iguidance 3.01 keeps quiting on 7501 - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Greetings everyone,
May I ask you for help with my newly purchased 7501. I installed iGuidance 3.01 to navigate with the internal GPS. However every time the iGuidance user interface goes "full screen" the program will just quit. The same program works just fine on my Axim X51v running WM5. I can't think of any reason for this. The software can fix to satellites just fine. It will just quit when going into "full screen", which drives me crazy. Could anyone help me please? Thanks a lot!!!

known bug
hi,
Sorry to tell you this, but this is a known bug with iguidance 3.01. There is NO PATCH to fix this. You have to buy ver 4.0 to to get the "fix" for this problem.
Alternately, you can go back to ver 3.0, but that causes some problems with gprs. I've gone through all this crap myself, and these are the only options.

Only a soft reset seems to bring them back :!:
Cheers

upps, seems like I am not the only one having that problems

Never had any problem with my xda.....
Running Tomtom version 2.24 on my own cooked German ROM 4.00.33 .

There is no need to downgrade to 2002.
Just upgrade to TomTom 2.04 and GPS 2.08, format your SD Card and re-install the maps. Try to start without any additional POI files.
This should fix your problem.
After this, the TT 2 was running fine on my MDA with the 4.0.33 german ROM.

My Dad has just got an XDA aswell, he's running the same rom as me (4.01.00 no extra cooked bits) and 2.24 with GPS 2.08 does the same on his.

I have the same problem on my MDA II, even after the ROM 1.60 upgrade: sometimes radio buttons and/or checkboxes just disappear. I don't think this is specific to TomTom, as I saw the same thing happen also while running other programs. It is also not reproducable, most of the time TomTom just works fine.
Doesn't bother me much though, as a soft reset is a matter of seconds.

I found that tomtom 2.05 and gps 2.09 is the best marriage. Tomtom 2.24 does have some bugs such as after planning a journey it takes ages to go to the navigator map.

Is that with WM2003 ?
Tomtom's site states 2.24 adds PocketPC 2003 support but to be honest is didn't even try tomtom 2.05 i just upgraded it straight away.

Just put GPS 2.09 on and its nice to have the bar on the Today screen to launch tomtom, we'll have to wait and see if the problem with disappearing buttons still occurs, but it's been OK so far

I did not persevere with WM2003, it seemed to be very flaky on my XDA, I am sticking with XDA dev rom 1.2.
Swifty,
Many thanks. This has really got rid of alot of the bugs.
Does anyone know a url of a UK map update. The packaged map doesnt know alot of roads built over 18 months ago
Ashby
i followed all the examples bu i still had the missing radio buttons.
i tried every combo of updates and GPS versions. so i have kept the lastest versions.
however i have found a way to stop it occuring. it seems that the radio buttons only disappear after you launch the GPS software. i have avoided launching it and have used tomtom for a while now and the radio buttons have remained there.
Ashby, I dont thin tomtom do map updates as such, they release the new maps when the next version is released.
Yes, I kind of figured that. They hint on their website that map updates will be available when there data supplier gives them new data, but I suspect that they never will release an update and force you to by Navigator 3.
Bad show really.
A cool feature would be map editior, that way users can add new roads/ modify road layouts etc
Ashby
I purchased the Navigator USA version about 8 months ago and just last month TomTom sent me an email stating that map updates would be available soon. I followed a URL in the email and signed up for the updates and within a week I has seven new cd's that contained all the updated maps.
I don't have any complaints.
It must just be the UK!
never had a prob with tomtom v2.24 on v4.00.11 on v4.01.00 it took bluddy ages to load up and it hanged loads. but now that im on vA.30.07 it is a hell of a lot faster then v4.00.11 and seems alot better
Radio Buttons
Another confirmation on the radio buttons problem with TomTom. The problem is still there even with the latest version (2.24 & GPS 2.19).
But, I have been able to trace the bug down a bit. Can't prove it, but maybe others can confirm:
It seems the problem is related to the GPS-S/W. Whenever I change anythin on the configuration there, I lose the radio buttons until I do a soft reset. SPecifically when you change the COM-port, you lose the buttons.
We've been doing some GPS/NMEA S/W development around the serial ports ourselves. WM2003 has some ugly bugs in this area, such as hanging when you try to open a port that isn't configured or active).
But, as Microsoft points out: Its not a bug, its a feature (verify that the soft reset button still works)!! ;-)

