there's a checksum on the EEPROM we need to figure out... if you have a friend, or someone willing to dump their EEPROM for you to recover it, then we can do something, but your phone will take on their MAC Address (not that it'll matter unless you two cross paths on the same network)

Anyone willing to dump their EEPROM and help out a few poor wifi-less souls?
If we don't find how to calculate the checksum in a few days I will provide mine, don't worry.
Pls tell me the procedure..I will try to dump and post..

I think a lot of people have, or may have this problem, think this thread should be a sticky?
I posted about this problem when the 1st xda live and vanilla came out! But at the time there were no solution offered. Good to see that this problem is now being addressed! Thanx to all those who's working to solve this issue!
Any progress yet? Im in no rush, I just signed up for an unlimited data plan with Cing... err AT&T so I can wait.
I'm anxiously waiting also....
Is this problem present in all of the WM6 Roms?
no, it has nothing to do with wm6. some people erase the area in nand where the wlan EEPROM is stored, we don't know what causes it, but we have found where it is and we know how to fix it.
We're working on providing an "easy" way to do it, and if possible the ability to choose your own mac address (we still don't know how to calculate the checksum), that's why we haven't published any tool yet... if you have this problem, just be patient

Pof, how about a Backup/Restore app - so those of us who haven't (yet) fubar'ed our wlan can save the relevant info against that day...
Richard
Olipro and Pof,
I've used ur tools and and procedures from the get go. You two never cease to amaze me.
Okay -- any thing you need as far as dumping, let me know. I'm guessing this is a "safe" procedure?
I have two noobs that have these devices (both are 8525, with Custel's 1.3, olipro's hardspl, and 1.40 radio) -- if there's an easy way to get it, I'll have them dump, AND send you mine, which is an unbraded TyTN.
Do you think we can unlock a t-mobile ameo with this tread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=240784
If it doesn't work can you explain me why. And do you think we can modified this method to unlock the Ameo? If yes how? Thanks
Well, it looks like nobody has tried it on Ameo yet....
I have TMob anyway, so I certainly will not be the first to test it
Hello, do you think I can brick my Ameo if I try this method? Thanks
I am not aware of Brickage from this, but a few people reported odd radio problems or strange sim problems when it didnt work.
The biggest problem would be locking the phone completely from all sims!
I guess its a gamble somebody will have to take, but I dont expect it to work.
HTC have done some major work since the older handsets this was written for.
So do you think I can try this or not? thanks

Are you looking for someone to blame if it breaks your Athena?
If you can afford to buy another unit if you brick yours, then the answer is yes, go ahead and try it.
As Pantaloonie says, Its up to you.
I can say this, I will NOT try it on my Ameo.
Many HTC phones have been bricked during the development of roms and tools on this site, a lot of them have then been recovered by later tools developed to save the early testers from bricked devices while others stayed as hardware donors.
We all owe these pioneers a lot, without people willing to take the jump/plunge/leap whatever we wouldnt have half this stuff.
That doesnt mean you have to be one of them though.
edit.... maybe i should try stuff before i post. i dont need to get band.
sorry
I'm running 1.7.0 so let me re-flash. I just downloaded it and am willing to try. let you know tonight!
The older version did not work at all because the mogul lacks a working direct3d driver, and that seems to be what this program uses to render the maps. Considering this problem affected a large number of HTC devices, hopefully the fixed the problem by using another display method.. Will try...
*edit*
Yes! From the author's website:
-Add Qualcomm CPU device support
-More stable by using new 3D engin which do not need Microsoft direct3d mobile support
-Fix the start GPS bug in some device
Have not tried yet but it looks like it will work.
I keep getting a critical error while trying to start the GPS... wants me to install a .net 3 cab to get the message...
Well the software does work on the mogul now...
Lets take this and throw it into the box with opera 9.405. We will label this box "SOFTWARE MOGUL USERS CANNOT ENJOY BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH RAM".
This program will gradually suck every drop of RAM then crash within two to three minutes of just browsing the map.
Working fine for me. Using the new stock rom. Very fast.
Thanks
It did load pretty fast with the new offical Sprint Rom for me.
Hmmm... Whats with the crack. This looks like warez....
Well...with 3.27 radio and 6.1 wm the program runs...locks onto GPS and crashes the program after a couple of zooms with OutOfMemoryException for me.
This looks like a cracked version of a comercial application located here: Google Navigator I don't think it is alowed here. You can go to this website and download free version which works but has some limitation. If you like it, buy it and remove the limits.
Also, please read this on front page!

I didn't flag the post or was rude, just stated the obvious. This is absolutely a cracked application and there are plenty of places on the net where it is allowed and tolerated; so it shoul be taken there. I recently joined this forum and I like it very much. So just wanted to ask to keep the garbage away.
I didn't realize that it was a crack before I downloaded it, but I have not used the crack. I do intend to purchase if it works well. Its a heck of a lot cheaper than Tomtom.

That is basically what is happening to me. Do you think it is a problem with the 3.27 radio; possibly a memory leak due to an incompatibility? Those of you who are trying it with the official GPS ROM (I will not update until dcd has a release that works with the new radio) are you running out of memory too?
i didn't know it was a crack. like i said in the original post... i downgraded to a stock sprint rom so 3.65 rom update would be faster.
i never tried it. just posted it cause i thought i was a good find.

