Hello guys just wanted to know how to debrand the note from bell as it is running a little slugishh and i also want to remove all the bell apps without rooting thanks for the help...
What do you mean Debrand it? It litterally has no branding. You're talking about changing the firmware?
It does have branding likeee all the bell apps and stuff all the extra stuff...

Just the word that you used is odd, because branding literally means to "mark" something, or it means a certain type. So automatically when I read the title I was thinking you wanted to remove a carrier logo branded on the phone which it clearly doesn't have.
Anyhow, I digress.
To remove all that just root, get Titanium backup and remove all pre-loaded apps you don't want. This topic has already been discussed and you shouldn't have trouble finding out how to remove those apps.
Check the development section and you'll find more information there.

Like i said i dont want to root...is there a way to straight flash a official galaxy note update which isnt from a carrier?

There hasnt been any update yet. We are all patiently awaiting ICS. (Which will come from our carriers.) The only way I can see you getting rid of the bell bloatware is to either Root the phone and freeze those apps with TiBu. Or Flash a Rom which still requires rooting. Dude if you want them gone you're gonna need to root. However I could be wrong there may be a flashable Odin files that get rid of all the bloatware. Im not sure. Go look in development. I just don't know how to tell you any other way. Also don't know if you know this but the International Version is not tied to any Carrier, You can look into that if you're not happy with the Bell one. I also forgot to mention, I have one on Rogers and Bell. The Rogers one seems to be slightly faster. But I only have 2 to compare so I dunno. Maybe you can always sitch carrier if your contract is new.

I know you do not want to root my man but I will pay you $30 right now to upload the Bell stock system and then you can go right back to the unrooted version. I am desperate!! No Wi-fi hotspot, no NFC, S Planner, AT&T sucks!!
Yea waiting for ics is unpredictable now...
And like u said rogers note is faster thats why i want to debrand it i used my friends rogers note n there is a good differencee i got this from bell but got it unlocked cause i am with rogers so even if i can Get rogers firmware that would be fine too just need to find a wayy...

Rooting is your only way afaik with Bell and Rogers. My Telus Note came with ZERO Telus bloatware and I mean ZERO unless I missed something. Luckily, in Canada, Telus, Rogers and Bell did not put their name on the Note like how AT&T removed the Samsung name and used AT&T up on top of the phone. Also WIFI Hotspot (tethering) option is there and not removed. I use tethering all the time to tether to my tablet and several of my Sony Vaios. Lastly, NFC is there and is working.

Nope, Bell has not released the Atrix's SBF and we were not as lucky as our US counterpart to get the SBF leaked out to us.
Here it is but its really slow right now wait a couple days for it to be mirrored

Note this is Aussie Firmware. It does work on bell devices but you can't root it yet and therefore can't easily get back to your bell rom if you need to.

who cares.. you can't get back to your bell rom anyways no matter what.. so its a very good option to those who softbricked their bell phones since the chance of us (bell users) getting an SBF is almost impossible.
Bell sbf firmware
I have an idea, in the Atrix, under settings, About Phone, system updates you can request an update but it checks the version number then reports back, Your device is up to date. Is it possible to modify the version number so that it would re download the SBF, just an idea.

true its good for those who have soft bricked, but for those thinking this is some kind of update to flash will be stuck on that until root pr a real sbf comes out for bell.
to be honest there is no reason not to upgrade to this new SBF..
HSPA is unlocked and it is faster.
I seriously seriously doubt we will see a formal Bell HSPA unlocked SBF soon, if not EVER...
Bell is terrible about holding back updates, its not Motorola's fault but more over the carrier.
Can I flash this via clock work mod... If not is there any way to do it via adb on mac?

I hear you there in fact I just joined you in doing the switch. Just making notes for those who think this is a bell sbf that may want to go back. Good to warn them that right now you can't. (hey some people like the bloatware, or miss the customizations they had with a rooted bell rom)

I don't believe so. Isn't there a way to flash on macs?
Are you guys noticing better browsing or anything? I mean..if hspa is enabled what are the everyday advantages? Does this make up for losing root and alot of the added benefits from it?
I'd like to think that there are people working on a root script for this one already..not sure if im willing to jump over just yet and lose root..
Just a curious question, does it have any telstra bloatware? they are acutally pretty annoying when somehow incorperating Foxtel (australian pay TV) into their high end android phones so I was wondering if this will come with the crap like that aswell..

My understanding is that with the locked bootloader the bloat is necessary in order to receive system updates. So its a question of what bloat you like. I personally just freeze it for now but with new sbfs coming out we will be able to re-flash or restore via cwm if or when an update comes out. So in short, yes, this has the telstra bloat but its comparable to what we have with bell bloat and the same method of freezing should work once root is confirmed.