Comm Manager wifi problems

Hi all.
I'm currently running PDAViet 4.0.0.0.4 PV but have noticed also on some other roms that after a bit of use, wifi will not turn on any more. Tapping it in comm manager results in my prophet thinking for a bit, then giving up and failing to turn wifi on. I have no programs running, so I assume its not a memory problem.
Is there a "more stable" version of comm manager that always works, but that may not be as up to date as other versions found in newer roms, and if so, where can I find a copy? If not, does anyone know what my problem might be?
I'm running base 4.0.0.0.4 PV rom with SPBDiary, audio manager today plugin, slide2unlock, and the new contacts app by tene added to it. Nothing is listed in the currently running software list while trying to get wifi working.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks all.
I should also mention that a warm boot fixes the problem temporarily.
Cheers guys.

Bluetooth / IS issue

I have flashed quite a few Kitchens now, and a problem occasionally crops up where Internet Sharing doesn't work properly if Bluetooth is powered on.
This problem has reappeared in the latest no2chem 5060 Kitchen that I installed last Friday.
Does anyone know what Registry settings I need to make to fix this problem (for now and in the future)? I know there is a fix out there somewhere, since the problem does get removed in some Kitchens.
Thank you!

HTC S740 freezes when GPS activated

Each time that a program activates the GPS in my S740 everything seems fine, but after 1 or 2 minutes the phone freezes and I have to switch everything off.
It does it with every program I tried, namely google maps, quickgps, nonigpsplot, sportypal (can't try whereis because I am missing some .net updates).
I tried to deabilitate just about every option I could think of (power saving, other running programs etc) but I can't get rid of the problem.
Does anybody have any idea of what it could be?
Thanks a lot,
Luca
PS: the phone came with Swisscom installation
I have the same problem.
The first time it happened, I had to to a hard reset (even without activating the GPS it would crash after a couple of minutes).
The second time (last week) it was exactly like you describe. Everything is fine until you run a GPS program, which causes the phone to freeze after a couple of minutes.
Unfortunately, I have no solution (yet). I reverted to a BT GPS to avoid the internal unit. Yesterday I managed to use Route66 for about half an hour on the internal unit. I still have to check if it was magiacally fixed, or whether this was a lucky shot.
One question for you: On both occasions, I used the GPSed-application (www.gpsed.com) extensively before the crash. Do you have that program installed by any chance? This might give a clue.

No, I don't have that application.
The phone is less than a week old and came with googlemaps and quickgps.
The only other programs I installed are nonigpsplot, sportypal and whereis (which doesn't work, I think I should update the .net).
I installed them after realizing that the gps didn't work because I thought it could be software error.
So far HTC has recommended an hard reset or to replace the phone as dead on arrival. They say that it is not a known issue.
Just to be precise, the gps gets a fix and everything is fine.. but it only lasts for one to two minutes.
Luca
PS: I sent an email to htc tech support and they replied within minutes, really pleased by their efficiency.
i have the same problem with garmin navigation, sometime.
So, if I understood properly, the Google Maps that were installed when you got the phone was not working?
First of all try a hard reset. I think it could fix it. If not, maybe change the ROM?!
A hard reset seems to have solved the problem, but there are still a couple of things that I want to try.
At this stage I am not sure whether I should change the phone (it's new) or not, I must say.
Thanks!
Luca

The gps sometimes does not get a fix. Switching the phone off and on repeatedly seems to solve the problem, but I am not sure of the details yet (didn't have time to test properly).
My feeling is that there is something not quite right, but I've never had a phone-gps so maybe they are just less powerful than normal gps-units and the somehow erratic behaviour is to be expected.
If/when I find a final solution I'll post it.
Thanks,
Luca
Switching the phone on and off repeatedly is not a sollution, imo. I haven't used the GPS too often - in fact only 3 or 4 times, when I was travelling - yet every time I used it, it was on for 1-2 hours. And it worked perfectly. So, the fact the it freezes has nothing to do with the fact that it's "phone-gps".
Hi,
had the same problems a few days ago. Freezing by Using GPS-Apps like run.gps or mcguider. After a hard reset it works fine again.
Have no idea what's the problem behind this.
Lutz
mine also the same. after few hard reset. the gps become like god-mode..
within 1 min.. lock on.. but the device gets abit hot. mine is only 1wk old. i send it back for a exchange. i did request for chaning it to snap. but they say top up is reqired.
i am also using snap now. its a gd phone..
i had this problem too, with mcguider.
The solution for me was the qiuckgps app on my s740. Mcguider works only when the quickgps app is running in the background. When quickgps is not running ill become a freeze in all gps apps.
with quickgps it works very good over many hours!
Same problem
I experience the same problems. I bought the phone second hand, and with both Google Maps and McGuider the phone freezes completely after 1-2 minutes.
What I tried:
- hard reset
- run QuickGPS in the background
Does not work for me Does returning help?
My version: 1.14.404.0, 25/10/2008
It seems to be a rather common problem.
It might be good if everybody sent an email to HTC about the issue, maybe they can do something (patch).
In the end a hard reset was enough for me to solve the problem, no phone exchange, but it's not an ideal situation.
BTW: quickgps (or any other program) had no impact on my issue. It was not a matter of getting a gps fix, which is easier if you start quickgps beforehand.
Bye,
Luca

