you want and how to flash to ensure you don't brick your device. Knowledge is power and we all had to start somewhere don't be afraid to customize your device just be smart about it.

I have a UK unlocked HTC titan, I get horrible reception in my house and AT&T has given me a 3g Microcell to fix it, well the Microcell has its own problems, but regardless they say that my phone wont work with the Microcell anyways because its only getting E (edge) so they convinced me to get a new phone (Nokia Lumia 900) which i did like, but ultimatly took back because I love my titan so much, they no longer offer the titan 1 and would only give it to me for $199 through their site (which is BS because the titan 2 is $199) I know i should just et the titan 2 but i dislike the curved glass, I like the look and feel of my Titan 1, I would have already dropped AT&T and went to verizon but they have no WP7 phonesand I want to keep my titan...
So I'm asking:
Is there a Rom that I could flash to my titan (Its an Unlocked UK version (British lady voice and all) and AppHub Unlocked) that would set it to the AT&T rom and possibley get better signal as well as 3G capabilities?
I would like to flashmy rom and use the one from AT&T to recieve 3G and use the Microcell as well as overall better coverage.
Im somewhat of a noob to the flashing and dont know if thats how it works or what... Can someone please help?
Thanks.

What a situation you got yourself into I reckon there will be plenty out there who would like to swap their att branded htc titan to your european unlocked titan Anyway back to your question..., yes you can flash your phone with stock cingular (att) rom but it is not a straight forward flashing. You will need to use "goldcard method" to flash a stock cingular (att) rom to your phone. I advise you to read this related threads on goldcard method:
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24809318#post24809318
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371073&highlight=goldcard+spl+downgrade+method
You need to download the Cingular (A&T) rom 1.10 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334468
You just need to rename the nbh file into ETERIMG.nbh to use in your goldcard.
In summary, to flash stock AT&T rom you need to use the goldcard method to flash the Cingular ROM 1.10 to your european unlocked htc titan.
Hope this help.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the response! Now im faced with 2 options ... sell/trade the phone (I LOVE THE TITAN!) or Get the materials and try out the Rom to see if it fixes my problem. I guess we'll see.
SO YOU ARE TELLING ME THEORETICALLY FLASHING THE STOCK AT&T TITAN ROM TO MY UNLOCKED VERSION WILL FIX THE NO 3G PROBLEM? IS THERE ANY DRAWBACKS OR ANYTHING WITH THIS FLASH, DO I NEED TO MESS WITH THE RADIO? ANY AND ALL INFORMATION IS DEF APPRECIATED!
IF IM GONNA DO THIS, I WANNA KNOW WHAT IM IN FOR AND WHAT IM GONNA GET, AT THIS POINT AT&T GAVE M A MICROCELL TO FIX MY SERVICE PROBLEM (BUT NO 3G ON MY TITAN) AND THEY ALSO GAVE ME AN EARLY UPGRADE OPTION, AND WITH ALREADY HAVING THE NOKIA LUMIA 900 AND HAVING IT FAIL IN COMPARISON TO THE TITAN, SCREEN SIZE WISE (OTHERWISE BEATIFUL PHONE), AND THE TITAN TWO UGLY WITH THE CURVED GLASS AND BUBBLE BACK, LOOKS LIKE IM GONNA HAVE TO TRY ANDROID AGAIN (UGLY UI, BUT MORE APPS)
Thanks again.
There is no guarantee here unfortunately:] and the gold card method is a hit and miss process to say the least. You probably know that by now, as there are few threads running on this forum about this topic. The stock Cingular rom 1.10 has its own bugs (lots of them) you can find more about this by reading opening threads in the general section (Q&A). Your choice Goodluck.

When you are all talking about APN sims, are you talking about manipulating a phone that works for 1 carrier to also work with another carrier? If so, does it become a phone which works with both carriers?
I work in an area along the shore of Lake Michigan; for some reason Verizon has never had good coverage when close to the shore (I have experienced this problem for years, and from widely distant areas). However, some of my coworkers get good Internet using ATT, or Sprint; if there is a way for me to take advantage of this, then I want to!
Thank you.

Yes, the Note2 can be used with ATT, Tmo, etc.

There was a thread in here somewhere about someone who flashed an AT&T rom and had it working perfectly. Can't remember where it was, but that would be your best bet.

Thanks for the replies.
So; does flashing an ATT rom mean my phone will no longer work on Verizon?
Also; if I were to flash a rom allowing ATT compatability, does that mean I would have to return my phone to stock, and flash an ATT-specific custom rom? As it is, I'm on Beans 17, and love it.

No returning to stock for anything unless your trying to recover a soft brick. Everyone in this damn forum is so hung up on returning to stock for this or that. Once your rooted and have a custom recovery installed thats it your done. Forever........... If u want to flash a different rom wipe in recovery and flash away...... Thats all there is to android. Well from a user standpoint anyways.

If you're on a Verizon phone you should stick with a Verizon based rom or intentional based rom made for Verizon. To CORRECTLY use another carrier's rom on your phone, you need to change APNs, csc files, lib files, framework files/code and probably some other files depending on the rom. Your best bet is to use a rom like Scott's ACE Cleanrom. When you flash it aroma allows you to choose other carriers. You can flash it once, choose at&t, set it up and make a nandroid. Then wipe everything and do the same for Verizon. Then all you would have to do is flash between the two nandroids.
@Mao04 & RomsWell,
Thank you both for your responses, you've both eased my mind and saved me a lot of trouble...
... I've decided '**** it!'. I really don't like talking on the phone anyway (or texting), and I can handle 8 hour workshifts without indulging in my addiction for news.
Besides, I'm loving Beans 17.
Thanks again.