Gotta figure out how to use this multi quote option....
Overall it feels a bit smoother, but (even blur had a tiny bit less lag) but that could be placebo.
browsing seems to be ok haven't pushed it. no H+ logo if you guys care. it goes from 3G to H which makes more sense in my books, were connecting to the same network just the hardware can support the faster speed.
I think the big advantage for the upload speed if you do any video calls on 3g etc.

The reason it goes from 3G to H and not H+ is because telstra doesn't advertise it as HSDPA+ but instead calls it nextG and shows it as has

I am in possession of both bell atrix and ATT atrix. I have to sell one and keep one but I cannot decide which one?
I like to have root access and play with roms. I have a lapdock as well.
what is your suggestion? which one should I keep?
You might be most qualified to answer this question since you have both phones. Maybe run quadrant on each.? Maybe Linpack too? And definately a speed test. You kind of have me wondering now if there is a substancial difference between the two phones. From reading around the forum it does appear the att version is recieving more attention.
Initially I would've said AT&T hands down..but now i'm not so sure. Since Seven's been able to get the Bell Atrix so that we can install At&T pseudo roms and themes..with the Bell atrix you're going to be more open to updates (from international carriers)..and thus more opportunity for potential updates.
Any bootloader bypass will most likely come from the At&t version however..so it makes it a tough call (although i'm sure once it's bypassed on AT&t's version..it won't be too long before it's applicable to the Bell/International versions)
as of now, I would stick with the AT&T version
I know that the bell atrix doesn't have sideloading disabled. i heard that this was an issue with the att one. Also, I'm not sure about the hsdpa+ speeds being blocked, I would check into that.
As suggested I ran Quadrant on both phones. some background about the phones:
1. ATT
original image, no mods, no theme, unlocked rooted, my primary phone
score 2652
2. BELL
modded phone using bell_deodex_v8, unlocked rooted
score 2803
I feel that the mod on BELL phone and/or ATT having more apps on it has to do with the difference in score.
---------------------------------------------
As for side rolling it is possible to open it on ATT if you have root.

Ohh yeah most Roms add that feature to your device with my setup I have sideloading enabled. Im not familiar with bell so I can't have say on your OP but hope this helps some

Not to be cynical, but why do you have both and what carrier are you on? And what country? The AT&T seems to get most of the attention here, as well as Motorola's updates tend to arrive in the USA first, but it mostly depends on your preference.
I heard that firmware updates come from the carriers. I have an unlocked rogers Galaxy note. However, im using a telus sim.
will i get the ICS?
Thanks for any help
Flip a coin and let us know how it comes up.
It isn't even out for the International version of the Note. That will come first. Then each carrier has to customize it. That will take some time. Holding your breath is not recommended.
Uh go ask Telus. Only good way to find out. Or even better call, cause store representatives are sometimes incorrect.

If you keep it stock, I am sure when Rogers ICS drops, you can download and flash the official update.
If you are rooted, chances are, you will get it sooner.
tried Cellunlock.net and they were unable to get the unlock code saying it was not in the Rogers Database, Called Rogers and even they said the IMEI was not in their system.
Phone is from Rogers, want to unlock it to use on Virgin Mobile Canada, but unable to do it.
any ideas on where I can go from here to get this phone to work on my Carrier.
anything I can do via Root?
hmm the phone is not in their database? that sounds super odd, are you sure the phone is rogers? like sure? does it have the rogers crappy bloatware installed? I suppose you dont really know if the phone is rogers unless you actually bought it from them. (ie someone could have just installed rogers rom on it if you bought it off someone)
Ive unlocked s iii's from like every major carrier (telus, bell , rogers) never had a problem. You might want to try getting the code off someone on ebay too.
edit- also as far as my knowledge there is no root free unlock like there was on the s i and sii phones. so you are stuck with the code (for now anyway)
good luck
It was for sure a rogers phone. Ended up going to a different site and they unlocked the phone for me.
thanks for your help
Hello All!
I bought a Galaxy Note I717 from Kijiji this week and was wondering about something.
When I take the battery out of the phone, the sticker says: SGH-I717M (that's Bell Canada hardware)
But when I turn on the phone, the first image that appears shows: SGH-I717R (that's Rogers software)
I have rooted, and tried several ROMs so far and I still get the initial screen showing up as SGH-I717R.
So my question is, how do I get rid of that initial screen or change it to another carrier, such as Bell?
Thanks!

Does it actually bother you?
I can live with it. I was curious to find out if someone knew of a fix for it.
Thanks
I see I wouldn't worry about it. Load up a Paranoid ROM on it and enjoy your phone. You'll hardly reboot ur phone anyways.
If you install non rooted stock bell firmware with bell kernel and modem, it will change your boot screen to I717M.
Well, Your forum heading asks about hardware screen replacement compatibility, lil confusion there.

The only way to change back is by flashing an Odin firmware of bell you can get them on Sammobile.com

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a question that is (somewhat) relevant. My Note is the SGH-I717R, for Rogers. Am I allowed to flash At&T Note ROMs for my device? In other words, does the "R" make a difference? Thanks in advance.
