I have been gone for awhile. I just got a new 8525 and I have a question. I did look and google but I just can't think of the name of this program. I am looking for the small program that puts the red dot on the close button and fully closes the program when you press it. I lost it over the past few months and cannot remember what it was called. I would be grateful for any help you can give me......I think it's something like "x-close" but can't find that si it's probably not right.
Thanks
I found the HTC x-button but that isn't it. This just left a red dot on the x button...
Found it. wclose... I was looking for the wrong thing. Thanks

On the Hero I feel that the volume control buttons on the left hand side of the unit are wasted. I would much rather turn them into scroll up/down buttons to give me an experience similar to the scroll wheel on my HTC TyTN 2 (Oh how I miss that scroll-wheel) - does anyone know how to do this?
Cheers,
Mike
I had a similar question about this. I have held the hero and played with it before. impatiently awaiting mine to get here on Thursday. from my short run from it, the back button annoyed the hell out of me, i think it should have swapped placed with the search key.
For those of you who have the hero, is this an annoyance to you? do you still wish it would have been closer to the trackball? or did you get used to it?
if your answers are : yes, yes, and no, anyone know how to go about getting the ball rolling on remapping these buttons? thanks alot.
You have to edit the files in /system/usr/keylayout with an Editor like Notepad++ or Textpad.
I was also interested in remapping the back key so thanks for providing an answer the the query.
I have tried to find some application to edit the files you pointed at, unfortunately, none of the notepads I tried seem to be able to open the files. Have I missed anything (apologies if I am asking a somewhat obvious question...)
Thanks for enlightening me
There should be some kind of way to access thoses files from the handset, but I guess it could be easier and more pratical to access them from your computer, by mouting /system through adb.
I have had the hero for about 3 weeks and unfortunately I find the back button still difficult to press when holding in one hand. I bet left handets have no probs tho.
Hi, I think there is probably a post here somewhere but it eludes me... On my Orbit 2 I installed a program to give a "new" (sms, mail appointment etc). Is there such a thing for HD2 that could be put on a quick link?

You can either use the method samsamuel linked you to or you could set up an "action screen" on your left softkey and get access to various shortcuts like new sms/mms/email all from one screen...
Check this thread.....
Hope that helps.....
ooo thats nice, hadn't seen that before.
EDIT - oh wait,. i already have it cooked in, but bound to teh long press end key, d'oh, hehe
Thanks for the replies Guys. I think I'll have a crack at the action screen. Should be interesting for a Noob like me..........
Does anyone remember the old g1 or the first mt3g phones how they had that lock screen it was a square and you had to press menu to unlock it? You know old school androids. Well I'm looking for one to put on here on my mt4g but I cant locate one. Is there even a mod developed for that to be possible?
Thanks in advanced!
..... Mr. Hammy ......
you aren't going to find anything like that style unless you use minimalistic text on widget locker to give something of that look and turn on menu unlock so menu will unlock the phone. but there is a reason why they changed to a real lock screen, the android 1.5 lock screen was bad. just being able to press menu caused alot of accidental unlocks and pocket dials.
Hmm I see well that's quite disappointing. I like the look of that. Reminds me of the old days when it only took 3 swipes to reach the end of the entire app library lol.
Well if anyone sees anything like that or makes one please send that my way?!
Thanks for your responce btw.
.... Mr. Hammy ....
LOVE my new EVO LTE (hardware) -- waiting on a couple software fixes for a few things.
i remember reading a thread where you could map an ICS android's dedicated camera button to voice search on soft-press. You know, the one-push of the button, instead of the holding-it-down which brings up the camera.
I love ICS but i HATE that google removed the dedicated search button!! I used that all the time. For everything...
anyway, i used the search and i simply can not locate that thread anywhere. Any help is appreciated.

Its under Development. Hope this helps.
I agree with the search button comment... I just ended up adding a google search bar to the top of every panel like on the Nexus. I am starting to get used to tapping on it. But in apps, it does get occasionally frustrating-- though my love for the phone outweighs it dramatically
i agree, the phone itself is too awesome to get worked up over the search thing, but still... i miss it bordering on need it.
I'm glad to see someone is working on this, that is awesome, but that wasn't what i was looking for. it was in another phone's boards, it was done, and if i remember correctly, it only worked on ICS that had a dedicated hardware camera button. it wasn't a "remap any button you like hard or soft" thing...
i found this, which helps (and i did the same thing, put one on each homescreen ) voice-search button

still, it would be nice to have that button lower-right-side bring up the voice prompt! i had just gotten used to using voice-commands for everything only to have them take that away!
Dang, sorry that wasn't it.
I'm on exactly the same page. I was really enjoying using voice commands with ICS on my 3D with just a tap on the bottom, but now I just have to stretch my hand a tiny bit farther to get to that search bar [totally just realized a little while ago theres a mic on the bar for voice search too ].
But yes, here's to hoping someone cooks something up!
for remapping the list to menu, it's this thread here

Hi all,
I have an issue with the "right click" on the halo keyboard. Before I have chatted with fb support from Lenovo.
Their solutions were: 1) try with the rectangles on the side from the touch pad on halo keyboard (picture). My answer: I don't have rectangles, just 5 dots (picture)
2) You see the five dots below the space bar? the dots in the middle is for you to scroll up and down, left and right. You will start movie from the middle then move towards where you want to scroll. The two dots on the left and right are for the click. Try it. My answer: I'am trying to correct a word wich was misspelled using the option "right click" on it. But following these steps, seems like doesn't work
Now you know what I have tried. Is there an option a I didn't see or try it before? any hotkey? or crtl+? lol
Thank you!
Last update from Lenovo:
Sorry about that. Windows does have the left and the right click, however the android version does have the scroll only. You could try holding the option from the screen then see if you will get options popped up.
My answer: **** I would like to ask to someone from the IT (I don't know if this is the way to do it).
It is very important when you write or efit not to switch from one to another.
Is like having a mouse and the touch pad, to do certains things you have to switch from one to another.
It is ok, there is solution for the issue. But it is not correct, there is a correct way on windows, but need to be also on this kind of device too.
Please if its not here to elevate this complaint/ask, tell me where to.
Thank you
Sorry for your lost time reading this, but might help someone else with this issue