Hi anyone
I hear very good things about Diamond_Radio_1.00.25.05.zip concerning reception so I'd like to try it on my Raphael.
Now, I hardspled my Raphael, flashing modded roms works and with Custom RUU I have been able to flash the .31 radio rom onto my .19 radio rom device.
When I however try to flash the .05 radio rom, which is a Diamond rom, flashing fails. I assume the radio HW is exactly the same as in the Raphael so what's wrong? Is there a type-code in the rom that prevents a successful flash? How do I get this working?
Patrick
i would like to know how to do it aswell

This has already been discussed. Flashing Diamond radios on the Raphael does not work. See this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410620
Well, obviously it hasn't been discussed adequately yet.
I've been watching that thread and it doesn't really contain an answer as to why it doesn't work and whether there is a possibility to get it working.
That thread also doesn't give a definite answer to the question whether or not the Diamond and Touch Pro use the exact same radio hardware so I think the validity of my questions is fine.

cmonex said:
OK I know now why.
raphael radio won't flash on diamond and diamond radio won't flash on raphael. even if their contents are the same - I have such radios here (this proves they are compatible). there is a reason for this (yes, HTC, again artificial limitation!!!)
there is one way around this - if you are security unlocked in radio it will flash no problem.

heh, has no one read my #28 post?
again, diamond radio will not flash but not due to incompatibility. it is artificial limitation which can be removed with security unlocker
however there will be some people here who'll say yes the radio flashed - that is because they ran the diamond sec unlocker.

cmonex and OliPro (OliNex) are still working on a Raph Security Unlocker. Saying their work in inadequate is bordering on offensive, given how much they provided this comunity with.

My my, so stating that something has not been discussed enough means that someone’s effort is inadequate? I think your somewhat hostile reaction to my post is out of line. I didn't say anyone’s work is inadequate! Read again!
As you can read, cmonex states he knows they are compatible, he doesn't say whether or not they are the same! There is a difference you know?
And as to what the incompatibility is, there is no answer for that yet. At least, not in that thread so I posted my message with the combination of questions I have to find out if anyone else knows more.
I don’t find your reaction bordering on offensive, I find it offensive. You seem to think you can dictate what I'm allowed to ask and what opinion I'm allowed to have.

The discussion was complete, a security unlocker is required to get a Diamond ROM to work on a Raph. cmonex and OliPro (as well as Jockyw2001) have provided these in the past and more than likley will again.

I never intended to be rude, for that I am sorry. I just type and asume the same tone in my head goes down on paper, which is this case it didn't.
To discuss this further, cmonex has identified that the two radios are compatable, but a security unlocker is required for the raph in order for to allow a radio from a diamond to be flashed on to it. This is what you raph users will be patiently waiting for.
Hopefully this clarifies things.
Thanks
Dave
It's all right dude, I can certainly understand your passion
I'm with you so far and I was hoping there are more people seeking answers out there. Hence the question. Anyway, we'd better use our efforts to get more out of our Raphaels then bug each into blind rages
Anyway, I appreciate your apologies and they're not necessary as I myself tend to like it a bit too much to play someone when someone gets passionate like you did. Sorry for that

Seriously, this was all concluded in the other thread.
cmonex very clearly stated in that thread that the reason Diamond radios don't work at the moment is because of an extra limitation that HTC has added to the Raphael - That will be a non-issue once the security unlocker is released.
Which other answers are you still seeking, bozotheclown - as far as I can see the only question you asked has very clearly been shown to you by apd and DaveShaw?
My questions are serious and I'm looking for what ther exacte compatibility issue is so I can try to help out.
And if that's what you see you missed it.
BTW. I don't see what questioning ones questions does for finding answers.

Glad its all sorted and no hard feelings. I get stressed when "I think" I'm been bated, there's a little cocky kid on a wiki I'm gonna get one day... Im just biding my time.
There are Security unlock apps out there, Jockyw2001 wrote the one for the kaiser, that sets a flag in the low level storage area of the phone (the nand i think) that allows you greater access to the deice that normal.
i.e. You can format the SPL when sec unlocked. (Though I wouldn't advise it)
Anyway...
If you want to help out, and have some knowledge of assembly language pm olinex and ask if you can help out.

yes. different RSA key is used to sign the radio.NB for raphael. the radio bootloader is the same for both, so it must dynamically select the correct public key for the device it is running on - which is possible by querying the PID (sort of a device model id), stored in regioninfo in nand.
security unlock gets around this by not checking the RSA at all when flashing.
hopefully that is detailed enough

just some comments
1. yea, both jocky and olinex implemented a method, they use different ways to get the same result.
the flag is in memory, then written back to nand in jocky's solution. olinex solution uses the AMSS to set it in the more "official" way.
2. you can but on diamond or raphael you will not currently have a way to get out of that. for some reason, you cannot see the USB when in dload or oemsbl command line. (note, even without being unlocked, you could do the SPL erase and restore just fine using frankenkaiser on the kaiser generation, kaiser, polaris, niki, sedna etc...)

Actually it more belongs in the Thunderbolt General forum, but that is neither here nor there.
The main issue is that all you state is that "I used to get 20 Mbps now its down to 1 Mbps"...There are several items you should be addressing here such as 1. What speed you're actually referring to and where you were getting it. 2. When did your speeds drops. 3. Did you change anything prior to your speeds dropping.
VZW telling you that your speeds suddenly dropping means you need to update doesn't help at all because im sure the VZW rep you spoke to wasn't aware you are running custom unsupported software and possibly a unsupported radio to begin with.

You read all the disclaimers to rooting, your warranty and support from VZW is null and void, and if you walk in and show them a rooted phone and ask why it's broken I hope they take it to the side of your head! Really though, there are a hundred variables once your rooted and you've explained nothing. What radio, ROM, kernel, you using, what was the last thing you changed, have you tried reverting to how it was before you noticed the change? Have you wiped and went back to stock to see if it's a network problem? Is the problem consistent for a few days to rule out any problems with VZW in your area?
Much more than it used to work, I hacked it, now it's brokeded....

Verizon throttles but 10 gigs isn't presidents to throttle they go after people using 50+gigs for most part you really have to be eating up some bandwidth for them to throttle