Possible solution
Hi
I had same problem. If any application try to connect to GPS, phone freezes after few seconds.
After Hard Reset it was OK, but only until I use QuickGPS. Then it again freeze whole mobile after use GPS application.
My temporary solution:
1.
Erase QuickGPS data. It was in Temp\xtra.bin and Windows\xtra.bin
Erase those 2 files.
2.
Soft Reset phone.
Don't use QuickGPS. Wait 3-5 minutes for GPS fix.
I was wondering what is wrong with xtra.bin. It is downloaded from web server xtra1.gpsonextra.net or simmilar.
At 24-25.10.09 there was time change from summer time [CEST (GMT+2) to CET (GMT+1) in my country]. Maybe it is some dependance between change of time and GPS problem.
Same problem is descripted in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577898
Thanks, I just made another hard reset. And put everything I try!

GPS Dead

Hi Guys just wondering if this is common problem for the S740 ?
I was using my phone today with Mcguider I saw some bars pop up trying to get lock then since that it says hardware error and freezes the phone if I attempt to go into mcguider and the same occurs when I try google mpas with GPS.
Just wondering if this is a freak hardware failure or common fault so time to get a different model like HTC HD2.
thanks in advance.
Hy!
No its not an common problem......the GPS from Rose works still great for me...i´m using Sygic and Google Maps and all works perfect.....I think you should try to Reset your Phone....maybe an Software-Problem....or if you have to much money buy a new Phone... ;-)
I had problems like this in the past.
Had the same error this weekend and I think it has something to do with the QuickGPS data. I deleted the xtra.bin in the \Windows folder rebooted (did not redownload quickGPS data) and waited for a regular fix and it didn't hang on using GPS after that.
When I had this error in the past (2-3 times a year) it just worked again after a while without me doing anything. Thats why i suspect the QuickGPS data as it times out after 7 days.
I have the same issue,
Whenever trying to use a gps program the phone locks up. I tried reflashing the WM6.5 rom again but still no luck. But i'll try this quickgps thing.
Anyone know where I can find the gps settings? (it's com4 ?)
Thanks.
after removing the quickgps it no longer locks up the phone.
Thanks!
Garmin XT & Google Maps & Bing all work with the gps now!

Thanks I did reset the phone and now it works once again so I guess it is a common issue.
Nope I don't have too much money I just want a phone that works perfectly for all my gadget needs and up until this point it has been perfect shame they are not making a new model it appears that the candybar phone is getting less and less popular
I am having the same problem, i tried installing Sygic mobilemaps 10 and when i come to the language selection screens the phone wont respond to anything, it will launch the gps quickfix application in the back so i think it has something to do with that. resetting the phone does nothing. problem remains when i install sygic again. Anyone an idea ?
Hy!
Okay i don´t know about QuickGPS....i make the Update via Wlan manual and its disabled to download automatic when Navi runs and i had never probs with Navi on this phone...for me its the best phone i ever had...
...and it sucks that HTC doesn´t make a new Version of this phone....
to Renever:
Sygic MobileMaps10 works with Rose? Look here...
true its an great phone..... i will try old mcguider 2009 on it again.
I use the 2009 Version and it works Great for me on Frauhottelmanns 6.5er V1.00 there is no need to Upgrade to sygic v10...... "Never touch a running System"....;-)
well i received a message that my trial has expired on mcguider 2009 .... so thats why i figured lets try the new version....
